I was six years of age when I first heard this song on the radio, even at the mere age of six I was hooked by the amount of passion and energy in your song "I'd Love To Change The Word". I'm pushing 60 now and I credit Alvin Lee, yourself and the remaining musicians who formed your band Ten Years After for recording such a wonderful, powerful and yet melodic song for turning me on to music, it's something that I've always looked to for inspiration. With the internet and sites like RUclips I can now go back and watch so many excellent bands in concert. Recently I watched an entire Ten Years After Concert at the Fillmore and was just blown away by the passion your band had for playing live. I mean Alvin Lee was just unbelievable in the way he has a command over his red gibson 335, but I got to tell you I just loved the way he came over to one Leo Lyons playing bass like nobody's business, played along a bit while clearly approving of the incredible amount of energy and tempo you were rolling along your bass line with. Alvin was ripping it up and he knew Leo Lyons was doing the same. I've been to literally hundreds of rock concerts, that was my thing for nearly three decades, and I can't recall any band performing with more intensity and sonic goodness than Ten Years After in concert at Winterland circa 1975.
Thanks Leo, you still sound great, I appreciate your music and good nature.

The song has a great mood/feel. Every part works. Singing is great, even the phasing of the vocal on the chorus is spot on. Alvin's guitar work is gorgeous and the tone matches the song. When you only have one guitarist, the bass player had better be good, and Leo is superb here too. It's a timeless track as so many have commented. I wonder what Leo thinks of Jetta's version?

Very cool to be able to see and hear the bass! I always wondered why this was never in the live sets. I figured it was because there was an acoustic playing all the rhythm stuff plus all the fills on the electric and Alvin was the only guitar player. Such a great song, and from a great album as well. 'A Space In Time' and 'Rock And Roll Music To The World' have always been my two favorites from Ten Years After, along with the Recorded Live album. Many great memories of listening to TYA over the years.

This song got me into music. I remember hearing this song as a youngster, probably 25 years ago, and immediately felt that I had to learn to play it. I bought a guitar and practiced the intro for months. Since then I've played in many bands and made a living from music for a few years.
It's great to hear and see these basslines being played. The basslines during the solo give me goosebumps, this sure is bass at its best! Just amazing, what a masterpiece.

Then I saw the movie and saw your energy. Yeah-hee! Bad Ass! You made the band too. A while back I listened to you description of you experience at Woodstock '69. The bonus these days is that there are so many RUclips videos teaching bass and not all charge money, . Watch, pick up runs and practice till you get them off slick. I'd suggest using a drum loop or a metronome to keep in time. Play with other people if you can. Hope this helps. There's a video my site called 'something like " Playing bass. Just go for it'.
