Agree Ross. It is a great car to drive daily and a fantastic car on a long trip. I have done the Melbourne - Sydney trip countless times in ll my cars over the years, and I have had some rippers, but nothing comes close to the Stinger on a long trip. Superbly comfortable and supreme power when you need it. An absolute pleasure to drive. It really is a Grand Tourer at its best

Kia could double sales if they better market the versatility. Perhaps they could give a roof rack option and a 'family' interior package with tougher mats and material in the back seats. Then target dads saying 'think you need a boring CUV on stilts to get the family around...think again.

Had mines for 3 months now and im still smiling every time i get into it as it never ceases to amaze me
The best part is road tripping with this car. The sound cancelation is superb and when you need to overtake all you do is drop a gear or 2 and you will overtake in no time. Oh and the comfort of the car. I could sit in there for hours on end and yet not need to stretch
I do have a few very small things i dont like about it
1 the auto hold feature is quite annoying as most european cars disengages when you press the break again whereas the stinger only engages it when pressing the break and not disengage thus the only way to get it off is to apply power giving a strong jolt or hold break and press button
2 the a/c has to run with the infotainment system and not like most cars have a small display next to it
3 the exhaust genuinely needs an overwork because it sounds like someone constipated and is trying to push everything out all at once
But all in all these are just very miniscule points where i can live with and if kia fixed it for the next gen it would be the greatest budget grand tourer ever on the market

Revamped will be mostly very light cosmetic changes to headlights and tail lights. You should be able to get great deals on unsold 2020 very soon. I saved quite a lot of money by waiting a year before buying my slightly used (20 000 km) 2018 Stinger GT Limited back in August of 2019 from a local Kia dealer. Doug DeMuro did the same recently, but he got even luckier than me, he found a brand new unsold 2018 for a bargain price! Shop around!

See the upcoming changes on the Korean channels. Bigger entertainment screen, bigger IP LCD w/lane change cameras, ambient lighting, new 2.5 liter engine, quilted Napa leather, etc.

    • @stevecox8979
      @stevecox8979 4 года назад +2

@@havok3344 Not sure if the 2.5l will not be available in all markets. Pity because that would have been a tough call as to whether to go for that instead of the 3.3l. There seems to be some indication that it might be in Korean and US (maybe North American) markets but its not necessarily going to be sold in European/UK (where I'm based. If some or all of the new items mentioned above find their way to the UK market I'm very interested, however the depreciation on preowned, nearly new models is equally appealing. I have time to make a decision. I also understand it might be the intention of Kia to supply some option packs. Have to wait and see what they are for my market I guess, or until their officially announced. Hoping the lane changing cameras come to our market - definitely a really cool gadget and useful for safety. The 10.25inch infotainment screen was a nice addition. Also interested to see what the exhaust changes have been made, or sound like. I probably wouldn't have bothered with an after-market but if its an option on the 3.3l or standard (even better) it's very tempting. :D Wheel alloys have changed too, but I didn't mind the original, they looked OK to me. Also heard that the Brembos may also now be an item in the option packs. Also heard in the Korean market that the base 3.3l price is slight decreased which I guess offsets some of the cost of the add-on packs. Just have to wait for the official offerings for the respective markets (outside of Korea) to be confirmed along with availability dates.

Completely agree about badge snobbery. I looked at a BM, Audi and Merc and compared performance and standard features and price and the Stinger wins by the length of the Flemington straight. I bought a Cerato GT last year and was thrilled with it. Even more enamoured with my Stinger. A chap who owns a Porsche looked at mine and could not believe the high quality of it compared to his Porsche.

What a great review. I have the 2019 Stinger GT2 RWD Panthera Metal(Dark Grey) exterior with the same light interior as your test car. I absolutely love it! It is crazy fast and looks great.
I swapped all of the Kia badges out for the KDM “E” badges. Every single person stops me to ask what kind of car that is. I always say it’s a Stinger and they say “who makes it”. If I said Bentley they wouldn’t bat an eye but I always say Kia and they SH!T their pants every time.
The trunk feels HUGE because it is so easy to get large items in and out of it.
My biggest gripe about the car besides the stock badges are the stock wheels. I just think they look to busy. I like a more traditional look to the wheels so I am swapping my 19” wheels out tomorrow for the Genesis G70 19” wheels. This have a much more classic look.
The only car I want more than my Stinger is the Chevy C8 Corvette and those are almost impossible to come by now.

    • @LearningFast

MattBrandCars my favorite thing about the Stinger is that when I am just cruising down the highway I can average almost 34 mpg for fuel economy. However, with two quick clicks of the dial I can drop it into sport mode and have all the fun I want in it.
The ECO mode in the US actually has a little known feature called “Coasting”. It is OFF by default so most people don’t know about it. However, this feature disconnects the transmission when coasting. That improves fuel economy noticeably especially when coasting down hills.
I love how versatile the Stinger is. It is a great daily driver but it also is a great sports sedan.

