Does everything in sewing take waaaay longer than you think it will too? I think perhaps I should have split these up into 3 short videos... or maybe movie length is better? It's very 'fly on the wall listen to my whole thought process in style', so I'd love to know how you like it!
I love your videos. Your personality and enthusiasm are contageous. It helps me to know that you, as expert as you are, still find little things you would do differently next time.
It is a process.
I thought the wonky waist line on the jumper would work itself out. Im so glad it did. It was designed to sit a bit higher than waist. It turned out so very cute. I too love that top. I want one exactly like it, lol.
My mother has passed some time back. She was a very thin and tall lady with great clothes. My two grown daughters took a few pieces but I still have a lot of her things. I had started seeing how I can redo some to fit me. Much like the red skirt. Most are very long so it will work if I get more confidence and try. I learn a lot watching your videos. Thank you. Keep up your good work.
YESSSSSS! Whatever you do I will enjoy it no matter what. You know your schedule, whatever works for you ...I know little videos can be fun/enjoyable as well as the longer ones. Mix it up, shorts & longs based on your needs. I hope this makes sense!!!
The longer the better in my opinion! You are a genius. The altered clothes fit so well - they look so expensive and exquisite!
I was home sick watching it. So it was enjoyable.
Great remakes. I enjoyed listening as you were thinking things thru and deciding how to solve each situation.
fun fact: "think how long it will take and double it" is also a rule of game design. and probably lots of other creative things!
I have to resize skirts all the time. So yes a tutorial on how you did the skirt would be great. Sometimes i put a constrast panels in and to add length a band on the bottom. Love your work
I've purchased a black swing skirt with embroiderey but needs a wider waist, without taking any off the waist, can i add a stretchy fabric on the waist,so it just becomes a pull on skirt?
I know I’m Two years behind this video- but I would LOVE a tutorial about making a skirt larger by moving the waist band.
Yes please! I have a few gorgeous skirts from the thrift store. A-line skirts, circular ones, one with darts in weird places... I would wear them much more often if they fitted just that little bit better. And resizing bigger And smaller please! Thank you!
@@elizabethdoran7626 if u can imagine it, it can be done !!
That orange skirt/striped shirt combo has major Judy Garland 'Meet Me In St. Louis' vibes!
I didn't see it, until now!! 😅
So excited to see today's video come up! Always happy for one of these...gathering ideas for my thrifted clothes. These days my clothes are either thrifted or me-made (and those from fabric I got at a thrift store or yard sale). Here's a story from my mom (1914-2001) that I think you'll enjoy. When my dad was away in the navy, mom and 2 of her sisters (husbands also away) shared a home in Northern New York state (think COLD). My oldest sister (born in 1937) was in kindergarten, and my mom was asked to come to talk to the teacher. The teacher explained to my mom that the area they lived in was quite poor due to the economy, and the other children just couldn't afford to dress as nicely as my sister did. Could my mom please try to dress her a bit "less nice"? My mom explained to the lady her clothes were all homemade...the little wool jumper that she wore that day was made from another garment that my mom had taken apart, and remade. The embroidery on the dress was covering up moth holes in the fabric! We've all enjoyed that story many times. My mom was the oldest of 14 children, and KNEW how to "made do"!! I love the heritage of creativity that my mom bestowed on us!!
I love your story, thanks for sharing.
Please please please do a tutorial on how you made the skirt bigger! Thanks!
Kelli Ann this!
Yes please
Yes, please do a detailed video on resizing a waist band to make it larger. Would be so helpful. Thanks.
I’m so happy you used that steam technique to remove the holes where the “seam holes” were, I recently picked a pocket off a shirt I had and couldn’t figure out how to get the holes out. Now I do thanks.
And rub your finger over the holes so they relax back!
Olivia Roche I just wash my shirts after removing pockets, seamholes mostly gone.
An idea for your pinafore: Find a thrift store garment to cut up and use for the "ribbon", or use a man's silk neck tie!
