Well, at 49 years old, I just found out that I'm going to be a father for the first time (lucky me??). A couple months ago, I reconnected with a woman who has been a long time family friend, and is 10 years younger than I.
We had a great night of Italian food and wine, and I put on "The Muse" as the soundtrack to our conversation; which carried over to the bedroom. I found out this morning that apparently everything still works, and my future child was conceived to your music which was probably the icing that got her in the mood!
Thanks for the inspiration Dereck. My life will be changed drastically around November, and I plan to play "The Muse" as the first musical sounds that he or she hears.

Freddy Mercury! Van Morrison! Shots fired! Shots fired!
😂People need to lighten up. How each of us hear music is so subjective.
I think some people stumbled onto your channel through the VC and got a little more than they were expecting. Honesty!
I’m with you on vocals. I’m not great at deciphering lyrics sometimes anyway but that doesn’t matter. It’s the vocal tone that can either be enjoyable or offputting.
I was listening and dancing to the Cocteau Twins this morning and singing along to the imagined words. Liz could’ve been singing about peanut butter and I wouldn’t have known or cared.
    Have a great day, Dereck!

Been checking out your posts for a few years now when I’m able. Really enjoy your open and honest approach towards music. You’ve helped turn me on to many things I might not have discovered otherwise. I also appreciate your “words of wisdom” regarding thoughts on music, current events, etc.

Ahmed Malek was from Algeria. I own the Electronic Tapes LP and that strange structure you see on the cover is the Martyrs Memorial in Algiers. Towards the end of the album there's this synth part that was actually lifted from French artist Zanov and his 1976 album Green Ray (I own Green Ray and his other albums so I'm quite familiar with his works).

Very true what you say about both parties failing us. From long time personal experience doing frontline anti-poverty work in a few different places I've lived, I can say that it is a load off my mind to stop caring about electoral politics and just invest my efforts in doing work in my community.
Applying care directly to the wounds of society rather than voting for which flavour of knife is gonna open new wounds is a balm for the soul. I still pay attention to politics because being uninformed doesn't help anything, but I have eyes wide open and see the results of conservatives and liberals alike on unhoused folks. Tends to be same shit, different pile, and you just get to work with the shovel all the same.
Edit: commented too soon! That Ryuichi Sakamoto release is so fantastic, you got me putting it on by reminding me!

Hey Dereck ! Thank you for mentioning “Palace of Blood” - it’s the track I’m most fond of personally and feel proudest of, but I felt it got overlooked quite a lot. I’m hoping maybe its position of side 2 opener brings it some attention. That track draws upon a dark chapter in West Virginia history - sometime I’ll clue you in privately.
I certainly have no hurt feelings or ill will toward your opinion on Refestramus ! I enjoy the music, but I also enjoy Styx now and then and a few other bands you mentioned. I also enjoy high falsetto vocals LOL. It’s ok to have different tastes, and in a way I’d rather my body of work garner a variety of ‘strong’ responses than “oh this is just ok … “ I say this is all healthy. 👍

Skunk Baxter was in Ultimate Spinach, right? I really like his solo on the Steely Dan song "Boston Rag".

I think Styx/Kansas are (or were at some point) both talented and have some good material. I've seen both live too
    But not my style either

I never liked Styx, I never got the draw to them, they are talented musicians, but their songs are stupid, especially Tommy Shaw’s songs. Never liked Kansas or Queen much either. You not the Neil on the head with Billy Joel too. That documentary was eye opening about how Joel treated his band and Liberty and what money does to people. As talented as Joel is, I never liked him much, but after seeing that documentary it made me like him even less.
