I loved your going to new places with Google maps example--that is exactly what I do when I have to go somewhere new. I'll even drive a test route if it's for something really important, just to see how long it takes and what the traffic is usually like so I can be sure that I'll arrive at least fifteen minutes early regardless of the suggested time in Google maps.

Im an INFJ, I got my leg chopped off when I was three, taught me you cant control everything, so... my intuition deals more in dealing with the possible alterations to any outcome, and with time Ive learned to revel in the uncertainty of our surroundings in some situations, I find it humorous when the future brings something i felt might be very unlikely into fruition, and I just concentrate my efforts into understanding the systems people rely on, ones that fail them and ones that dont so that one day I may make a difference, the rest of my existence is set aside for preparation and exaltation, I try to enjoy as much as I can, but in reality that is what I find most difficult about my existence, I appear so happy, so helpful, so polite, and inside I weep in realization of the state of my species and the world and culture they have created for themselves and wish for more than life itself, I could save them from that very thing, my eternal sorrow only eclipsed by hope. Have a good one everyone. Sorry.

INFJ here -- this is by far one of my favorite videos on typology. You have such control and precision, such a firm grasp on the concepts, and a communication style that does justice to your clearly developed Ni-Ti. I intend to begin a meditation regiment myself to learn how to surrender more to Se. In fact I'm looking into a Vipassana 10-day meditation retreat in June, which is essentially 10 days of intentional silence, waking up at 4am each day for roughly 10 hours of meditation, light vegetarian meals and insightful seminars in the evening. The meditation style is one of mindfulness of sensation awareness; I read about Ni types having crazy out-of-body experiences and epiphanies akin to escaping "Plato's Cave."
I'll probably start making some of my own videos soon after that. We should chat sometime -- I love psyche-spiritual musings and I think we could learn a lot from each other.

      Hi Reid,
Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment!
Question: What is driving you to do a 10-day meditation retreat? In my experience, it has taken many months to train my mind to adjust to the practice. I guess I'm wondering if this retreat is beginner-friendly?
To get the most out of those extended sessions, I think it'd be helpful to work from a foundation of previous knowledge/experience (or else you may be putting too much pressure on yourself to keep up with the practice). I'd recommend using the Headspace application daily until you embark on that journey.

Awesome!! I appreciate the advice. I think you're totally right, that I should practice swimming before diving in the deep end... I tend to be somewhat reckless in that regard. I actually will be taking my last final this afternoon, so I'll have a chance to experiment in my free time!
By the way, in regard to the video, I truly appreciate how you discuss the interaction between the cognitive functions as we confront concrete situations. That format is incredibly helpful, :)

P.S. - I've also noticed inferior Se causes us INXJs to take an "all or nothing" approach to situations. I think this conversation is a perfect reflection of that!

Good job Solo. This year I have spent a lot of time developing my Se by learning to cook Thai and Indian. I've always enjoyed spicy foods. I was on meds for my anxiety but now meditate, control breathing, walk my Rott twice daily, aroma therapy, run 3 days a week, cook, read great lit and watch great series (no binging). No alcohol, drugs, smoke, sugar or red meat either. Its a full-time job being INFJ. Keep up the good work.

LOVE your insights into the wiring of our minds. I think one of the tricks of dominant Ni is to use it to read what's going on underneath what we observe in real time. Meaning that we use Ni in our interactions with people and combine it with Fe to support objective values of harmony and Se to interpret what we gather from objective sensory data (or something like that). It's when we try to have insight to what doesn't even exist yet that can often trip us up (even if we have a strong sense/feeling of it). That Ni/Ti loop can eat us alive when we want to problem solve. I think our need to and skill in anticipating problems (along with ENFJ's) is a double edged sword of helpful and obsessive that can keep us simulating everything in our heads and never actually living. I tell people that it's almost like I have to live it and move through it in my head first (especially if its something I'm responsible for planning). Looking like we didn't think something through (and even worse, being called out on it) or that we were being inconsiderate is sooooo painful. I find that is one of my most defensive spots (probably a Ti thing).

"It's when we try to have insight to what doesn't even exist yet that can often trip us up."
Your comment and that line in particular really resonated with me. I love your picture of what healthy use of dominant Ni (with support from each of the other functions) can look like.

I'm another INFJ with a girl pit bull! Mine is named Storm. I hope that you and Sophie are doing great! Nice video! I agree that in times of dark depression, (which occur semi-regularly for me), I grow the most. I let mistakes, regrets, disappointment, and pain sink in. I feel them fully. But not for too long! I don't allow myself to wallow. I'm like a butterfly, struggling to escape out of my cocoon. It's frustrating, but I know that I will escape the pain, and fly. My ESTJ husband cannot ever understand when I'm down. He always says, in his literal way, "There is nothing to be down about, you have a good life". And of course I am grateful for all the good in my life, but that is besides the point. LOL There is a heavy weight that builds up over time, which needs to be reflected on and released!

