The fact that a now 13 year old generation of car (FG) is still a benchmark for a premium sedan today is the greatest compliment to the Ford Australia team. Love your work Ross.
@@intrinsicimagery I think Kia definitely under-rate the performance - my G6E-T is dynoed at just under 400rwhp, I was surprised I didn't gap the Stinger GT as much as I thought I would. Probably the more sophisticated transmission?
The G6E's just look so nice though, and let's not forget the Barra i6 engine will outlive the v6. Everyone seems to forget the i6 is the most perfectly balanced engine format. With that comes reliability and simplicity.
Personally I'd still go with the G6ET, mainly because I prefer the sound of Inline 6's over V6's. I still like the Stinger, but I'd still go old school Barra
Agree, I've owned a few V6's over the years - mostly Japanese - never fallen for them like I have with the inline 6's. A naturally balanced engine is IMO always going to beat an engine that requires balance shafts.
@@RossReviewsau yeah the straight six is always a durable beast I have driven every Ford with an inline 6 from the 90s. The FG is an amazing car with a barra under the hood, can't best that
Thank you Ross for the comparison and really good review. As a former Ford fan and current stinger owner I really must say this stinger is the spiritual successor to the falcon. Ford fans in Australia really need to give this car a chance it’s everything the falcon was and more cheers
congrats on the stinger! i think its a amazing car for a lot of people and should be a LOT more popular.. its scary almost how similar the cars are on paper lol i still do feel tho the stinger was a little more flat then the ford.. not as much character but that's not necessarily a bad thing depending on what you want.. i also think with a tune and some bolt ons the stinger would be an absolute weapon like the falcon
I consider the Kia to be somewhat similar to the current Skoda Superb 206 I had. Leather everywhere, all the technology, magnetic suspension etc and quick enough (the 206 is AWD), but when I pulled the G6ET out of the garage, I always had a smile on my face by the first intersection. The Skoda's gone and the G6ET remains.
Thanks for sharing! totally agree it's the charm n personality of the Falcon eh.. it just makes you wanna smile even if it is the "lesser" car.. its just got that "IT" factor somehow
I understand blokes wanting to live in the past will rate the Ford over the Kia. I used to think that way myself. But being a brand snob just prevents you from discovering cars that you may find nicer to live with every day.
I think its just the fact that its budget power. The G6ET will set you back because they seem to be going up in price too. But a XR6T will do fine in most cases. Just to be sure with what I'm saying though. The G6 cannot compete with the Stinger in all things new. The interior is swanky like a Merc, the power seems to be really great and it has a modding community already. But for someone who doesn't care much about what brand or how luxurious a car is the G6 looks pretty sweet.
@@ReaLzEdits Excellent comment regarding living in the past. There were some brilliant cars in the past. I had a WRX that I thought was the mutt's nuts when I bought it in 2000. Brilliant car at the time. A truly wonderful driving experience. Times move on. I bought a Merc many years later and it too was fantastic. Some of the features were options which enhanced the car. My Stinger GT has everything as standard that once were options. The cars of the future - a couple of years from now, will have even more safety features, better fuel economy, nicer interiors etc. Totally agree with you about brand snobbery. The Koreans and Japanese are making superb cars to take on the Germans. I could have bought one of the German equivalent cars to my Stinger but when all things were factored, the Stinger won by a mile. I am biased but the Stinger is a super car, yet I understand why people who have owned Falcons still love them.
Falcons have an Australian history, and their a “drivers” car which is why I think we hold them so close, the simplicity of a car that essentially only has music and aircon makes you (in my mind) pay more attention to the road - the car isn’t begging to be looked at and used besides the direction you point it
That’s doing anything to make your head justify your preference over that car. Saying it has a better interior and functional interior components is a bad thing?? Right. Have you taken account that stingers mostly would have very little kilometres unless a 2017 model. Good luck finding a g6e with low k’s similar price to a stinger
The Stinger is a nice car for sure. But it is overcooked with way too many lights and buttons going on in the cabin. Totally agree with you Jon. It needed to be simplified as a drivers car and not trying to compete with the features found in a Gulfstream cockpit. There are way too many distractions going on in cars now, pulling the drivers attention away from the road. Give me the clean lines and simplicity of the G6ET anyday!
Make your own judgments bro not someone else’s. Too many buttons is not valid. What buttons are you taking about. Lumbar support?? Ahaha I can’t believe they put more advanced tech in it. I’m gonna write to the ceo In koreas as this is just not on!!
I think you will find as technology advances there will be more features included in cars. There are quite a few buttons in my Stinger however I find I don't need to use many of them continuously. I get into mine, press the start button, switch the dial into whatever mode I want to drive in and that's it. Set your driving position once and you don't have to do it again as it is memorised. Put the aircon into auto mode and you don't need to touch it again. Set all preferences and they get memorised. There are lots of buttons and functions for safety features and set them and forget them. I personally like that. My friend was a collector of classic cars and he had a beautiful old Porsche, a real drivers car, which he used to drive as much as possible whilst his newer cars were in his huge garage. He had a head on and was killed instantly. Police say if he was in a new car that had the safety features associated with most modern cars he would have likely survived. You need buttons to control all the available features in modern cars but I do get your point.
I have owned and loved my G6ET since 2008 and enjoyed every one of its 160,000 km. This ford still feels and goes like new and will easily give me 10 more years of great performance while holding its value. But I have started to look seriously at the 2022 Stinger GT. I am amazed that have you put such a great comparison together to help me with my difficult decision. Classic low tech Aussie muscle car vs new high tech upstart at a remarkable price. You have excelled in covering both the technical and emotional considerations that I am going through right now in considering this change. Well done!
You are 100% spot on with the kia over done on gadgets and electronics.. The FG has so much more personality. GO Ford The cream G6E just feels sooo special and a great place to be.
