    How does sertraline intake affect the success of an implant when taken for about a couple of years at the time of surgery?

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  3 года назад +3

      The issue with some of these types of medication is impact on the central nervous system (CNS) and grinding or clenching, and also possible dry mouth issues (decay on natural teeth). I don't know of any research papers on the direct effect of increase implant complications related to serotonin reuptake inhibitors. In our experience, if you can control the grinding and clenching (with night guards0 then success rates are excellent.

    Hello 👋
    I have a question I recently got 8 ultratooth implants put in. 4 on top and 4 on the bottom. Two separate surgeries. Since getting my 4 implants on top 11 days ago I've had earaches and occasional headaches. What could be the cause? It's got me worried to say the least.

    I just got a denture implant, I know no one that has ever had them, I found my dentist on a TV Ad making it all sound so simple and no problem, but after seeing some videos now I am terrified! Had I watched the videos I have seen today I may never have gotten them. The dentures feel like they do not match up like they are suppose to and where the denture comes down between the gum and inner mouth feels too tight and painful, severe head ache I was trying to find info if it was normal to have that right after the surgery.

I prefer wearing them over not at this point and I have relatives that would rather not wear their lower dentures at all but they dont want to go in public with out them and cant wait to take them off thats with no implants, they say they move around a lot but mine stay put with the implants.

    Which dental implant should I opt for Nobel or Dentium?

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  4 года назад +3

      Nobel Biocare has the most research and scientific papers - they are the original dental implant. However the most important factor is the experience of the clinician. All implant have their own design and surface and I believe all are very similar so consider the clinician's experience and recommendation. Also it's dependant on the type of treatment too as some brands are more ideal of different applications. Hope this helps.

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth

      I would suggest a full medical and discussion with your medical doctor before considering treatment. Delayed loading is possible where the implants are buried under the gum and left for 4- 6 months to fully heal and then the bridges/crowns placed. Long-term success is critical so we must sometimes modify treatment times according to medical conditions.

    50yo. My natural front teeth are in good shape and look good.but my back teeth have had a lot of work and are starting to fail. I already have a titanium implant in #18 put in 5y ago. Been told i have plenty of bone for implants. Thinking ahead. If im looking at some root canal and crown work now, should i opt for more implants instead and will they be able to use those to anchor multiple back teeth later on? In theory would 2 implants in the back of one side be able to support everything behind a canine on the same side?

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  4 года назад

      I feel this is down to longevity and predictably of the treatment. If the tooth has at least 40-50% of crown structure intact the longevity (after root canal treatment and porcelain crowning) is generally great. The less natural tooth, the shorter the longevity e.g. 80-90% restoration/porcelain, the greater the chance of crown failure. There is also the question of root canal morphology that could compromise the root canal treatment and lead to re-infection, root fracture, etc which compromises the roots and thus the crown. Discuss this with your dentist or endodontist. Ask about longevity and risk of tooth lost after treatment. Hope this helps.

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  4 года назад +1

      Lisping can be due to the shape or the thickness of the crowns or the length of teeth. Temporary crowns before the final porcelain can help diagnosis the issue and generally this can be fixed with reshaping of the teeth.

Usually we can turn cosmetic cases around in as little as 10 days from consult to final smile and all-on-4 2 weeks from initial consult, surgery, right through to a new set of teeth :-)

    Great video! Thank you! I just had my first implant (system: Dentsply Sirona Astra Tech) installed last week to replace tooth #19. Since it is posterior, and thus not very visible, I was inclined to request the dentist put in a highly noble full alloy gold crown when he prepares the custom abutment, after I wait 3 months for healing. But I know zirconia is very popular here in the US. My surrounding teeth are healthy as is the opposing tooth. It is longevity and protection of neighboring teeth I'm mostly after. Should I push the dentist for the gold crown even if he tries to dissuade me and recommend a zirconia one? Or maybe both options are equally good? The gold crown shouldn't cost ME any more due to insurance but I suppose it might cost the dentist more.

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  3 года назад +1

      Hi Dan - dentists have preferences on the abutment type and crown material for best longevity. A cemented gold crown is possible and I would discuss this with your dentist. The issue may be the bonding between the abutment and gold crown as the weak link.

    • @dwtubeyou
      @dwtubeyou 3 года назад

      @@advanceddentalartistryperth Thanks! Zirconia seems to be the trend here, partly because insurance companies do not compensate dentists for the higher prices of gold alloy. So I will ask about gold but I will wager the dentist will try to dissuade me.
      Do you think that most seasoned general dentists can do a great job on the abutment and crown steps even if the oral surgeon put in an implant from a (major) manufacturer which isn’t that dentist’s usual requested one? If they need to borrow tools, for example, from the oral surgeon, is that a concern?

      @@dwtubeyou Hey there, I work in the implant design industry. Now I'm not a doctor or professional, I just make the teeth but this is my advice. Zirconia is typically the go to because of how strong and biocompatible it is. Failure of an implant typically never happens with the crown but rather the implant system and the dentist who places it. Talk with your doctor and see why he recommends the zirconia. If you like the aesthetics of a gold crown, that's totally reasonable and you should voice that! Aesthetics are a huge part of dental implant and crown design.

    Why would a dentist drill a hole into the top of my crown on my front tooth along the gumline..? I had this thing 10 years no problems and my heart is broken. I came in for a filling that popped out and she broke the camel’s back- I was prepared to die from this hole but a year later the pain almost had me screaming. I had to go back. 2 X-rays vs 30. I feel somewhat better but I’m expecting serious problems soon. It’s a shame too because I don’t even know what this is- jus that the it was an “archaic method.”

      Fahima - 19yo is quite young for an implant as the jaw is still growing and changing. The colour issue could be the bone thinning in front of the implant. Yes implants should last a lifetime however there are two issues - 1. the integration of the implant to the bone should last a lifetime if the patient adheres to ideal oral hygiene and 2. The cosmetic look of the tooth which is more a personal opinion and if you are not happy could mean that even though the implant in the bone is stable, it's a "cosmetic failure". I would consider to discuss your concerns with your dentist and if you are still not happy, another option may be required. Hope this helps
