When Patti Lupone says you’re not a terrible actor, that feels bizarrely like a compliment because if Patti genuinely thought you were terrible, she would tell you. Lol
She is talented but probably catty at times; just ask Rosie O'Donnell and Madonna
The fact that she mentioned two Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musicals
Haha! Get It because of “Sunset Boulevard”
Well Cats is overrated. It’s not a great show. And frankly I think ALW is slightly overrated. He rights four or five new songs and thinks that means he has a new musical.
I have also watched that performance of "Ladies Who Lunch" more times than I can count and yes such a great moment with Elaine! So happy to know it was truly a surprise! 😍
That engagement was so weird. Bad audio, so monotone... really weird. congrats tho!
The opportunity to throw shade at ALW came and she took it
Exactly what I was thinking! Do they have bad blood? Didn’t he make her a star with Evita?!
Rightly so!! The way he treats people is just disgusting!
@@DarkSky99 they have TONS of bad blood. It’s a long story but after she originated the role of Norma Desmond in his musical Sunset Boulevard in London, she was promised in her contract that she would originate it in New York too, but she was fired a month before her run ended. She sued him and got enough money to build a pool in her backyard (she called it the Andrew Lloyd Webber Memorial Pool LMAO) but her replacement, Glenn Close, won the leading actress Tony for playing the role that she was promised! Never worked with Andrew again🫢
@@dirkandiHe has a pattern of very passive-aggressive behavior when dealing with people. He doesn’t confront them directly, but lets them find out that they’re in his bad graces through other means. When he divorced Sarah Brightman, she found out through his publicist. Patti found out she’d been fired from Sunset via gossip columnist Liz Smith. And the entire London cast and crew of his Cinderella show also were notified a couple of years ago that they’d been let go through a notice sent from his vacation home in Spain. I love ALW’s music, but he can be a real creep.
She was right about cats tho lol
That was the strangest engagement Ive ever seen
Lmao I read this comment before seeing it. After watching, yes 😂
Very cringy. Lol 😂
Ooh, without context I thought you were talking about the interview lmao
It felt like someone was holding a gun at them from behind the camera 😩
@@jordandiaz877 you’ve got me cackling 😭😂
I love Patti's expression when she saw the guy proposed aww
That engagement looked like a hostage video…
Omg 😂
It did lol
I'm happy for them but they must know they have bad audio...
Staged!
I personally don’t get it and think it’s cringeworthy and a little narcissistic, but if you’re going to do it at least get a new mic so you don’t sound like Charlie Brown’s teacher. With a straight guy’s proposal I can understand it because it’s generally unfamiliar territory to them. They really need to surrender their cards.
Wow, neither of the two fiancés seemed particularly enthusiastic about that.
Skipping the engagement, tapping the 10 second skip 4 times
Overrated does not equal worst shows. Misleading title.
I have to agree with her on Phantom. I’ve always been a much bigger Les Mis fan. Lol. Not sure I need that time limit though. Let Lion King do its 30 year run. It deserves it. Lol
I agree with Patti Lloyd Webber musicals are terrible and dont deserve to be só much time on stage specially CATS one of the boring musicals I ever seen.
Sorry…My list of overrated musical
Also include Les Mis
"Cats." The worst. By far. I finally saw it for the first time three years ago. No prep other than the popular songs. I'm sorry, but I need a plot, I need a story arc, and on top of everything else, I've always hated cats. (I was 40 years old when I found out I was allergic to them, and my allergist couldn't understand why that news made me smile.) "Phantom," I actually like. "Les Miz", when the director casts a Javert who can actually sing, is my all-time favorite.
I was going to say “Cats” before I heard Patti’s answer. 🐱 🤷♀️😅 Also, Patti for President. 🇺🇸
In the 90's , Emma Thompson appeared on late night TV (Letterman?) wearing a blouse with hideously long and exaggerated flouncy white cuffs. She conducted the whole interview self consciously twirling her hands manically like windmills in a rainstorm.
Glad to see Cynthia Nixon keeping the tradition alive by excessively gesticulating (with both hands no less) rainbow sleeved hands just to show off the details of one's costume.
Oh I thought you were gonna say pattie 😂 she’s dressed like Austin powers
@@Belfastboi "She's dressed like a MAN BABY!!!... Grrrr .."