@@FocusRS500 it does man! especially from coming from driving 2.4 litre engines lol. Will do mate. Just a shame it guzzles fuel, says its doing 17.4 (all city driving)
people can't buy them because they're too expensive mate. Most people can't afford new cars. The beauty of commodores and falcons was the fact there so many 2nd hand ones that were affordable, before they stopped making them at least.
Man, i think you hit the nail on the head when it comes to the stigma surrounding the kia badge. They used to be crap. But the stingers appear to be quite reasonable. Im a falcon guy, so, i dont need to say my opinion. Bogan aussie here. But good review. Unbiassed which is great. You cant buy a new turbo falcon though. And atleast a stinger isnt some crossover suv.
@@RossReviewsau kias are really popular out my way, but not stingers. The sub category cars people get told they want. But for under bmw and Mercedes prices, they're the only rwd sedan on the new car market.
I had the deposit paid on mine 1 month before you made this vid mate, i picked it up 4 weeks ago. That's how long i had to wait for mine, its a 2022 badged so has the new back end and the bi-modal exhaust as standard. Straight up i can tell you its quicker then that 1, with my wife watching me type this i cannot say how fast without getting into trouble. :) I have had 3 fords in my life and 3 holdens. I have even owned a 1987 Ford Fairmont Ghia with the Digital dash and the Eco 4 Fuel injected Crossflow 4.1 ltr. Was my wedding car when i got married i loved that falcon, in saying that this Gt Stinger is the 1st brand new sports car i have owned and the smile has not left my face since i picked it up. I could not be happier with my choice i have already put 2500kms on it in a month i had to move my 1st service day forward 3 weeks hahahaha. :)
I bought a G6ET 4 months ago after looking at the Stinger and I absolutely love it! I'm sure the Stinger is a great car but the G6ET was 1/2 the price and my first real car was a EF Farmont Ghia with the XR6 engine and I loved that car so the G6ET was a no brainer once I found the right one.
Good choice! i would def go the G6ET mainly for the price savings.. but also the engine with a few mods sounds insane and the barras are so quick and easy to work on.. i like the stinger but its a lot of money compared to the barra
Same here I went from 2002 au xr6,and the first g6e turbo I drove I bought bone stock 2014 mk11 with 122k on clock beautiful car black on black, although I'd love the tan mango fgx g6e turbo seats
FG2 G6E Turbo also told you where fixed radar are and the Point to Point detectors also gave you an average over the distance but the maps are out of date now and cannot be upgraded like the FGX Sinc2 maps as the map maker was sold and don't make those maps anymore. Mine is red (Emperor) with the cream interior.
i drive a Series 1 G6ET and love it. Its been my daily for around 6 years and does not miss a beat. Comfortable, cruisy, but with a bit of poke. I do wish they had a little bit more tech and interior styling though. Just a little 😉 I do like the KIA though. I think the front looks tough, but the back isnt really my thing. The Quad Pipes ....... nah. I think the interior is pretty cool. Price has alot to do with the KIA's popularity. I think most bogans can't afford it, and most yuppies would prefer a BMW or AUDI badge. Perhaps if the price drops as they float into carsales some bogans might start buying them up and car workshops might put more effort into tunes and parts. Give the KIA 10 years and see how it fits into the Aussie landscape. Anyone who whinges about any RWD Turbo performance sedan being sold in Oz needs to be bitch slapped. You hear me RUclips comment sections.
good points man.. the price is fair i think but its still a lot of money for most people and they don't wanna take that chance on it... im really interested to see how they last and what the prices do because make no mistake its a really nice fun car... ps up the barra :p
I’ve owned both, and as much as I loved the G6E, the stinger is a much nicer car to drive, is faster, handles better and has all the mod cons. Modification wise, there are stingers with 700hp already, so I guess time will tell. I’d happily own another Gixie though!
Open deck counterbalanced V6 - it's not ever going to do Barra numbers - and the Barra will probably still do more as more development is done. Don't get me wrong, it's a great engine, and I'd happily own one - but it's never going to be a 7 second car.
@@SouthlandFlyer not many people, but when there’s big power to be made, aftermarket support is huge, parts are cheaper and you end up with much better mechanics willing to work on them, for a good price.
F6310 didn't receive launch control. However, the manual XR6 Turbo's and F6's did have a "launch control" type feature similar in sound to a 2 Step. The XR6 amd XR8 Sprint did get proper launch control, the same as the FG GT R-Spec and FGX XR8. Great comparison though mate.
i've reviewed a FG F6310 before with launch control and launched it..? pretty sure the manuals got launch control from factory... gald you enjoyed the comparison anyhow
Great comparison Jon need to do more of these. Haha you know your Aussie audience fella, as a overweight bogan that wears wifebeaters n footy shorts i for one wouldn't drive a Kia even if they made a skits V8 because 1st impressions last!
yeh its a fair point.. it just doesn't speak to the true aussie car fanatics.. on paper its similar but driving it.. its trying WAY to hard to be fancy n sporty when the falcon n commodore didnt.. just felt a little less special if thats the right way to put it
Stinger made be a decade newer with fancier tech and interior but I would still take the G6e any day. Surely u do a G6et vs Calais V8 comparison soon. The true aussie competitiors :)
The Kia is okay Jon ..I had a good look at one late last year at work . It belonged to a former workmate and friend who was visiting us . That said the Falcon is the heart and soul and as we speak has huge runs on the board . The Stinger will need to earn it's stripes over time . We know the Falcon has a genuine bullet proof reputation especially for the engine longevity so the Stinger will need to prove itself with stuff like that . Personally It's not my taste but I'm too old and set in my ways to truly consider buying that sort of car . The interior generally is nice, so is the tech features if so inclined in the Korean car except for one major thing for me .. A absolutely hate the IPAD info screen half buried into the dash look and any car with that would bug me big time ..Once again thanks for another informative and honest review ..Great stuff .
perfectly said Rodney.. the KIA still needs to prove itself that why sales are low. if it can do this over the next few years and kia can survive the model.. i think it has a chance to do well in time.. glad you enjoyed the comparison :)
The reason why the g6e didn't receive LSDs is because 0 people would buy the xr6. They needed to offer things on the xr6 that the g6e wasn't offered. Holden did similar stuff with the LS3 Calais and SSVs with options like electric seats and all that. It's all marketing
My wife had a g6e turbo and I absolutely loved driving that thing. And so did she. She’s probably even worst then me and wouldn’t even look at the Kia, not even test drive one.
