Thank you so much for posting these fantastic videos. I have a multinodular goiter which I've had for many years. Everything was ticking away ok without treatment but I recently have been diagnosed with mild hyperthyroidism. I am very worried about the possibility that I will have to have my thyroid surgically removed. This is partly because there are so many negative stories out there concerning the problems associated with thyroid removal. Your videos have been so helpful because you have provided a positive view, which is very rare. Maybe people who don't have problems after surgery are happy and just don't feel a need to post videos about their positive experience, but it might also mean that having surgery leaves people with more problems. I'm trying to do as much research into thyroid removal as possible so that I can make an informed decision. Because your insight is so valuable I wonder could you do a follow up video on how you are doing now please? Sorry to ask you to do this but I've noticed that people sometimes say that problems from thyroid surgery do not show up until months afterwards. I really hope that this is not the case for you but it would help a lot of people, including me if you could find the time to do a quick update. Many thanks.

@@thehappyartichoke3012 Hello. Thank you so much for replying. To be honest any information that you could give about what it has been like to live without your thyroid would be of so much help. In particular though, I'd like to hear about how you feel now as opposed to how you felt not long after your surgery? This is really important because some people who have seen some of the more positive videos where people have recently had their surgery and report feeling fine, comment that that's just because they've still got some residual thyroid hormones in their system, but that after 3 months or so they will begin the inevitable slide into hypothyroidism and feeling unwell. There are videos on YT which show people saying that their life is over since surgery, that they have no energy etc. I wonder if you are still feeling well? I really hope so. Also if you had to make the decision to have surgery, would you still do it? Did you know much about what your life would be like without a thyroid before you said yes to surgery? Do you have to have your medication tweaked regularly? Do you have any issues with energy levels, weight gain? Have you ever missed taking your medication for a day and if so what happened? Do you eat different things now? Can you almost forget that you ever had an issue with your thyroid and just immerse yourself into daily life? I would love to hear how you feel about things now. @@peterbennett1499 Also, I want to answer some of your other questions. If I had to make the decision all over again to have surgery, I 100% would. It has allowed me to go back to the active and healthy lifestyle I had prior to developing thyroid problems. I am still feeling well. Luckily, I have not missed a day of thyroid medicine. I can absolutely live a normal life where I don't think about my thyroid. My decision to remove my thyroid was an easy one especially due to the goiter I had developed - but especially because I wanted to have children, and my thyroid levels were affecting my ability to ovulate. Thankfully, this has resolved (as I'm now pregnant). I am very, very happy with my decision to get my thyroid removed! I hope this helps.

Besides taking synthyroid are you taking any additional supplements? I have surgery coming up Dec 1st. I'm actually looking forward to moving on after dealing with the ocassional choking (nodules pressing on esaphogus) when eatting or drinking. I'm dealing with hyperthyroidism, and the symptoms. I've had several biopsies on the none hot nodules(none hyper nodules) because they were rated high for possible cancer. The results came back negative. Truthfully, once the thyroid is removed, and checked by the lab, I will then be more at ease about whether I have cancer or not.
Oh gosh, best of luck to you! No, I am not taking any other supplements for my thyroid besides Synthroid. :)

Hi ,I just went through thyroid surgery it all removal..I am just kind of scared of what to eat and what not to eat. My appt with the doctor is in two days..so any advice would be great..thank you for your vlog..my ne is Carol
How long did it end up taking for your steri strips to come off as I have the same ones and I've seen very few people with these ones and noone says how long it actually took for them to come off? And also how did it look when they first came off if you have any images I'd love to see so I can compare and know if everything is healing well because I don't yet know if I get a post op when my first set of bloods are done or just a call as they're checking my thyroid levels where I only had half removed😊 would be so helpful to know anything you can tell me at all about how healing went with these strips
Shantheresa, I'm so sorry I didn't see your comment until now! If you check out some of my other videos I have a visual of what the scar looks like after awhile. I was told I could take the steristrips off after a few days, but I waited over a week and then slowly peeled them off as they started falling off. I'm sorry I don't have a better image for you! The scar looked pretty clean when I took the bandage off. You might notice a little pink color and a little bit of swelling right after surgery, but if you notice redness, get a fever, or have the shakes, those are signs of infection and you should call your doctor.
What about your voice after surgery, how long until it was fully recovered
If I remember correctly it took about 10 days to feel fully confident in my voice again, but the first few days were certainly the worst
Do u have libido after surgery?
After removal of ur thyroid have u had weight gain issues/ slow metabolism and Memory issues. Being a student I’m worried about getting the surgery done as iv heard that it can result in memory issues and brain fog. Il be reallly glad if u discuss that a little.
Honestly I feel better mentally after having my thyroid out - however, I did feel like the anesthesia stuck with me for a few weeks and caused some brain fog, which is maybe what you've heard of. Technically, I did have a little weight gain, but I actually think this was my body regulating back to it's "normal" size it was before my thyroid issues. Most of the weight gain in muscle, and my body is much more capable of doing wonderful things (like being strong, having endurance, and getting pregnant).

Yes, I used a generic vitamin E oil bought from a drugstore (CVS). The most important thing is to wear sunscreen!
