- Welcome back to another weekly decluttering video ❤️
In this video I will be tackling the living room, or as we call it Gus’s room.
The living room is filled with clutter in every corner of the room and the desk and end tables are filled inside.
Join me while I declutter, organize and clean up this room.
It won’t be perfect, but my goal with any room is never to make it perfect. My goal is to make it tidy abs function better for our family.
I would love to hear any any declutrring projects you make be working on. And remember it’s one drawer at a time. You can do it 🤗

Great job decluttering the living room! If you plan to repurpose this room, perhaps the matching lamps could work in your newly repainted master bedroom. If either end table is small enough to fit into the master bedroom, it could be used as a nightstand. Thank you for sharing some glimpses of your lovely Gus with us ❤

Hello Jodi.. I came across your channel earlier this evening and have been watching video after video. Sorry about Gus. It's hard losing a family member.. even if they are one of our furbabies. Sending prayers and hugs.
I saw your vlog on your stockpile. After being homeless for a very long time and having to carry everything in a couple bags.. seeing your stockpile made my jaw drop. I don't know where I'd store a stockpile in my new apt. I only have one closet that I could use but it's the only storage space I have. Thankfully I haven't started getting anything for my apt since I'm on a very limited budget. I also have no transportation so I use the Walmart app to get everything delivered. Any advice would be greatly helpful. I ran out of shampoo.. conditioner and body wash this morning.. this afternoon.. the office sent out hygiene care bags to all the residents. There was shampoo.. conditioner and body bar soap that I'm allergic to so plan to donate. I would love to have a couple extra bottles of each. Thank you for sharing your home and suggestions. I just have to be careful EJ doesn’t grab it and put it in his mouth. Which may or may not have already happened but we aren’t going to mention that to Gracyn 😂

I am so sorry for the loss of your precious Gus. I am also a fur baby momma and my animals are my kids. They are everything to me. I still have toys from my sweet Cinderella that I lost 13 years ago. I am very proud of you.

I know how it gets when you have pets! My heart goes out to you for your loss of Gus(your precious fur baby). I still have not gotten over my loss of my fur baby and its been years!! She was not just a dog she was like family. It’s hard! You have done an amazing job with decluttering!!

Great job Jodi! So much work. I would suggest that this living room be converted to the music room. Since both girls plan an instrument, their gear could live in this room and they can practice in there instead of the family room.

I am so proud of you for sharing ❤your mess! It's hard to be vulnerable, however your video is an inspiration to me today as I tackle our guest living room! I have boxes galore of things to declutter, our cats destroyed our leather sectional sofa so I got it out of here & bought a sectional from my friend, they are delivering it tonight & I have to tackle this! Plus I have 2 boxes of gifts to pkg. up & send (from Christmas!!) In my defense, my husband had a near fatal motorcycle accident in September & we have 3 teenagers with special needs that I homeschool! The pool table in there is where all our clean laundry ends up & needs to be put away! Funny story 🤣: I accidentally washed & dried a goose down pillow that had a small rip, when I shook out the blanket it was washed with..my living room looked like a flock of geese had been in there!

Turn the desk into your daughter's craft station and buy an inexpensive printer cabinet for the printer and storage under it for its paper and accessories. Hang your daughters artwork and your grandmother's on the walls in a collage for decoration and inspiration. Also a couple of chairs and a table with a lamp allows for a small area to relax. It looks great jo matter what your plans are!

Jodi, you are showing the reality of family life esp. with pets. I have an Aussie who leaves enough fur every day to knit a puppy! Not to mention the family who also happen to be artistic. Thanks for the video. Our problem though, are books I don't want to part with.

Put a garbage can in every room and empty it weekly. It keeps down on junk just sitting on flat surfaces! Turn ur living room into a work out room! Or a music room. I have bins with each childs name so I can put their memories in them. Also get rid of the trashed couch and chair and look for a free step up on the facebook classifieds! Amazing job!!
Yes garbage can in every room is a great idea. Actually have one in there since Donna does her crafting ❤️
Hi I am new - I want to start by saying I am sorry for the loss of your fur baby Gus. They are not like a member of the family- they ARE our family members. ❤ You were brave to tackle his room. Clutter is usually emotional to begin with. I am glad I came across your channel.

@@jodidunnmymessylife1847 I went back in time a little and watched your kitchen drawer declutter. I feel like we are twins we seem to be a lot alike. I have POPITS in my kitchen drawer too. And when you told the Gus shower story and said you put a bathing suit on I said bathing suit? Pffft I would have just gone in naked 🤣
Gus seemed like a really good boy! 😍 It hurts so much to lose a beloved dog, and sadly enough two of my friends lost their dogs within a month of each other last year. Both of them had trouble dealing with the fur and toys left behind. Maybe you can find some kind of small wooden box that can store his ball inside and picture on the outside? It seems like that would be something they make. (BTW, I love Sprayway! I have a small cleaning business and I use it for all but one house, and I hate having to use the Windex they want me to use instead. Sprayway streaks far less and I hate that ammonia smell.)