Even as a Ford man myself and love G6ET I’d take the Stinger over it based on the fact it’s a newer more refined vehicle. Fgx I might take the G6ET but Fg Mk2 definitely the Stinger. Might also be the fact I had one for a couple months as well
I went from an FG XR6 to the Stinger. The thought of driving a 'Kia' will be far less horrifying once you've actually done it. Reality is if you want a new car (warranty/etc) then the falcon/commodore isn't an option any more. 5 or 10 years ago I would've died laughing if I knew I'd buy a Kia too. Some further thoughts: I've found Fuel consumption, especially on highway is far better in the Stinger. Road noise is also a lot quieter. They've gone to the trouble of adding sound damping material behind many of the inside trim panels. They could've easily cheaped out there. Adjustable drive modes/suspension is also great. The old XR6 gearing always wanted to take off. In Stinger ECO/Comport modes it's somewhat more sensible until put in to Sport mode. Performance aside, new Radar Cruise is amazing. So is LED Headlights, and then something as trivial as a power tailgate to automatically open when both hands are full. Infotainment system & factory stereo is lightyears ahead. Air conditioning is also way better than the FG (which seemed much worse than my previous BA). Heated & COOLED seats is also something I'll never live without now. The Stinger hatchback tailgate is really practical too. Not having a sedan parcel shelf is extremely handy for transporting larger items home. But the back window is painfully narrow. The 360 camera view helps (and you can drive with the reverse camera on) - but you've really got to be watching out for anyone sneaking up behind you. Stinger is also 10cm lower overall than the FG - which at times can make it slightly annoying to get in & out of as the seats are lower - especially if you are parked on a hill. But the front spoiler doesn't scrape on most carpark blocks. End of the day - Would I buy another one? Yes.
thanks for your owner feedback thats great to hear! im with you on this if you want a NEW car with Warranty.. the Stinger is the closest thing to a modern falcon.. n i do really like the car.. would love to spend a few weeks with one to really get the cars vibe. but since driving this one twice the car seems very very good
I think the barra will always be a couple steps ahead due to the extra engine capacity and being a straight six a simpler design to modify etc. I personally think people scoff at the kia because the falcon has been around for so long with a lot of racing history, mad max lol etc its like the spotlight has been on the falcon for so long and then the new kid on the block came along and tried to steal the lime light, and everyone's like you gotta earn it kid. Will be interesting to see how long the kia stays around and if it can prove itself on the road and track.
100% they gotta earn the reputation! spot on m8.. people are afraid to spend 60k on a untrusted performance brand even if they like the look n sound of it.. will be interesting to see how kia plays their hand and see if the stinger last with some big kms put on it
100% the falcon doesn't try as hard and just has so much more character to it.. the Stinger does feel almost like its trying to hard n the drive is much less fulfilling.. still a great car tho
I own a g6e turbo and absolutely love it just because of the engine the power and noises it makes but the quality apart the engine is the worst i never saw a car made out of this cheap stuff it has no tech at all and everything will break on you thats why if i had a chance i would go stinger 100%
i gotta agree ford really knew how to make a great engine and pair it with a good box.. but the rest of the car is pretty average lol thats why we get the term Fixed Or Repaired Daily.. lol still love it tho
Really? I've had mine for 8 years now, and it's 11 years old - it's had a few minor things break - I had to have the headliner re-covered as it sagged (as all cars do these days) - took me an hour to remove and install, and $200NZD for the upholsterers work, I had to get a new drivers door switch module - which was something like $100 delivered and took me 5 minutes to swap out - I had to have my drivers seat repaired - about half an hour of my time, and $360 NZD for the repairs. The power steering pressure switch failed - $45 for a new one and 15 minutes to replace - the center diff bush failed - that was a big one as I didn't do it myself as didn't have access to a hoist - I think it was about $1800 including replacing all the other bushes. Replaced all the shocks, which was something like $600 and a Sunday afternoon, not including the cost of beer, Oh and most recently one of the rear toe links flogged out - which was $160 and half an hour to replace. Replaced the water pump, trans cooler and radiator because I was paranoid they'd fail - $500 and a Saturday's work. Probably one or two other minor things I've forgotten about. Given it's done 210,000km now, really can't complain about any of that - any car you've had that long and driven that much is going to be similar - many far worse. Everything else I've spent has been to improve the car. Also they are for the most part, super, super easy to work on. Tech I would say was actually excellent back in 2008 - Ford didn't do much to update it over the years though.
Nice one , thanks for the comparison ! Yeah agree it is the best next thing and a direction of car making that should be supported or same deal as the falcon be no more .
