    Thanks for the feature ! I’m sorry to hear about that awful weather you’re experiencing - I feel like you’d resonate with “Lousy Smarch Weather,” it’s about a terrible ice storm I got stuck in a few years ago and was terrified for my life, and the aftermath of that. Change, anxiety and grief are at the core of this record - and trying to wrap that up those themes in way that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Really enjoy your content and have deep respect. Have a great day !

    There was a parody of the BeeGees in the late 70s called Meaningless Songs In Very High Voices by the HeeBeeGeeBees which pretty much nailed the creepy weirdness.

    Self-love is so neglected, and is the foundation for healthy love of others (and so the foundation of healthy communities)!
    And to treating ourselves and each other like commodities, think of the phrase "spending time" in relation to how time is experienced without the money relation. To "spend" time...an almost sickening notion that finance has infected how we talk about temporality!
    Is it any wonder relationships situated in time can so easily become transactional?

    Im not ashamed to admit the severe weather puts me on edge. I unplug the stereo and home theater and hunker down. Scares the hell out of me.

    Ian is at home yelling at his phone -“What the fuck?! D! Billy Joel!?!?!?”

      LOL I do like Billy Joel but wouldn’t call him a particular influence. I had the Greatest Hits Vol 3 on cd growing up, and of course my parents had a few albums but I don’t really recall listening to it much. “Moving Out” and “Piano Man” are great songs, though. 😛 He very well may have influenced Nate’s singing ? Nate’s background is in theater, so probably not too far off, I first discovered him playing Judas in a college production of Godspell and the rest is history I suppose …

      Billy Joel nylon curtain is one of my favorite albums of his but mainly because of the recording so I think Ian should be flattered. Haha

    If I see people traveling I get jealous , I don’t even like traveling that much. It’s just some reaction, curse of social media. Yeah flying is weird, it’s incredible hardly anything happens with all those iron birds in the air. It shouldn’t be possible .

    Of course, the Bee Gees didn't use that falsetto vocal approach on their earlier albums, which I prefer.

      Very true about their earlier albums being different. I have their two Greatest Hits compilations and I was shocked when I listened to them because it sounds nothing like the disco music they became famous for.

    I have a bunch of friends who are going crazy over the Refestramus release. It’s definitely a throwback to a lot of those classic I think cool rock, bands, Styx , Kansas, etc. And once again, I’m all about the mix and the mastering and it’s superb in my opinion.

      I spend a lot of time doing avant garde, jazz and instrumental stuff - and to me it’s nice to do something once in awhile that showcases I’m not a one trick pony. I like being able to produce the Muffins one moment and turn around and get a big arena rock sound. To me it’s all music and I can find something to enjoy and stick bits of my personality into.

    Agree w/you about Van Halen and the Bee Gee's. Can't stand that falseto. In high school Van Halen was our "back yard party band". Couldn't stand them then or now. Went to a show at the Pasadena Civic Auditorum. David LR said "we're going to do a Beatles song". Preceded to play "You Really Got Me" by the Kinks. I yelled that it was a Kinks song. Couldn't believe that was their first hit.

    Hi Dereck
    One of my viewers told me he lets hi 2 year old twins watch my videos. Although I don't have a big channel I'm proud that my channel is family friendly and parents entrust my channel to their kids . wow that touches me! Trish

    I used to love to travel and I have traveled a lot over the years, but I’m in the same place as you Dereck, I like being at home now, I’m glad I traveled when I was younger as it was the best time to do it and see the world, but the thought of going to the airport with so many people and sitting on a plane for hours and dealing with more people from place to place doesn’t interest me anymore.

    Dereck, don't you like the Bee Gees early albums up until at least Trafalgar? I personally like them 'til the album Mr. Natural, but the later disco stuff can be hit & miss.

    • @dereckvon
      @dereckvon  3 месяца назад +1

      They aren't doing the ridiculous falsetto on those records.

    • @jay.watchman9986
      @jay.watchman9986 3 месяца назад

      Yeah, it can be a bit grating. Even on songs I really like by them, like "Fanny (Be Tender)" the falsetto can be a little unnecessary.
      But on something like "You Should Be Dancing" (100 percent disco and falsetto)? No thanks, I think I'll pass.

      A song like "Edison" off of Odessa is what I like from the Bee Gees. Good Baroque Chamber Pop songs.
