Not so much that it was a fan-game, it works, but it was [gasp] _non-profit._ Oh. You can just imagine the look on Nintendo CEOs when they discovered this gem:- ruclips.net/video/7-oZed8aSEE/видео.html
Why would they hire someone for making a fangame based on a 35 years old game? Can he actually develop fully rendered 3D games on an HD system with a very specific engine? Because if he does not know how to do that nor speak Japanese because that's where their entire dev teams are, beside Retro, I don't see what Nintendo would gain from hiring someone who is not qualified at all to do anything meaningful for them. Before you say it's just because they don't recognize true talent or hate westerner. Earlier this year they gave freaking Zelda to a canadian indie team that had only made one game before. If they are able to do that then you should maybe reconsider the value of your work if they decide to turn you down instead. Also funny thing, what he did actually violate their IP rights. You know that most developers who actually want to work on a Nintendo project actually make a demo and present it to them instead of making it publuc and then whine when they get taken down for using IPs they don't have access to. Also have you noticed how all those shitty Nintendo fangames from 10 years ago are still up? I wonder why that is...

Now that Super Mario 35 is dead and gone, this game needs to exist more than ever, and it sucks that legal reason mean it can never come back. Nintendo took this guy's work down, stole his idea, made it a limited-time experience, limited it to 35 players, and then took their own game off the eShop. Edit: I forgot to mention that the game was not even free. You had to pay an online subscription in order to even play it.
Not only that, they wrote the article praising the guy, and then after the fact some killjoy emailed them his original announcement and his portrayal of Miyamoto was so utterly racist(?) they had to make a quick edit to show that they have not touched one of 'the untouchables'. how? theres bosses that must be defeated that give power ups to kill other bosses. one player kills gutsman, and then dies to a spike pit, then what? now theres no gutsman, the only guy to get the power up is dead and everyones dieing to cutman.
It wouldn't work like that though. If one player kills gutsman, gutsman would only be dead to that one player. Everyone else would still be able to kill him. If the boss died permanently for every player that would just be horrible game design
Hello, I had a look at your video. Here's what I figured. The original code was called mario royal, it looked like the art was a straight copy of their original assets. Once, they were made aware it was likely the took a copy of the code and video representation for legal archives. Just by looking at the art replacement in the final portion of the video ,a judge would have easily said the changes were not enough. Use a different shape instead of the coins, or add a design to the coin that makes it stand apart from the original. Change the color pallets completely on each level. Change the layout of each level. Do not have flags at the end followed by castles. Change the motif of each level, give it a theme that stands apart from the source. It would also help to add a background image instead of solid color. The sky has the clouds with eyes, that look like mario. Their shape looks unchanged. The hills could pass if the brown bricks were not so similar to source. You could change them to a dirt texture and add a layer of grass. The bricks are still blue and identifiable as close to source in the second portion. Change the entire layout of each stage so the obstacles are not similar to the original. Change the character animations to not mimic mario. It would also be a good idea to have an original character. The changes still have a mario shape and move set. Change the shape of the mushroom, but it would be better to not use a mushroom at all. Obviously use different sound and music. With enough effort you could easily salvage the game code, you just need to have the art and level design not copy an existing IP. It looks like you are completely capable and talented of building an original game. Good luck!
How much would you say your channel grew because of this game? Happy one of my all time favorite creators got some serious as Hell recognition outside of this platform.

If Nintendo had a brain, they'd hire you to make an official Mario Royale game for the Switch, But they'd rather censor one of the most innovative uses of their properties in decades. Thanks Nintendo!

@@abloogywoogywoo For FREE~EEE!
I wonder why that is...

how? theres bosses that must be defeated that give power ups to kill other bosses. one player kills gutsman, and then dies to a spike pit, then what? now theres no gutsman, the only guy to get the power up is dead and everyones dieing to cutman.
It wouldn't work like that though. If one player kills gutsman, gutsman would only be dead to that one player. Everyone else would still be able to kill him. If the boss died permanently for every player that would just be horrible game design
Or there’s no boss at the end and it’s a flag?
I'm actually working on this, I have the netcode working and a few levels made :)
jannycorp Inc. ...really?
Good luck!