When I saw Company, Matt Doyle was so fabulous & funny he completely stopped the show!
What do I hope will happen to Miranda next season? That she will completely disappear. Nothing to do with Cynthia Nixon herself. The writers changed Miranda into an absolutely insufferable character with zero redeeming qualities. Every character needs conflict and an arc, but they did her dirty.
Patti...is Honest and Direct Enough to know that she has No successful, charting Solo albums or major star film roles. She's an acquired taste.💯💥
"Cats and Phantom..." is that a little shade I hear? hahaha
Wasn't she in the ALW Australian production of Love Never Dies, tho? Haahahahaha
@@Lunelandshe was?
No shade, both musicals are just horrible.
If there is a second season, let’s hope they get all new writers bc AJLT was the worst
Literally all new writers. It pisses me off that the writers think they’re so great and funny and creative. They should all be fired.
If there is a second season, it would be because it was successful. So no writers would be fired. No one is forced to watch it, if they don’t enjoy the storylines.
AJLT?
In Defense... The music of Phantom is quite Stellar!
Wow. Would love to get audience tickets to this show.
Cynthia’s hairstyle looks amazing.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the guy who proposed to his bf during their call in!!! And of course, LOVE PATTI & CYNTHIA!!!
i was so borde watching cats that i didnt realize the only good song was halfway through.
And just like that.... he was definitely surprised. Umm... lol
great idea patti and cynthia...let's close shows that are hits...where people (actors, technicians, etc.) have steady jobs and are earning a living. not everyone gets to collect residuals checks from TV shows...and not everyone gets a percentage of the gross when they are on broadway.
Patti Lapone and Cynthia Nixon are wonderful actresses 😄😄👍 ... funny 🤣
Go Patti!
Yessss Patti!! I've never understood the fuzz around Phantom and Cats.
Go cry to Ellen Nancy
Not surprised in the least that she chose to Andrew Lloyd Weber musicals given their rocky history. 😂
It's so weird to just have Matt Doyle standing there. I mean I get that Patti and Cynthia were the stars that day, but still kinda odd. Also that engagement.. lol.
Omg patti is such an ICON!!!
I want to hear why Patty thinks Phantom and Cats are overrated. Follow up questions, Andy !
I adore Patti LuPone.
I wonder what’s Patty’s thoughts on the Life Goes On reboot…
Lmao,....do you have to guess.....??
@@tysonb3568, the series is on order from NBC, and Lupone has said she would make a guest appearance. .
She’s thinking “Oh fun! Another chance to make everyone miserable on set with my shitty diva attitude!”
Cynthia looks younger there then the show
Can we please stop OBSESSING over pressuring women to NEVER be allowed to age forever.....DAMN.
Im a gay man, and as much as some women think we criticize them I spend more time defending women against being judged on their looks than anything.
LOL... I got a little worried when I read the headline. But I totally AGREED with her (sorry, not sorry)!!!!
Patti is such a bitter shrew
First again?!!! Hey Patti!!!
CYNTHIA AND HBO MAX PLEASEEEEE!!!!!! MORE SEASONS!!!
Congrats guys on the engagement!
I was here
@@rodgerkehl8399 just meant the first comment.
😂😂😂
I will never get sick of Phantom of the opera bring it back 🥴
Patti is speaking the truth
She is not wrong
Well I find it interesting that when they ask her which Broadway actor she preferred Patti always said she went traditional which even though I loved her in Company according to her Elaine Stritch is the definitive Joanne. Also Patti said that Carol Channing should've starred in the movie version of Hello, Dolly! Oh Miss LuPone you must be losing it. Look at some footage of Carol Channing on film. That Broadway diva does not belong in the movies.
Have you ever seen the movie of Thoroughly Modern Millie?
@@jenniferd37 Yes! Carol showed why her talents were better suited for the stage and not the screen.
Second season
1:58 her facial expression
Pattie ditch those glasses! Actually the whole outfit.
Phantom of the Opera is by far the worst entertainment I’ve ever experienced, and I watched every episode of Mary Hartman Mary Hartman. It was excruciating.
