  • Thanks so much for stopping by. I’m doing another weekly declutter and organize. I have a cabinet in my house that I’ve already decluttered and it filled right back up. I had no organize system in the cabinet and it looked terrible.
So I’m tackling it in this video!
This cabinet is where I store all my precious family photo albums with over 2000 pictures. The photo albums were big and bulky and taking up so much space 🤦‍♀️
I went on Amazon and order photo box organizers and decided to give those a try.
It worked out beautifully and even though this project took me forever I’m so happy with the finished cabinet and how organized it now looks.

My aunt was looking at photos of her daughters wedding.A man appears in almost every picture. Nobody on either side of the family knows who he is!I love you Jodi, so glad I found you , you brighten up my day!

Great job!! I have rationalized my thousands of pictures by proclaiming myself family historian. I bought a buffet and completely stuffed it with picture boxes sorted by kid. I do have a decluttering strategy. This method came about from trying to turn a negative into a positive. When we were moving, the moving company said that all of our things would not fit on one truck. They said that having a second truck would cost an ADDITIONAL $10,000. My "save every dollar" couponing self quickly processed that every item in my house has a weight and might require another truck. It became so much easier to let go of things. Now I just enter a space and think of how I can reduce the weight of my possessions. I don't want my children to be left with that burden--only the valuables, and of course, the buffet full of pictures. YOU ROCK, JODI!

Tah-dah! You did it. You want a picture job. After my parents died, I separated Dad's pics between their 3 girls and the 3 grandkids. It took a few months. Just pretty pics, household get togethers, and a Mom and Dad one, all have an album. Many slides were of both me and Cindy so I had to put them on 2 scan discs. All of us are happy that I took the time to do that

I am 78 and have all my photos, my husband’s photos, some of my parents and grandparents! A lot of photos! My grandson told me no one wants paper photos, just digitize them. I started but didn’t finish . So now I have real photos, digital-photos, photos on my phone, so many photos. You have spurred me on to work on my stash! Good luck to us!

With all the Walgreens free prints we get I usually try to print off as much as I can !! I usually put them in picture frames but recently have been trying to make a scrap book every like 4-5 years or so to keep them all & kind of tell a story with them. Brings a lot of good memories up looking at the old photos and movie tickets, plane tickets to like a random wristband from our prom years ago.

I have all my photos in a photo box too, all neat and tidy 👍. Also I wanted to tell you a wedding day mishap, my husband and I married in 1989, we bought our house the year before but was not allowed to live together until we were married. A couple of days before our wedding we took all of our clothing to our new home ready for packing for our honeymoon, unfortunately my husband to be didn’t think of having clean underwear for the wedding day, therefore, he decided to go commando, unfortunately, the zipper of his suit trousers broke 😚luckily the photographer noticed as we stood at the alter. The video shows, him whispering to my husband and me laughing my head off. Great job as usual Jodi ❤️

Omg , I went through all my old ugly albums about 2 years ago and took everything out and tried organizing them, threw out so many duplicates and bad memories. Then I started putting the remaining ones back in new pretty albums and I gave up. And now I’ve had piles of photos sitting on a bookshelf for 2 years. And my mom got irritated that I ruined all her albums. Lol 🤷🏻‍♀️

Use Non-Acid Products, Photo Pens to write the names, places, dates, etc., on back. Also Photo Boxes are great to. A good time to do it is in the evening when kids are in bed and you can sit and watch something or talk to your husband, while you relax.. Then during the day you can do other things you need or want to.

Hi Jodi! I was the photo person in the family in my teens. I took the pictures, shot the videos, made the scrapbooks. Then I did the Konmari method and saw how many photo albums/scrapbooks I had and if it was stored digitally I threw them all away. I had a lot of anger with my family that I couldn't understand. I am older now (in my early 30s) and have healed a lot. I don't regret trashing everything. Only thing I have that are printed are my baby pictures (1989 baby) and early childhood, no backup of those.

Jody I really enjoy watching your videos. They do motivate me and I have started some big projects. We are trying to get ready for a giant garage sale. We are trying to get out of at least 1 storage unit!! Both of my parents and my grandparents have passed and I inherited a great deal of furniture and household items... One suggestion is to put your label on the top of the picture boxes, I have the same boxes that you just put your pictures in and I put my label on just like you did. I found that I spent more time trying to find the container that I had put the picture that I wanted. So I changed the label to the top that is facing you when you look into the box. This change was less frustrating for me.

