One night, during Patti LuPone's run playing Mama Rose in Gypsy, a light bulb exploded during a scene set on a stage. While thankfully no one was injured, there were shards of glass scattered on the stage. Without missing a beat, she goes backstage, comes back with a push broom, and commences to clean up the shards while muttering about having to do everything herself around there! It was hilarious! 😂
During college, back in the late '70s, had a friend who wrote a very nice letter to Patti while she was in Evita on Broadway. He and a friend were coming to see the show, he was interested in musical theater, etc. She wrote back and invited them to come backstage to see her after the show!
