I have multiple sclerosis so i understand about being fatigued by noon. Quilting this is also a time to use any kind of decorative stitch. You can still go up and down and side to side but purposely don't go exactly same distance apart, can even go wonky. If you're doing straight lines, or curved doesn't matter just have fun. You can even do several different decorative stitches on the same quilting project. I made one of these several years ago but did quilt as you go blocks for the mat part and added several pockets to hold different things. Some little pockets sewed directly to the mat and more than 1 layer of pocket fabric, with 1st layer sewn between the little pockets 2 at a time then next layer 3 at a time last layer one big pocket. Holds everything essential. I love it. You've done a beautiful job, relaxing to watch you work
It’s good to see you not pulling on the fabric while you’re stitching it down. So many people pull it while it’s being stitched. I was taught not to do that in sewing class and by my Mom and my sister in-law. My sister-in-law was an experienced seamstress. She made draperies, slip covers for furniture, clothing. Pulling the fabric in such a way, can result in breaking the machine needles. You’re doing quite well. 😻😻
Oh I just got into the sewing a few weeks ago and if I had heard your story about the needle in the thumb, I would of said, NOPE, not going to sew :). So glad you where ok. I really like this project. I think this would make a great gift to some of my friends who craft/sew! Thanks so much for sharing your talent. I love your channel.
I avoided sewing for the longest time because I had a fear of skewering my finger. I finally got over it but yeah... I try to really watch my finger position. It’s funny though how long that fear kept me away from sewing machines. I grew up with my mom sewing all the time. I also took home ec (yeah that dates me lol) and we had to sew pot holders so I knew how to sew. I’m glad it didn’t deter you from sewing afterwards.
You need to sell these and your cozy bowl holders, would love to see how you make them, how many yards of fabric I am not a very good seamstress but I would love to make this and the bowls for chili, you are my new best friend on you tube! lol..you are just the sweetest and such a good teacher, not all of us are as good at crafts but you are such a wonderful person to explain it to us in the craft world!😊
Thanks for showing how to miter the corners of the binding! It sure is the hardest for me!! Very intimidating! You made it look easy! Love your videos! Keep them coming!
I used to listen to a Canadian doctor on the radio. Someone called and asked about Shingles. The answer they gave was, anyone that has Shingles should not eat corn or anything that has corn in it. As for your projects, I love them all! Keep going! Thanks!
I think this is the nicest sewing machine mat i have seen thank you. I had a needle go thru my finger on zig zag when I was about 16. I needed surgery to remove it. your story of your machine needle gave me shivers. do you have the feeling back yet? I watch other ladies use their machines and there fingers are so close they worry me. thanks again.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I’ve always wanted something like this to put under my Sewing Machine and my Serger. This looks so quick and easy so, I will be giving this a try. Thanks again.
Hi Deanna! Love your channel. Maybe put a pin cushion or magnetic mat into the mat to the right side of where the sewing machine sits. Also this would be cute for an arm chair caddy.
OMG I had my finger stuck in there when I was threading my machine. I forgot to turn my machine off and my foot slipped on the pedal and WHAM! It went through. I am 11 years old and that was in May during the pandemic. I was making masks. I screamed and my mom was more scared then me. I called my friend's mom and she told me to soak it in iodine. The next day I started sewing again with a cool story to tell to my virtual class.
How wonderful is this, love the fabric !! I have had shingles twice , the last time was a coup,e years ago and it was near my eye, painful as all get out, as my grandmother would say !
Love this fabric! Thank you for showing us how to make this! I also have sewn through my finger and it did HURT! It was a lesson learned to slow down and pay attention....LOL
Hi Deanna, I love this tutorial and I love, love the sewing notions fabric. Would you please tell me where you purchased it from? Thank you so much! Cheryl
Very cute the only thing I would have done was the bias tape in black 👍🏼 and I would add another stripe of fabric on top of the red & white fabric to add some smaller pockets because sometimes you have things that are shorter and the 1st pockets are really deep 👍🏼 that’s just something I would do 🌻
