- Hey, just a quick news video regarding what's happening with #BATTLETECH in regards to miniature releases.
Also, I'm giving a channel update as well. Because well, there won't be video updates for several weeks, and I'm going to go over why.
Live streams should still continue with some frequency. But uhhh, it's hard to do videos while traveling.

I have never had an Issue getting an urbie to fly. Its a simple process really. Have an atlas pick up the urbie, hot load said urbie into the muzzel of the HGR of a Fafnir and let her rip. Clan elementals also work in the same fashion, it just takes 3 elementals to equal one urbie in throw weight.

Thanks for mincing your words. As a LAM fan, I'm very appreciative that such a big BT persona voiced very valid LAM critique, without completely dumpstering on the whole concept.
My life wouldn't have ended if you were a bit more harsh, but the little head nod to us LAMlovers warms my center torso.
I mean, I'm really not a fan, and I don't think they fit in the setting at all, narratively or on the tabletop, but some people love them. They're just not really reflective of Battletech and how its depicted.

Everything I have heard about the rules for LAMs has scared me off from getting into them. That being said, I was on the forums the other day and someone pointed out that they could possibly be something to add to Clan Snow Raven maybe in the future to give them something special and thematic to make them stand out in a way sorta symmetrical to Hell's Horses with their Quadvees.

Two things, one you mean my strategy of “Kick the Baby” using an Atlas and urbie will work, and two are they gearing up for April fools?
While I know this doesn't mean we are getting the others - I really do hope that they do a LAM box set - either as a 3 model box for each type (eg: Stinger, Stinger Guardian, Stinger LAM) or do a 6 pack of the Guardian/LAM versions of the primary 3 (Stinger, Wasp, PhoenixHawk).
I know Red loves Urbanmechs and LAMs almost as much as he loves protomechs. This is a big moment for him.

Honestly, I had a good cackle at the news. It also reminded me of Eldonious Rex's Urbie LAM artwork that fused our lovable trashcan with the aesthetic of Valkyries/Veritechs.

Speaking of podcasts as you may have contacts from a much wider audience of both battletech and 40K I would just like to put it out in the eather that I would love to listen to an Adeptus Ridiculous style battletech podcast that is loretainement/ infotainment focused, If there is some lorehound with a great radio voice who has the time and has been thinking of doing it.

I decreased my working hours from 40 to 32 hours (so less than half of your workload)
While I have less money available it was definitely the right decision. I would have finally burned out. Even if you have the best Job in the World, you only can do so much before your body and mind fail. So stepping back and reducing the workload is just wise and better for All of us in the long run.
Enjoy Schaumburg. It is a decent venue. Take plenty of pictures! Last year the Battletech banner was the biggest! The play area and booth was great 👍 Lots of other things of course, Golden Dragon awards and such. Safe travels!

For a bit more context on the LAMs not coming back, the other aspect is that Ray has also mentioned (via a recent Sarna interview) that while the whole of Aerotech has a small dedicated fanbase, it doesn't really convert to sales numbers.
To horrendously paraphrase, 'People say they like warships, dropships, etc, but when push comes to shove it never translates to broader usage'
At least to me, the urbie-LAM seems to fall into the april-fools joke-product sales numbers paradigm that has broad appeal, rather than the standard LAM-aerotech "we say we want it but never actually buy it" paradigm
Reminds me of an OLD Ghost Bear message board I used to be on as a kid in the 90's, where the head admin was obsessed with an Urbanmech Quad LAM. Of course such a thing was... difficult to make, but I think I remember him jiggering a spec sheet program to make it happen, and someone did some crude renderings of it.

Being both a Battletech and Robotech fan I was very excited for the LAM way back when they came out. After playing them on the tabletop they fairly quickly fell to the way side with my player group as they did not play well on the table top. Just didn't feel like Battletech by the time we got the rules for them.

A planet-lifter is usually sufficient to make an urbanmech fly. Indeed for strategic mobility without a drops-hip, use of a planet lifter is a legitimate tactics.

I am a LAM fan but I doubt we’ll see plastic LAMs anytime soon. It’s a business and there are so many other Mechs that would be more profitable if released in plastic.
I like the Urbanmech LAM release as the fun little thing it is.

You know the only reason this mech exists is because some grunt somewhere was like “man, if only thing destroyer of worlds could fly.” And some gov’t contractor said “hold my beer”

What got me in the door, and out of it as well, was the Macross mechs. Especially the veritech fighter. Even now, the Phoenix Hawk is my favorite mech. The CGL model is great. I also love the 3 modes of the veritech. Which works great as a mech, helio-gunship and fighter jet.
That said, I agree with those that think LAMs shouldn't really be a functional thing in Battletech. The setting has nutso technology (teleporting autoloaders), but LAMs don't need to be one. The tabletop mechs don't really give LAMs a niche that feels necessary. In all likelihood, LAMs would continue to be not worth it or bend everything around them to deal with them. Neither are great options.
that's why they are an optional rule....use em or don't use em'....same way people can pick and choose the era's and tech levels they wanna play.

I wouldn't mind seeing fixed mode mechs that were similar to the middle modes of the old LAMs, but with completely different wing and cockpit areas. After all, the wings of the old Phoenix Hawk LAM metal mini was so radically different from the Macross mech that you really couldn't say it was a Gerwalk Valkyrie - or that it could have conceivably transformed from a Phoenix Hawk.
No jet mode, no battloid mode, and preferably no similarities to the Macross designs.
To be clear, this is a design I haven't seen spoken of since the days of Dropship Command 😮

I've worked out the PERFECT way to use the LAM Urbanmech: shove them out of the dropship over the battlefield and let them land and distract the enemy Mechs, while your own forces keep fighting! And if the Urbies land in one piece, they can soak up some of the incoming fire as well!
Sigh, ...BattleTech was never really on board with all things flying. Not just LAMs but also ASFs and bigger ships.

Technically, there is s speed limit to get airborne under the LAM rules of old. Which an Urbie cannot reach. Unless it jumps off a cliff to gain enough speed to take flight. Even so I have a pair of custom made quad-Urbie LAM figures me and a couple of guys paid for. As a lark with the PUB. Palerider's Uber-urbanmech Brigade.
IMHO, Catalyst, etc. needs to find a way to make air power work in Battletech.
The world of Battletech should reflect modern combined arms, and it does, except air power (which is all-important today).

I'm a LAM loving clannie, but it is not hard to admit that they are hard to incorporate well with the setting. It very much can and has been done, but i would rather not see it made cannon as some piss poor business decision. Bring them back in once large scale space-navy combat is normalized again, where they have a niche to carve out that's useful.

I'm not up to date on the current LAM rules , but IIRC there used to be a minimum amount of hexes that a
LAM in Airmech mode must travel to stay airborne.
Under current rules is an Urbie even fast enough to do that?
Also it would be REALLY great if this flying trash can was available in the 3025 era.
Even if they have to downgrade the gun.
stat lines i've seen for it by fans give it a 3/5/5 move profile....which means when its in airmech mode its cruise is 15, and its flank speed is 23
@@fochtsnetwork I REALLY need to get all of the current/correct LAM rules and catch up on it all.
It is going to be one off until it sells well and I think we could see LAMs not as playable mech but as paint projects.
So CGL can try to attract people who like to paint minis but don't play a lot of games.
For a brief moment the thought of an Urbanmech LAM was highly concerning but it is funny.
I wouldn't mind plastics for the other ones but I do also agree that they don't entirely fit what Battletech became.