So sweet to see Golem from lord of the rings finally get a ring of his own🥰
Yeah, that's hilarious. Your parents must be so proud of you. 🙄
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Of course she picked two Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals! LMAO, of course she did! Love that woman forever
Fake azz proposal 🤣
I think Patti Lupone is one of those people that we love or hate. In my case, hate because she always seems to be so mean. Something I can’t put my finger on it.
I ❤ Patti LuPone!!!
First cats will always be overrated to me but
not because it’s been years on broadway if anything broadway should have more shows that last longer and second there literally new shows every year they don’t need to get rid of old shows to make room for them
Cynthia has two worrying lumps on her neck next to her collar on her left side. I hope someone can tell her, just in case.
I think it's her veins/arteries ebbing and flowing with blood. She's so thin you can see them rising and falling over her shoulder bones. It's definitely freaky looking though.
She looks at herself every day. You think you're seeing something she has not?
@@JloveLamar Yes, it has happened before and as I said 'just in case'.
Vampire bite.
I think it’s just the vein and as she’s had Botox on her face it’s made the vein more prominent cos everything else is smoother. Why do they do all that work and never touch the teeth?! Yak
If bitterness was a person:
Patti Lepew
If she only had a better voice she could have placed Grisabella. Since the beginning!
Bitter Patti. Just don’t get her appeal. She would rather see empty theaters and unemployed actors I guess.
Patti says here she wants "term limits for senators"...but when Donald Trump tried to do that...she called him an a$$hole⁉️😅
Patti LuPone can direct me in my closet any day! What a treat! It's not even that she COULD, it is that I am begging her to, and I'm not even sure what that means!
Cynthia’s neck.
So she picked two ALW shows to get her own back !!!
Les Mis forever though
Fakest engagement ever.
MORE Patti!!! SHE'S FABULOUS!!!
I hate cats 🐈
Pattiy LuPone won't be working for Lord Andy anytime soon.
I suspect she chose two ALW shows because she already knew he wasn't going to be calling her for anything... No chance she'd poison an opportunity that way.
Andy, directed, in the closet? Reeeeally? Hard to imagine he'd take direction....I swan.
Matt Doyle TONY WINNER!
Phantom is so overrated and I’m sorry it’s boring and I’m a HUGE theater nerd but it needs to go 🤷🏽♀️😂
Omg cringe engagement of the decade
Betty Buckley won Best Featured Actress in a Musical at the Tony Awards for her Grizabella in the original Broadway Cats. Didn’t Betty also replace Patti in Sunset Boulevard in London when Patti was infamously fired and denied the Broadway transfer over Glenn Close? If I recall, Patti’s reviews as Norma Desmond were mixed, but when the reworked London production re-opened, the show and Betty Buckley got very good reviews. With Patti Lupone being the bitter and immature person she is, holding a seemingly never-ending grudge over the experience decades later, I wouldn’t put it past her to be factoring in Betty’s (and the show’s) London success when she goes after Cats. Whether Cats is “overrated” or is judged harshly because of its long run (and the allegedly horrible movie which I haven’t seen) is a matter of opinion. I just think Patti is CATTY and awful. (and personally I prefer Betty Buckley’s voice to Patti Lupone’s unintelligible screeching and yelling, but I’m probably inviting all manner of attacks from Patti’s ardent worshippers of her - in my view - overrated talent and while they also make excuses for her even worse personality.
Lupone refused to perform after she was told Glenn Close had been signed to play Norma in LA and on Broadway. That led to a stand off with Webber, and she was fired. He eventually had to pay her $1 million in damages. Buckley won a Best Supporting Actress Tony for "Cats".
Brendan-Kailer Lieb I just edited my comment to include “Featured” as I’m pretty sure they call it Featured and not Supporting but I could be wrong.
And Glenn was and will be the best Norma ever!
And Cats is a great musical!
You're just wrong. She is trashing Cats becasue it's not good and obviously not the kind of show Patti likes - she prefers character driven shows like Sondheims. People project on Patti a lot of emotion she doesn't actually feel. Sure she's bitter about Sunset but to twist that into a weird anti-Buckley anti-Cats thing makes no sense.
Les Miserables is boring. I fell asleep.
Andy is right. He is a terrible actor.
The audience is masked but not the host or guests. Cool, huh!
