This was a wonderful review and an interesting teardown too. I really like this 34-XX a lot. The Anbernic engineers knew their assignment and they delivered; just like Rob does with each RTD video. I thought that intro was slickly done.
You SAY "one last hurrrah for Anbernic to close out the year", but there's still two weeks left of 2024. In Anbernic's release timing that's like three more handhelds!
Love the detailed teardown! I definitely don't need this, but it hits the nostalgia hard. Hoping they make a transparent fuchsia since that was the color I had growing up and I would love to have an updated version of it.
I think if this is successful for Anbernic like the SP, they will probably do a second wave with new colors! 🤞🤞 The transparent fuschia is such an awesome GBA color
I feel like buying this for my little one to have a similar experience to me growing up with the GBC and only getting an Advance SP much later! Perfect combo with my RP5 too
You blew my mind with tate mode 🤯 I never would've thought the start-select buttons would be usable like that! Brilliant. Another reason the AGB-001 form factor is superior to the SP.
Wish they made a pro model with dual analogs and stronger processor. But this is still my all time favorite handheld form factor, so much better than sp.

The thing is though, the original version is one of the few Dreamcast games this chipset can emulate perfectly, so you could also run that on this if you wanted. (Another DC game that runs on this near flawlessly is Rayman 2, THAT is gonna be surreal to play in this form factor)
I wonder does it have a special screen like the original because there one specific game that require the special screen to collect sun light the game is call Boktai The Sun Is in Your Hand
mGBA in RetroArch emulates the solar sensor that "Boktai" used. On my Anbernic XX-SP I access it when "Boktai" is running via pressing the Menu Button > Quick Menu > Core Options > Input & Auxillary Devices > Solar Sensor Level. There you're given a choice between eleven levels of "light" from 0 - 10. You're also given an option to use your device's electric eye to automatically adjust the light level like the game did on original hardware, if your handheld is so equipped. These Anbernics don't have one of those sensors; but, most phones and tablets do have one of those sensors.
Ooh I see, it’s the same distance in from the outer edges but because the screen is bigger they are no longer centre aligned horizontally between the screen and the edge of the device
Does it support bluetooth audio? The thing that stops me from using any handheld is lack of bluetooth support since i really hope to use it exclusively on the train to university with my airpods
As far as I know, no Anbernic XX handheld has Bluetooth audio support. I know my XX-SP doesn't. The included Bluetooth transceiver is only for controllers. This only applies to stock firmware. I've read/watched people say that the custom OS devs are either working to enable Bluetooth audio or they've already enabled it. I forget which. So, you might be able to use your AirPods with it when it gets a custom OS, or you might not.
so the sp is 3.5inch so GBA is like 3.4 i think almost the same except the resolution? nice video i prefer the versality of 4:3 but it the best 3:2 device
The 351 has a 3.5" screen so it's just slightly larger, but it is a lower resolution display (480 x 320). It can handle 2X integer scaling for GBA. The 34XX has a 3.4" screen with a resolution of 720 x 480, so it can handle 3X integer scaling. They're both very nice for GBA and if you have a RG351P, it's a little bit less interesting unless you really like the look of the 34XX.
In the next year I hope we get a 3:2 Anbernic Handheld with Analog Sticks and the Allwinner A527. It should be able to pull off PSP Emulation while looking good at the same time.
Only reason I'm not buying is because I saw a gba shell I want, welp looks like I'm gonna have to mod it (would have been cheaper to buy this instead.......)

Probably because they were going for the original ergonomics. If they aligned the d-pad and buttons it would push them closer to the edge.
