This has video is the only one I’ve seen so far that helps me to understand how to sew a dust cover. Thank you for explaining and showing how you sew each corner of the dust cover. A lot of videos don’t go into detail about that.
Thanks for a great tutorial! I have a 4-needle embroidery machine that I want to cover and this will help me a lot. The idea of the fusible fleece is amazing! And, I enjoy your style of teaching. You get to the point, don't waste time and give valuable information. I appreciate it all! Bless you.
Hello, and thank you so much for posting this video. I have used it twice. Once to make a cover for my sowingmashine, and once for making a cover for my Kenwood foodproccesor. Your Language is very articulative, and it makes you easy to understand. With love from Lena, Stavanger, Norway
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. For a whole at the top I recommend making the whole cover first and then place it over your machine and make some rough marks of where you want the opening to begin & end. Stitch with a zig zag a little outside your marking lines and then cut it out. That's a real simple way to make it. Hope that helps.
Congrats on your new machine. I'm sure there are a few ways to do it. I would probably do it after the cover is done. measure on your machine where exactly the opening should be located on all sides. Transfer those measurements to your cover. Stitch around it maybe witha zig zag stitch and then cut out the opening so your edges are already zig zagged, or finish it with some seam binding or something if you don't like that look. I'm using a Janome 11542 in the video. Thanks for watching.
Oh, Thank You, so very much---I needed a cover for the new machine I received---this is so easy---need easy--have not sewn in over 45 years---You are so informative--
Great tutorial. As a new sewer I really need all the steps broken down. I appreciated how you included your calculations so that I could modify for my sewing machine's dimensions.
I just bought a new brother sewing machine to take to quilting class. I need to make a tote bag for the machine. these videos are great can wait to start the tote bag tomorrow Thanks Donna
I was looking for a simple tutorial for making a sewing machine cover, I am still very new to using a machine, yours was the easiest to follow and i cant wait to have a go. I look forward to seeing more things i can make using your tutorials.
Hi I am teaching myself how to sew it keeps me busy. I am disabled so I don't get to do much but since I have been watching your videos I have been learning and making a lot of things. Thanks you are the best !!
I didn’t need anything but exactly what you showed, mostly because I’m limited on time. And using the different fabrics was super sensible. I’m visiting my daughter and she still had the cheap manufactured one. Starting right now, A million thanks.
I absolutely loved this video. Being a beginner I found It so easy for me to understand. You explained things simply and thoroughly at the same time. Thank you so much!!!
I just purchased a new larger embroidery/sewing machine that came with a heavy, stiff cover. I was looking on RUclips for a video on how to make a custom cover and saw several options, but when I saw that you had a video, I said, "bingo" that's the one I'm going to use! I've been a fan of your sewing videos for awhile and of course, your FB page. I'm going to give this a try!
Thank you, thank you!! I watched other ppl making a cover and they made it look so difficult to sew with several different steps. Yours is very simple and your instructions were very clear.....now,I am going to make one.
I've watched a few tutorials for sewing machine covers but yours seems the easiest. I don't want to mess around doing linings just for a machine cover, seems a waste of fabric. Thank you for showing us beginners the easier way.
Thank you for this detailed tutorial! I’m excited to use your method to make covers for all of my machines, including my serger and embroidery machines.
loved making this cover. I did improvise and made a slit in the top for the handle so i could not just cover my machine but also carry it to quilt night at my local quilt shop. Thanks for all the great videos and ideas.
I love your tutorials they are very easy to follow, my daughter and I enjoyed watching the video on how you teach your son...so she is gettting motivated to go on this journey with me. Thanks...and Blessings to you and yours.
I've just made this and decorated it with bias binding that I've embroider with a decorative stitch. This is my second project ever - my first was the tissue holder! I'm enjoying myself so much. Your videos are brilliant... Thank you.
