I'm also a retired hair stylist of over 30 years and totally agree! I've been using this method on my long, grey hair for over 2 years now and love it! I only wish I had known about it sooner, so I could have recommended it to clients.
IVE NEEDED THIS FOREVERRR. I’m a side sleeper and the original way is so uncomfortable for me and falls out sometimes. Can’t wait to try this ❤️ thank you
I can't look in a mirror & do mine I actually close my eyes and think about what I'm doing it's like French braids without a middle. I recommend practicing on smaller parts of your hair or even a dolls hair . Don't give up! Or try on someone else you'll get it
i've been doing a variation of the heatless curls for years. nice little up-do by day, and baffles everyone how great it looks when i let it down later. i must say, though, the zig zag parting is genius for both hiding the parting and adding volume. bravo!
@Juanis I part, and then start a piece from temple fastened with a bobby pin on either side. Using the starting piece, I wrap piece by piece down to the bottom. Continue wrap/twist until the end of hair. For styling, I cross the two pieces over and fasten with a small claw clip. Then continue wrapping each piece around the clip (opening the clip each time to secure new piece) until the end. It sits low on back of head. I've also twisted them into low buns, securing each with a clip. Biggest difference is I wrap the hair on itself, as opposed to around a piece of fabric. I hope this helps!
I'd love to see this done. I have waist lengt hair and had almost 4 inches cut for a fresh holiday look, but always grow it back to butt length basically through summer. I don't use heat often for hair health and do just as you mentioned, wear it up and let it down but mine has lose waves. It's baby fine hair and so far my only heatless tighter curls are when I braid it damp and dry. h@@PaechesLenore
I have no words for this tutorial. Game changer for me. Thank you so much. I was good with the original technique too but this one is much more comfortable to sleep and the curls are much more wild ❤
IF YOU HAVE THIN HAIR THIS IS THE HEATLESS CURL METHOD FOR YOU! I’ve never been able to get heatless curls to work, which has caused years of heat damage. This, however, made my curls absolutely beautiful and lasted all day. 10/10 would recommend❤️
Did you guys use any styling agents? Like texturing spray? My mom wants her hair curled and has thin hair but I worry with timing for my sister's wedding
Ive been doing your original version for like 2 years now, and I just tried this new method! I have different hair type and weird shaped head/face so I looked ridiculous, lol, and thought its not gonna work, but it did!! The end result was AMAZING!! thankyou SO much!!
I love that you describe your hair as medium thickness. Mine is about a twentieth of yours! Subscribing anyway because you describe really well. Even though I haven’t enough hair to follow this. I’ve enough for one curl ! Well done on the lovely curls.
I’m currently sat with my hair like this, it’s such an easier and more stable way to do heatless curls, it’s amazing! My hair isn’t as long as yours and has some layers so it can feel loose normally and is so uncomfortable to sleep on! Can’t wait to see my hair in the morning 👍
@@ShonaghScott loved it! My hair was super curly this morning and it only fell out slightly. I use L’Oréal hyaluronic acid spray to wet it slightly and I slept much better👍
I can’t wait to try this! The robe curls with alternating 360 wraps got me the best results ever, but I am a sensitive side sleeper, so I rarely do it. (Basically only when my schedule lets me I do it in the morning and wear it all day at home.) My go-to is a padded tool that makes a topknot (sort of like a satin donut bun form WTH an integrated scrunchie) but you can’t alternate directions and it sits on top of the head, so you get long sections on top that can end up flat or wonky, and I usually end up needing to do touch-ups with a heat tool. That is maybe 70% as good as proper robe curls, but doesn’t interfere with my sleep. This looks like it will take some practice, but if I can sleep in it, I will be so excited.
That is a both beautiful and youthful looking hairstyle. I really like how it helps women avoid wearing those extremely uncomfortable flexi-rods to bed that hurt while we sleep. This definitely looks like a hairstyle someone could wear daily and easily sleep on nightly. What a fascinating new method! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
I feel like a freaking genius - few weeks ago I tried it this way and thought how I came up with something no one thought off. Great minds think alike 😁😁 It’s an awesome technic and your video is amazing!
