    You list the Roborock S& MaxV Ultra as top machine. After 5 month I can confirm that, when it's working as it should, it's a good machine. We paid $1600, incl. extra pads, vac bags etc. After 3 month its flaws began to show: very frequent 'water filter cleaning' became frequent in spite of us keeping a super clean household, no pets, no children, no street shoes. The second biggest problem is the 'bleeding' of the various room or zone colors into other rooms, resulting in RR S7 MaxV Ultra to frantically buzzing to other rooms to 'clean' areas or rooms it's not meant to go; and problem is pervasive with our machine. we have, at least, 9 areas where room colors seep from 1 room into another, or even outside our house walls(!) prompting the RR's frenetic attempts to 'roll there and clean'. Another big problem is its software, suddenly and on its own, changes the assigned docking station to another area in the house, resulting in utter confusion for the RR to find any room and perform any requested service, and only by tricking it and the software, can be, with much patience, reversed. This brings me to the # 1 problem with Roborock I experienced: The Roborock's Customer assistance and help line. Their simple response to the color bleeding or involuntary docking station removal is: "You have to redo your whole house mapping". This, for us, is a problem as we have a 2200 sq.ft. house and various objects get removed when cleaning. Cleaning 1 room at the time, doing this is OK; but not with 10 rooms plus various hallways. All that aside, the question occurs: How come the machine suddenly changes its mapped docking station, but the engineers who developed the software don't know how to undo that . . where does one turn to, to correct those flaws??

      Same problem with my Roborock s5, it tries to get into other rooms it’s not supposed it and takes double the time. Also randomly changes docking area and I have to constantly clear history and restart, but otherwise it’s a great robot vacuum, I had it for two years and only physically vacuumed a few times.

      Delete all of your favorites and recreate them. I am assuming your app works like that also.

    My first one was the Roomba i7 and it worked fine, until it stopped charging properly. Out of frustration I got a new one, the Roborock Q5+. It is SO much better! Mapping was so fast, and accurate. It took my iRobot like 2+ hours to map my 2000sf house. Took the RoboRock like 20 minutes. And when the Roborock vacuums, it is also so much faster and efficient than the iRobot. The only downside is that it is slightly wider than the iRobot, so it can't go through my chair legs like the iRobot could, but it still manages to get everything clean! So happy with it, highly recommend Roborock over iRobot.

    We have had a D7 for 3-4 years and just bought another one for upstairs when they were on Black Friday sale this past November. The first one has always been problem free and we replaced the battery after 3 years and 700 something cycles. My wife runs it at least every other day, sometimes more often.
    The second one we bought was bad and had lots of problems. We returned it for another. The replacement has been trouble free.
    I respect the testing, but in our experience as long as you get a good Neato, the D7 is amazing. Does a great job cleaning and the navigation is great including the use of no go lines and zones. I wonder if you guys got a bad copy or something inherent to your test setup caused issues and errors. We simply do not see them with ours and they are well used. Heck we even had an old Botvac 85 or whatever that lasted us over 7 years with only batteries, a couple of bearings, and a few sensor deoxit treatments.

    Interesting. There's a couple things that are important with the Shark. For one you need to make sure it's on full power cleaning mode, which can only be accessed via the app. If you use it without the app, it's a default is eco mode. I'm actually really surprised at how well the shark IQ works after using Neatos for the past decade. I literally just got done testing my shark IQ vs my neato bovac connected (which is a very expensive robo vac). The shark absolutely destroyed the neato on both carpet and hardwood which I was not expecting at all. I've also owned many Roomba and always preferred Neato. That said I can't find one thing to complain about with this Shark, especially for the price. I think it works great.

    Nice review. A little kinder to some of the shortcomings than I would have been. The more videos I watch, the more I'm convinced that moping and vacuum bots need to be separate. It's hard enough to get a bot to do one of these tasks at a high level. No need to make the job harder. If price was a consideration, I'd just get a vacuum bot, and mop myself. In fact, that's what I'm doing now while I plan on moving. I had a braava back before iRobot bought the company, and it was decent. I'll eventually get the m6. I also had an old iRobot Scuba that was great. It did a fantastic job keeping floors clean. If they ever brought that line back with a empty/fill station, I'd pick it up in a heartbeat.
    If they were smart, they'd design it to use a water line, and drain along with a cleaning solution reservoir.

