🎵 Intro/Outro: Imaginary - Broken Elegance
This guy freaking gets it. I'm glad someone knows where to take Star wars
This interview and its promotion makes me think he is in the driver's seat with Favreau now as well.
@@andysmallwood3535 officially it´s still Kennedy, but it´s very clear she had little to no envolvement in this show and that Filoni and Favreau are the future of Star Wars
@@D3F4ULT_07 its safe to say KK is out the door and Jon and Dave are at the helm now.
That's right! And bring Kyle Katarn back! Only he can erase that horrible Sequels trilogy! XD
Filoni knows more about Jedi, Mandalorian, and Sith lore than anybody in a big seat at Disney. We are very, very fortunate to have him influencing like this. He has incredible storytelling that is true to the lore, and gives all generations something that they want.
It really is amazing for both old and new fans.
Filoni: "You know, when you have Luke, you get R2."
Favreau: "R2?" *big smile on face*
Filoni, the walking Wookiepedia.

Legit I cried when I saw the green lightsaber. Sorry to those that worked on the last jedi but that was not my Luke. This version was.
They’re actually the same character believe it or not so they’re both everyone’s Luke
@@AustiB10 nope nope nope I refuse
@@rocsoriano2994 I mean you can’t really refuse. They’re both Luke Skywalker. That’s not up to you.
@@AustiB10 Oh but I can. I can choose to decide that the new Star wars films are nothing but really expensive fanfiction. And that the Luke Skywalker and the mandalorian was truer to the Luke Skywalker I knew as a kid growing up. George Lucas made Star wars not Disney. Ty.
No need to apologize. We all agree
Dave created so much joy in that scene that the 3 sequels couldn't even come close to. I like the idea that the sequels are an alternate reality. Let's forget them and continue Luke's journey from here?
Or just make Grogu the new Jedi protagonist of any future films - I would be so keen to see a story from a non-human Jedi's perspective (and agreed, no mention of the trash trilogy in future films).
There was a sequel? Ray who?
@@Ltsuek Haha! These were not the sequels we were looking for!
Lol jokes aside though cannot wait for a conclusion to episode 6, RotJ
Jump to light speed from ROTJ to Mando. The best move ever!
Filoni and Favreau are Stars Wars gold.
100% THIS
This man should've had the sequels
With favereu too. Absolutely.
I like JJs work but he took so little responsibility carrying that story forward.
@@hotfroganimations JJ's a lazy hack.
Dave loves Rian Johnson's vision of the last Jedi
@@Beer_Dad1975 I don't know if I'd go that far, 7 and 9 are far from lazily made movies, but lazily written? Perhaps.
Dave loves the Sequels
When I first saw the scene, I let out a big exhale and with tears in my eyes said to myself "finally". Not only did we get to see the real Luke Skywalker after 37 years, but I finally had the feeling that people making a star wars product actually cared about what they were making and who they were making it for. Thank you Jon and Dave, I've waited for that moment for the longest time.
Tlj and ros doesn't count cause they're fan fiction so yeah this is the first time
Agreed!
Well said
Deffo i love how they got him back to how his character role its amazing
Dave Filoni and John Favreau are a Legend for bringing back the Luke Skywalker we loved in the Orginal Trilogy into the big screen for the Mandalorian Season 2 finale just hope to see a Luke Skywalker series in the Future May The Force be with you always
Bro how tf you have a mando emojji😂😂😂😂😂
I hope they retcon the sequel trilogy and canon books and comics and games and bring back legends/EU books, comics, and games and of course add mandalorian, clone wars, and rebels into the EU canon and hope they would make a big star wars show about the original trilogy characters story and being adapted from the legends EU books all the way from the thrawn trilogy- new Jedi order and being adapted into this TV show!!
And of course new story's from new books, new comics, new game, new films of these new characters fit in the EU timeline and even an animated series of new characters.
It would be cool if they do a new character about the new Jedi order that Luke made in the EU timeline and how this new character is experiencing the New Jedi Order, and of course the Vong war. Its just so many possibilities to do a story in a galaxy far far away.
