  • How to Refashion Thrift Store Clothes to Vintage Style - Mens shirt with lace doily -Thrift to Vintage ep4
    In this episode, I take a plain men's shirt and refashion it into a women's, sort of light jacket!
    And I used a lace doily for the collar! Yes, a doily!

    I made two dresses with collars from dresser scarves made of Bantenburg lace for my daughter when she was in college and Laura Ashley dresses were popular in the US. Everything that is old is new again.😊

    🤔 Is there a vintage garment, fabric, tool,
    embellishment, or alteration that you have not conquered and, even made sing???
    Nope 😊. Thank you for sharing your skills and creativity, and making sewing so much fun 👌🪡🧵

  • @doro8856
    @doro8856 7 лет назад +2

    Clever changes, Evelyn. I liked them. You said this took longer than expected, but I marvel at the volume of creations you make. I never seem to have enough time to get things done, but you just keep pumping out new ideas, new creations, new make-overs. Do you have an average productivity week? I'd be interested to know what I can aim for. Once again, lovely transformation and very cleverly done. Thanks for posting.

    • @Evelyn__Wood
      @Evelyn__Wood  7 лет назад

      Hi Doro! Aww that's nice! I often feel very pulled between getting all the things I want to do done! I like to make these videos but I have much client sewing work to do, and then there's all the boring computer time... I think it all depends on what your schedule is like to how much sewing one can fit in!
      I find most of these videos take longer than I think because how long I think it will take me, does not include all the time to film along the way!

    • @doro8856
      @doro8856 7 лет назад +1

      Ahh, that makes sense. Evelyn, I'm wondering if you will ever offer an up cycling sewing course...? You have interested me in this aspect of sewing and I have the chance to take such a course but if you were ever going to offer one, I'd rather take it with you. Just wondering...?

The timing could not be more perfect and I would love to share it with you!

      But what is in their 'bottom drawer'???

    • @EuphemiaGrubb
      @EuphemiaGrubb 7 лет назад +1

      It was a euphemism young women used for collecting, saving or making the smaller household items that you would need when you got married and were setting up your own household. Things like table covers, antimacassars, linen etc. Happy days! LOL!

    • @Evelyn__Wood

    I do like doily collars & think you did a good job as always, but men's business shirts still look like men's shirts to me, no matter what people do to them. Think I spent too many years working in offices, to get past that. Shame there aren't more men's shirts available in colourful fabrics or prints - that's be nice to see.

    • @Evelyn__Wood
      @Evelyn__Wood  7 лет назад +1

      Yes, Joanne,I do agree with you! Having worn this one now, If I was to do it again I would have made the collar more into a v shape, and I would have narrowed the shoulders for this very reason! But I still like to work with them! xx

    • @joannecarroll5504
      @joannecarroll5504 7 лет назад +2

      That sounds great. & yes I understand why, they're usually a good quality fabric & there's always a huge supply of them just begging to be transformed into something fabulous. I reckon it could be fun to make a bunch of them into a 1930's beach playsuit (rather than the usual style of playsuit that people tend to favour), naturally, I'd have to break out the Dylon first LOL :)
