    Trying to start, jumping on the Foilboard and just glide as long as possible before adding the Pump is also a good learning step to maintain your balance and proper foot placement/weight distribution. Enjoy your tutorials

    I learned on a Indiana 1100P. Great low speed start ability for a reasonable price.
    For the technique: I learned the hard way. the key to recovering from a touchdown is to keep fxxxx pumping and waving your arms like a madman. 😂 The board WILL rise with commitment.
    Keep going and going. The hard work will pay off !

    Great video!
    I recently came to the exact same conclusion.
    I am now using FoilDrive to get me up and Foil and then I pop up above the motor to practice pumping.
    I’m using the good old Slingshot infinity-99 but I’m about to invest in Sabfoil. Let’s see if the WL1150 is big enough to carry my 82kg plus wetsuit so that I can get to know it for light downwinding way down the line when my skills are sufficient!

    Great vid. Had my first session today. On my own because I want to bust this out on my mates at some random point in the future. Based on my progress today this might be about 5 years from now. I dinged my board, bashed my elbow and gathered multiple grazes from various impacts. We are all wing foilers and windsurfers so it would be cool to get the drop on them in this new discipline.
    Take off is ok but recovery is terrible. Haven't even got to the pump stage. Usually just nose down straight into the water. I appreciate that this might be a long road.
    I was using all Armstrong gear. A 38 litre prone board, 85cm mast, 1550 front foil and 195 rear.

    • @davewestfoils
      @davewestfoils  2 года назад +1

    Great video, I learnt Dockstart foiling from scratch off various ladder setups (settled on the #dockstar ladder in the end). It took ages but so worth it! I use a slight variation of your mates technique and have a 90% success rate. Keep doing the videos I learn a lot from them and as your video rightly points out my pump game is not the best…yet. I’m on a Naish 5ft with Axis 1150 and 450 progressive.

    Hello, I think this video is suitable for athletes who have already a good level at surfoiling. For more "common" people, I would advise to avoid the recovery step by setting a reproducible launch that gives enough initial speed: run along a low dock and climb (not jump) on the board with still both hands on board, or using a holder (choice will mainly depend on what dock you have in your zone: low, stable and room for the wing under the dock: run. High or no room for the wing under: holder).

    Hey Dave, where is this dock? Im coming to Qld soon and need a spot but I have no idea where. We were using GoFoil GT1250 and NL160 with 14” tails and were failing terribly. So we switched up to a GT2200 with a 17” tail and its got so much glide you could almost dock start from ankle deep flat water. Still havent got to pumping stage 3 on it after 25 attempts yesterday but were getting close for a couple of old newbs