Fantastic comparison! I used to own 3 commodores of different generations and drove XR6T a lot in past. But TBH I really prefer Stinger more. The modern performance car is not a just power+torque, handling, steering, body dynamics, suspension are equally important. Stinger does way far better. Without seeing KIA badge you feel you're driving a BMW. But my next car could be i30N, M2 competition or new Golf R.
thanks mate.. glad you enjoyed the comparison,, i really do like the stinger n i give kia a lot of credit for making a car like this in such a difficult market.. cant go wrong with any of the cars you listed either.. tho id go M2 or I30N.. golf felt a bit flat when i reviewed it
Hey Johnny, was looking forward to this & it didn't disappoint lol,my favourite of the year so far,I like the Stinger but I think the problem is we Aussies don't like to change from the things that we know so well & love, like Ford & Holden cars are virtually in our DNA especially blokes in their mid 40's like me & older growing up in the 80's in the western suburbs of Sydney, good old Chester Hill "Cheso" the Wild West,I could tell you some great stories which you'd find hard to believe mate but we had fun never hurt anyone well maybe but didn't kill anyone that's for sure haha, for me & every guy I knew there was only ever Fords or Holdens & not much else, you sit in them & feel like you're home,I know eventually the trend will have to change because our car industry is finished which is hard to f#% believe, but it's going to take a long time,a fantastic review as always & take care buddy.
totally get that pete.. its like home in a Falcon or Commodore.. most enthusiast dont wanna give that up.. change is always hard.. glad you enjoyed this one m8
I loved the FG XR6Turbo I had (in manual), main issues I had was: brakes (stunk after country road overtakes and started to fade) and it would surprise you(oversteer) at times. If I kept the car, the first thing I would have done was get the 6 pots from the F6. Got 10.2l/100km average and got a 8.9 from Melbourne to Mt Gambier. Enjoyed the 100000 km I put on her. You could get all the luxuries of the G6E when ordering new. The Kia at least sorted the brake issue out.
Those headlight top colour paint lines transformed the look of th FG. Now I know how to make an FG look good, & dare i say it, maybe better than a FGX.
@@adamjames2598 im not really sold on the headlight eyelid scene. Can't really say that ive seen any car that suits them (for my taste anyways). But then again, i am a weirdo. 👍
@@RypienGT No mate each to their own. You may be wierd however I too do consider the headlight eyelid as thing as wrong. I Have nerver considered the FG as goog looking. Those eyelid treatments to th FG however have made that car look better than factory & en pointe. Simple fix.
I'd go for the Barra, because it's just unbreakable. I'm not sure how long the V6 would handle the strain. Actually, that's why I don't have a Commodore ute, which is much prettier than my XR6.
One's just a car. The other's now a car and an investment. We'll probably never see another Aussie built car, built specifically for Aussie roads in our lifetimes. Snap them up while you can.
Snap it up for what price bud. The best thing about the Kia is it’s price to match euro cars but nearly half the price. You stinger haters have no dirt to find on the stinger so you take the positives of them and twist them into a negative

My fav kind of car is a sporty saloon. Here in uk we didn't get the falcon. This is a shame, I think it would have sold well. I hired one years ago, during an aussie holiday , an xr 4.0 , and really enjoyed it. It suited the roads in Queens land and nsw. Here in scotland I've got a passat r36 saloon, which I've had for about 6 years. I think there's a fewdown under but it's very rare here. Never seen another in fact. I could see it working well in australia. Its been good for snow and rain here. Fuel prices are spoiling the fun here. It was half the price before in aus, not sure now. Enjoyed the vid!
Put a few grand in the G6ET for 1000cc injectors, uprated intercooler, high flow cat and a tune and tell me which one you want. Most Stinger tuning packages max out at 330ish Kw's whereas the potential for the Ford is so much more.
oh 100% the falcon has way more potential.. but i was surprised to learn the kia can easily achieve 320+kw form basic bolt ons and tune... which is comparable to a falcon with similar mods
The LSD setup is similar in the Holdens SS and even Sv6 get an LSD but not the Calias as it is considered the luxury model so no LSD sounds like ford have done the same.
I'd have a Stinger to go with my FGII XR6. The reason why Ford and Holden shut shop was because bugger all people were buying them and if the cops use the Kia now, then they must be a pretty good car. I don't give a bugger who the manufacturer is, if it's rear wheel drive with some decent horsepower, who cares?.
great attitude man! id love to have a stinger as a daily and my F6 for the weekends! the stinger is great! loaded with features and comfort.. and still goes just as hard as a stock falcon
I look at the Kia and I can’t believe people would choose the g6et over it. The XR interior is just crap, the steering wheel is a joke, the diff, even the bloody windows working can be an issue. Put a bloody Barra in the Kia 😂 best of both worlds. I plan my next car to be a nice G6e turbo, they are cheap and great power easy but if a Stinger is close in price (which it’s not) I’d definitely go for that. Love the Comparison video!!! Now PLEASE do some modded Holden v8s vs modded xr6 turbos and xr8 comparison.
@@lukesm5747 haha true I was very tired writing this but that is quite embarrassing. At least all the ford stuff was spot on though right? 😉. In defence to my poor spelling I’ll let you in a wee secret. I’ve written two books and currently working a third, I’ve been awful at spelling my hole life luckily I have an editor to sort out my trash. For the actual topic at hand are you going to debate against what I’ve said or just point out a few flaws?? Come on, how was the G6e turbo a better choice? And don’t get me wrong I love the G6e turbo but these two aren’t even in the same ball park. I could get a G6et for 15-20k and the stinger 40-60k looking at this video shows why it’s value is far higher (my opinion anyway).
I love the stinger and holding out for the 2nd generation because I think it failed in sales for the following reasons: * heated/cooling seats option is only available in the $65k top of the line model when it's an option for any model cheap Camry saving you alot of money. *interior plastic noise due to poor assembly or cheap materials. *rear seats are a mission with baby seats due to roof height. * You got a reverse camera for parking thank god for that because the rear window is so tiny it blocks most of your vision when driving its basicly pointless having a rear window.
I must be the lucky one as I have had a rattle or squeak in my Stinger GT and I have had it for the past year. Not sure what is cheap about the materials.
I have 2019 Stinger, totally stock and just about to hit 50k. Amazing car to drive and definitely gets a lot of attention. My wife also has a 2015 KIA Optima platinum which is an exceptional car. I know people are brand snobs but the stinger is not the first quality build for KIA and was not designed to complete with the Old Australian Falcon and Commodore but more against the high priced euros (literally half the price of anything comparable) as you mention. With 7 year warranty and choice of drive mode at the flick of a switch I can definitely recommend. Interesting that the 0-100 time was less than mine. I just wonder if mods sometimes slow cars down. Great video. Thanks.
thanks for your owner feedback! i agree the Kia Stinger is outstanding and as a euro competitor its a total bargain.. i might have not had enough revs on the launch?
