- Happy New Year 🎆 I’m starting the year off with a decluttering job. I decided to tackle decluttering my master bathroom closet and drawers. I honestly thought it would be a quick easy job as gosh seemed pretty organized but I got rid of so much stuff 😍 way more than I realized I would.

Pro organizer here. I highly recommend you label your drawers and baskets. It seems like you are a visual organizer and if the bins are not see through, you forgot what’s in them. Plus it lets the rest of the family know what’s in them as well.
I totally agree. I label everything including utility and desk drawers. With partners and kids not knowing where stuff is, it’s so much easier to label and tell them to read the labels.
Agree! I'm the same way. I know there are brands that make QR code labels for bins, which might be a fun idea too!
@@justemmalyn7934 I love the QR code idea. You can update your lists in the database without having to relabel. You can also tell people to scan the QR code to find stuff.
We take our decorations down on Saturday, January 6 on Epiphany.
Real tree person here!! They don’t drop many needles & out the door when holidays are over!!! And, the smell is the best!!!

I typically take down Christmas very soon after the big day. This year it was the very next day. While I love the cozy feel and the lights, I start to feel closed in and just knowing I have the big task of putting it all away leads to anxiety. I grew up with and practiced myself while kids were all little not taking it down to the new year. Can’t hang any more. LOL. I let the last remaining child at home decide for herself, however, when her room tree and decorations come down since that’s her space. Sailing into the new year with a clean house is amazing. Still have the outside decorations drying in garage…waiting.
I take my tree down at the end of January it's so pretty I hate taking it down, my fireplace is a winter scene, so it stays until March then the summer stuff goes up.
Hey Jodi! Im fascinated when you started pulling out the tree leaves because most tree now comes in sections😂 my tree will stay up til the january 6th as per tradition of ours. Happy Happy NEW YEAR!🥳

Hey Jodi! I still live with my folks, but this month I'm really hoping to reorganize the bathroom closet, redecorate my room, and use up some of my craft supplies. Hope your new year is going amazing, and love from Michigan as well! I still say we had a White Christmas because of the fog haha :)

I am taking the tree down the weekend of the 13th and 14th..our 3 cats will be sad. We have 3 cats and each one sleeps under a tree. It is the cutest thing.😺😸😻
My daughter changed her hair style since our last decluttering, so when several of her friends were over we set out all the products she wasn't using and got rid of all but two things and so just had those to throw out! I know what you mean about fighting off hair, between hers, mine, and the long haired dauchund, the hair is a constant battle!

In Germany most people wait until January 6th(Day of the three wise men) which is a holiday in catholic areas. Some take it down right after christmas, some for the NYE-party and some on Jan 1st (because it is a holiday and everybody is hungover and not motivated to do much and it marks a Fresh start as well). But at least in my area it is about Jan 6
Great job. I need to buy a cleaning caddy. I wear my pjs 2 days too. My clothes get washed everyday. With pets, grandkids and housework they are dirty.

I still have my tree up. All ornaments are off. I plan on taking it down tonight. Decor is down too. Now it looks bare. I worked on organizing my closet yesterday. Getting rid of alot of stuff I don't wear. Next is my bathroom. Too much junk in there too.
Hello Jodi, glad to hear you had a Great Christmas. My hubs and I had Covid for Christmas not fun. When I was little we had real trees but it was funny because me my Mom and Brother would be scratching and my father wasn't allergic as we were . So in my house we have a artificial tree. Because of my allergies and my hubby has the same but my son was like my Father no allergies. But I did Love the smell in the house. We have a fake tree now. Always had a real tree but just not wanting the mess lol. Love the smell of the tree . But every year my husband says he’s getting a balsam hill tree lol . I always say ok honey next year 😂

I do have a real tree. It is a real pain in the but with pets. But they get used to it pretty quick!
What pretty wall paper in the closet. I was so ready for christmas to come down, it was stressful for unusual reasons. Valentines day went up 2 days later, much more cheery.

I need to declutter my one small bathroom, maybe this weekend. I have gone back to babysitting my wonderful granddaughter. It has been rough but joyful. Changing my Medicare Advantage plan tomorrow as it would appear my Humana is ‘still in negotiations’ with providers. Every time I would check since early December they would say check back well it is past the first of the year and can’t wait anymore, was on the phone 3 hours today with no answers. My granddaughter was so good during the time but screw it I am switching tomorrow.
I am going to purge the baby bottles and other little baby stuff. Good for your family getting rid of their stuff because we really can’t start purging their stuff.😃Thank you Jodi!

