    • @spooky3394
      @spooky3394 3 года назад +97

      I think you're right about Luke- he redeemed the failure of Obi-Wan and Anakin. But I think Obi-Wan realized he could not be the one to raise Luke. He was not father material- he was a Jedi. He could not love a child like a father must, hence the fall of Anakin. The best thing that he could do for Luke is to go away, to let him have a family, to watch from afar as he did- only revealing his true self when the time was right to guide Luke in the way of the Jedi.

    • @rubyscott6685

      @@spooky3394 I believe that you hit the nail directly on the head. It is theme that reappears in the new series as well. Grogu redeems Din Djarin by the end of season 2 episode 8. Din risks everything to save his child and breaks his clans rules by showing his face and feeling (crying) unashamedly in front of the world.
      I think Luke will return Grugu to Din after he has taught him to master his abilities.

Even if we knew how it was going to end, the emotional impact of this scene will always tie the entire arc together. George is a genius.

      He was humble enough to realize this was and, hopefully, is George’s story. That’s what KK and RJ didn’t care about-just because you can change the vision doesn’t mean you should if it doesn’t fit or follow the lead of the preceding episodes. There was a complete disconnect with the previous movies after TFA-why did Luke go off the deep end when he was the hopeful one who refused to turn to the dark side? He risked everything to bring Anakin back from the sith, yet he becomes a hermit when Ben falls? Wouldn’t Luke have fought tooth and nail to turn him back? Nothing flows from the original movies to the last two installments, and the change in some of the lead characters ie, Luke especially was too jarring. If Luke knew that all the previous Jedi live on in the latest generation and could help in the fight against the Sith then why didn’t he seek their help? We need these new visionaries to take charge of George Lucas’ story, not take a sledgehammer to it.

    You know what I just realized? Sidious wanted Luke to strike him down, right? He wanted him to kill him so he would taste the darkness, and if you recall, Luke actually tries to. The only reason he didn't was because Vader deflects it.
    I always saw that scene as "Oh, Vader's defending the Emperor, because he's so far down the dark path." But if Sidious wanted to die by Luke's hand, wouldn't Vader defending him basically be counterproductive to Sidious? I'd go as far as to say the one reason Luke doesn't turn to the dark side is because Vader managed to block him from killing Sidious, and though Luke gets close to killing Vader, he doesn't because Vader's his father.
    Basically, what I'm trying to say is, I think despite all Vader's talk about wanting to rule the Galaxy and taking down the Emperor with Luke, in that moment, he stops Luke from giving into the darkness. He spares his son of the pain he's suffered all these years as Darth Vader, and shows that the conflict of light and dark is far more intrusive than it even seemed by the end of the fight.
    *_{[TL;DR]},_* Sidious wanted Luke to strike him down, but Vader blocks Luke from doing so. I think this was the Anakin in him trying to spare his son from the Dark Side.

    • @parkstar7113
      @parkstar7113 4 года назад +143

      That's an interesting point of view, and maybe Vader's intention was to spare Luke from going dark. But I don't think for a minute Sidious wanted to actually be struck down by Luke. He wanted to taunt Luke relentlessly to push him towards the dark knowing full well Vader would deflect any blow coming his way. Because in the end Sidious wanted to live and rule only using his apprentices as pawns.

    • @mcthrull7417

      Yeah because every master gets killed by their apprentice and sidious wants to stay in power so I think he wanted look to attack him tcause he knows vader will block it. Then, luke will attack vader until one suceeds. Sidious will then kill the weakened survivor.

    Obi Wan’s mistake is that he was so worried about being a good teacher for the chosen one and making him the perfect Jedi, That he didn’t teach in what he believed. Clone wars was great in showing that Obi Wan was not the perfect Jedi he seemed to be. He had attachments to a woman and he never really agreed with the council but went along with them anyway. His stance in the council was similar to how he taught Anakin. Always teaching Anakin lessons that did not come from himself because he didn’t truly trust in his own readiness and teachings. His lessons always seemed like he was just telling Anakin what not to just because the Jedi code says so. Obi wan was not ready for any of this so he adopted this strict text book style of teaching. That is why Anakin always protested obi wan and obi wan would In turn add to Anakin’s frustration by not explaining a truly what the lesson meant because he himself didn’t know what the point of most of the Jedi teachings was. Had he used his own beliefs and morals rather than the Jedi’s to teach Anakin, obi wan would have been much better of a mentor. Obi wan was not the most obvious example of what was wrong with the order like Mace Windu was. Instead he was an example of the Jedi who followed the flawed Jedi code without questioning it. Which was a bigger problem and one which made it easy for Sidious to manipulate the whole clone wars.

