It took me waaay longer than an hour lol but I ended up with a pretty good-looking mat for my sewing machine. I had been about to buy one but decided to see what would happen if I made it myself. I'm so pleased with myself. I still need to work on straightening out my stitching and cutting more accurately, but now I have gotten some experience quilting and I really enjoyed it. Thank you for this tutorial. Later this week, I'll be making a thread catcher.
I have made three of these, but I changed the size on two of them to fit my sewing machines. I love them so much! I also made the thread catches and pin cushions. I love your tutorials and patterns so much!❤️ Thank you for sharing your talent with us. You are a wonderful teacher. My next projects will be your Sew With Me series…both of them 😍 Blessings to you from Minnesota.
Very nice tutorial. Good for beginner quilters. Easy way to learn those tricky techniques. For the larger pocket on the left, suggest it be the size of a ziplock bag. Put the bag in the pocket and use it for sips and scraps. When it’s full, toss and replace.
Your videos are so well done, you move along quickly and choose fabric prints that are so complimentary. Love the little labels. A few years ago I bought a set and then glued them to some flower stick pins. They, of course, stay with the fabric they were meant to be with. I’ll be making this project soon. Thanks Erica.
I made this lovely mat this evening. Super easy to make, I’m really pleased with it. I’ve never done binding before, (or mitred corners!) and had to improvise by sewing chunks of fabric together to make one, long piece! I love how it came out, corners too, despite a few hiccups along the way. Thank you 😊
I am so thankful for this pattern and your video...I made this yesterday for my mom for Mothers day. My last swap I made the pin cushion and scrap catcher. I have learned and feel I can try so many new things. Thank you!!!!! It also was my first attempt at binding so far from perfect but it is done.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I am new to sewing and I’ve been so intimidated by all the binding tutorials that I’ve seen on the internet, but this is the easiest I’ve seen by far! I actually already have a sewing machine mat started, but haven’t been able to figure out binding until I watched this video. Now I can finish my project without a huge headache! Thanks so much for sharing this!
Hello, I am not a Big sewer or quilter 😋 but was looking to sew a mat for when I do some sewing 😋 project bags or cushions etc 😋 I found this Sewing Tutorial very easy to follow 😁💕 & got some great little tips with your pocket detailing 😁💜 & the easy bias binding without the bias tape maker 😁💕 thank you 😁💜 Erica x
I just wanted to say thank you so much for the wonderful tutorial. I have just started patchwork and quilting and am beginning with small projects. Your sewing machine mat is just lovely and your step by step instructions helped so much. It was so good to pause, rewind, watch again. I now have a gorgeous mat for my brand new sewing machine. Looking forward to watching other videos and trying something else. Thanks again.
Eric, I truly appreciate and LOVE your tutorials. I made your pin cushion and scrap bag for a swap project. Unfortunately I didn’t take a picture of it but your instructions were spot on. This tutorial was great also and now I’m planning to make this and the scrap bag for a Christmas gift for my DIL! Thank you for taking the time to do these tutorials!
This was my first quilting project. I loved the easy steps. Nothing is straight and I need a lot of practice but I am very happy with it! Thank you. Now I need the thread catcher, off to quilt more!
Erica, your tutorial was amazing and very easy to follow. I loved the simplicity of the binding tape and how easy it was to sew in. My mat came out great-I’m making your thread catcher for my sewing machine next. Keep the inspiration coming!
Thank you very much for sharing your time and knowledge, you are very talented quilters, I really enjoyed, i have never make one like that before but I am remodeling my sewing room and this colourful machine cover will look great for decoration and cover at the same time. Blessings
Wow, I just love your videos....beautiful and very easy....I love how you explain everything...you are a very good teacher. Thank you for such fun and creative goodies. I will definitely make this and more from your other videos.
A lovely mat! I made a different one, but this is pretty! I keep one pocket large for throwing all kinds of small tools in, rubber, sharpener, small rulers etc!! However, I would love to make this patchwork panel with the extra little pocket. I do love your fabric choices xx
I also got the 404 when trying to download the pattern. I love your tutorials!! There isn’t a lot of fluff at the beginning, you just jump right in and cover the topic!!! That is awesome. I can’t wait to make this mat so get that pattern issue worked out soon!! 😍
Perfect timing as usual, Erica, was looking for some ideas today to make a mat for my machine after spending the week hunting for tools. Thank you so much, this is perfect. Love your nails ;)
i was thinking about something like this the other day, thanks, now i don't have to design something...how many watched to see if Erica noticed the bird was upside down, good catch Erica, i would probably have not noticed and have to rip out
Hi Erica 🙋🏻♀️ I have such a looooong growing list of projects I want to make and this is DEFINITELY one I want to make. I just started sewing like 4ish months ago and I am forever misplacing my supplies... hahaha this will come in sooooooo handy! I think I will attempt this after Mothers Day weekend 👍🏻 Thank you so much 🤗 Great tutorial (as always) ❤️
Wow this looks amazing and your video is great - I am a beginner and I can't wait to get supplies tomorrow so I can try making this (Will take me much longer than an hour lol) - Thanks for a great tutorial Erica :-)
LOVE your tutorials!! I'll be making this to go with my lil scrap bin/ pin cushion!!! Do you have any suggestions on type of fabric if I wanted to do something like this for a childs/pre teen arts and crafts table? Crayons for the youngest is where I'm stumped. And my pre teen does a lot of crafts with polymer clay.
I LOVE this!!!! I also love the way you binded it, no fuss no muss! I might actually be able to do that! LOL And I really love that fabric, do u know if it's all still available? Awesome project as usual!!
Hi, I used Vintage Picnic from Bonnie and Camille. It's out of print, but they put out new lines each year and have one very similar out now called Little Snippets. bit.ly/2B6rzS8