I used to volunteer in a Charity Op Shop & they get many hundreds more ties donated than they can sell, so they often have to toss bags full of them (it's almost the same with scarves). Sometimes I like to go & grab a few silk ones in elegant designs & keep on hand for small alterations like these. At way less than $1 each they're always a bargain & silk is super strong.
Resizing a skirt would be a great video! 💃🏽
Lol, my jaw literally dropped when you said you could make the skirt bigger by lowering the waist! I wish I'd seen this year's ago before I got rid of my "skinny" clothes.
That blouse looks like it'd be so versatile. Different skirt lengths and shapes to give the impression of different eras.
Oh that pinafore! Just the most adorable. Nice work ma'am!
Great refashioning! You could put another line of vertical stitching on the waistband to even it out visually, and sew some decorative buttons between or on the two lines.
That navy blue and white checked house with the large ruffle is probably my favorite blouse you wear. So classy!
Excellent taste and styling.
Pockets yes, losing them would be criminal.
I would have salvaged the original pockets for facing and used other materials for the insides.
I wad thinking that as plan B 😉
Excellent idea!
Or cut the waistband in half lengthwise and faced it with a different material (or a grosgrain ribbon for vintage vibes). Thus preserving the pockets!
I love your reaction to “plastic” ribbon.
Beautiful refashions! Enjoyed this video. I feel like we got 3 for 1. I like hearing the thought process behind your work. I would love to see a video on how to enlarge the waist on a skirt or circle skirt. That would be very useful.
Thanks for watching!! It was definitely 3 for 1 your right! Perhaps next circle skirt I get!! 😀
@@Evelyn__Wood beautifully done. all 3 looked great though i thought the white top on its own made you look older however paired with the black dress fabulous. learning a lot through your videos. i am just starting out in sewing myself
Toni I'm really glad your learning alot!! I hope it helps your creations come to life!!
I too am baffled by the “sleeve string” thing. Just why? Such an improvement on that cute little blouse!
Oh!!!!!!! So lovely to meet your beautiful sweetie pup!!!! Thanks for bringing her (?) him (?) on camera! 😍😎🥰
Exactly!!! That's what I said as soon as I heard you sacrificed a pocket. I said, "Well, you could keep one. 😀
In the red skirt and striped shirt you remind me of Mary Poppins from the sequel!!
I’m so glad to see the white voile soft blouse.
Quite a few garments are dowdy but the white sheer blouse is timeless and classy
My favorite moment of every refashion video is always the before and after comparison.
The way you enlarged that skirt was like a revelation to me! I had never thought of going down the skirt before!! So clever. I’m definitely gonna keep that in mind when I’m thrifting. Thank you!
I would love to see in detail how you managed to make the skirt bigger!
Please do a tut on the lowering the waist of a skirt to make it fit. Thank you!
Old time formula my family uses for removing seam and stitch lines when ironing, try spraying with white vinegar I do it and it alway works for me. Just a suggestion.
Cutest puppy ever! They're so sweet looking!
The fashions were lovely too.
MAJOR Mary poppins vibes with that red skirt outfit. ❤️❤️❤️
hey! I'm very much interested in a video on enlarging skirts(waistbands) ! :)
especially regarding button up skirts
A tutorial for making a waist bigger?? YES, PLEASE!!
I don’t know why but I’m mesmerized by the moves of your beautiful hands 😯💚😍
They were definitely all a success. Belts can be such time savers. I have one in every color.
More things to do with finds that are too small would be fantastic - Thank you xxx
Love your bigger transformations too.
Would love to see a “how to make a skirt bigger” tutorial please 😊
The orange skirt styling has very strong Mary Poppins vibes. Love it!
really enjoyed this video, I like to hear your thought process, like when the ribbon is too expensive, so you don't buy it and work out another solution 😄
I'm altering a bunch of clothes I inherited from a dear dear friend who passed away. Instead of just changing the size, you've inspired me to do a little more
Yeah, when you said quick fix for what you planned to do with the skirt I was like "waaait, how will she do that quickly and easily?!", haha.
