Way to go. Getting to appreciation early. I just took my 16 year old son to GTLO last week and I started playing the live concerts for him. We didn’t have that growing up and we got gem after gem of live shows on video 2 or so years ago. We never had that Just like this, it’s so beautiful. We are so blessed seeing this and all the latest concerts and footage that have been released.
Greatness always reaches out and touches souls across barriers of time, space, age, what have you. Reminded me of the time I first played Hendrix for my lil girl, all of 3 years old. She listened, wide-eyed, and as the last notes of Voodoo Child died away, she asked "what was that, papa?" I said, that was Jimi Hendrix, he's playing the guitar. (yes, she knew what a guitar was, because she'd seen mine....such as it is!) She was quite for a moment, and then asks, "can i have a guitar like Jimi Hendrix's, papa?" And i said of course you can, darling, and thought: just as soon as you are as big as the guitar!
He just plays all the right notes. That’s the only way I can describe it. He is the most expressive emotional player of all time. Pure creative genius and talent.
It’s not “especially” open tunings! He had such a masterful knowledge of musical theory and a creative way of looking at the guitar that he literally created and adapted the tuning to be able to reach the notes he intended to play!! I can hardly hit the notes I want to play in my mind in standard tuning, so I am awestruck every time I watch him play!

This is why Clapton will always be wrong about Page. Page could play sweet harmony and melodic tones, but he could also give you the raw thrash that your heart desires. Clapton never could get that raw intensity that Page could. IMO Page is way better than Clapton. RIP Claptons Hands
Clapton never strayed far from the blues. Page knew no musical boundaries. That's what made Led Zeppelin so exciting. What Page is doing here is clearly influenced by Indian music.
Constantine i honestly never understood why Hendrix is lumped in with page all the time, Hendrix was great yes. Innovative? Yes he was but did he ever actually sit down to a full crowd and do something like this? Did he play the music that is what zep is known for? I missed The Yardbirds almost entirely; I was too young and, moreover, completely removed by a gulf of distance from world culture, having been born into a remote and isolated industrial backwater plunked into a dark, cold and endless Canadian forest. But thanks to a friend's older brother, I was there for the inception of Led Zeppelin, on vinyl at least; and from that moment on, THAT music (the first SIX albums) was probably the most important thing in my life, from 1969 through 1975, at which point I rejected the past and my life and my origins, and I moved away from home and never returned. And I sold those records, maybe for other records, maybe for food. But it's only now that I begin to truly understand the importance and lofty achievement of Jimmy Page, completely aside from rock and from fame, and his place in the world alongside Davey Graham, and the traditions of English folk music, and Gnawa, and south Indian classical music, and the exodus of musical cultures from north and east Africa, by way of the rural south in the United States, and a host of other influences, and how he, in his own original ways, carried these holy grails forward. I'm learning how to play some of these things on the acoustic steel-string guitar now, and it raises my spirit to find myself come full circle. The end is the beginning.
It’s mind boggling just how good Led Zeppelin was. jimmy page was the most expressive player of all time. Love this Indian classical number. I can feel the emotion flowing through jimmy page and his fingers and coming out of the guitar. Greatest band of all time and it’s not close.
I find it so great that Jimmy Page originally performed this with the Yardbirds, and then continued to play it through many performances with Led Zeppelin! Shows how much Jimmy cherished this piece. Led Zeppelin FOREVER!!!

I have watched this nearly every day since I found it, and will continue to until the day I die. Mastery of the guitar in every sense of the word. For those who don’t know the context, this was Led Zeppelin’s “coming our party”. They had something to prove. This was the biggest venue in England at the time, and Page felt like he had to silence the haters. This piece is purely a showing of skill and mastery by Page to show that Zeppelin were here, and here to stay.
I’ve listened to Led Zeppelin ever since I was a child but I should look into their history more thanks for sharing that, Jimmy Page is literally the only reason I ever wanted to play a guitar from the first time I heard him. Best guitar player ever born imo.

Randy California of the band Spirit heard it too. There was a time you couldnt even give em away. Just like the Stratocaster , before Hendrix , nobody wanted anything to do with them. Now everyone has to have one. The rest is history. Rock on JP. You have our full attention. DD in L.A.
02:03 John "the god of drumming" Bonham has joined Jimmy "the mage of the guitar" Page in attempt to elevate the audience to the seventh sphere of existence. This is beyond superlatives.
This is why Jimmy Page is the best guitar player of all time. This one performance. It says everything. An emotional experience. Could you really see Keith Richards or Pete Townshend do something like this?
Wyatt G I just think they’re different, and both otherworldly. It’s hard for me to rank musicians because art is not black or white or a competition (probably why the Grammy’s piss me off so much haha). Definitely still fun to compare though!
The one thing about Jimmy Page was that his sound was raw, he never tried to recreate the studio version sound of his work. He may be choppy at times but that’s just how it is playing the guitar! I love it!
It's fascinating and unreal. I can't help but think about Charlotte who was backstage, I feel that if I had been in her place, I might have fainted with admiration. I've never felt that before and I will never feel it again.