Hi John, Totally agree with you comments about the Stinger. I love mine. I had a Cerato GT before the Stinger and that too was a great car. I looked at the German equivalents of the Stinger before mine and could not justify paying almost twice the price for a badge. The quality of the Stinger is fantastic. There are lots of clips where the stock Stinger GT has done the 0-100 in 4.2 seconds. I believe that as I have pushed it at times and it is a rocket.
@@stephenluxa1923 nice work mate they are solid performers! very impressed with kias first attempt at a sports sedan.. lets hope they keep at it and bring us more

I’m wondering what you did wrong with the Stinger launch. I’ve never clocked over 5 seconds in my 2020 Stinger. And the best I’ve got so far has been 4.7! Don’t know what you did to get 5.22.

Made in Australia 🇦🇺 with Aussie technology simple power that will out last the Stinger, the Falcon FG G6ET is Australian luxury l have both a Falcon FG XR6T & FG G6ET the last vehicles l will ever own both very different feel when driving. My brother has the SS HOLDEN Wagon he loves it they are well appointed but l still feel more comfort in the G6ET, the typical Aussie rival to the Falcon vs Holden but the percentage of the FORD Falcon was much higher with parts made in Australia 🇦🇺 the Barra designed built in Australia 🇦🇺 the original Falcons 6 cylinder came with the USA 🇺🇸 FORD Falcon 6 then improved on but fully designed & made in Australia 🇦🇺. The problem now in Australia 🇦🇺 all vehicles are fully imported with no dealers that can actually repair them as they are now called technicians not a mechanic far to much electronics that nobody really knows how to fix great when new but when the warranty runs out watch out the cost to take to a dealership us not what it was with HOLDEN & FORD home grown vehicles you could take either anywhere to fix.
Been watching a few of your videos lately mate as you can probably tell and I have to say, for me, this is the best one I've stumbled on so far.. Kia really got their shit together and came up with just the sort of car that we want which is a fast front engined rear drive 4 door sedan that isn't all that far out of reach for the average joe, even if it's not locally built it's so similar to the Commodores and falcons in alot of ways.. never driven or even been in one but I have a soft spot for these now that we've lost our home grown Aussie performance sedans - imagine Kia making a ute version of these they'd make a fortune I reckon
Thanks James! Appreciate the kind words.. the stinger is really good.. they gave a proper go at a turbo 4 door that was affordable and fun to drive.. I applaud them
@@scrapmetalgarage Thanks for your comparison! I would however like a little more facts and figures. I am a barra owner, but the RB motors are legendry
Barra is way better, the RB30 is hella old, and the barra makes way more power than those (up to 150kw on rb30, up to 325kw on the barra depending on what car you go with), and probably way more reliable too
The stinger is so underrated! It's such a great car and I love that kia brought it to Australia. If I could have one in my collection next to my 09 g6et I would.... I fact I might just do that
Probably because, unless you live in a cold climate that requires AWD (ie. not Australia), the RWD is better in every way. Lighter, better handling, comes with a mechanical LSD, and is a lot faster. There are plenty of comparisons on RUclips to dispel any illusions.
Be interesting to see the sales if they start racing the stinger, bought the stinger myself love it, re badged it , the number of comments I get amazing, the look on there face when I tell them it's a KIA priceless. Badge snobs need to take a red pill.
Right on! and yes very valid point!! the car looks 1000% better than any other kia i've seen so people would not recognize what it is if debadged.. def need the red pill
David, I believe I read that Kia are considering racing the Stinger. I hope they do as I think a worked Stinger would be a great sight to see on a track. Totally agree about comments from people. I get asked all the time about mine. Love it to death.
Spot on about both cars dude ones trying to keep up with the big boys that are still way out of its league,, and the other could not give a fuck about em..
thats what it feels like the stinger is much more of a try hard car.. BUT its no a bad thing just depends on what's more important to you.. modifications, long term reliability, easy to work on yourself... or do you want a new car full of tech and luxury that still performs well stock.. both 100% great cars but ill keep the F6 for now :)
I’m a Ford guy all the way and would buy the Ford over the Kia any day however! If I was wanting a new car , the falcon isn’t an option so what would someone buy who would have bought a new falcon ? 🤷♂️
@@fordbloke4790 yeah I get watch you mean. What if you tried to find a very low kilometres Falcon FG-X? I reckon you could find falcons like that in almost new condition to this day.
Ford is also guilty of non functioning bonnet vents Remember the el xr8 with the glue on ones I think the diff thing is because the G6E is the luxury model not a sports model
Looks like the Kia is lower geared. Similar weight but less torque and faster claimed 0-100. Plus the Kia is in third gear to hit 100 while the Ford is in second gear. Also the Kia was stalled up at 2000rpm at launch unlike the Ford test. In any case, it's the Aussie car for me.
yes the kia had launch control so was an advantage.. the kia having the 8 speed it goes through the gears faster so seems right it would have been in 3rd at 100.. was very surprised they got the same time lol both great cars
@@RossReviewsau Thanks for the reply, Ross. What I mean is you can also stall up the Falcon to 2000rpm and lower the diff gears to get slingshot acceleration. It's just such a shame that we don't make big, powerful, rear wheel drive, affordable, four door Aussie cars any more. I myself, might be driving a used Kia Stinger in a few years from now.
The fact that a now 13 year old generation of car (FG) is still a benchmark for a premium sedan today is the greatest compliment to the Ford Australia team. Love your work Ross.
it really is a testament eh! the falcon is still a great benchmark to compete with!
My Stinger had performance close to a Ferrari 328 bone stock.
@@intrinsicimagery I think Kia definitely under-rate the performance - my G6E-T is dynoed at just under 400rwhp, I was surprised I didn't gap the Stinger GT as much as I thought I would. Probably the more sophisticated transmission?
