One of my favorite reggae songs. Also one of my favorites to do too in high school when you could find it. I am going to start following Lj around to all of his Goodwill hot spots. Well said. I've realized much of the music I came up on, I know it well. I know I'll always love that stuff but to not venture out and explore more and keep listening to the same stuff is masturbatory. I think those artists and bands have an important place, but if you are going to continue with music and keep that passion alive you can't listen to the same albums over and over because no matter what you say, some part of you is going to get burned out and it becomes background noise.
Great vids as usual! Love your comments about prog versus mainstream. Agree with you 100%. Just bought the Tony Banks album and also an album from Anthony Phillips, The Geese and The Ghost'. Post Genesis-Trespass, English whimsical prog rock! Now there's a mouthful to savour! Thanks for the recommendations, as ever!
Oh man, Dereck you are so correct about Xmal Deutschland. They were amazing back in the day. John Peel used to play the hell out of them. Almost every track they released he played. Great, great band, I loved them. Anja Huwe from the band still performs and is also an artist these days. They also got quite heavily involved in the whole This Mortal Coil stuff. I like Tony Banks first solo record too. I have not heard it in a few years. I'll give it a spin tonight. I still have my vinyl copy. Prog to me is a mixture different musical styles that would normally not go together. Prog finds a clever way to make it work. Of course as a listener you have to be open minded to get it, but that is what makes it rewarding to me.
Oh, man... Thembi! Just thinking about that first track makes me tear up. And then "Red, Black and Green" comes on; pass me the tissues already! Haha!
a great point about the prog scene and the mainstream music...i love that record from gordon haskell! is not prog but he's unique...i always remember him singing in that song by King Crimson Lady of the Dancing Water what a great song!

sea & cake are an interesting band. They get classed as post-rock a lot of the time, but when I listen to them I don't quite hear it, at least no on The Biz which is what I have. I do rather like their sound, just doesn't seem to fit into the post-rock box for me. :)
I heard you. I will make a video on Paul Bley, (and maybe Jimmy Giuffre also). Have most of the early Ayler albums but not the New York Eye and Ear Control. I have John Tchicai albums, will show them soon also.
