    I like the fact that you don't complicate yourself when making these batteries. I've seen a few other battery makers try to combine various types to get the most power possible and it seems like such a risk for what is an unrealistic reward. In other words, too good to be true. I'd rather + the original by a decent margin and have a dependable battery rather than a potential risk. So kudos on that too.

      Disagree. I refuse to spend 100 USD or more for genuine NiCd battery, because they aren't made anymore (screwdriver is obsolete, but still works). Besides NiCd degrades by months if not in use.

  • @Dennis-mq6or
    @Dennis-mq6or 3 года назад +3

    Same system and same board that I used.
    I didn't have the proper diameter piece of plastic that you did, so I drilled out the dead NiCad.
    It charges fine in the DeWalt charger.
    I have heard people say that theirs didn't.
    The only difference I can imagine is that I left the 10K termistor attached...
    Maybe the DeWalt charger checks for that...

    Let me give You little hint. Please start using thicker cables when You are connecting B+ and B- to BMS and from BMS to battery connectors. There is a lot of amps there. Your cables looks like 1,5mm² or around this. Look how thick original cables are. Its for Your safety. White ones in this video are good for balancing but not for carry load like 50A...

    • @gear_show
      @gear_show  4 года назад +10

      That what I want to hear, thank you very much for your hint!

      Also the lithium cells used here are no way near rated for the current needed under heavy load. This is not a safe build.

    U was used a 4s bms , thats why the red light was turned on on the first place , after look like u remove that little diod and things start to be normal . But in my opinion u need a biger wirig on negative side , and a constant amperage too ,about 1 amp in your case.

      No, it won't work for long. With multiple batteries, one would discharge more than the others, and they would not recharge equally. Soon, it would stop working.

    • @rolls_8798
      @rolls_8798 3 года назад

      unfortunately no, the way you charge NiMH or NiCad batteries is quite different from Lithium ion batteries as Li-ion battery empty voltage starts relatively low and rises significantly as it is charged, and if it drops below a certain threshold or is overcharged it can easily catch fire. The original charger can accomodate for none of this. However, I assume you could gut the original charger and put in the buck convertor or a standalone 21v DC power supply and (assuming you wire the batteries to the terminals properly) it should work fine

      Different marketing terms. Nominal voltage versus fully charged voltage. Notice how you see 20V "Max" tools now that are interchangeable with the older 18v tools. Besides that, these tools have a tolerance for voltage--they have to, because batteries naturally fall as the charge state falls. Probably from about 20.5-21v on a fully charged battery to about 17.5 or so on a really dead one.

    • @catsnotcops_
      @catsnotcops_ Год назад +2

      Since no one answered yet. Yes, soldering is an option, if done correctly. You mustn't overheat the cells, therefore you need a soldering iron with at least 80W and big and solid tip, so you only have to touch the cell for a max of 2-3 seconds for the solder to flow. I have seen tests where, if done correctly, it doesn't affect the capacity of the cells at all.
