    In the mid 70's to early 80's I spent a lot time at my great grandmother's house on Minter Ave right next door to Brown YMCA what we called it the black YMCA cause there were 2 one for white folks located on Main Street and one for black folks located on Minter Ave. In the late 70's my mother was the editor of the Black Belt Journal.

    This interview was full of energy and inspiring. She has the secret sauce. You can’t lead the ppl if you don’t love the ppl...that’s a whole sermon!!! This is why the Dem party needs an overhaul. Organizations like BVM don’t get the big contracts during campaign season....they get the crumbs filtered down from yt organizations who continue to fail. That needs to change. Dem party spent millions of $ on tv ads & mailers....in 2020 while these ladies were doing the hard work in GA. We don’t need change...we need revolution!!!

    I have a special place in my heart for organizers like Ms. LaTosha Brown. Remind me of the Great Bob Moses, in his book Radical Equations he takes us into the heart of the Mississippi organizing efforts in the 60s and the 30 people that started during the summer of '64. These are unsung heroes. I am curious to know who was her mentor. Bob Moses talked about listening, let the people tell us what they need, being a part of their lives.

    I had to stop advocating because this era of toxic optimism is sickening. I've found folks that are in leadership now often suffer from narcissistic tendencies and just tell the folks what they want to hear to continue to get the adoration they desire. Glad you can keep going! I will continue to support those that I can.

    This was a great segment Dr. Karen. Here is the condition I never understood in the Black Community, the bible and religion has been used to oppress the Black community forever, we heard this Ms. Brown say she was not allowed to speak in the pulpit in the Black Church, oppression is very addictive, and maybe I am answering my own question just like power is an addiction so the two go hand in hand power is the husband and oppression is the wife.

    • @micheleholley1070
      @micheleholley1070 3 года назад

      @A Z Thank you for your comment, I said in my first comment the Bible was used to oppress Black People and it was used to justify White Superiority, it has been used very much in the Western world as such. When Black Slaves were bought to this so called "New World" it was taught we were less than human and the only way to give us some sort of humanity was through Christianity, we were taught to obey our White Slave owners and that obedience would earn us a place in Heaven. The notion of the White Savior further solidified these believes. Please read very carefully my first comment before reacting with condemnation. Thank you.