@@Beer_Dad1975 maybe. I wish Kia had put in a DCT.
True, just getting so expensive especially here in NZ
The G6E's just look so nice though, and let's not forget the Barra i6 engine will outlive the v6. Everyone seems to forget the i6 is the most perfectly balanced engine format. With that comes reliability and simplicity.
i agree man loved the look of this G6 and the barra needs no explanation it's simply the best bang for buck..
Kia is a new horse in the corral, more bang for your buck!! By by Barra lol
Personally I'd still go with the G6ET, mainly because I prefer the sound of Inline 6's over V6's. I still like the Stinger, but I'd still go old school Barra
the sound was simply all barra eh
100% dont knock it till you try it
I think its just the fact that its budget power.
I converted from Aussie muscle cars to Bmw turbo inline 6s.....people who reckon bmws are unreliable haven’t owned many Aussie cars 😂
@@paulsimpson8990 ahhh, a Holden cruise isn't a muscle car and is a vauxhall import😂😂
Think the stingers are a great car but still would be going out and buying a G6E first
yeh i think i gotta agree with ya.. i still love the stinger but its def not as special feeling after driving back to back..
Falcons have an Australian history, and their a “drivers” car which is why I think we hold them so close, the simplicity of a car that essentially only has music and aircon makes you (in my mind) pay more attention to the road - the car isn’t begging to be looked at and used besides the direction you point it
agreed there is a better connection to the car and driver with less tech i always feel
That’s doing anything to make your head justify your preference over that car. Saying it has a better interior and functional interior components is a bad thing?? Right. Have you taken account that stingers mostly would have very little kilometres unless a 2017 model. Good luck finding a g6e with low k’s similar price to a stinger
I like it when you give a little chuckle when doing the highway pulls. Love to see the speedo at that time too😁
🤙
haha i wanted to keep my licence tho🤣🚓
I've owned a G6ET for about 5 years and have been driving a Stinger for 18 months now. 2 best cards I have owned
thats awesome! both better at different things eh.. but nonetheless both epic sport sedans i say
I'm in the UK 70 years old got a stinger 3.3 V6 twin turbo and just love this thing.
Great comparison mate - you've come a long way, been here since under 1k subs - good stuff!
Much appreciated! glad you have stuck around all this time to see the channel grow :)
Barra Torque MONSTER ! 👍👌
they really are😈
The Stinger is a nice car for sure.
Give me the clean lines and simplicity of the G6ET anyday!
spot on m8.. the character and charm of the falcon is just not seen anymore in more modern cars
GO Ford
The cream G6E just feels sooo special and a great place to be.
Right on m8.. its the personalities that i noticed the most from this comparison
i just bought a MK2 with the cream leather with low kms at a great price! It's NA though haha
@@Born2Punch doesnt matter mate even the n.a goes hard, keep that interior in A1 condition 🙂
@@FocusRS500 it does man! especially from coming from driving 2.4 litre engines lol. Will do mate. Just a shame it guzzles fuel, says its doing 17.4 (all city driving)
That is a BEAUTIFUL G6ET spec - that interior colour scheme is awesome (I have all black in mine, but the cream 2-tone is epic).
i LOVE the cream interior :) was seriously a gem of a G6E
As a Falcon owner I agree with you that Australians like sleepers with no bling
100%
Why on earth would a turbo version not get a factory LSD?
Here you go, have some power that you can't use. Enjoy.
Yep. Unfortunate, but it is the luxury model, not sport
@@IC3XR I thought it was a blend of the two. Since when is it not a luxury to run a limo.
I read another comment, its because then no one would buy the XR6T, which had a factory LSD, so you have to get some disadvantages somewhere
Yep is the luxury model. The Fairmont Ghia. Only auto option aswell. They kept the lsd and manuals for the sportier xr6s.
Weirdly though, in all the Wheels magazine testing, the G6E was the quickest non FPV Falcon until the FGX !!
My mate has a stinger and I have the mk2 G6ET I love my barra
Who wins lol ?
both great cars
I'm pretty sure the barra is a much more heavy duty engine and much better when adding modifications.
oh it is without question.. but i was blown away to learn with bolt ons and a flash tune it makes similar numbers to a barra with same mods!
@@RossReviewsau imagine if the FG had launch control and 8 gears....Goodnite kia haha
@Catholic Firefighter The point is the kia isn't all that great considering it has 8 gears vs 6...haaa
@yzf2008r6 the falcons only have 4 usable gears when racing.. don't know about the kia lol
@@Cava23 yea I found that odd that the FG 6 speed reaches top speed in 5th?
people can't buy them because they're too expensive mate.
And atleast a stinger isnt some crossover suv.
glad you can see the change also.. they are starting to make some insanely nice cars, very soon kia will be popular i think

for a new fun affordable sedan! the Stinger is just the best! glad your enjoying it!
100% my favourite car review show👌
Wow, thanks! so glad your enjoying the channel
Thanks mate, nice comparison. Didnt think how similar these 2 are...well done
glad i could inform you .. its really surprising isn't it
I’m 19 n just bought a stinger gt 3.3L 2017, do not regret it at all absolutely love it😌
Great car
i drive a Series 1 G6ET and love it. Its been my daily for around 6 years and does not miss a beat. Comfortable, cruisy, but with a bit of poke. I do wish they had a little bit more tech and interior styling though. Just a little 😉
I do like the KIA though.
I’d happily own another Gixie though!
its a great car 100% i still find my self smiling more in the falcon.. but as a daily car that does everything the Kia is outstanding
My 2020 stinger gt is a great car.
Open deck counterbalanced V6 - it's not ever going to do Barra numbers - and the Barra will probably still do more as more development is done. Don't get me wrong, it's a great engine, and I'd happily own one - but it's never going to be a 7 second car.