I love the skirt and the pinafore!! Would love, love, love a tutorial on how to do the alterations on the skirt!!
That black pinafore is absolutely gorgeous on you when you styled it!! I want it 🙂
It's SO NICE to not be the only one who refuses to spend $10 for a little ribbon...buttons...fill in the blank...I wouldn't say I'm a cheapskate, there are just always options, if you're willing to do a little legwork, & put a little imagination into your projects. Thrift stores & second-hand shops are a great place to find, inexpensive, brand new discarded sewing supplies.
Wow, you can really see how much fun you had while posing and showing the clothes!
Really liked the video and the idea.
As a professional organizer and costumer (I know, I *know lol) I gasped when I saw your laces organized in your filing cabinet. My little heart went pitter-pat!
:: swoon ::
These are indeed lovely hon. I was so impressed with your organized ribbon stash! Best I have seen aside from the brilliant collection at The Way We Wore! I am supposed to rehab a couple of file cabinets for my husband, now I am thinking.... no, I think I shall do up an old dresser for now, I will let you know. You are such an inspiration, dear lady. People so need these skills! There are alarming statistics out there about our young people knowing so little how to take care of themselves. Here in America some folks spend twenty dollars or even much more per month on $4 clothes from Walmart, paying with credit cards that have 19% interest tacked on! Meanwhile a staggering number of households have sewing machines languishing with no one who knows how to use them.
A message to gentlemen everywhere: learn at least the rudiments of sewing! I met my husband while attending a gloriously beautiful college on the rugged coast of Maine, the top of New England. In my dormitory there was a sewing machine, and while most of the girls understood the basics, no one could figure out how to configure the mechanisms and thread the foolish thing! Enter my lovely future husband, who became a rock star in popularity the moment he began threading the machine for ladies. Good thing I had snapped him up as my boyfriend the very first day of school! There was no Walmart, no place to buy anything new or used, and that first year the snow covered the first floor windows of the school. So adapt and mend we all did! Now that little school at Bad Little Falls has a much larger town around it, for good or ill, but I can imagine there are young ladies out there who wish they could repair or remake this or that, and a gentleman who can come to the rescue might just be well appreciated.
I wouldn’t mind wearing that pinafore over a dress like the one you have on, so the problem with the length is not a problem anymore :-) And the contrast between the two fabrics is just great!
Oh maaaaannnnnn!! When you opened up that organised lace drawer!!!!!!! As soon as I finish my latest sewing project, I'm gonna get my sewing room finished and organised properly!!! That is magnificent!!
Love them all and enjoyed how you talked your ideas out
You are unbelievable! Absolutely love your work! 😘💜
I think your theme song should be the one about dancing with the Prince of Wales from the 1930’s. Enjoyed the video as usual!
Between you and coolipra I am rethinking the donation bin. Since retiring I've cleared out my closet several times of the business clothing, don't need so many dresses, the tops and skirts I haven't touched since retirement. Yes, I still sew but comfortable clothes that feel good in the Florida heat replaces the a/c office wear. Now I've gained a few pounds and I hate getting rid of a couple; and I'm into rethinking what to do to save the garments. You help my creative juices flow. Thank you!!
Definitely up for seeing how you embiggen a circle skirt!
Love that you found a way to extend the waistband! I have a pair of trousers that could use the same treatment!
I love this video, with the refashioned thrifted items, and all the thought processes and fitting expertise explained!
I went down a "rabbit hole" this week, of unpicking pockets to take in the sides of a thrifted garment. I persevered, and now have the joy of wearing! You are inspiring! Hugs!
Omg, I just died and went to heaven seeing your organized laces! 😲😍
I think all three look great on you....especially the blouse and skirt! I love this type video! Thanks so much!
Thanks for watching!!
I LOVE that beautiful silk cotton blouse. Looks perfect for a hot and humid summer day.
