I have been a fan of this movie since it came out. It's just been in the last couple of years (since I discovered reaction videos) that I realized he opened it to Exodus! This movie is full of easter eggs!!
I never noticed that, and I have lost count of many times I’ve watched this! It’s one of my all-time favorite movies. The fact that it was Exodus is such a little gem of trivia!!!
My favorite moment of the movie is when Red finds the money Andy left him under the rock, and then frantically checks around him for anyone who might have seen. The man is sitting in the middle of an empty field with only the sounds of birds and bugs, but prison will shape a man.
This was a two or 300 page short story and almost nothing was cut for the film, it just shows you how much screen time is needed to fully adapt a book to the screen. The most major change from the book was there was many wardens over the course of Andy's incarceration, not just one. For the movie it makes sense to have one since that allows you to have a common antagonist for the entire story.
@@SuperSayinSolidSnek Also Red was a white guy. I read the book, but it's been awhile. The Green Mile, The Shinning, Christine, Carrie. Some of his books have made very good movies. some not. I know I left some movies out, but these are the ones who come to mind.
I've watched this movie so many times, but your reaction made me see it with new eyes. I love your laid-back but insightful reactions. So many RUclips reactors think they need to be loud and make jokes all the time while watching. I prefer videos like yours when you only talk when you have something worth saying. Thank you.
Great reaction guys. One of my favourite movies. I loved how you picked up on all the little subtleties. Another interesting detail is when Brooks was getting out, the camera focuses on the prison behind him, but when Red was released, the camera shows the outside world in front of him. I think it implies that Brooks belonged inside and Red was destined for freedom.
Frank Darabont gotta be one of the greatest directors in cinema who's still kinda underated. Between Shawshank, Green Mile, and The Walking Dead thats a goat resume.
Honestly guys the hype around this film is real. The most amazing thing about this film is it wasn't really a box office success, but when it went to VHS Video rental the word got around and it became an utter cult classic watched by millions, it is one of the the greatest films of all time. Great reaction guys we could see you were genuinely moved by it. Incredible to think also that it was only a Steven King short story called Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption and became this epic film. A film of true hope conquers all, a beautiful ending on the beach after all they had been through with a glorious panoramic shot from above. As you love Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul knew you would love this one.
The 2002 version with Jim Caviezel and Henry Cavill is my favorite version; the 1998 Gerard Depardieu version is more accurate, and well-made, but is in French and requires subtitles.
I watch this movie everytime i come across it on TV. Classic Steven King, so many twists and turns keep you locked in. Right up there with Green Mile. Glad you enjoyed it. Keep up the great work ‼️ ☮️ 💜
Red and Andy, two men who would never have met in life outside of prison. Different skin color, different education, place of residence and "class" in the sense of above and below". All that is so infinitely "important" to us humans. They meet each other and quickly become friends, as they recognize each other's true worth. By breaking out, Andy can create a safety net for Red. The new home is also there. As such, Brooks had no network, no friends outside of prison, simply no one and himself a nobody. As if made for relapse or suicide. Is that the point of being released from prison? An outstanding film with outstanding actors.
I get the sentiment and generalization, but I will nitpick as to Red and Andy "never" meeting in life and possibly forging any connection, any friendship. As much as there is no denying divisions of the past ( based on innumerable factors ), the same divisions exist today, yet who knows how many bonds and relationships were real and authentic and tight then, and now. Across class, education, skin tone. If the implication is that there was such tribalism then, it still is a thing today, and I'm not necessarily saying it's all a bad thing, either. ( Perhaps you aren't as well. My gut reaction was that you were over-simplifying and assuming the worst of society when in fact the "good news" and examples of America aren't publicized nor celebrated as much as the bad stuff. Pity. I say we don't bow to the worst of all generalizations and assumptions. The truth, then and now, is more nuanced than that. )
That's one of the things that was magical about the 1980s... I was a construction worker standing in line at 7/11. Ahead of me was a banker in a 3 piece suit, having a conversation with the man in front of him, wearing worn, oil-stained clothes. When the first man reached the cashier, he pulled out a horse-choking wad of cash; he was an oil field worker who'd just gotten paid. But he and the banker talked as social equals. It was beautiful to see.
@@mena94x3Weren't Irish people discriminated against in the US too? Not from there, but I'm pretty sure I've seen "no Irish allowed" black and white photos, just like the ones from the Jim Crow era.
Another little detail is Andy mentions "Harvey the Rabbit" (a 6 foot invisible rabbit from a movie) as being as real as his fake identity, and Red gets an unsigned postcard with a giant rabbit on it. :)
In the movie The Voice said that Geology is the study of time and pressure. That building (prison) was old and apparently the walls became brittle. It takes 600 years when the building is new. 19 years when the building is old. Andy knew about geology.
I've watched this movie multiple times, and watched a lot of reactions to it. I've never picked up on the harmonica playing when Red is in the field. Awesome catch!

This means a lot to us, much love💙
You guys are great.
We appreciate you💙
I was just searching to see if you had reacted to this. so glad you finally did! One of my all time favorite!
So glad y'all enjoyed Shawshank! One of my all time favs for sure. It's one of the few quality films made from a Stephen King story :D Perfectly casted, top notch acting, writing and directing.
Carrie, Stand By Me thats it?
@@indianikit741 Ya, few and far between, hah. There are a number of "decent" films from his books (Running Man, It, Maximum Overdrive, Misery, etc), but the majority are pretty bad (Langoliers, Thinner, The Stand, The Mangler and so on)
Ugh, I hate that I miss the premiers from the start. I'll have to come back when it's done and watch. Brooks makes me cry every.single.time. I ❤ that you two are watching this. One of my favorites.
You know you can just start a premier at the beginning and close the live chat. Basically the same thing as watching the final video :P Maybe mobile version makes it harder or something I dunno.
this reaction was so calming, man yall caught on some real points
We are happy you enjoyed the reaction & much love💙
Great reaction choice boys! Almost at that 20k!🎉
Appreciate the love!! and we are so closeee!
This is a fantastic movie, I have seen it many times, and never get bored of seeing it, it's the best movie NEVER to win an Oscar.
@@wolfie35p amazing movie from start to finish!
10/10 was on point! Definitely one of the best movies ever made!
Andy and Red are my favorite besties of all time
You probably didn't realize when you started watching Shawshank, this is one of the greatest movies ever put to film.
It was filmed in an old maximum security prison in Mansfield ,OH! My wife and I go to a rock and tattoo festival called Inkcarceration that is held not only on the same grounds, but right next to the prison! Tattoo festival is inside, you can tour the prison, and there are 3 stages of live bands playing just outside for 3 days!
That’s gotta be an amazing thing to experience, both the festival & Shawshank prison!
Best reactors I've seen so far. Listening to every detail instead of talking over the movie. Well done! The both of you are te ONLY ones so far to catch the shitty pipe dreams reference. Definitely subbed for more.
Mann dude, y'all are super perceptive. Never noticed the "shitty pipe dream" foreshadowing, or the harmonica note at the big tree that I guess symbolizes Red rediscovering his outside-the-prison identity. Great reaction, good work.
Dear Warden salva salva salva lmfao 😂😂😂😂 too funny lol great reaction guys I'm subscribing now lol
Great reaction as always, lads.
Much love to you💙
Great reaction! Loved the first library scene with the grown up crow Jake!
We appreciate you & it surprised us but put into perspective how long Andy was already there