Oh my gosh..watching you drag that big tree bag downstairs makes me NOT want to take my tree down. That’s the worst part. 🤣 My tree is in 3 sections and I carry one section down to the basement at a time 🤣🤣🤣
We always have a real tree. I don't have the patience to fluff a fake tree every year. If it was up to me, I would take down Christmas decor around the 27th but the rest want it up until Jan 1st. It's always a struggle for me to keep it up that long.
Today I wiped down the fridge and freezer. I only buy food we will eat that week so there is never any expired food but it did need a wipe down.

Decorations down on 12th night as that is the end of the 12 dasy of Christmas. I don't put mine up early so I enjoy those few days of the decorations with no rush attached.

I remember when you put that beautiful wallpaper in the closet!❤ I just put lazy Susan’s in my bathroom cabinet, I also use two for my spices in the kitchen 😊I agree with the folding, my husband hardly ever does laundry but when he does, I remold the wash clothes 😂 I agree that first of the year I like to start decluttering 😊 great work Jodi😊❤

I took my tree down a few days ago. Always feels good. Didn’t grab too much Xmas clearance for the mere fact I put everything away already 😅 I am still going thru my room decluttering

Hi Jodi, nice job in your bathroom. Yes, I like lazy susans, too! We don't take down our tree till after my Birthday, the 30th. I'm 74 now! Ha. But then it's only another couple days till New Year's Day! So another couple of days. It's usually around 5 to 8 days till I take it down! But I don't really worry about it. My husband does the laundry & I fold & put them away, the washer & and dryer are downstairs. We try to do things together! Well, you & your family have a wonderful & Happy New Year! 1) Our tree stays up until Epiphany. It goes up mid-December.Have you noticed that folks who put theirs up early want to take it down right after Christmas?
2) On the rusty soap drainer, I would clean it off well with an SOS pad to remove all existing run before I put the clear nail polish on it.
3) I have learned to shop my home first before I do online or at the store to see if I already might have what is needed. Makes me feel like I have saved money by not by any additional and have saved a trip to the store.

Hi Jodi, happy new year! I also took down my tree on the first. Only ever had a real tree once years ago when our kids were very young. And while we loved the smell of it, we didn’t like everything else about it. It shed like crazy and we couldn’t stand it. It also was not as easy to put decorations on and not easy to dispose of after (where we lived). So it’s artificial tree for us all the way since then 😊
I worry about all those things so I’ve never bothered 😂

We have no kids in our family anymore, so we don’t have a tree at all - but before we used to have a real tree. Something about it.. the smell, the feel.. it’s magical 🙂
And vacuuming afterwards was my biggest fun, kling kling kling Kling Kling 😂
But.. why can’t you do yardwork now? Is it damaging the soil?
I think our climate is comparable, and we rake and so on through the whole year. You get warm while working, if that’s the problem?
I think it also had to do with garbage collection? Isn’t there another way, like storing the bags in the shed or bringing them to a recycling place?
Anyways, I wish you a great 2024, hope all you guys‘ dreams come true and you keep a good health.

Yes couple of reasons. It’s cold 🥶. I know the body gets warm when moving but I absolutely do not enjoy being outside when it’s colder than 50 degrees. And biggest reason is no pickup after November. I could store bags outside but then by spring the bags would be destroyed by the winter weather.
It’s fine though. The inside of my house needs my attention during these colder months ❤️

Good to see you in 2024! Definitely missed you last week. I am trying to get to the maintenance phase of decluttering but I keep coming across a lot of stuff to declutter. I already took most of my decorations down. Some I am keeping up thru the winter. I don't put a big tree up since there is no room to put up or put away.

I will do some declutterring next week when my husband is on a work trip! He hates when I get rid of stuff! The other day, I cleaned out dvds and he was complaining about the money I wasted on them! I had to remind him that I bought them years ago when we would watch them and now we stream everything!

Hi Jodi 👋. Taking down decorations after holidays always seems overwhelming if not done in bits and pieces and always seems neverending. 😅
Great idea to avoid the kids not wanting the end of the holidays to be evidenced by taking down decorations.
Actually better with Rust-Oleum ( spray paint)clear coat in 3 layers than nail polish.
I think Thomas had enjoyed your tree inside as being like outside being in the house.
Cleaning bathrooms can be eye opening! 😂

Happy New Year! I did some decluttering and cleaning before the end of the year. We are taking down the Christmas decorations today. I am going to declutter some clothes this week. Things looks so fresh and clean.
Happy New Year! Working on my closet side and so far have a bag of clothes! I need to do my dresser next. I have so many things I don't wear because I don't like them or they don't fit!