    I have the shark IQ. The app is poor, but mine has no problem building a map and updating it every time it finds something new. I also think a lot of it's edge cleaning problem comes from having single brushes on each side, I picked up a set of double brushes for $15 and it fixed most of the problems. As much as I'd love to have a top-tier machine, I paid $150 for mine and am pretty happy with it. I will note however that it pays no attention whatsoever to no-go zones, and seems bound and determined to get wrapped up in wires because of it. On the other hand, I love that I can set it to come back to the dock every half hour to empty itself, and if it doesn't feel it worked hard enough on the first charge it'll come back, charge itself up and go back out to finish. One weird thing I noticed is that the first outing takes it to 50% battery and it comes back. Second time, it'll run the battery almost flat before it comes back in. I got it specifically to pick up dog hair and it's very effective for that.

Previously I only had heard of Roomba's but had no idea about the sheer amount of other brands in this category. After watching your reviews and videos from others, I settled on the roborock S7 MaxV over the their newer roborock S8 model. Memorial weekend deal for $539.99 and I also opted for with additional 3 year extended warranty ($60.99) offered through Amazon, because of the 1 star reviews and malfunction complaints on pretty much all brands. I have found that mapping and navigation algorithm is THE MOST IMPORTANT factor for a robot vacuum.. more than suction power, and things like picking up edge debris and tangling on brushrolls. No home is as dirty as shown on tests.. and given the fact that we can run the vacuum daily.. efficiency is much more important.

    Here's a real world comparison of Roomba j7 and Roborock S7 MaxV. The Roomba is a solid performer that vacuums well, maps well, self empties and is easy to clean and maintain. It also has stellar customer service - real people, easy to contact, who walk you through problem solving.
    I waited for the Roborock to release the MaxV because I thought mopping on our tile floors would be a big plus. I sent the Roomba to the second floor and splashed out for the Roborock on the main floor - at three times the cost of the Roomba! Right away, I quickly regretted my purchase. The Roborock mopping pad curls up and peels off in use. Worst of all, though, the Roborock can't handle throw rugs that are no problem for the Roomba. It curls up the edge and gets tangled up and stuck. For the past couple of months, it has not been emptying its dust bin, despite all my cleaning of the chute leading to the dust collecting bag.
    CONCLUSION: I'm waiting for the next Black Friday sale to get another Roomba to replace the Roborock, which I will give away just to get rid of it. I regret the $1500 I wasted on it.

    I bought a Neato Robotics Botvac D85 in 2016 through Amazon; it was an expensive piece of kit in that era. It performed well in my big open space apartment with 2 resident cats for 13 months (one month past its warantee), the started acting funny with its charging and doing its rounds until it stopped working. Amazon sent me a replacement that had the same exact lifespan. Seemed that the device was designed to fail just after its warantee expiration.

    Did you do any decibel readings? Our first vac was a iRobot years ago. So noisy you could not hold a conversation in the same room. We then got a Eufy 11s and it was far more quiet. It is now broken, as was losing performance, so it is time for another. Just don't want a loud one!

    A couple important characteristic I wished you'd included. The ability to vac over throw rugs of varying heights and battery life/replacement. Some cannot handle any throw rugs regardless its height.

    I have one of these RopVacNic Robot Vacuum Cleaner G90 from Amazon... all 5 stars (probably fake reviews). We let it run around the kitchen and did not clean anything. Filter was crystal clear. Just sprayed water all over the place and make the dirt spread around. The central sucking up area just did not work... Give it zero stars of 5. It was quiet though. The Rumba ball tracking just pops out.. but in this knockoff, the ball tracker is stuck in there. Yes, the pad is dirty but I could just drag it accross the wet floor. Complete waist of $180. Zero stars of 5 (did not show us the tank.. mine was still clean.. should be dirty.
    We had an old Floor iRobot Scuba floor type (8 years ago) and the tank would get just gross dirt and often take 2 exchanges to get floor clear. It was only for floors. It worked well for a long long time.