So much for Jimmy's alleged sloppiness live: a brilliant performance and, had I been there and the rest of the numbers of this standard (likely), I think my head might have blown up!
His “sloppiness” is a bit of a punk rock aspect to Jimmy, pure raw, alive, and purely in the moment. The imperfections are part of him expressing his soul live and not just playing a written part straight.
How about that? Jimmy Page was note perfect, Robert was his charming self, Bonzo the magician--and I have to repeat my favorite anecdote from Robert Plant the first time he met Bonzo. I think it went something like this, Page had just done a performance with Plant and Jones and someone playing drums and after the gig, Bonzo came up to Plant and said, "What you need is the greatest drummer in the world." And Robert Plant answered, "And I suppose that's you?" And of course it was. To reiterate, one of the most innovative, talented and creative rock bands in the world hung up their guns when the irreplacable Bonzo died. Apparently, his playing was what make the band come together. He had such fantastic rolls and taps and hits and clings, that without him the band simply was without its musical motor. His fills are legendary; what he was was Jimmy Page on drums. He was Jimmy's twin. We thank these lads for giving us the dream that will never die of life in the time of Led Zepelin. You have saved a generation of people from growing old in their minds.
Robert Plant spoke those words in an interview with English radio station. One got the feeling they hit it off right away. What they say about the sixties is that if you remember what happened, you weren't there. I'll try to find the broadcast. It was his words and Bonham can't say. I was repeating his anecdote. But hey, ask him? I think he will answer you.
Jimmy appreciated Clapton and beck.jimmy a nice man.with old fashioned values.he would not have been trying to upstage them....Jimmy was just being the greatest guitarist.EVER.

Just look at the tuning man, try to learn it by ears, it's a lot more rewarding
Then do like he did: learn it fro pm Dave’s Graham, the genius behind the arrangement…then publish it as your own work. Done.
No doubt..
Jimmy and brilliant John Bonham on drums leisurely sipping whiskey; My favourite piece by Zeppelins;
Bought the How the West Was Won DVD when I was 15, and just worshipped this and other songs from this concert. Only now is the rest of the world catching up.
This will always be a classic. I cried after listening to God strum the guitar with his sheer talent. This video changed my life forever. I am forever grateful to music
He was the most creative out of all the yardbirds guitarists.
I like it when Jimmy wipes his left fingers on his leg at 4:16. It's the little things that count sometimes. Love love love it !
Jimmy Page....um monstro da guitarra!!!!!
i think he played guitar in the cuna, je je je
Точнее гитарный урод😂
Page and Clapton are still friends after all these years. This song is a rare treat and shows the virtuosity of Jimmy.
Holy shit man I thought the acoustic version was amazing....this version is extraterrestrial out of this fricken world man. Y’all have no idea how much I dream of being at a Led Zeppelin concert I was born in 2003 when I should have been born in the 40s or 50s. My ears are in heaven ethereal 😳💕 my mind has been blown and will continue to be blown by the magical artists of the past.
I hear ya. I always longed to have the chance to experience these bands live
You have to dig deep and local to find anything similar. Check out obscure bands playing where you live. Bars, live local festivals etc. Stuff is out there, tho now we can't find anything close to Jimmy playing like this!!♥️
Hearing that you love this so much and then mentioning your age, gives me hope for your generation. Keep it up!
This performance is something i’ll be watching for the rest of my life... and I’ve just turned twenty. Led Zeppelin is something that transcends time and you & I will be the lucky ones to watch that happen years down the road.
Was thinking the same thing, I was born in 03 too
@@aidanoreilly7861 same as my friend and some musician died on his birthday back in 70s but he just wants the world to be peaceful
I don't even know how to comment this. Out of this world
This is what you get when 4 Master Musician's come together never again will you see this..Love Jimmy I could watch this over and over again bad ass greatest guitarist the world has ever seen 💕
NO DOUBT!!!!!
@@constantine7382 Hands down 👍
never forget getting mothership back in the fifth grade and popping in the DVD and watching this whole show in one sitting. blew my mind and changed my life forever and still the epitome of cool to me. thank you jimmy, thank you led zep
Love how cool page is as he wipes his fingers on his trousers whilst playing, not missing a note
.....i listen LED ZEPPELIN from 1970 . Incredibly architecture in XXth century !!!!!! This is High Class of High Art !!! Music for All the Time FOREVER !!!!!! ........alex vitebsk Belarus 🎩
So insanely wonderful there isn;t a word to describe it
He’s played on DADGAD, tuning of gods 🖤
I take a shock every time when I listen and see a perfomance like this...acoustic or electric version. remains a a Jimmy's masterpiece! WALTER
This is the reasonn why I bought a Danelectro,,, a very humble obtainable guitar but Jimmy heard the potential of the instrument and got the sound he was after with it. Randy California of the band Spirit heard it too. There was a time you couldnt even give em away. Just like the Stratocaster , before Hendrix , nobody wanted anything to do with them. Now everyone has to have one. The rest is history. Rock on JP. You have our full attention. DD in L.A.
Think I've watched this over a thousand times at this point...Some insane picking
2:51-3:04 is literally the craziest lick I’ve ever heard in my life
Of all my music loving friends I try tj talk about Zeppelin and they say "I know" until I show them this. Same thing. Jaw drop.
Page is legendary w the likes of Hendrix
vikzillllla Hendrix was great, but Page is greater
Wyatt G I just think they’re different, and both otherworldly. It’s hard for me to rank musicians because art is not black or white or a competition (probably why the Grammy’s piss me off so much haha).
Definitely still fun to compare though!
vikzillllla yep
You don't have to defend your ranking. You got the greatest TWO! I usually say Page but will not argue AGAINST Hendrix!
Unbelievable. Truly incredible
The one thing about Jimmy Page was that his sound was raw, he never tried to recreate the studio version sound of his work. He may be choppy at times but that’s just how it is playing the guitar! I love it!
One of the best live performances by any human in any medium. Period.
Maybe this is best performance ever filmed. Imagine all those concerts which are not filmed...
It's fascinating and unreal. I can't help but think about Charlotte who was backstage, I feel that if I had been in her place, I might have fainted with admiration. I've never felt that before and I will never feel it again.

