Tyne Daly even though she won a Tony was somewhat disappointing for me it was something about her performance that said I'M NOT REALLY LIKE THAT she's a great actress but she's not good at playing strong women and her singing was just okay my favorite Angela Lansbury Merman is a better singer but Lansbury is a better actress

@Kimberly Fleming Because Madonna was a huge pop music star who sold out concert stadiums. This being a musical, they wanted someone from the pop music world. Movies are very different than live musical theater, and studios need stars to sell tickets. Actually Broadway has become, for better or worse, more and more like that.
Out of her own mouth....Ms. LuPone said she was fired from Sunset Boulevard....now how many people owe me an apology? They don't audition another actress, one who is more expensive and probably can't stay with the show until it recoups it's investment unless the person fired stinks. Ms. LuPone's reviews from American critics were horrid for Sunset Boulevard but her Mama Rose......sensational would be an understatement.
I’m surprised she was never fired from Evita. Her diction was always appalling and never improved with sunset boulevard. And then Whooping being rude about Lloyd Webber to keep the diva under control
Your standards may be too low. Most people find ignorance and jealousy to be very unattractive. If you like that kind of thing I can understand why you would love her.
There is no disputing that LuPone has talent; however, a subtle performer she is not. Her voice, to my ears, sounds much like a malfunctioning industrial dishwasher. She was simply not up to standard in Sunset Boulevard. LuPone plays LuPone, whatever she does. La Close remains the definitive Miss Desmond - one of the greatest stage performances of all time. Viva La Close! x