This is the BEST/EASIEST tutorial for a sewing machine cover. I made mine this weekend. The fusible fleece was a wonderful idea and gives the perfect amount of strength/body to cotton fabric! I wish I could upload a photo to show you all!!!!
Your video just popped up on my RUclips feed today. I have been watching several others in order to make a simple cover for my machine. I tried making one using fat quarters - what a mistake! Your video by far is the best one I've watched; your explanations are simple and to the point and easy to follow as you show how it's done. This is exactly the sort of cover I wanted to make. Glad I am a subscriber.
Thx Vanessa. How great . I just said the other day, I need to make a cover for my sewing machine. I could't believe it when I checked your videos. THANKS!!!!! :) Awesome.
I love the little fingers in the tutorial! Anyway, years after you posted this, I was looking for a variation of the machine covers I usually make. This was really nice. What I did differently is create a curved edge at the top part of the side panels, and this made the sewing a bit easier. Even though I used the fusible interfacing, I wanted to have my cover lined, so I made the exact same pieces as the outer part, but not interfaced. I sewed them right sides together leaving one of the side seams open. This way I made a bag, and then pulled the cover through the opening and then topstitched the hem. Very cute and easy to make. Thanks for the pattern!
Thank You!!!! I've had my brown, old plastic cover for many moons. I've even bought a pattern, but never made one. You've made it so easy (despite my cutting, measuring, and sewing problems!!!) Now I feel so much better because I don't have to look at the old cover that was much too small and UGLY!!! Oh, thank you, Vanessa!!!!! :-)
Fabulous. Thank you. I've just got my first ever sewing machine even though I'm in my 40's, so this is a straight forward tutorial I'm going to use to make a cover for it.
Just saying a big thank you for the short little tutorial. I didn't have fleece on hand, only medium weighted interfacing, just as well, as the fabric I am using is heavy and thick. I have 5 machines in total and this is by far the quickest way to sew them instead of the 3 piece ones as it gives more structure to the shape.
I have never made a cover for my machines, even tho I have been sewing for many years. I just have ugly plastic covers on them. But it is time to remedy that. I am making a new curtain, a new cover for my ironing board, and now new matching covers for my machines. Your video makes it look simple! I am going to do it. Thanks, and I love your videos. To echo other posters, if you had a tv show, I would definitely watch it!! I also love seeing you with Jenny Doan. Your ideas are so creative!
i'm a long time sewer and yet i found the other videos overly involved for such a basic project. yours is right on the mark, thank you for sharing it and will use your pattern to make my machine cover. and by the way, yes, love those little future sewer's hands!
What a great little project!! I recently bought a sewing machine and this is the first thing i made, I'm a newbie at this and love your vids. Thank you!!
I know 12 years pass but I finally figured out how to make my 3 dust cover for my machines thanks to you. Wonderful just what I needed thanks again 🤗☺😄
Wow. I was scratching my head this morning on how to make a cover for my sewing and serger machine- it was a gift from my awesome husband! Thank you for this tutorial. I am going to try this and surely post it on fb. Thanks!
BY FAR THIS IS THE BEST INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO! Thank you!! I also made my main body with 3 pieces & im very happy with it. Now making my Mom one, & excited for how much better hers will come out (since Im a new sewer)
Well... this is honestly only my second or third ever completed sewing project. I guess you could say I am a beginning beginner. I love your tutorials. They are fun, quick, and simple enough for even the most inexperienced sewer. Thank you so much for posting these videos. They are wonderful and easy to follow. please keep them coming.
Thanks! You can use this video to make a cover for your stand mixer just take the measurements of the mixer instead and apply the exact same method. Good luck!
Very easy to follow, I made this for my first sewing machine a couple of years ago, I have just bought an embroidery machine which is a totally different shape, so attempting to make another....I plan to add a pocket this time for accessories. I have learned a lot from many of your tutorials, but this is the first time I have commented. Thank you.
Ty for the tutorial on how to cover my machine. I have had my machine for about 4 years now but just recently using it and learning how to many projects.