Masks are for liberal crybabies who have no faith in God
Patti is too inside the "bubble"..... Long playing shows give new fans a place to see the work done...... Maybe term limits on over opinionated actresses should be on her agenda. .... ha ha
And just like that…. Is TOO woke
So tacky
Oh, Patti… get over it. Cats, Phantom, Sunset, and I’m quite sure Evita (had it not given some weight to her name) are all overrated in her opinion. As much as I admire this woman, she is catty and bitter. Her book was a padded gossip column with a few factual errors in the mix.
The only reason why she said all that was because of how ALW treated her when she was doing Sunset Boulevard on the West End, so I think it’s deserved whenever she hates on him. She has the right to share her own opinion, and she’s pretty funny while doing it.
Get over yourself...
It's funny because Evita was Webber's peak musical (Phantom is just popular emo goth music ripoff garbage) and the said composer would dump Tim Rice shortly after the Broadway production opening that starred Patti. Tim Rice had a much more successful career than ALW. You should read how much Tim Rice really despises Webber and was hard to work with, makes Patti's comments much more civil by comparison.
@@mathautist I’ve read Tim Rice’s autobiography and they worked together after Evita. Nothing big, but they certainly collaborated. If Tim Rice has personal issues with Lloyd Webber that’s none of my business. The constant lambasting by this performer of a composer’s entire catalogue is grating. Much like this opinion to many I would imagine. I have every respect for Patti LuPone but she holds a grudge. Even her comments about Hal Prince after his passing were appalling.
Patti can’t sing like the best - Barbra!!! Bwahahaha
Yeah, she cant sing like Barbra because she sings way better
Patty needs to get over her Andrew Lloyd Webber bitterness for being dumped to play Norma Desmond 30 years ago. At least in public. She comes off as small which she is not.
At her present weight, that hydraulic set wouldn’t get an inch off the ground.
Phantom and Cats are terribly overrated. Webber steals other composer's works and trashes them with synthesizers. Phantom didn't even win a best score Tony Award.
@@brendan-kailerlieb4347 Well that’s what matters: awards. 🤣😂
@@MondoMiami, in this case it did, because everyone knew his "Phantom" score was ripped off from other composer's works.
Patti!! Get over the Lloyd Weber hatred. You made a lot of money off a broken contract for Sunset, bought a country home with a pool and got more work eventually. Cats & Phantom are not the "worst". Apparently you never saw Dance Of The Vampires?
Or Hamilton 🤮
I don't know Patti LuPone - I've only seen some interviews with her, where she usually dishes about other, way more successful stars, and some of her performances on YT. I don't see anything special about her. OK voice (there are so many like her), mediocre acting. She seems funny but also quite bitter to me - maybe she knows she is not Streisand, she knows she is not Madonna (I do realize Madonna is not a good singer, but a great performer), and she can't hide it? Could someone explain to me who she actually is?
Madonna and Streisand are bigger stars than LuPone. Streisand is among the few performers awarded an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. Madonna became a world wide famous pop star. Madonna is ranked as the 4th best selling of artists of all time (behind The Beatles, Elvis, and Michael Jackson). LuPone is best known for her work in Musicals. LuPone is a Juilliard Graduate. Madonna dropped out of college and Streisand never attended college. LuPone probably feels she should be more successful than them both because of that and that’s why she’s bitter. And Madonna was given the role of Evita Perón For the film. It must have been a slap in the face for LuPone. She’s a talented singer but when she takes jabs at others it isn’t so becoming of her.
Streisand was too young for dolly
@@ah4442 Even Bette Midler managed to accomplish more.
What's just okay about her voice?
@@popland1977 I mean - she obviously can sing. :) I wrote that her voice was "OK" because I don't find it special.
Cynthia Nixon and a horse answer questions.
Patti Lupone is the most over rated actress and singer on Broadway!
She reminds me of Ethyl Merman a belter in song & personality with no nuance as an actress or performer.
Nobody raves about Lupone, she hasn't won many awards (compare to Audra or Julie). How is she overrated? I think you don't understand the term overrated.
Patti loves Patti!
Patti LuPone is a venomous fishwife.
LOL.😀
She's always so bitter and angry!!!
The ones with her in it
