Prof. Carr's excitement when he talks is so engaging and exhilarating that it pulls you in and it makes you want to learn more! I can't get enough of the two of you. There is so much to learn here.
He is the quintessential educated Black man. We can always depend on Dr. Carr to walk us through history and he's so animated which makes his storytelling so fun.

Karen I love, love what you are doing. I'm in class with you and Dr. Carr every week. I love to read but I'm so jealous of Dr. Carr's library. Now at age 70 I will never reach the number of books so I appreciate to be able to listen in and the emmence knowledge I'm gaining. I believe you are never too old to learn....I just have to write everything down now.🤣
His library is impressive (as is his mind). And this isn't even a tenth of the books he has. And you're so right about learning.
I just saw the re-imagining a Fahrenheit 451 last night with Michael B Jordan. The underground rebels in that version memorized whole novels and literary works. It just reminded me of another session with Dr. Carr where he discussed the African history and knowledge keepers who felt that writing history down diminished the mind's capacity and the people's capacity for remembrance and understanding. Doctor Carr himself is a testament to the benefit and capacity of both recording knowledge and carrying it within. And Ms. Hunter, your mind is not too shabby either!

@@givenscommunications6307 The History channel does not consider this to be important history, or appealing history. The kind that they think there audiences want to see. If they believed it would draw large numbers of viewers they would do the story.
My Saturdays just don't start until I get a history lesson from Dr. Carr.

The burial piece in this segment is so real and very interesting. "The forgotten girl" is a fiction story that touches on the historical facts of how African American graves weren't marked and forgotten. I once again enjoyed this class.

Dr. Carr reminds me of the late Mr. Abdullah, a high school history teacher I had; teaching our history in plain English and with context to other world events happening at the same time. I could listen for hours!

Yup! There are no laws on the books protecting black or slave burial ground.
Oh they touched plenty of sacred grounds of Native Americans. What is the history of Mount Rushmore? What was blown up to erect that monument?
@@toddmaek5436 you are saying things I have no comprehension, but what you say inspires me to figure out a way to bring people more non white people together to give them what they fear most. So many people are suffering from countless decades of white men ruling. If we must be ruled then the farce must be unveiled. Otherwise we are supplicant to the mistreatment.
That’s because they know their heritage and they took all knowledge of ours. You have more black Americans scared of graves than knowledgeable of the power of honoring and remembering our ancestors. Everything that’s beautiful about our spirituality has been made “blasphemy” by misinterpretation of the Christianity and biblical texts.

This is the real history our children and some adults of coloured needs to learn! Teach Dr.
The Aunt Jemima family had a lawsuit with the company they were never compensated.
Now that the trademark is being taken down the family will not be compensated indefinitely.
I believe the company used the out lash from the community to get out of this lawsuit with the family.

This is so deep and I'm referring to the way history is hidden and rewritten and hidden again. Also, the way the lies of history are woven into the education system. The whole thing, it a masterpiece of deceit. It's also exhausting, how can you keep lying and hiding history. Aren't they exhausted lol? On a lighter note, there's so much to learn. Ok, rant over. Thanks for sharing this interview.

Dr. Carr's comment about "washing" graves. I didn't know this, and the idea of "tending to the people who tended to you" is appealing to me. I think of my grandparents and their influence on my
growth and development. Next time I visit my mom I will be taking the time to do this with grandparents' headstones. Thank you, Dr. Carr.

I’m a proud graduate of Clark Atlanta University, but am now hoping my children go to Howard when it’s time just to have you as a professor. I also loved the video where you discussed Jamil Al-Amin. I remember being a law student at Georgia State University and having one of the prosecutors coming to speak to our class. My friend reminded me that I pressed about being a black woman prosecuting a political prisoner. Ultimately, I just want to say THANK YOU!!! I have ancestral roots to Madagascar, they do rituals to the dead. I remember my grandmother going as I said before, Decoration day (Memorial Day) was our ritual to clean the graves of those who preceded us. I am like Karen, I do not believe they are there, but their spirit is always with us (even alive in the DNA) but it is like doing libations to honor the ancestors. Some people have alters for ancestors. I think it is good to remember what and where you came from. More books thanks.

I had vivid dreams of my long gone grandmother, whom I was very close to,
decades after she passed (when I was a pre teen).
She appeared, still giving me knowledge...
In fact... in one of the last clear dreams, she actually aged in the dream
..and I was taller than her - unlike our respective heights when she died.
I don't hear her voice anymore, but my life became a living testament to her life
Thank you both for educating us. I love this show. I'm in California and I tune in because I learn something new each time I'm able to listen.