The phrase “the big screen” references movies/movie theaters. So The Mandalorian never made it to “the big screen.” Since it’s a TV show, the actual term is called “the small screen.” Just FYI
Jon and Dave are single handedly saving this franchise
Love hearing Dave talk about him and John’s love for Star Wars. They GET IT. As someone that saw the originals in the theatre, it gives me so much hope for the future.
@woffBass.... i have no hope as long of disney own SW ....2 mins of screen time doesn't make up for 5 bad movies .....
1 bad movie
There's that meme floating around the internet that the plot of Mandalorian is just Dave and Jon playing with Star Wars toys. You know what? I'm ok with that.
I forgot what it's like to hear a fan of the IP discuss the process. What a delightful change.
Right, it’s nice to hear it from a real passionate creative, a visionary. The career chasing, brain-clogged, flat shallow doofuses that did the now decannonized episode’s 7-9 don’t have a thing on them.
Such a relief and a blessing to have Dave and John running the show, they are taking star wars in the direction ever fan has craved for decades!! Disney, dont mess this up, theyre your biggest asset in the star wars world!
I love the amount of thought that goes into every detail. I'm not sure I would've thought of Luke's distinct fighting style. Genius!
We really need some more of this flavour! WE NEED MORE LUKE AGAIN!!
SW VETERAN FAN SINCE 1981.
AUTHOR ON 4 BOOK UPON STAR WARS IN EUROPE.
I love how he can explain the connection between idea, script, actor, cgi, set design, and fans. This is why he and Favreau succeed while others fail.
Now all they need to do is a do over. Put the last 3 Star Wars movies in an alternate universe that changed when Ashoka was pulled into the future.
THIS THIS THIS
Nah, just throw them in the trash, it's easier
That part about saber skill and Ahsoka... Dave Filoni's attention to detail is fantastic
Listening to Filoni talk about training and how important the training is for saber combat...and then we have Rey who takes on one of the most elite fighting forces in the galaxy (Snoke's guards) less than a week after picking up a lightsaber for the first time.
I hate listening to people discuss the details of the now decannonized 7-9 - I actually couldn’t sit through them, especially the later ones. They’re the only Star Wars ever I couldn’t actually finish because it lacked all power of pulling me in, among other qualities it had…
@@MackNcD I would rather watch the cristhmas special 100 times than to watch the "sequel" even once.
That was the best thing of 2020.
Thank you Dave and John.... Many of these comments are spot on. You saved my beloved Star Wars in many ways. I got emotional watching this.
Crazy how the final moments of an episode did more for Mark than the entire sequel trilogy put together
Thank you Dave for everything
Give us unlimited star wars
seeing dave and jon together just makes me happy
Only Luke could have been the one and I'm sooooo glad they understood that. The episode was the greatest!
I love this bloke. You know how passionately he feels about Star Wars.
This scene was amazing!
What a difference hearing Dave talk SW compared to KK and her minions. You can hear the love and respect for the universe and mythology in every breath.
You didn't let us down with that whole sequence. Thank you Dave!
Once you watched Clone Wars you know already how Dave is talented and how experienced he is with the lore of SW.
Dave and john are godsends to nerds everywhere
Yeah but there were strong female characters in The Mandalorian - that’s why you SW fans were supposed to not like 7-9, no?
At 2:22 , Watching Dave Filoni correcting the actor's hand during the force push gave me strong feelings. He knows both the characters and the lore inside out.
Also, when he stated Ahsoka having vastly more training than Luke, I found it brilliant because I never thought of that myself. In my mind, Ahsoka is the cute Padawan while Luke is the ultimate Jedi Knight.
May the force be with you Dave Floni and John Favreau. And may you be with the Force too, always.
Luke is still the ultimate Jedi Knight. Has he had as much training? No, but he's still a lot more powerful with the force.
This moment took me back to a child first seeing star wars... Tears and cheers !
And this is the fundamental and fantastic difference between Dave and John’s approach/mission versus what we’ve been getting for years - these guys set their intentions on the feeling they want to deliver, whereas everyone else has chosen to focus on the visuals.
Um, is it just me or is Filoni sounding and looking more like Lucas every day?
this is what respecting star wars looks like
I had a hard time watching this scene
Because I was in so much tears at the joy of seeing the actual Luke Skywalker again.