I'm baaaack! Lol. I pulled all of my pictures out of my books several years ago. I was going to make scrapbooks. Needless to say, that hasn't happened yet. So mine are all in random boxes in a tote!
Digital.... I'm still figuring that out. I don't have a computer. All I have is my phone. So I'm just trying to delete unnecessary things 1st. I'll figure out the organization later. I'm not technically savvy.
And I don't really have home decor. I have framed pictures. Like everywhere!

for children's crafts, especially your artsy child. your plastic containers are a great idea, but this is one for the future to keep those small. make a shutterfly book of their art, then throw away the actual art piece. the book can hold hundreds of pieces of art, versus a bin full of them. also could do it with your photos-i agree, I like to hold a picture. I like to do one for certain occasions - disney in one, wedding in another. they are nice since you can put notes about the event!

Pictures are my weakness! I am a cricket and a scrapbooker, so I could get lost in photos for days. I use a program called Historian 4 through a company called Forever. I really like it because it basically allows you to categorize your photos in lots of ways. It can be overwhelming to set up, but I am appreciating this system as I am preparing to make a graduation album for my oldest daughter. For physical photos, I use Creative Memories photo boxes.

I went thru all my photos last year and removed blurry ones, doubles, and random people. All kinds of photos that I did not find I loved. I also would pick favs of bdays and holidays. Instead of keeping a picture of them opening every single gift, I would choose just a couple. After I was done, I let my daughter go through them and keep some she wanted. I literally cut my pics almost in half. I still need to move them over to something like yours. Mine are in the old show box style photo boxes. It was so so much work. Honestly, I did not finish it 100%. It was backbreaking. You did a great job. And congrats on 9000!!!!

I’m afraid my photos are in boxes and albums in a big cupboard under the stairs, I have also got all my parents from when the passed and I could not get rid of them, I did go all through them a could of years ago and got rid of photos, of people feet , noses, you understand photos kids took and scenery that I have no idea where they was taken. I keep promising myself I will sort one day. Xxx

If you revisit the photos again in the future, consider 'curating' your collection. If you have multiples/ very similar photos, keep your favourite and then get your girls to pick through the others to add to their memory boxes, esp Grayson as she lives in a different house. That way if something ever happens to your collection, they're not all lost. I wish my family had done this; I have almost no photos prior to age 16, and none of my family from before I was born.

A few years ago I was executor for 3 estates in a short time. When I finished I decided to take on our family photos. We have 4 children. I bought matching albums and went through each individual album tossed blurry or really non flattering pictures so everyone can have theirs if they want them. Although my grown children told me they don't want them. But I could not stand all the miss matched albums. It works. Thanks for sharing.

I never thought to take the pictures out of the photo albums, Genius idea. I just bought photo boxes from Michaels for all the loose photos. Then I put all the scrapbooks, memory books and photo albums in a big bin so that I could hide the clutter. A lot of the organization videos I have been watching tell you to put things in containers. I have found this to be such a game changer. Although now I am spending money on containers. LOL. Thanks for another great video.

I’m not going to lie, I was overwhelmed just watching you remove all of those photos! Prop to you! I keep all of mine still in albums. Digitally, I have a flash drive with folders for each year. I haven’t had the drive to do any more than that. But I would like to print a lot and start albums again.

Looks great. I have a lot of pictures of my oldest as well. I only have a few of my youngest. I have an album for each of our children & store the rest in boxes. We were almost late for our own wedding. My father in law broke his foot while hunting and had a cast put on. My dad threw the whole rice bag at us, instead of taking it out of the little bags. We ( my husband & myself) joke & say he was aiming for my husband to knock him out.😅

I too had braces grade 5-7 bit the day I got them mybsisters friend commented that I was one of the only people she knew who looked good in braces! God Bless you Brenda for getting me over being self conscious by your kind comment.

Hey Jodi this is awesome! I too am a cricket and the micro-organizing can be exhausting. I did this with my parents pictures and it literally took me weeks. Pulling out pics from old albums, using some new albums and using the same photo boxes you have. I dated everything and tried to put them in chronological order haha! With my pictures, I have them stored in photo boxes like you or I used to scrapbook and still have those albums. When my boys were in elementary school, I made Shutterfly books for each school year that included art projects, awards and report cards. Now with everything being digital, I make a yearly Shutterfly book of our family with events that happen throughout the year. I love your decluttering series! You’re doing an awesome job!

