Another awesome video Colin! Your attention to detail and clear explanations make this process look way easier than I thought. I really appreciate how you walked us through each step and shared your knowledge about the components. It's great to see such meticulous work and your 'hardware hacker' skills in action. Thanks for the helpful links and resources too! Can't wait to see what project you tackle next. Keep up the amazing work!

Thank you so much. The video is so detailed and well shot.
Regarding the replacement cells, I thought that if you put LiIon Cells in series they need to be protected cells? Or is the charging circuit measuring the voltages of all 4 cells ?

Great comment. The answer is it depends. These days cells are made really really consistently and most manufacturers do not do individual cell measurement in their OEM battery packs. Instead they deploy a heat sensor or two, and depend on that to detect any anomalies. In this case, the Roomba board is able to see the voltage of each cell (note the folded nickel strips in-between cells 1-2 and 3-4 as well as main contacts on 1 and 4).
I used brand new high quality cells in series here. They may drift in balance very slightly over time, but it's standard practice to use modern unprotected cells in series even with only thermistor monitoring.

Tried doing this, used the same batteries as you. Used solder to weld them in place. Now im getting Error 7. Did yours work right away?? My roomba is model 805

@@Immigrantlovesamerica hmmm. Yes it worked right away. Did you check the voltage of individual cells to ensure they are balanced? Did you check overall pack voltage to ensure the series V is the sum of the cell V’s? Are the center taps on the circuit board soldered in well? I can’t think of anything else to try.