I'll never understand why only Australia has the bi-modal/performance exhaust out of the whole world. We want that in Canada too ! (2019 GT Limited AWD owner here).
FYI: On the highway, I was able to hit 8.0L/100km on a 1300km roadtrip... and after 630km I still had 111km left in the tank while going between 80km/h and 130km/h depending on the speed limit! I'm usually closer to 12-15L/100km in mixed conditions, flooring it whenever I leave a stop sign haha.
PS: In the end you talk about getting it as a performance car... for around $2000 AUD/CAD you can unleash the beast and get something like +80 awhp. Simple JB4, seconday downpipes, intakes and some good gas :)

An excellent review in simple language without all the other crap that others like to include. I have had some excellent cars over the years and I have enjoyed them very much. With my hand on my heart, I can honestly say my black Nightsky edition is without doubt the best car I have owned and driven. Value for money and bang for buck, I am not sure there is anything that gets close to it for performance, standard features, quality, warranty and driving enjoyment.
It is frighteningly fast if you put your foot down, coming out of a rest area on the Hume I gave it a short squirt and got to 178 effortlessly before I realised how fast I was going. Those huge brakes really do a wonderful job of slowing you down.
It clings to the road like Liberace holding onto a choir boy and it has just about all the features one wants as standard.
Improvements? I would like to have fog lights and voice command for the telephone system and sat nav like my Mazda 6 and Merc had, however that can be done through an iPhone or Android phone if connected with a usb lead.
As Roger Taylor from Queen sang, "I'm in love with my car" could not be truer words.
Looking forward to taking it to Tassie, when this curse on mankind finally ends, and driving it on those country roads which reminds me so much of driving through the highlands of Scotland.
To all Stinger owners, enjoy your car as much as I do. It really is a stupendous supercar

Nice review. I have the 2018 HiChroma Red AWD Stinger GT Limited, and was wondering: does your Stinger GT have directional headlights and auto start/stop features? BTW, I love my Stinger and I'm rather proud to be the underdog with the Kia badges on it. Here in Quebec, Canada, there are almost as many Kia cars on the roads as Hyundai and Toyota. I see more and more Stingers and Tellurides (yes, that bloated, monster SUV). Also, this coming Monday, I'm having the stock exhaust on my Stinger replaced with an S-Type Cat-Back Borla. Should sound sweet!

    • @belvederedog3015
      @belvederedog3015 4 года назад +2

Hi Alain, it does have directional headlights and it also has auto dimming headlights when on high beam. It senses oncoming headlights and automatically dims the lights. Great on country roads when natural light is dark. It also has self levelling headlights. My GT does not have the auto start / stop feature. Just wish it had fog lights like the Cerato GT, Forte in your country. Like you, I love my Stinger and could not care less about what people think of the badge. It is amazing how many people have a walk around it when I am parked and come up and chat about it.

My GT Limited has every single feature available, including 3D camera view. I even have the smartphone UVO remote starter app working free of charge for 5 years, which is not even available in all countries I believe. Not sure why Stingers in different countries have different features? It might be in part relative to market studies conducted prior to bringing the car to market. but I suspect government regulations might play a big role also. Here in Canada, auto start/stop supposedly helps with fuel economy (although it has been proven that it doesn't really make a difference), and that feature is annoying as hell because it's too eager to shut the engine off at a red light. It should wait a few seconds more before committing to turning off the engine. Fortunately, it can be disabled, but alas not permanently. You have to remember to press a button each time you get in, to turn it off. The only things that don't work that well are the auto rain-sensing wipers and the Lane Keep Assist which are both a little slow to react.

The issue with the Kia Stinger is the fact that it's a Kia. Whilst that's not exactly a bad thing, given the long warranty, you'll be forever justifying why you spent nearly 80k on a Kia to friends, family, co-workers and acquaintances.
Kia should've put the Stinger as part of Genesis or branched out with it's own upmarket brand. Although Kia needed a Halo car, the Stinger wouldn't pull the same attention that the LFA did for Lexus or the GTR for Nissan

He is talking about 15L per 100km, I have had mine for 13 months now and the average is 7.5. Greatest car I have ever had and better than European Crap. The Bi-Modal exhaust is terrible and a waste of money. The hands free phone system is ten years behind the time, which spoils the whole car for me. The Sun roof on mine has never been opened and never will. Hate the Blue colour, looks really ugly. Overall I rate this car 9.5 out of 10, but this RUclips video was very amateurish and he did not know what he is talking about.

Not sure why you argue with me on that point considering I agree lol. I had no issues with the hands-free so completely disagree. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I love the blue.