Lol i got my sewing maching as a gift from my grown children. I didnt take it out of the box for about five years cuz i never learned how to use a sewing machine. I finally took the leap n now i cant stand to not have my sewing machine around me always😀
Ten years after its upload and I'm re-learning so much about machine sewing! Thank you and this is awesome because I wanted to make a simple sewing machine cover.
This was such a great tutorial! I watched yours first, then unfortunately tried to watch a few others. Yours is by far the best: quick and to the point; on-screen text to explain dimensions; your voiceover rather than talking while filming. Thanks so much for sharing, I will be making one of my own!
This was a great tutorial - I have been sewing for a long time BUT couldn't figure out how to make a pattern. You made this totally understandable and easy to follow. You are an excellent teacher. Also I had never used fusible fleece before and you have converted me.
First off, I would like to thank you for these tutorials. They're easy for beginners (like me) but still look great. Secondly, I was wondering if you could make a tutorial for the pocket suggestion that you made.
Made this today! I needed a cover, priced them online and they were super expensive, and not good quality. I ran to walmart and got a yard of fabric for $3.50 off their clearance rack...I didn't line mine because the fabric I got was fairly sturdy...and those corners gave me a fit, but I persevered and it turned out good...just don't look too close! LOL!!! Thanks for the GREAT video and how to instructions!
Love this! Thanks for the tutorial. You have the BEST turorials...I love them!!! I just made this sewing machine cover today and it turned out really cute!!! Thanks again and please keep posting more sewing tutorials.
Just made this as my first ever sewing project! Was lots of fun and you explained it so nicely. Thanks for your videos...need to look through the rest of your videos for my next fun project!
I love the little helper hands in the video :)
I searched RUclips and found this, exactly what I needed. Thank you Vanessa!!
Love the little hands helping!!! Thanks!
Commenting all the way from N Ireland! Thank you so much for your videos they are brilliant and so helpful for an amateur:)
Thank you for showing how easy this is!
i really liked this video, i am going to make this for all 6 of my sewing machines
This has video is the only one I’ve seen so far that helps me to understand how to sew a dust cover. Thank you for explaining and showing how you sew each corner of the dust cover. A lot of videos don’t go into detail about that.
Never sewed anything in my life, but after watching this video, I really want to sew something now.
Thanks for a great tutorial! I have a 4-needle embroidery machine that I want to cover and this will help me a lot. The idea of the fusible fleece is amazing! And, I enjoy your style of teaching. You get to the point, don't waste time and give valuable information. I appreciate it all! Bless you.

the best tutorial for a machine cover
Thanks Vanessa. we love your tuitorials. softly spoken makes it so much nicer to listen.
I hope all your family is well. love lily
I like the way you walk us through it, and explain it ; your instructions are easy to follow, you explain it plainly, and step by step. Thank you.
You are just the cutest thing. I discovered your channel this weekend. Great videos! Thanks for sharing!
Congrats on your new machine. I'm sure there are a few ways to do it. I would probably do it after the cover is done. measure on your machine where exactly the opening should be located on all sides. great video, thank you!! P.S. - I loved the little hands trying to help you in the beginning, too cute.
Thank you!! never made a box shape for anything but a dog rescue group asked me to make crate covers and this is a great start.
Great tutorial. As a new sewer I really need all the steps broken down. I appreciated how you included your calculations so that I could modify for my sewing machine's dimensions.
I just bought a new brother sewing machine to take to quilting class. I need to make a tote bag for the machine. these videos are great can wait to start the tote bag tomorrow

Love how you showed us how to turn & fold the fabric in order to clip the sides to the main piece.
Thanks for that tutorial. It was very helpful and now I can make my very first sewing machine cover.
I was looking for a simple tutorial for making a sewing machine cover, I am still very new to using a machine, yours was the easiest to follow and i cant wait to have a go.

Thank you immensely. I have about 7 machines to cover (will use this method for my coverhem and sergers as well).