      @Matias Martinez that's a bit of a stretch. the fact that they misinterpreted the prophecy wasnt out of arrogance but out of a narrow and strict code of being that prevented them to truly grasp the nature of the prophecy. Obi wanted Anakin to become a great Jedi without realizing he was supposed to become something greater, the perfect being, the one who lives in balance (Light/Dark - Jedi/Sith). Jedi could never become Anakin because they were afraid of the Dark, they wouldnt go as far as tap into that territory, and so they never truly understood goodness, cause they didnt want to deal with true evil. Obi cared very much about anakin, he loved him like a Jedi would love somebody, he respected him but it's not his fault he was raised a Jedi his whole life and Jedi arent arrogant, they just become clueless to the very essence of balance (mostly because of the thousands of years of peace), which is Light and Dark, not just Light.

      I would argue that it ends on the most uplifting note that it could have, given the circumstances.
      Because, yeah, it's dark and depressing. It's supposed to line up with the end of ROTS, so obviously it was going to end on the beginning of the darkest hour in the Galaxy's history.
      But the important thing is that it ends on Vader, sad broken husk of our former hero who's now nothing but an emotionless enforcer of the darkside, being reminded of his past through picking up the lightsaber that he made for his beloved apprentice. And then he looks to the sky and even tho he doesn't know what she is, he's being watched by Morai, a living avatar of the Lightside of the Force and in that moment we see his eyes and we know that no matter how obscured and tinted by darkness he is, Anakin is still in there. He's just waiting for that push to be broken free.

Obi was the wrong character to train aniken. jin was the only jedi that still had real connection with the force and jin was the only one that understood aniken. Without jin aniken should never been trained as the risk of turning dark was too great and the council knew it. Obi is almost the opposite of aniken with very low risk of turning dark, being jedi for obi is almost too easy where others had to struggle with overcoming there emotions like jin or windu. Thats why obi never really understood aniken cos he was riddled with inner conflict that obi has never really had to deal with and therefor didnt know how to help aniken deal with it in the way he needed, you could even say obi style of guidence actually inadvertently pushed him to seek help elsewhere aka dark side.

    Remember in the clone wars movie when Anakin said to Ahsoka she wouldn't make it as Obi Wans padawan but she might as his, this shows how Obi Wan was so by the book, but Anakin was reckless and needed someone more like Qui-gon, it was Anakin passing this on to Ahsoka which made her leave the order as she knew it was corrupt as she says in season 7 before leaving for mandalore. Thats why I think Ahsoka was the reason Anakin turned, because her decision made him realise that the coucil was corrupted and thats why he had doubts and looked for his own way to save Padme. I don’t know about you but I doubt that the guy that loves his friends that much would fall to dogma, but rather would have gone the Qui-gon route and accepted that Jedi should be allowed to love, hell I can’t believe they didn’t allow Luke to have children like in Legends, but Kathleen said they didn’t have any “source material” so there’s that...

    I don't think the idea is that Kenobi never truly cared for Anakin, he loved the hell out of him. The problem was they were more like brothers rather than Kenobi being a master. Qui-Gon was more of a father figure

      Exactly this, I detail how they viewed Ashoka's relationships. Iirc, they like Plo as her father figure; Yoda to a grandfather, and Anakin and Obi Wan as her older brothers.
      I think the same could be said of Anakin's own relationships. Qui Gon was going to be the father he never had; whereas Obi Wan, an older brother. As with any older brother, you're going to have petty squabbles but you'll always have for love them, even it's buried deep down.

    “It matters which side we choose. Even if there will never be more light than darkness. Even if there can be no more joy in the galaxy than there is pain. For every action we undertake, for every word we speak, for every life we touch-it matters. I don’t turn toward the light because it means someday I’ll ‘win’ some sort of cosmic game. I turn toward it because it is the light.” Qui-Gon Jin.
    That's a quote from the Master and Apprentice book by Claudia Gray and I just love it, I think it's one of the most meaningful statements from all of Star Wars and it really captures not just Qui-Gon's character and beliefs but also the whole point of this ancient battle between good and evil or light and dark, I think it speaks to us, to our own individual selves when we are faced with the worst in us.
    Hope Dave Filoni leads Star Wars to what it once was and what it should be from now on.

      He was a true stoic, at peace within as without by making peace for others. May the force be with you.

      Claudia Gray is to the new-canon novels what Filoni is to Star Wars as a whole. She is THE Luceno (although no one can replace his legacy) of this Star Wars novel generation.

      I love this, this reminds of a C.S Lewis quote.

      At this point, why not? He was working with George for a few years, he's pretty dedicated to Star Wars lore and he's proven again and again that he's capable of creating great star wars content.

    So damn good. I can't thank Dave enough for making the prequels (what I love and grew up with) even more enjoyable.

    Even at the end of it all after obi wan cuts anakin down he says "I loved you like a brother". Not a father.