@@Beer_Dad1975 I wonder how many people decide on their high performance daily driver based on its ability to do 7's
Haha you know your Aussie audience fella, as a overweight bogan that wears wifebeaters n footy shorts i for one wouldn't drive a Kia even if they made a skits V8 because 1st impressions last!
yeh its a fair point.. it just doesn't speak to the true aussie car fanatics.. on paper its similar but driving it.. its trying WAY to hard to be fancy n sporty when the falcon n commodore didnt.. just felt a little less special if thats the right way to put it
Shows your ignorance
Bro you won’t see peoples impressions because they’ll be in the car behind you 100 metres back. You are a flop
Stinger made be a decade newer with fancier tech and interior but I would still take the G6e any day. Surely u do a G6et vs Calais V8 comparison soon. The true aussie competitiors :)
if the G6ET is Fords most luxurious Falcon, then then it should be vs a VF Senator not a shitbox Calais 😂
Stinger MADE be?? 😳😳 and your giving me stick about spelling🤫🤭.
@Jimmy Valentine if it was an FPV GTF it’d have to be a VF GTS not a Senator, i was just choosing the brands most luxurious vehicles lmao
@Jimmy Valentine not sure bro i’m a holden kid !
No manual option either. It was the luxury version of the Falcon.
@@frodo3468 I miss the falcon

My wife had a g6e turbo and I absolutely loved driving that thing. And so did she. She’s probably even worst then me and wouldn’t even look at the Kia, not even test drive one.

Even as a Ford man myself and love G6ET I’d take the Stinger over it based on the fact it’s a newer more refined vehicle. Fgx I might take the G6ET but Fg Mk2 definitely the Stinger. Might also be the fact I had one for a couple months as well
if your after a NEW nice vehicle with similar specs its easily the best choice.. but still hard to pass on the barra just so much charm with it
"As a ford man myself" dp and name beg to differ lol
Firstly,
Excellent video as always Ross.
was the video really quiet for anyone else though?
Thanks mate.. it might have been quiet I’ve tried to adjust audio levels since this
I went from an FG XR6 to the Stinger. The thought of driving a 'Kia' will be far less horrifying once you've actually done it. Reality is if you want a new car (warranty/etc) then the falcon/commodore isn't an option any more. 5 or 10 years ago I would've died laughing if I knew I'd buy a Kia too.
Some further thoughts:
I've found Fuel consumption, especially on highway is far better in the Stinger.
Yes.
thanks for your owner feedback thats great to hear! im with you on this if you want a NEW car with Warranty.. the Stinger is the closest thing to a modern falcon.. n i do really like the car..
would love to spend a few weeks with one to really get the cars vibe. but since driving this one twice the car seems very very good
Excellent comments. I find it hard to fault and I love mine
Good review wanted to see this happen ! 👍👌
Glad you liked it
I think the barra will always be a couple steps ahead due to the extra engine capacity and being a straight six a simpler design to modify etc.
100% they gotta earn the reputation! spot on m8.. people are afraid to spend 60k on a untrusted performance brand even if they like the look n sound of it.. will be interesting to see how kia plays their hand and see if the stinger last with some big kms put on it
The G6E tries so much less, and accomplishes so much more.
Stingers are great, but not on the same level as the Falcon
100% the falcon doesn't try as hard and just has so much more character to it.. the Stinger does feel almost like its trying to hard n the drive is much less fulfilling.. still a great car tho
@@RossReviewsau hard agree. The stingers have a lot of guts for their worth, and it’s great to see Kia break into the sports market!
I own a g6e turbo and absolutely love it just because of the engine the power and noises it makes but the quality apart the engine is the worst i never saw a car made out of this cheap stuff it has no tech at all and everything will break on you thats why if i had a chance i would go stinger 100%
i gotta agree ford really knew how to make a great engine and pair it with a good box.. but the rest of the car is pretty average lol thats why we get the term
Fixed
Or
Repaired
Daily..
lol still love it tho
The key start up for the G6E sounds awsome
its a great sounding car! and that DOSE!
I just cant get on board with the Stinger. But i get it. A fast 4 door car to fill the void after Holden and ford closed..
yeh its the same on paper but driving them back to back you can see there is something majorly missing :( still a great car tho
Nice one , thanks for the comparison ! Yeah agree it is the best next thing and a direction of car making that should be supported or same deal as the falcon be no more .
Couldn't agree more cheers :)
Not my fave looking falcon but would still take the old girl over the stinger, one of my fave vids yet cheeers
glad you enjoyed this one! that G6E was something else i reckon
But my next car could be i30N, M2 competition or new Golf R.
thanks mate.. glad you enjoyed the comparison,, i really do like the stinger n i give kia a lot of credit for making a car like this in such a difficult market.. cant go wrong with any of the cars you listed either.. tho id go M2 or I30N.. golf felt a bit flat when i reviewed it
You can't compare those 3 cars. It's the BMW by a country mile.
The Kia at least sorted the brake issue out.
yes brakes are a big issue with ford unless your running the FPVs.. great cars tho. Kia was smart to put factory brembos on the GT
Probably the biggest difference is the resale value.. in 10 years time that g6e will be worth twice what the Kia will be worth
speculation but thats what i would assume
If it hasn’t fallen apart by then
If it’s stored in the garage maybe
Those headlight top colour paint lines transformed the look of th FG. Now I know how to make an FG look good, & dare i say it, maybe better than a FGX.
im the opposite. i think i puked a little in my mouth.
@@RypienGT i don't agree with the concept, however I've seen the same treatment on a VZ. This FG came ouut favorably.
Simple fix.
In my personal opinion, the FG looks way better than the FGX, the FGX looks like a Falcon mixed with a Mondeo/Fusion
G6ET WITHOUT A DOUBT !
The best
I'd go for the Barra, because it's just unbreakable. I'm not sure how long the V6 would handle the strain. Actually, that's why I don't have a Commodore ute, which is much prettier than my XR6.
thats the best thing is the engine reliability is proven and unmatched.. will be interesting to see how the kia goes tho as time continues
Filmed locally in Ascot, love the vid👌

One's just a car.