I can't wait to try this! I wrapped my last night w/ two socks the old way. I could NOT sleep. It was too tight. It hurt and then I got DIZZY when I rolled over - several times! I came to work swearing off this technique. Until YOU! Ready to try it again - thank you!!! -- Sheri
Your first tutorial gave me lovely waves for Valentine's & my Birthday, but I didn't sleep very well! Thank you so much for reverse-engineering this!!!
I have been searching for inspiration for heatless curls on my already curly hair. So glad I was recommended this video! Modifying to have 2 rows for more curls and using a silk scarf. My hair is set for tonight! Can already tell sleep will be wonderful and Super excited to see the results tomorrow!! Thank you for this!
Girl I have never been able to sleep comfortably at night curling my hair and I slept like a baby with this method! ❤❤ still have to spot dry because I have long thick hair, but totally worth it!
OOO!!! So excited to try this one. I've been using your other technique for years and every time I saw someone on tiktok doing robe curls, I recommended your video and your wrapping method because it works so much better!!
I'm trying this tonight, and we call them dressing gowns in Australia :) I have exactly the same one as you same colour even, a staple during covid !!!
Thank you, thank you thank you I’m a side sleeper and I gave up because it hurts so bad I never got a good nights rest. I’ll look gorgeous but I was always in a bad mood. This will help tremendously.❤
Just tried this on my 18 YO daughter last night. She has long blonde, super thick and kind of course hair. I used the robe tie from a Barefoot Dreams robe, so the material isn’t quite the velvety type you showed, but it worked amazing. I doubled the robe tie the entire way and she has the most perfect loose curls.❣️❣️❣️
@@ShonaghScott I had to come back to this comment and just tell you that I have NEVER EVER EVER tried a heatless curls method that has worked this well. I have tried every heatless curl method out there I’m pretty sure and none of them have given me this awesome of a curl pattern and this VOLUME! Just wanted to thank you again!! My hair says thank you also 🥰 the only way I’ve ever been able to achieve curls like this is with a curling iron. I love getting the same effect with no heat! Thank you!! ❤️

Thanks Shonagh, this looks beautiful. I've got the same length hair as you & normally when I curl my hair with curling tongs, after a couple of hours, my hair is as straight. I shall definitely give this a go 😉♥️ 🇬🇧 Xx
it must be damp hair and/or some spray/foam that will hold the hair style. if i do it on dry hair, the results are gone quickly. if i don't use some hair styling products, the results are gone quickly.
Have been thinking about a more comfortable method for heatless curls. Like you say you want a good night’s sleep but want pretty hair too! I’ve stopped blow drying completely after watching your robe tie tutorial way back. So relaxing and comforting to listen to you. Looking forward to trying this method. This will take me some practice though so I shouldn’t do it too close to bed when I’m tired. Lol.
I am so glad now that I didn't waste money on that tubular thing from eBay! 😍😍😍 Using a fabric belt is SO genius! Except for the part where my nearly-knee-length hair is too long for one, BUT I CAN SEW TWO TOGETHER!!! 😁😁😁
I switched to a silky scarf and for me it works better than the fleece robe belt. There is less friz and the curls are tighter which works good for me since I have long hair. Also I hold the ends with small octopus clips to keep them nice with no dents.
@Professor Mason they're like the claw clips that everyone is wearing now except the octopus clips have curved prongs that allow for a stronger grip in the hair.
Loved this! I’ve actually done the original method after seeing your video a few times and once on my daughter, it’s sooooo fun and satisfying unwrapping the hair! I love the “zigzag” look I love doing it so I cannot WAIT to try this 😁
After trying the other method and it not working and not being able to sleep with it, I came across your video. What a great detailed tutorial (thank you) and it worked fantastically. My hair had dried out on the ends from using heat and now I can still have curls - and sleep! Thank you. 😀
I was actually searching for the unicorn method that’s been around lately, but I think I’m going to try this instead!! I have a “robe tie” I made myself with silk, so it’s a silk cylinder that I stuffed with soft foam. I wasn’t sure what I would use for the unicorn method and my silk curler will work perfectly for this method. This is so brilliant. I stopped doing the normal method because I was getting breakage on the sides from sleeping on the wrapped hair. Edit: I just went and watched a unicorn method tutorial, and while it seems like an ok method it suffers from the “curls all going to same way” problem. The reverse method seems superior! Here I go to try it lol. My hair is so coarse and sticky it’s so hard to do this kind of stuff haha
Gorgeous! As a great-grandparent and retired hairstylist, this brings back memories of childhood Rag Curls, from the 19th and early 20th century. Obviously, these curls are a lot softer due to the thicker robe tie and more thoughtful placement. Rag Curls tended to be randomly placed on the scalp, completely ignoring any idea of comfort or outcome. What stands out to me, though, is your technique of alternate wrapping. It's brilliant! This is my first time watching your channel, so I haven't seen what else you offer, but I must say that I also like how you developed a way to add volume at the root, on the crown. Again...brilliant! I have short hair now in my old age, but I have been growing out the hair at the crown to add length and try some new styles. My hair is completely white now, so I have to be careful not to apply too much heat, or the hair becomes singed and turns yellow. I've been searching for a no-heat method to add a bit of curl and some volume, and I think I've found it here. Well, I'm off to subscribe and find me a soft tie to try out your method. Wish me luck, and thank you for sharing your technique.