I cracked up with the chandler behind the chair! Love that one window is cleaned and the other isn’t, the window frame on the couch. Lots of hard work and authentically not perfect. Well done! Best tip: get the donations out that day, same with trash n recycling. It’s empowering and cleansing!
I understand the pain after losing your Gus. I lost my dachshund Dolly on Dec 1st she was 11 yrs old😢 She had her favorite spot she laid in and just stared at me, I still feel her staring at me. It's truly heartbreaking losing a furbaby!!

If I have an extra dirty window first I vacuum it ( yep, even the glass) then I go over it with soap and hot water then I shine it with that spray cleaner you use. The aroma of the spray, I think, is pleasing and lasts a while which is nice.
Barbara it smelled like chemicals to me 😂😂
I didn’t really care for that part but the sprayaway did do a good job on the window.
If you still have Gus's tennis ball - maybe get a shadow box and put a picture of Gus in there with his ball. 💌

Nothing can replace Gus but I like seeing Thom! What a cutie! Our Freddy (goldendoodle) has done a number on our home. My blinds are tore to shreds and when he was a puppy he chewed everything incuding my baseboards. I feel like a lot of people can relate to your home as vulnerable as it is for you! Tyfs!💜

OMG my dog is the same way, he is protective of me and my house. If we are out on a walk he will growl at people, though I doubt he would hurt anyone. And if i don't tell him that the people are coming in are ok or are a friend, a lot of the times he growls and barks.
I lost my dog I had for 13 years in September of last year and we miss her so much. My 3 kids grew up with her. It's been hard to not have her smiles and character anymore. I didn't touch or move her kennel for about 2 months after she passed away. I cried when I moved it the first time. I still almost call out to her sometimes.

Hearing your gus stories broke me. My Jr passed in April 2021 he was 15 years old and it was hard. I've been decluttering to and every now and then I'll find something and is just so bitter sweet. Decluttering is def a process. Awesome video!

I'm new! Love your videos. I started in the basement and have followed you around the house. I just came to post how sorry I am about your precious Gus. We had a Great Dane named Hondo and he favors Gus. We lost him in a freak accident (words cannot convey what happened) but he was the sweetest goofball. We miss him every day. I know how much it hurts. Carry on and in time things will get better.

Great job tackling a space you've been avoiding. And what a difference inside those cupboards. I think you'll notice the most change when some of the bigger items in the room can be taken out. I think your beautiful boy will often be remembered in that room, however while the couch is in there you are reminded about the tougher times in his wonderful life. ❤ You're doing really well with your hidden spaces. By the way, nothing can brighten my day more than your hello, hello, hello at the beginning. It literally brings me joy when you say that. 🥰

talks about in her books- don’t pull everything out, remove trash, take things immediately to where they go, and then work from there . Super helpful and works great, especially if you have limited time to work on an area. Keep up the great job, it’s looking good. Sorry for your loss.

When I had my in home daycare, I put the plastic toys through the dishwasher. It gets the cracks better and sanitizies then.
Yes dishwashers are awesome for some many things! I hope to have one soon ❤️

On my windows with a chocolate Labrador that loves looking out my clean windows. I use that spray but a microfiber cloth & boom done
My favorite way to clean windows is with vinegar and water with a touch of dawn dish soap. Sprayed on the windows and use newspaper to clean your windows. Perfect streak free windows every time!

Seeing that couch and hearing your memories of Gus...brought tears to my eyes. We lost our 8-year-old beagle to cancer in January 2021..1 day before my birthday we helped him cross the rainbow bridge. Once we found out he had cancer...we basically had someone with him 24/7..yes, even overnight the 3 of us took shifts or 4 when my son was home from college. I binged many a series...Queens Gambit (loved it) The Crown..and many others in my overnight shifts. After he was gone...it was 11 months before I could sit in our downstairs TV room because all I could remember was the hard times. Losing a pet is so dang hard!!

Your videos are relatable and very motivating. I really appreciate your authenticity. You portray real life for many of us, including papers & random stuff on surfaces, in bags and shoved in drawers, cabinets & under or behind furniture, as well as dust, carpet stains, scratched furniture, etc. I can totally relate. A lot of living, with all its inherent messiness & imperfection, goes on in your house & I like that your videos reflect that. As far as I'm concerned, you're "the real deal."

