    i was a fashion design major, ive seen some chaotic shit, but i have NEVER seen someone gather fabric like that. you can literally just do a loose straight stitch (like 8 stitches per inch, don't know the euro equivalent) across the top of the skirt and pull on the bobbin thread to make a quick gather. (in school they tell you to do 2 lines of stitching, but theyre all liars, you can do it with one) it takes five minutes and then you dont have to pin in "halves" onto the waistband. the only time i would use the "half" method is to put in pleats.

    Oh jeez, I thought her talking about people "stealing" her clothes was some kind of joke and not literal, but no they really broke into the car and took the suitcase and bag of clothes, books, and sewing stuff. 🤬I can only hope Karolina is big enough that enough people can be on the lookout to get the stuff back.

    Pro tip for everyone who sews, you absolutely do not need a gathering foot, all you need to do is set your machine for the biggest straight seam possible and increase the tension on the tread, run a stitch on the fabric you want to gather by itself, then you put the already gathered fabric on your waistband and sew them together, if you want it to be gathered tighter all you have to do is pull on the tread and hold the fabric ❤

    Another easy method for gathering is to run a zigzag stitch along the edge, then run a strong thread (buttonhole, crochet thread, yarn, whatever is laying around) under the stitches. Anchor it on one end and when you pull the strong thread it gives you nice gathers you can pin down and stitch in place. A lot fewer broken threads than running basting stitches along a long edge, too.

    This is.... so helpful?? Not in a way that as a beginner I should follow the tutorial in such a lax way but... just taking the perfectionism and tossing it out the window? You're like "pff whatever it will work somehow" while I don't even know where to start when sewing because I have no clue about sewing and always thought there needs to be everything done right?? Thanks for this. Pls do more. I'll try to make a skirt once I have time 😤

  • @Noel.Chmielowiec
    @Noel.Chmielowiec 10 месяцев назад +2

    Best idea that I've seen about inserting zippers: baste the part where your zipper should be, sew the rest of the seam. Press it. Then put the zipper like it should be inserted, closed, with the seam still basted. Sew it from the place where it meets with the rest of the seam to the waistband. When you can't sew because of the pull, stop, sew another side. Then take out basting stitches and open zipper, sew the parts on the top, there you go, maybe it took way longer than it should but it apparently works every time.

As someone who has never really sewn anything historical (or really anything at all) for myself, I find that a lot of the tutorials and other videos of people sewing here on RUclips can be rather complicated and black and white (so much so that it feels impossible to even try), but this one it feels like I might actually be able to do!

    Most of what K. makes I'd never wear myself, (maybe after a few beers), but you/she inspires me to sew some camping/travel bags I've had in my head for a while now. Maybe some clothes too later on. I'm no novice to the sewing machine but it's been a while. My mom's Singer from my childhood is at my sister's house. Not sure how old it is but I think late 60s; still going strong. Like riding a bike. Just got to get a feel for that foot pedal.

    My record is 25 minutes to sew a skirt. A mum was picking up a Mary Poppins costume in 30 minutes for her 10 year old daughter, but I was not happy with the skirt.
    I had heaps of fabric in my stash, so that was not an issue.
    I was just finishing the hem when she turned up.

    Me and my sister in law sewed this very type of skirt, but according to a pattern following instructions. Took us a few months, several tries/re-doings and slight change (pleats instead of gathering) 😂🙈 Well, we also put in pockets. But I guess those changes would have taken like 10 min extra for Karolina! It took us a bit more than half an hour to get basically the same result 😂😂🙈🙈🙈