I feel Star Wars is now back in safe hands.
It was nice to see luke again
Don't really care what anyone says luke is the best jedi ever not only did he redeem his father without violence as obi wan and yoda suggested but he's honestly more than that he's film's greatest hero the embodiment of selflessness
I’d love to get his take on Kennedy keeping her job and Mando being done after 3 seasons. I wish Lucas had never sold to Disney.
One of the single best moments in cinema for me in the past ten years. It blew me away.
THe younger guy playing Luke nailed everything also. Everything about this moment was perfect. Spent the whole time going "Is that ...? Nooo, it can't be, they wouldn't..... but is it.....OMG IT IS!!!"
Both Dave AND John "GET IT" Because they ARE "SUPER FANS" Like WE ALL ARE!!! Only THEY GET to PLAY IN the STAR WARS UNIVERSE!!!
LUCKY DUCKS!!! :D
Disney is special and magical. Finally Dave and John are bringing that magic back to The Star Wars Universe that carries on the honour/strength and not failures of iconic characters from the originals.
If Luke's there you get R-2.....
:: long pause of remembering lucas star wars ::
Ohhhh yeah
Thank you Thank you...Me and my Wife cried....Amazing job...
Thank goodness Dave Filoni is involved in this next phase of Star Wars. He is connected to Lucas, he wrote a lot of Clone Wars with Lucas... heck he wrote the Avatar series which was amazing and echoed the hero journey of the original Star Wars... Thank you Dave Filoni!!!
This's amazing. Can't wait for season 3!
He's right. I couldn't believe it. I kept telling myself it was going to be Ezra Bridger. I even thought, "Oh, Ezra got a new lightsaber."
Dave gets it! I cried when i saw Luke at the height of his power.
Yeah but there were strong female leads in the Mandalorian - that’s why you SW fans were supposed to not like the sequels they said.
XD lolol
He's absolutely right. I didn't believe.
I kept thinking "Kathleen would never allow this"
Floods of tears when the hood came off.
“…and then Darthleen Kennedy came in and destroyed it all!”, needed to be added as an epilogue to the video…
Filoni is the MAN... respect for his fundamental understanding of SW!
I was over joyed when Luke showed up!
A big thank you to the film crew, etc for doing this from a long distance star wars fan from NZ.the force will be with you always.
I love you Dave Filoni!! You and Jon are doing amazing work .... bringing tears of joy to this mid 40's "kid" who grew up in the 80's on Star Wars!
Release the Plo Koon cut !
Preach. I just want him to be alive so I can see him and Ahsoka reunite
The instant I saw Red 5 with R2 D2 I was not fooled. I began to ball like a baby and as the tension built my face was that of a child. I screamed IT'S LUKE right as the X-wing fly by. I was still caught up in looking at any evidence as the scene unfolded but I knew it was Luke from the jump. I knew because no other hero would have made me feel that way. That was special and I will always remember the moment Dave and Jon made me feel like a young boy all over again. Nothing in my adult life has ever made me feel like that from watching TV. I am more thankful for this 4 minutes of a streaming TV show than any other programing i have ever ingested.
I enjoyed the return of Luke Skywalker. But what I enjoyed the most was watching reaction videos of it here on youtube. Just like he describes. watching the inner child in multiple generations come out. Middle aged men crying as if they found a long lost friend. As for myself. I didn't think Disney would be cool enough to bring back Luke. It crossed my mind when the x-wing appeared, but I thought, "no". Hint after hint, but I didn't believe it until I saw the green light saber, and then my jaw hit the floor.
Certainly a better feeling than giving up and running away.
Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau just get it. As fans themselves, they know how to do it right.
Fan have waited this version of Luke since the announcement of episode 7 !!!!!
I hope we see Luke again in other shows, even if it’s just a cameo, for a short episode, or just name dropped. I’ve seen comics of Ashoka and Luke meeting, it would bring fans to tears empathizing with Ashoka upon learning her master found his way back to the light in film. It would have a similar bittersweet sympathy as when we saw the broken man behind the iconic mask in Return of the Jedi.
star wars has to be uplifting. it's essential to the brand.
not strange artsy thing that breaks expectations.