This was so great to read. I remember my Mum doing rag curls on me as child and I agree, no comfort and the ends used to be quite scraggly 😅 This is my second video of this technique, the first still uses the same alternating wrapping technique but in the traditional manner of placing them down either of the head, much like Dutch braids. Still a gorgeous outcome, I just started to find that comfort of sleep Vs results wasn’t enough of a tipping point for me 🤣 so I came up with this method that was much more comfortable for side sleepers AND gave more root volume! Your white hair sounds glorious, my Nan has pepper grey hair and despises it. She longs for natural white hair so yes, very important for you to keep it white! I hope you enjoy trying this method, and perfecting it in your own manner to suit your shorter style.
Thank you for this vid. My hair is all one length down to middle of the rear. Thick. I'm 73 years. My hair is natural color, grey and brown. I've been just letting it go natural with the natural curl. But its tiny zig zag waves. I'm going to try this method to smooth it. Probably need to have more than 2. Thanks again. You hair is beautiful.
I love this method, and I so appreciate you showing us how to do both sides. I’ve seen plenty of videos about this before but it does help to see two sides, one after the other. Now all I need is a robe tie. I don’t have one and no one I know has one to spare so I’ll have to figure that out. Anyways, thanks for sharing your technique. I’m going to try it ASAP.
If you can find a child’s bathrobe cheap that’s a great way to get your hands on one! It’s the soft terry material that I find works the best, rather than the harder material that some adult bathrobes come with. So pleased you found this method and seeing both sides helpful! Let me know how you get on trying it.
@@ShonaghScott Thank you for that great suggestion. I can’t believe that a year has gone by and I haven’t tried your method yet! It was because I didn’t have a robe tie and then my life just moved on. 😄 Anyways, thanks for your response. I’m getting on the job now. 👍🏼💪🏼
I'm new here but have to say thank you so much for showing the whole process. Other's I've seen and tried didn't work out at all. Will try this tmw night and let y'all know how it comes out ☺️
I think I'll prefer this method. My only complaint with the original method is that my fringe, as you call it, is more flat with very little volume on top. I use a long, rectangular scarf instead of a robe tie; I have medium length, very thick hair. Thank you for a new method!
I love clever hacks like this. The worst thing is sleeping with things that drive you crazy so you can try to look nice LOL This method accounts for every potential issue and has a beautiful result 🙂
I agree! I decided to try and address the main issues with the original method I shared, the main problem being a lack of sleep while wearing it! 😅 this makes for a much better nights sleep!
This really isn't overnight hairstyle for everyone. You have to be at least a little experienced at braiding. I tried it tonight and it turned out looking great! I did it with long scarf. It was easier than other sleep-in hairstyles that I tried (and without the scarf). I like that it stays in place! I was looking for nice overnight curls hairstyle but also comfortable to sleep in and this is it! Thank you! Can't wait for the results in the morning
I’m awful with a curling iron and it never comes out the way I want it to plus I worry about heat damage. I can’t wait to try this method! Thank you for the very clear explanation!