Ok. I haven't even watched the video yet. Lol. This is just after your intro. My motivation is my mental health. When we live in clutter, it causes stress and anxiety. Even depression. Which I'm being treated for all 3. So I need my home to be my haven. I can't relax in a healthy way with all the messes.
Have you ever gotten really stressed out because you couldn't find something? My trigger for all of this, was over a thermometer!
I fell again over the weekend. It's just my clumsiness. I'm fine. But...that lead me to declutter my PHONE! I'm still working on it! It's unbelievable what we accumulate on our phones.

We have 3 huge albums and a memory card full, they are always kept in a bag near the 'important documents' so if there is fire or anything else and we need to run we can take those 2 bags and run. The bags are fire proof too.
And the memory card has yearly files with sorted monthly photos. And they have a back up on google too.
It took months and months for all this to be so sorted.
    But now its done. 🥰🥰🥰

I gathered all photos together and actually treated myself to a beautiful new album (Mr & Mrs on cover) and put them all in one place.! Along with Honeymoon photos AND Bridal Shower photos!! What a job!!! I love the photo boxes you are using...but I find having them in nice albums I tend to look at them more often. So I guess I use the boxes as a holding area until I get them in a album. I took my photo albums apart like you just did ten years ago and put them in cardboard photo boxes and gave one box for each of my kids. I kept some for me. Recently I got two large photo albums and made one my favorite pictures of old family pictures and my childhood. The other is my adult life and raising my boys. I had to stop. I didn't realize how much my divorce and my mom's death ( she lived with us ) still upset me. So I have it half done. I probably won't finish it and keep the pictures in a decorative box. My kids will keep them or pitch them when I'm gone. I understand how much work that was. It's cumbersome and emotional happy and sad memories.

I agree with you about printing out pictures is not the same when it's digital even if you're having a family party you can't even pass the pictures around for everyone to see them. I always tell the young kids now please print out the pictures

You have inspired me to get on my photo album project. I’ve been wanting to purge duplicate pics and sort family photos. I had braces too. You have beautiful teeth and a wonderful smile. I wish i could print my digital pictures. How else can we easily reminisce and share with friends and family. While i watched you sort your pics i went on Amazon and ordered those photo boxes and labels!! Thanks for the inspiration.

U agree w u 100%….nothing like the actual photo in ur hands!! My most prized possessions are my photos & albums!! A few things that helped me when organizing the 1000s upon 1000s…throwing out duplicates or triplicates…getting rid of very fuzzy or unclear pix… getting rid of random landscape pix that don’t have much meaning! I was able to cut a good amt & saved a ton of space!!🥰

Jodi, I am an avid planner and the past 5 years I have been printing my picures and adding them to my journal so i can look back at my entries and see the pictures corresponding to that day. I kills 2 birds with one stone for me since I frequently flip through my old journals!

I have started to organize my photos into photo boxes. I get stuck too with wanting perfect categories. I want the dates to be right too, but my mom didn't always get them developed right away so the dates don't always match. It is definitely a work in progress. 😊

I'm a cricket, but I try to dial back the micro-organization so that my family can put things back the right way more easily! 😆
I store my photos digitally, but I got myself a digital picture frame that cycles through a selection of favourites. I do want to go get a large print of my son or our family sometime. I do revisit digital pictures, probably more than physical prints, because I like to keep a few favourites on my phone, too, and that changes every time I upload my photos from my phone to my compute.

Yes that’s a great idea because it’s definitely harder for a non cricket to understand our organizing 😂
Digital picture frame is such a great idea ❤️❤️

Photos are huge to tackle and de-clutter!! My mom and I went through and already did round one. She has to look at every single photo and then it takes her a couple of minutes to decide to keep it or get rid of it. Bless her heart. She mentioned the other day she wants to do a round 2 and I don't know if I am up for that yet. We have ours right now stored in clear plastic containers. But, I like what you have boxes within the container.

Still loving spending time with you whatever you are doing - and you made me realise I used to have a cupboard full of photos which got moved to storage when we decorated and got rid of the cupboard over 4 years ago. Off to look for photo boxes really liked them need to sort my photos out. 😊