Yeah but it’s important that we empower woman in an entirely fiction, unreal world of the imagination - otherwise an imaginary enemy wins.
"Strange artxy thing" is way too generous a term for the three sequels. Complete and utter crap is more appropriate.
@@MackNcD Wait, what are you talking about?
Dave, Jon and the rest of the team on Mando and TBBF totally knocked it not just out of the park, but literally to "A galaxy far, far away"..!! They are doing more justice to these characters than any movie has ever even attempted to do.
Great... now I need to restock my tissue box watching this guy talk about everything that went into this moment. It felt ever so special as they wanted it to be. In a way... that's not just the new movies but also the prequels that could never really match this feeling with the fans.
Give these two guys the next trilogy!
Thank you Sir!!!! Thank you & Thank you again !
I hope we get to see Luke and Ashoka have an intense sparring session at some point. Everyone would lose their minds.
You hear Kathleen Kennedy, who is clueless about Star Wars and then you hear Filoni... I'm just glad that someone gets what Star Wars is all about
Thank you so much Jon and Dave
I cried first time..... knew what was coming, and cried the second time lol
Thank you, Mr. Filoni and Favreau :)
In all fairness I was questioning if it was possible when I saw a lone x-wing, but as soon as I saw the black glove with green saber I had no doubt in my mind that it was Luke right there and then.
Find it hard to believe that there were people unsure as to who it was until the face reveal confirmed it. But Dave is saying that is the case then I suppose I have to believe him ^^
I have loved how much extended universe content (Canon and Legends) Filoni and Favreau have included into Mandalorian. So as much as I loved seeing Luke in this scene I was really hoping it was going to be the Raven's Claw flying by the window and Kyle Katarn collecting Grogu after the introduction of Dark Troopers. But alas it wasn't to be and I fear he will never appear in Disney Canon despite being the biggest character in the Lucas Arts games for so many years :(
Just give John and Dave control of Star Wars stuff from now on Disney.
Please, give all the upcoming Star Wars projects to Dave, John and their team!!
He just gets it all. Because he’s one of us.
I don't like everything that John and Dave have done with the mandalorian and the Bad batch but they still have done a WAY better job then the fliping rest of Lucasart when it comes to carying on the torch.
IF ONLY these guys had been at the helm of the sequel trilogy. Just imagine.
At 5:06 you can see R2 is green. This is probably because the shot they were filming had a bluescreen, so the blue would get lost, like it did in the trench run. It's a minor thing but still very intriguing.
Thanks Dave Filoni! Great work
The glove is what got me.
Dave and John...our only hope left.
I knew that it was Luke as soon as I saw the X-Wing. Dave Filoni is awesome!!
Dave Filoni🙏🏾 Thank you for..., everything Star Wars. ✌🏾
Just the fact the managed the keep this as a secret is huge.
I imagine if we will see an adult Omega in a new live action spin off
Yess. I want it
Too soon, I hope they finished omega and bad batch story firms before bring them to live action (Same with Kal from fallen order)
May the respect be with you!
It's so great to hear how much he cares about the material.
Disney take notes. This guy freaking gets it !
It was outstanding!
baby Yoda's hand on that screen gets me every time. :)
This guy understands the assignment because he’s a fan of Star Wars who gets it that’s why it works
Great job Dave!
I knew it would be Luke. First off the time frame makes sense, second is the very specific lone ship he arrived in. Third is his cloak; he's not wearing a robe like every other Jedi we've seen. Fourth is his gloved hand. Fifth is that his fighting style was reminiscent of Luke's. Lastly would be his green lightsaber. Post RotJ that really narrows down who it could be :p
None the less seeing Luke be the Jedi Master he was always meant to be was like being vindicated after however many years of shite sequels.
I watched this scene like 20x after it came out. Loved it!
These are the kinds of people you NEED to have working on a deep fantasy IP. For the sequel trilogy Kennedy hired some people who'd rented the movies on VHS a couple of times and asked a cab driver for his memories en route to the studio.
Best scene in ALL of Star Wars. I knew who it was as soon as the lone x-wing was shown and just like Dave said that little kid that grew up watching these films was sitting right next to my daughter.
