  • What would the perfect Heavy #Battlemech look like in the #Battletech universe, if it were made in the #InnerSphere? How fast would it be? How strong would it be?
Well, wonder no longer, because the #RepublicoftheSphere, or #ROTS, has the answer to this fabled question, my #Mechwarrior friend. The #Lament is the ultimate Inner Sphere Heavy #Mech, and I will go over exactly why in the follow within.
This is the ultimate champion of the #DarkAge, at least for the Republic, so I hope you all buckle up. It's going to be a fun ride. Admittedly, there are many #Clan soldiers who didn't have a fun time fighting this thing. In fact, to go fruther, not many #DraconisCombine or #CapellanConfederation troops who did either.
    #DevlinStone #HouseKurita #HouseLiao #ClanJadeFalcon #JadeFalcon #Terra #Comstar
And on a side note. This mech is available through #IronWindMetals, links are here for its 2 models:

And i really like its straight-forward loadout, this is a very "simple" mech.
Nothing about it is fancy or exotic, this one is like a spear in a world filled with boomerangs.
Due to this it has a very sympathetic honesty about it. While not by weigth, this one IS an Assault Mech by nature.

Seeing all these Dark Age and ilClan Era designs makes me wish we'd get a game set in either period someday.
I mean, the Lament itself is a pretty awesome Mech in terms of design and philosophy. Firepower, speed, and protection, all in one package. Yeah, the non-standard parts and difficulty to maintain would be hell for the mechanics, but hey at least the MechWarrior gets to run rampant across the battlefield with a speedy Heavy Mech and rack up a ton of damage before having to get back for repairs or the MW gets killed.

Such cool mechs and using cutting edge technology just makes them so interesting. It’s too bad they are gone. Hello Red.
The Lament, the original version, is one of the best designed Mechs in the game... at least in my humble opinion. And yeah, I know the old saw: 'Opinions are like A-holes, everyone has them, and they all stink'.
But, having said that, the Lament is about as good as it gets with IS Tech. The only way to 'improve' the Mech would be to install Clan armor, engine, and weapons... and given the difficulty in obtaining that, can one really say it is an improvement?
I would gladly use this Mech 'as is'. And that, for me, is very high praise indeed.

Honestly? Every company that feels like it can reverse engineer the Lament should probably attempt it. Fantastic design. Sea Fox as a notable customer should appreciate the design enough to do their typical shenanigans and acquire the design specs and manufacturing personnel from Wolf. If that happens, it also means there would be some clan spec variants that would come out. Also this is a strong enough design that any House would be proud to field them and I really wouldn't mind if every house managed to start producing them in small quantities.

The Lament is one of those odd mechs that I love the idea of it but never really went in on. It is a shame it has non-standard parts as that will be its long-term deathknell but maybe Sea Fox and Marik can come up with something to keep the design around but with logistics and firepower in mind. It does though come off as what it really was, an IS mech designed to work like a clan mech, and the RoTS paid for that degree of sophistication and technological power.

Whoo, this white elephant of a Heavy type is a real C-bill eater. My reconstituted merc unit isn't going to be able to afford it. (When your regiment has entire lances that cost less than one Lament...) That being said, the mech delivers performance for its price, dishing out lots of damage in short order. It requires a technically savvy and patient mechwarrior as a pilot, but tht pilot will have the ability to crush a Clan Heavy under a minute's time. I feel the tactical use for a Lament or two (I can't imagine an entire lance being deployed) is for it to be the guardian of an objective, supported by guard 'mechs and conventional forces. The attacker will have to go for broke and rush the hot-running 'mech, or smash their way through the blocking forces, risking sudden death from heavy beam weapons shots. It's a Kelly's Heroes problem; how do you secure the ROTS or other force objective with that thing parked in front of it?

Nasty mech got to admire its simple design focus in being direct fire support, could see this thing melting mechs easily even accounting for those of it's age. My main point of concern as a merc is no backups 2D seems the best version, but still can't help but think about the bills you would sink into this piece of hardware. The design really only works for Republic where their primary concern was to hold down the fort, but for mercs your always on the move and often in difficult spots for supply and parts. To be honest while I like the design, if I ever got one even in factory new condition, I would just sell it for whatever I could get. Invest in a few fire support options like PPC carriers, or some direct fire support mechs, heck with how much you could get you could easily retro fit whatever you buy. Like many Republic designs they are over engineered and assume you have deep pockets, and are only useable if you don't have to pay for them.

It sounds like the Republic of the Sphere, in addition to their wonder-waffles, really needed a solid line mech. Something like the Awesome: A wall of standard armor with cheap guns and a cheap engine. The Lament is a heck of a sports car of a mech, with Endo-Steel, Light-Ferro, Radical Heat Sinks, and an XL, and the 4RC especially is like a 65-ton Direwolf with way more mobility. It out-clans Clan mechs in quality, but shares and goes above and beyond on their weaknesses. If it's hit hard or knocked out and recovered, you're likely never seeing it on the battlefield again.

There are too many mechs by the Dark Age to really make specialized mechs. They should be Omnimechs for the benefits such as cutting down on maintenance through shared parts, quick armor replacement, multiple configurations, and easy customizations.

It’s a great mech but it’s a case of trying to do too much with one machine.
Sadly I don’t see this mech surviving without serious changes as the logistics and costs problems are prohibitively crippling.
Honestly I could say this technically could also be considered a wonder weapon.
If I was a mercenary commander and I had one these in my employee this mech would be on dropship guard duty for all but the most selective of missions due to the likely bankrupting costs if the mech takes any damage.
The one thing I absolutely like with the mech is the lack of ammo based weapon systems on board.
The XL engine is an issue but the speed it gains as a result is a fair trade.
This could be a great Solaris mech as the raw firepower and limited engagements show this mechs many strengths while minimizing its weaknesses.

@@MultiKbarry I have great brawler build of 6x ER Medium Pulse Lasers (Clan), Small Cockpit with LaserAMS, ECM Suite in the head. In the right torso a MASC, and 19.5 tons of Harden Armor. Still 32 Clan DHS for 43/38 heat thanks to the Laser AMS, but its wouldn't be a problem for to long when you close range.

@@gregkun1 That’s a lot of piloting penalties but it does reasonably reach the 7 hex movement. I feel that load out would be more befitting a medium mech than a heavy.

@@MultiKbarry The harden armor only gives movement a -1 to run for base of 7. That's why I put a MASC on. That brings it back up to a Run of 9. Still one Hex more than stock.