    I have the following on my Amazon wish list, and as of today the prices are;
    Ecovacs T20 Omni - $989
    iRobot J9+ Combo - $1399
    DreameBot L20 Ultra - $1499
    Roborock S8 Pro Ultra - $1599
    That's a huge price difference, do the prices reflect/justify the differences in performance and features? I'm finally ready to pull the trigger and buy one but decided between these is very hard. We have a home that is mostly tile and hardwood with throw rugs. We want the best, is that the Roborock? I'd love to see these four go side-by-side.

    If you change the side brushes on the shark robot for a 3 sides side brush the performance cleaning edges improves a lot.
    I have a shark iq, and when I opened and saw the side brush could not believe it that one side side brush could clean well, so I purchased the uefy side brushes and modify the shark to fit the eufy side brushes.
    But this year I discovered that shark is making 3 sides side brushes now, so I purchased some. I haven't tried them yet since the robot have good eufy side brushes. Once they need replacement, I will install the shark 3 sides side brush and see if they perform better or equal to the eufy.

    It's interesting how much Shark was able to improve between generations. I would love to get your opinion on the AI 360. It has added air vents that are supposed to push debris away from edges and corners. I ordered one for only ~265€ as an Amazon warehouse deal (330€ new). My alternative would have been the Roborock Q7 Max+ which costs 489€ here. These are my choices because I have a German Shepherd that sheds year-round.

      I own a shark ai ultra 2 in 1. I’d put it in either a lower A tier or upper B tier. Shark has made a lot of excellent improvements to the app and it is much more accurate and less buggy these days. The AI 2 in 1 is a damn good vacuum for the price! The mopping is quite excellent and it cleans corners flawlessly. It also does an edge run before fully mopping and vacuuming. But I will definitely be getting a Roborock if they ever offer a bagless option. That’s honestly one of the things that sold me.

    Do you think the vacuums which path erratically are doing so because they are in such a confined space?
    Perhaps try expanding your enclosed pickup test surface area by 2-3x the size and re-test the vacuums.
    I could be totally wrong, but if I'm right, then that test has been completely unfair for certain robot vacuums.
    My line of thinking is that they're not programmed to be in a space like that. Instead they're designed to be in a room-like situation. So when they're enclosed, they sort of bug out since they're not sure what to do.

      I can't overstate how important the "robot" aspect is when evaluating robot vacuums. The s9 is a terrific vacuum. It has excellent suction, like you said. But it's not a good robot.

    • @autodidact7127
      @autodidact7127 Год назад +1

      @@consumer-analysis I recently made a comparison between this robot and others. I am not familiar with the cons you listed. This robot functions incredibly well with mapping and navigation. I wonder if your test vs the VSLAM tech inside does not provide enough data for the robot to localize itself. Mine has located every room and barrier in our house to a very accurate degree. Transitions between carpet and tile are handled with changes to the vacuums behavior. Not sure what your issues were but to say that the S9 navigation is anything less than superb is odd and seems to fall on its face. Not to mention it's capability when vacuuming is FAR superior to all other vacuums on the list with the exception of the S7 which has an additional method of navigation in the obstacle avoidance camera. Not your fault but I think my disagreement is merited.

    My first robot vac was a Neato and I've used them for many years. I liked the "squared" shape thinking it gets into corners better than round vacs, though I'm not sure if that is true with this video. However it is pretty moot as it seems Neato was about out a few years back and finally is being closed down by their corporate overlords and many of the "cloud" functions are not working as of this writing. Rest in peace, Neato.

  • @1kreature
    @1kreature 11 дней назад +1

    So sad you made a test area smaller than the minimum working area for the Neato and there is no asymmetry or anything to allow storing the map for later cleaning. I bet many of the vacuums would do better if a fake door jamb was set up in the area and the area slightly enlarged.