Another fantastic video that I can't wait to try! Thank you so much for sharing your talents!! The story about you sewing your finger made me squeamish but I knew your Dear Husband would rescue you!! What a great guy! Thank you again! I too was wondering where you found the adorable sewing machine fabric?
Sandwich/quilt some Insul-Brite to part that sits between the sewing machine and the edge of the table, to iron with a mini iron. Also, fold this in half and sew on ties so you can wear it as an apron with the pockets in front. That way everything you need can go with you from cutting table to ironing board back to the sewing machine. It doesn't need to live just under the sewing machine.
I am just a begginer at sewing.do we need bias binding (or tape/piping)in straight pieces as well or we use them when there is some curve in a cloth in which we are attaching a piping/tape?
Oooooooch! I know that hurt. Anyway I have to have one of these for sure. I was into quilting for a long time too. I got bored with it and ventured into other things. This weekend is non stop koozies and wreath bases for craft fair.
Thanks for the great tutorial. I'm off on vacation till October but I will do this when I get back. It looks so handy and I love that fabric. I am not much of a sewer, but I did manage to sew through my thumbnail when I was a kid and my mom was 'trying' to teach me. I tend to have a lead foot with the pedal!. Now I just like to sew 'projects' and fun things, no clothes either. Looking forward to the chicken! :-)
Yes, I've had shingles, and they are very painful. I had them under my bra on my back, which made it worse. I had a very smart dr, she right away put a plastic shield over them, so they didn't spread. Air makes them spread, and I couldn't scratch them or my bra irritate them. I just had to change the plastic shield every couple of days. Horribly uncomfortable.
Can’t wait to make this. But first I have to dig my sewing machine out from under all my other crafting stuff! My mom had shingles. She was miserable. I’m waiting for the vaccine to come in stock then I’ll be taking it.
Your skills are lovely. If you don’t consider yourself a seamstress perhaps you would like the term “sewist.” It is a real term no matter what spellcheck reads!🥰
Oh yes, I had shingles starting in mid abdomen and going all the way around to my middle back. I had really large pustules and could not wear any clothes. I wore only loose gowns and I didn’t have any energy, I was really sick for over a week. Of course, I was in my mid 70’s which is probably what made then so bad. I even missed one of my favorite sister-in-laws funeral. Don’t want them again.
I will never get the shingles because I have never had the chicken pox. when my sister had them , my mother made me sleep in the bed with my sister, hoping I would get them from her. But I did not get the chicken pox. Since then I have been exposed to the chicken pox many times in my 63 years, but have never come down with them. My daughter is the same way also. She was exposed to the chickenpox in 2nd grade but she did not get them . Instead she brought it home and her two brothers came down with very light cases of chicken pox. She has been exposed to the chicken pox many times but she has never gotten them, like me.

Excellent demonstration on, tutorial on a sewing a matt with pockets for a sewing machine.
Made this tonight. Been wanting to make for awhile. I added another row of pockets. Loving it. I will be using it at my sewing class next week.

Joann
Thank you for making it easy to make for beginners like myself.
That came out really nice. I never saw a sewing machine mat before, but that looks really handy. What a great idea.

joyvrolyat thank u! No needles stopped me! I was back to sewing 30 min later!!
Thank you for explaining slowly. 😂 I'm a beginner at sewing. But you explained it nicely. 😊 I'm going to make my mom one for mothers day.
You can do it!

Not fun!

She used a fat quarter, They are 18x21”
I know that you are making a sewing machine mat, but that could be a really nice baby blanket too.

Do you have to use a walking foot?
Wow how cute is that !here I was purchasing ugly mats for my machine lol thanks will have to try that.
Oooooooch! I know that hurt. Anyway I have to have one of these for sure. I was into quilting for a long time too. I got bored with it and ventured into other things. This weekend is non stop koozies and wreath bases for craft fair.

Please. You need to stop saying “I went ahead and...”. Listen to your video. Count how many times you say “I went ahead and ___.”
bonnie musselman I agree. It gets tiresome after hearing it so much. I did really enjoy your video tho.