Helpful and unique points:- 1)small curl doesn't look good at the end,but you gave idea how we can make it big. 2)we should keep regular partition .zig zag partition is a brilliant idea
Can't wait to give these a try. Fantastic tips and excellent tutorial! I really appreciate that you've taken the time to create a technique that is not only effective for great curls but realistic for sleeping. So many overnight curls ignore the fact that you will smash these curls into a pillow and blankets that are not the ideal silky smooth fabric for nice hair but static-y cotton cloth potentially with drool from either yourself or your bedmates (partner and/or kids lol). Overnight curls are meant for people who need a reliable method to look their best that can be integrated into a busy schedule. I prefer heat styling but I just don't have the time or patience anymore. Work plus kids plus college? Yeah... That's a recipe for buns and sad ponytails. But this? I think I can do this. Gonna try it with my silk scarves cuz my fine ass hair will frizz if I look at it wrong. Can't wait to see how it goes! Thank you so much for tutorial! ❤️
I'm really excited to try this! I've really loved the way my hair curls with the robe-tie method (it's honestly the only way I've been able to get my hair to curl nicely without heat). But, the other day, I was just thinking to myself about how I wish it did a better job curling my hair on the back of my head. My hair isn't super long to begin with so I've hard time incorporating that part of my hair until the very end and then I end up with really beautiful curls in the front but this weird U shape in the back with hardly anything. Plus I've noticed that the place where I part my hair is really visible so I was wondering how to fix that. This couldn't have come at a better time! I'll see if I can try it tonight! :)
RUclips be reading my mind with its algorithm. I tried the trending rod thing and couldn't sleep with it. Then this popped up in my feed. But I'm glad it did! Gonna return the rod and try this.
I love this ! Thank you for such a clear , no fuss, no over talking video . This is the ONLY tutorial i go to do this . I've got a wedding coming up in 2 weeks so i'm practising now, tonight is my 3rd attempt ! Can you suggest a soft hair spray or something to hold the curls for the day ? i don't know anything about hairsprays, i just know i don't want the heavy super strong Bristows i used to use in the 80's for my then back brushed fluffy , spiky hair ! lol !
You are so welcome! Have you tried a lightweight mousse on the hair before wrapping? This is usually a great technique for added hold. Or, you could try L’Oréal Pli, it’s a thermal modelling spray, spritz it onto the hair before wrapping then just add a little heat from the hair dryer to activate the spray. I know it seems counterintuitive to add heat to a heatless look but it’s not hot like a tong, just enough to warm up the product within the hair. It’s hold the curls MUCH better than hairspray and without the crunch.
This is fantastic. Great instructional video. Thank you! Was wondering, if you had any thoughts on super clean hair or two day clean hair type thing. My hair is 35 inches long and super thick. I wash it twice a week so would be good to know what would be best for keeping the curl in after. Thank you again. Cheers from BC Canada 🇨🇦
I had frozen shoulders a few years ago and they're still not the same so anything I do to my hair I have to do upside down, this way is going to be so much easier for me! ❤
I can see why you might think so but it’s not quite the same as braiding. Try this technique and then on another evening try the braiding technique and you’ll see how different the outcome is ☺️
This is so great, but I don't fancy my chances. I have a lot of very fine hair and unfortunately that's a bad combination for any kind of braid. My robe curls always get a bit tangled, they're never a smooth line. I wish I could do it as seemlessly as you do!
AS A RETIRED HAIR STYLIST OF OVER 30 YEARS , THIS IS BRILLIANT !!
Thanks so much!! Glad you love it!

I remember my Mum doing rag curls on me as child and I agree, no comfort and the ends used to be quite scraggly 😅
This is my second video of this technique, the first still uses the same alternating wrapping technique but in the traditional manner of placing them down either of the head, much like Dutch braids.
So excited to try! It actually looks so cute as a go to sleep look. Lol. ❤
@@tamaramorton8812 enjoy FINALLY trying it! 🤗🥳
Do you know what size scarf you used by chance?
I’m awful with a curling iron and it never comes out the way I want it to plus I worry about heat damage. I can’t wait to try this method! Thank you for the very clear explanation!
Pleased to have helped! It’s great for saving your hair from heat damage.
Helpful and unique points:-
1)small curl doesn't look good at the end,but you gave idea how we can make it big.
2)we should keep regular partition .zig zag partition is a brilliant idea
Love this!! Absolutely love your curls! Thank you
Thank you, Kathleen!!
Okay trying this! Beautiful ❤
Be sure to tag me so I can see your results! I love this method as it’s so much curlier at the top and way more comfortable to sleep in 🙌🏼 ♥️
Can't wait to give these a try.
Oh have fun trying this method! I hope you love the result.