Our dogs are our family. Gus deserved a couch too! Proud of you for making your way into this room. Taking the couch out now that Gus is gone will help you move forward emotionally and give you more of an empty slate to work with. Good job on your decluttering! If you don't "need" the space maybe turn it into a crafting type room.
Lori it’s funny because during one of Gus’s last vet visits the vet praised me for giving him a couch because he had no calluses where older dogs usually do and he said it was much better for his arthritis to sleep on a soft couch vs even a soft dog bed. I said thanks Doc but Gus choose that couch years ago and I just let him 😂😂
I had no idea in the long run it was better for him. I just wanted him to be comfy ❤️
I have a small dog that is nearing the end. I have given him blankets, beds, couches etc but he still prefers the carpeted floor. I remember buying this fancy bed thinking it would be so good for his back and neck. He laid in it for a few minutes then got out and slept on the door next to it. Never got in it again.
Don't know if you've tried this but I've seen people use a wide laundry basket and put stuff for any other rooms in the basket and go to a coordinating room after that way out saves a bunch of trips.
No I haven’t but yes I’ve seen that too. I think it’s an awesome for general cleaning and definitely saves trips ❤️❤️

Great job! There is such amazing light and space. I would consider a table area with chairs and some storage for a real crafters dream room. An area not set to one particular type of craft, but one that can grow with their interests.

We have a 2 year old black cat named Max and a 5 year old Siamese cat named Angel. Our black cat is so sweet too. Like your kitty.
I think the donation center you give your stuff to, loves you Jodi.There''s no better feeling than a clean decluttered room...so satisfying.I got my son a new bed for Christmas and yesterday we set it up and shoveled out his room lol. We now have a van full of stuff for donate and the dump and the rest of my house looks like a cyclone hit it.Just my preference, but I hate carpet.Till next video...:)

I just wanted to mention, as an artist, the space where the couch is has fantastic light coming in. It would be a great place for an easel, if Donna Jean enjoys painting. Or a table with a tabletop easel.

That for sure was a huge undertaking but so glad you were able to get it decluttered. It really was a transformation, for sure. And I totally understand why it was a difficult room to do, and that of course didn't have much to do with the actual clutter and more to do with the reminders of Gus. It looks amazing though! The room really seems like it would make a great office / craft room. It's very bright and open, which is great for crafting and working. But no matter what you choose to do with it, it's a nice, airy, bright room.
Nancy it was for sure the hardest space to declutter! But so so happy to get it done ❤️

Hello Jodi 🤗💐 I'm new here, first time today, I felt drawn, and next I knew I'm watching, greatly enjoying, and appreciating you taking the time to let us in, into your personal haven, and your way to tackle those messes, I love the story of Gus, God bless your heart and his soul, it's your hello hello hello and warm welcoming voice that got to me, I'm a Mom of 5 Daughters, 3 Sons in law, 4 Grandsons, one Granddaughter, and one Grandson on the way real soon, and I have one cat with gray fur, and white chest fur, and white socks and white nose named "Muschi" she is really sweet ,and I rescued her, and my second oldest Daughter has two dogs, a turtle, and a fish lol 😁, but really, I like this video, and will be researching your other videos too, and can't wait for a new one to come out soon 🤗💕😇

The room came out great! Watching this trying to will myself to get busy organizing my craft cabinets and kitchen. And I should probably clean the window our cat, Peter, sits in for hours each day 🤣

Just about 10 mins into your video and I had to share how much I love your Gus stories! Loved seeing the big guy in your couponing videos ❤️ Now we get to see and hear your beautiful kitties on your decluttering channel 🤗..thank you for sharing your fur babies with us all!
My own big guy is 7 years old (134 lbs) and we were just told at his last vet visit he has early onset arthritis. He is having a harder time getting into my car now just like you said Gus was having trouble with too. Your Gus makes me think of my boy so your stories of him always make me emotional..happy mostly! 🤗
Thank you Elizabeth! Oh I’m sorry. It’s so so hard to see them age. Hopefully the vet gave you some good recommendations of supplements that will help. Even though the car thing was never good for Gus after the arthritis set in, the supplements and meds did make a big difference just in how he was able to get up from laying down and his overall mobility ❤️
Hey I have kind of an idea like you can get shelves either the nine cube or eight and then like one can hold all their markers and pens and so that way they can put it back and then some filing cabinet holders for paper they can put their their drawings and then so they could put it away when you're done and then figure like go to the savers are salvation army and find table where they can sit do their drawings and everything can get put right back in those bin holders so that would work turn it into like their craft room!!👍
Before you throw out the trim to the window, go outside and look at your house as a whole without the trim, does it match the other windows? The room looks so good!

I have already done that. All my windows are the same. From the street the trim looks pretty in the window but it just looks so much nicer and bright inside the house without it ❤️

Looks so good, great job. Suggestion: make this space an office/craft room/chill room. Add a couch, or a couple of bean bags. More organization for craft things. I love watching your videos; so real and inspiring.

good job. I would recommend finding a thrift store other than goodwill. There are lots that support different needs - I like a local one that supports women needing rehab. They are able to bring their children with them.

I think that’s awesome. I personally donate to 2 different women’s shelters, my local church and goodwill. I love that goodwill employees people that are not employable to other businesses so I support them ❤️❤️