The other's now a car and an investment.
We'll probably never see another Aussie built car, built specifically for Aussie roads in our lifetimes.
Snap them up while you can.
agreed everyone should keep on to what they have and try in get one ASAP because they will only become more rare and more $$$
Snap it up for what price bud. The best thing about the Kia is it’s price to match euro cars but nearly half the price. You stinger haters have no dirt to find on the stinger so you take the positives of them and twist them into a negative
@@jademanuella3986 It's a Kia.

Ross you are right. Im 36 years old and just bought an fgx xr8 with 40000km on the clock. I didnt even think kia stinger. I had xr6t in the past but i still love my v8. I still have a 2010 maloo ve, ed xr6 manual and a turbo ef wagon. I drive a 2022 hilux rogue to work everyday. Im one of those people that make good coins. I just never think European cars or at least kia. Sticking to what i know and love.
I've seen that falcon. I never would have known. Amazing
such a nice G6E!

Traded my 2019 GT Mustang Premium for a 2020 Kia Stinger GT2 AWD. I'm in fuckin love with this car. No regrets...
It’s really good I should do a mustang vs stinger episode 😅👌
I own an 08 G6ET and i will never get rid of it
smart man!
There is a stinger in NSW that's already beating hsv and falcons.both are only hotted up family barges.the stinger is the under card fighter to watch
I really admire the Stinger and am so glad Kia made it. And yet still I think for that money I'd get a used M340i sedan.
love that kia made it, would be interesting to do a comparison on a M340i maybe then
My fav kind of car is a sporty saloon.
I wouldn’t be re-tuning a factory tune for 54 kws. Cars are engineered that way for a reason
The LSD setup is similar in the Holdens SS and even Sv6 get an LSD but not the Calias as it is considered the luxury model so no LSD sounds like ford have done the same.
yeh few people have said this.. still tho kinda makes no sense but wherever they can save money they will
@@RossReviewsau Sv6s dont have an LSD lol
Good review!
I like both cars, but I would choose the Stinger, 7 year warranty, good tech and more than enough power standard!
Fair enough! that 7 year warranty is very very nice to have and stock its still got more than enough power to have fun
I'd love to see you test a Kia Optima GT, competes with Camry, Accord, Mazda 6 etc, but pretty sure it has the motor from an i30N.
Challenge accepted will keep an eye out sounds cool
I look at the Kia and I can’t believe people would choose the g6et over it. The XR interior is just crap, the steering wheel is a joke, the diff, even the bloody windows working can be an issue. Put a bloody Barra in the Kia 😂 best of both worlds. I plan my next car to be a nice G6e turbo, they are cheap and great power easy but if a Stinger is close in price (which it’s not) I’d definitely go for that.
Love the Comparison video!!! Now PLEASE do some modded Holden v8s vs modded xr6 turbos and xr8 comparison.
Your first problem is that this isnt an "XR".
got some V8 vids on the way next :)
@@lukesm5747 true! What’s my second problem? 😁
@@samthestoryman3757 The inability to spell basic words like "steering".
I love the stinger and holding out for the 2nd generation because I think it failed in sales for the following reasons:
* heated/cooling seats option is only available in the $65k top of the line model when it's an option for any model cheap Camry saving you alot of money.
*interior plastic noise due to poor assembly or cheap materials.
*rear seats are a mission with baby seats due to roof height.
* You got a reverse camera for parking thank god for that because the rear window is so tiny it blocks most of your vision when driving its basicly pointless having a rear window.
agreed there are still a lot of teething problems
I must be the lucky one as I have had a rattle or squeak in my Stinger GT and I have had it for the past year. Not sure what is cheap about the materials.
@@stephenluxa1923 yeh i wouldn't say the interior is cheap feeling at all
I have 2019 Stinger, totally stock and just about to hit 50k.

Thanks mate glad you are enjoying the channel.. and yes the V8 crown majesta is no joke considering it’s size! That 8speed is great👌
I’m wondering what you did wrong with the Stinger launch. I’ve never clocked over 5 seconds in my 2020 Stinger. And the best I’ve got so far has been 4.7! Don’t know what you did to get 5.22.

Glad you enjoyed it.. oh man how i wish i could have access to a track lol.. still just a 1 man show trying to do my best.. n yes ford looks meaner and sounds meaner
I applaud them
f@ucking oath mate...a ute would take over the market/the million $ idea
The stinger is a much sexier car. I love the stingers. And the interior is just next level
agree with the interior 100% i still like the look outside but there are some awkward angles.. all up fantastic car
How about comparing the Barra with a RB30?
Ok, barra is better. Comparison done 🤣👍
@@scrapmetalgarage Thanks for your comparison! I would however like a little more facts and figures. I am a barra owner, but the RB motors are legendry
Barra is way better, the RB30 is hella old, and the barra makes way more power than those (up to 150kw on rb30, up to 325kw on the barra depending on what car you go with), and probably way more reliable too
good idea might do this cheers
The stinger is so underrated! It's such a great car and I love that kia brought it to Australia. If I could have one in my collection next to my 09 g6et I would.... I fact I might just do that

Hey Kia Australia why as per usual doesn't Australia get the proper GT with AWD even for the 2021 model?
this is true... only RWD here
Probably because, unless you live in a cold climate that requires AWD (ie. not Australia), the RWD is better in every way. Lighter, better handling, comes with a mechanical LSD, and is a lot faster. There are plenty of comparisons on RUclips to dispel any illusions.
And you want that shit for what reason?

The thing that kills the stingers lookswise for me are the rear pillars.
yeh they really suck.. this one the owner covered them with a sticker so looks better but still weird
simply put a barra turbo into the stinger .. with the 8 speed auto .. and you got one hell of a weapon i would happily own
That would be fantastic eh