The ribbon on the back of the pinafore just makes it ✅
Great job Evelyn ! Vintage patterns dresses tutorials Madam pls.Lets put all those thrifted fabrics to use .( :
Really like these, I would love to see a whole video on making skirts or even dresses (?) bigger! I often find things I really love that are small. P.S. I love the last hat!
I make skirts larger on the regular cause vintage skirts have the best material and tiny waists. (the smallest are also often on sale at the thrifts! Cause almost no one can fit them!) I take the waist band apart and use a new material on the backing of the waist band. That enables me to keep the pockets and lets me match seams if need be! I lose a tiny amount of skirt waist band height that way, but it is worth it! I love love this! Can't get enough of hearing your process!
You are absolutely fabulous! I would so wear the gorgeous black garment🤩🤩🤩
it is so good to have this 3 beautiful pieces in one video
These are always so wonderful! I would love to see a circular skirt resizing video!
I love, love, love, refashions. Please do more!!
😀😀 Ok! Thanks for watching!
I'm now "unpicking" all the time. I'd never heard that term before. Only knew seam riping. Absolutely love your videos. What an inspiration. Keep up the good work.
Very smart! Our grand or great grand mothers would be very proud of you! Very nice to learn those tricks from you. Thanks!
All of the finished garments are beautiful, but I particularly like the blouse.
Really love the idea to use old bed sheets and duvets to make up the prototype for the fitting.
That skirt is beautiful.
So clever I would never have thought to have done that !
You are a delightful breath of fresh air Evelyn! I so enjoy your videos. Your vision and creativity are inspiring and fun! Such a talented young lady. Thanks for your positive contributions to our lives!
Aww thankyou! That makes day 😘
I loved the white blouse and the red skirt. The skirt with red striped blouse was so sharp.
Did you refashion ref/why blouse you wore with ref skirt? It now has neck bow.
I love seeing the little changes that you make to garments because it gives me ideas for my own fixes!
Good sound advice, I am always sewing, unpicking then re sewing garments that don’t fit properly.
I will be following theses three steps from now on.
I would love a skirt tutorial, I am in the same situation but I don't have the legth... And of course I am a beginner
I would be interested in a video about altering size of skirts.
My favourite was the pinnie. Thank you, another interesting video. What a wonderful character you are. Love you to bits!
Those turned out incredible! What a difference those adjustments made! Love!
Loved all three ‘fixes’ - wish I was as slim as you, everything looks good on you.
I love stuff like this - I bought a gorgeous velvet skirt with a ridiculously skinny waist - managed to turn it into a pinafore using the original darts to fit over the bust and adding some straps using some velvet scraps from my stash
I love them all, but I think the pinafore is my favourite. And the skirt. Actually all of them !
Love the work you did on the garments, especially the pinafore. The green hat and other trim looks really good with it. Would LOVE to see you do a video on your hats!!!!
Hard to pick a favorite but since it’s good for you to know the orange skirt with one pocket. Love it.
This made me happy today!
Fantastic Evelyn ! I could watch your videos all day !!! Would love to know how you did the waste and on the orange skirt !! Thanks again 🙂
What a fabulous idea for making that smaller skirt fit. Great job!
Wow! I'll take a different look at clothes at the second hand store next time. I won't be timid if I mess up as I would with brand new fabric. Thank you. 👍😊
I love your endearing cheerful attitude!...
You've adjusted your clothes beautifully...Thank you so much for sharing!😊💜🕊
Clever pocket! 💕
Really Beautiful result. I like to watch all your videos. Thank you for Sharing.
I loved the with blouse, but I kind of wanted to see it with that thin lace trim..
I have a blouse redo that is at a stand still. I hope I can fix/finish it.
Love the orange skirt with the stripes top. But I have to say that pinafore is my favorite! I just love it!!
Loved the refit and I vote yes to the tutorial on enlarging waistbands
Razor blades are amazing for unpicking !! I learnt from an old boss and it's now a life saver!
Now I want to see everything you refashion! Lovel work and I too enjoyed hearing your thought process.
I enjoy all your videos, the longer the better.
I think I especially liked the blouse...love the fashion.