Every artist, writer, painter, singer and fighter surely had a magical stuff that can't be re-created even if they tried themselves ❤️
9:54- 10:09 sounds like one of those jams Pink Floyd would have done in the early years. Ethereal and mystical sounding. Very psychedelic
Very true
I really want the tabs for that part ,it's so good
@@osama_salem just look white summer tabs live and you will find it.
Hey You
@@GeneralArtisan out there in the cold?
So much for Jimmy's alleged sloppiness live: a brilliant performance and, had I been there and the rest of the numbers of this standard (likely), I think my head might have blown up!
His “sloppiness” is a bit of a punk rock aspect to Jimmy, pure raw, alive, and purely in the moment. The imperfections are part of him expressing his soul live and not just playing a written part straight.
Bonham is a monster on this
Who is still out here in 2022 listening to this great performance? #Ijustcreamedinmypants
How about 2024
the 1st time I saw zep, their first time out, at the CarouselFillmore West in January of 69, this tune blew me away!

A Pleasure to listen to...🙏❤️
How about that?
Well said
That never happened both plant and Bonham were in the same band before page discovered them with grant and maybe Richard cole
The man is legend!
Absolutely stunning performance on his 26th Birthday. Pure shredding and nuance at its finest. The Cosmic Master @ work....
Boomers and beyond are blessed to have musical treats this in our lives ❤
Jimmy appreciated Clapton and beck.jimmy a nice man.with old fashioned values.he would not have been trying to upstage them....Jimmy was just being the greatest guitarist.EVER.
This is my favorite performance of this ever!
Godlike and heavenly all at once! White Summer indeed!
Marvelous!!! One way or another it brings back memories to fairport Convention's ..... The deserter??? ..... something from Liege and Lief!
Uncle Jimmy at his best,,,on a humble Danelectro,,,,,,,that everybody wanted,,,
I've never seen this. This is F'ING AMAZING!!!
9:55 is the most beautiful part of the song. Wish he would have stayed on it a little longer...
True
That’s the genius behind it. It leaves you wanting more. Keeps you coming back.

I so agree. My favorite part of the whole song...its so tender and heartbreaking...brings tears almost every time. 👍
Did you know that White Summer is based somewhat on the traditional Irish tune "She Moved Through the Fair"? After that (about 4:15) he moves into Black Water Side.
Well spotted. I noticed that old Irish tune in there as well.
*Black Mountain Side
Nothing is Jimmy’s 😂😂😂
both arrangements are stolen from Davy Graham and Bert Jansch respectively