Miss ma’am, you are a genius
Thank you!! 🫶🏼
I have A LOT of hair, so I couldn't sleep with this in. But I'm still going to try it during the day for whenever I'm going to go out at night.
This was always so difficult for me. I’m going to watch your videos.
I hope they help you!
Unbelievable pretty your construction with the belt. Ready to go to the beach😊. And the curls are so gorgeous as natural ones👍🏼
Thank you! I agree Anthea! Cute up-do with a lovely curly result at the end.
This was an amazing tutorial!! 💖
Thank you so much!!
RUclips be reading my mind with its algorithm. I tried the trending rod thing and couldn't sleep with it. Then this popped up in my feed. But I'm glad it did! Gonna return the rod and try this.
Amazing, enjoy recreating these curls!!
Absolutely beautiful!
This sounds good. I will try it tonight. I hate when heatless curls destroy my sleep.
Me too! I need sleep!
I tried this and it turned out awesome. I wish I could send you a picture!
Wonderful! I’m so pleased you love the results. I usually get tagged in results over on Instagram @showmemakeup
EXCEPTIONALLY well explained and described tutorial. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Tried this last night. Total fail 😑 at least I had a semi comfortable sleep! Will try again maybe.
This is GENIUS. I'm so excited to try this! Thank you.
Hope you like it!
Wow wow wow❤❤❤ absolutely loving this❤
Thanks Camelia!
Am I weird or is that a really cute look with ribbon or something?
Haha, lots of people said this in the original video.
I was thinking the same. I think it looks super cute!! 🥰
It's not uncommon to do with small ribbons
Well explained. Great method. Thank You.
You are welcome!
Lady, you are a genius 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Haha, thank you! 🫶🏼
So beautiful! Hopefully some day mine looks like this. Thank you for sharing😊
You’re welcome 😊
Amazing! Going to try it right away
Hope you like it!
Looks so beautiful ❤
Thank you!
OMG!! this is GORGEOUS!!
Thanks, Megan!! 🫶🏼
This is genius!
Thank you!
Holey moley!!! GAME. CHANGER!!
Certainly is!!
I will definitely try it. Thanks
Hope you enjoy
This is gorgeous! Wish I had 2 extra hands to do this! Can't sleep with nothing in my hair!
So beautifully neat! I can’t imagine I’d be able to do it this well. My hair is too thin at the moment I think.
It might surprise you! Give it a try!
Best tutorial I’ve seen ❤❤
Yay!!!
I had frozen shoulders a few years ago and they're still not the same so anything I do to my hair I have to do upside down, this way is going to be so much easier for me! ❤
Oh wow, that mostly definitely can’t have been fun. Sorry to hear you’ve not fully recovered but I’m pleased to have helped!
Oh I love this, can't wait to try it! ❤
I hope you love the result!
I can’t sleep with Halle Amherst but on top of my head. Thank you!
La película merecía ser nominada para muchos más Oscares.
Haha, *bows* Thank you!
lovee this sooo much! ❤
So pleased you’re loving this technique!
Incredible 🤩
Thanks Elisa!
You look like Sandra Bullock. Thank you for this!
I’ve heard that a lot in the past 🤩 thank you.
GENIUS!
Thanks Ashley!
Beautiful :)...Thanks for sharing, I will try.
Most welcome 😊 enjoy trying it for yourself!
Love this!! Thanks ❤🎉
You're so welcome!
Everyone who still has your hair, please remember to be grateful for it and treat it well
Trying this asap!
Where do I buy this awesome wrap at??
It’s from a bathrobe :)
FANTASTIC
Glad you think so!
This is science girl🥰
☺️🫶🏼
Very nice, I'm trying this tonight. By the way, I prefer the warmer tone.
Enjoy! And thank you.
Trying this ASAP!!
Enjoy!
Your wrapping technic is basically just braiding 😊
I can see why you might think so but it’s not quite the same as braiding. Try this technique and then on another evening try the braiding technique and you’ll see how different the outcome is ☺️
@@ShonaghScott Oo I see it now 🤭
This is so great, but I don't fancy my chances. I have a lot of very fine hair and unfortunately that's a bad combination for any kind of braid. My robe curls always get a bit tangled, they're never a smooth line. I wish I could do it as seemlessly as you do!
If yiur hair is super thick cam you do 2 robe ties
Absolutely!!!
Genius!!
Thanks Claudine!
