  • This out for the trash DeWalt drill battery pack has seen better days. But no one make a direct adapter to 20V for this one. So lets get a power wheels adapter and make it work.

Im currently looking for replacement batteries for my DeWalt DC730 14.4V, and DeWalt no longer makes them (surprise). I dont want to bother with the knock offs, so I may try this

I may not be doing this. I find that there is a pcb inside the 20-18v adapters that shut down the lithium batteries before they go so low that they are damaged and will not charge again. So, the 18 volt protection is in the battery pack. The 20 volt is in the tool. The 14.4 never had it as the battery is NiCad. The device you are using has no protection for that. As long as you keep charging before they get to that level, like as soon as it slows at all, then you might be safe. Probably going to modify an 18v adapter to fit the 14.4.

Ive been looking for a converter / adapter for some time for my old Dewalt impact driver & your idea seems good /simple to do - using up the old parts as well - thanks. Ed,

Thanks for the idea! I think there are power wheels adapters for lower voltage and many different brands. I will try to do what you did here but with Lidl's Parkside 18v batteries, cause they are dirt cheap