Well organized presentation. One area that I get that negative dip in confidence is when I take a test and get the answer wrong. I expect to get them all right and when I miss one, I never forget it. If I see that question again, I will get it right. That negative dip hurts. It is very motivational in helping me to remember what I did wrong for the future. It also comes across when I am writing something for an article or anything else that is going to be published, and I find something in error that is in the work. I am not so much talking typos, but things that are factually wrong. Same thing when I am making videos for my channel. That negative spike hits hard. The upside on that is that it forces improvement. My INTJ mind will not accept poor work and poor results. The downside of that is that I tend to double and triple check myself when it really wouldn't matter much if there were something wrong in the work. It would matter to me, even if no one else cares.
One other thing on test taking, when my ESTP wife was taking her food handling test for a job a few years ago online, I went through and read the material thoroughly, and I looked over her shoulder as she took the test. She would tell me what her answer was before submitting it, and I would let her know if she had it wrong. The only item on the test she missed was the one she answered before I could check it. I love tests. :-)

It always amazed me as to how little pieces I need to improve or complete a picture. And it happens -so- fast.. Sometimes I can grab such a process in action and it always brings a huge smile to my face, this sense of clarity and interconnectivity of seemingly random information. especially when the 'car pieces' suddenly join up with pieces from an entirely different picture. I guess this is the typical INFJ unorthodox problem solving in action, or our 'Mystic' vibe to ppl "...How can he know this??" etc ;)
I learned my lesson though to shut up until the picture reaches a certain percentage and the outside world would be near unable to deny it. This obviously gave me problems when I was a kid, no one likes smart-asses at that age.
I am very visually oriented and your pictures help immensely actually..
Ps, I wrote this before seeing the 'outtakes', and they made me laugh in recognition. I to feel so hopeless sometimes, thx for including it.

This is a very interesting topic that you have decided to talk about. My best friend is actually an ESTP and I am an INTJ, so we share opposite dominant and inferior functions. We have been friends since I was 10 years old, so nearly 20 years now. While studying the mbti I have noticed that I am for sure an INTJ at my core but thanks to growing up with my friend and constantly trying to balance myself I have many uncharacteristic traits. My friend and I bonded over videogames, it is a very amusing playing field because his Se dominant functions helps him to excel at timing and execution while my Ni dominant function helps me to predict outcomes and strategize. He is an expert at musical games but I'm pretty bad at them. We have a pretty even ground on fighting games because he is immersed in the action on the screen but I can compete by predicting movement and action. In strategy games I can often “break the game” by fully utilizing the system but my friend loses interest in the complexity of such a task. My friend has also balanced himself more by being around me ,I think, because even though he is a perceiving type he is very organized. He is also used to my personality type so I feel that he is much more open to my type than most ESTP's. Balance is very important in overcoming the shortcomings of your lesser functions. I feel that people who use mostly their dominant function are more one dimensional and fit more into the typical mbti profile for their type. The dominant function does give us great strength though, sometimes I find myself reverting to a younger state of consciousness in order to inflict greater focus on my external world. I think this is because our dominant function is prevalent throughout puberty when we are learning how to deal with the world. A pitfall of being more balanced with your functions is that you will likely have more complexity with choices and be less focused until you have many years of practice. My ex-girlfiend was an ENFP, I was incredibly self centered before I was with her, learning from other types can be tough but I think it is well worth it. Meditation is a good way of balancing and bettering yourself. You can actually meditate while doing most things just by being completely present with what it is that you are doing. Alan Watts has a great explanation of this, I will post the link. Your chart with confidence and the positive and negative occurrences is also very interesting, Alan Watts has a speech relating to this as well which I'll link. I agree with you and Daniel on your theories of this chart. If you accept your mistakes (and victories) rather than dwelling on them than your confidence line will be more static. The ego is what creates the strong feelings and emotions about your situation. Learning from your mistakes is obviously important for growing and is the most positive action you can take with your mistakes. Ego is a very tricky thing because it is responsible for the majority of crime and negativity in the world but at the same time ego is responsible for your individuality. So it's a constant challenge to maintain positivity with the ego but not succumb to the negative and harmful gut reactions that are bound to happen from time to time in your life.
Alan Watts - Acceptance - link broke :(
Alan Watts - Meditation - link broke :(

Thanks! you´ve just cleared out a lot. Particularly about using your primary functions more notably during puberty, I think my Ni use (as an INFJ) has only been mitigated over the last year (my 17th birthday is a couple months away). Plus this period of my life has been the first in which I´ve really taken interest in Fe and percieving particularities of those around me through Se.
By the way, my girlfriend is an ENFP (they´re lovely aren´t they?) and I can notice the same tendency has been playing out on her as to using Fi and Si to attempt introspection. She has becopme more keen on recalling and re-examinating her life (Si and its mnemonic tendencies) and her identity (her secondary Fi makes her quite exclamative about it).
My mother is an INTJ, I´ve been typed as an INTJ a couple of times before and I have a great admiration for the general INTJ conception of life.
      Thanks for the comment :)

I'm not either, as a entp, my closest are intj and it's really hard to watch, they will think or fantasise of a idea then actually do it, they talk themselves out of it..only know one infj and she's OK, sometimes going for coffee out.
You badger them for a year to come out, only to say nah, then they say" see, told you she's not committed to our friendship" 🙄

Hi. Enjoying the videos. Something that probably came/comes with age (for me some time after 35) you become more accepting of your limitations (limitations in the sense that its okay not to necessarily be a genius or a savant or something obviously special. This in itself makes it easier to be there for others because ultimately you cannot be of service to others if you are overly critical of yourself. You become content with the realisation that you don't always have to have the right answer to evey question and you can send people to other people who might help them better.

Thank you for making these videos. You have an excellent way of explaining things. It helps me understand my crazy mind. This really hits home. It's good to know I'm not alone. I know what you mean about storytelling. NI sees so many different things at once it is hard to bring it together in order for a story. I've been meditating for a while now too. It has helped me to be more centered.

Forget about Se. If God wanted you to have strong Se, He'd have given you strong Se. Don't fight your Ni, embrace it.
The problem is not that your Ni is always telling you there's danger and to change the world. The problem is that you are living a life of safety, instead of living a life where there IS real danger around every corner and allowing your Ni to actually be useful and reach it's full potential. There is nothing wrong with you. It IS your job to change the world. Go do it.

Well it’s not actually true what you say. The whole basis of this type of psychology is integrating what’s inferior, in Jung’s words -working with your shadow, aka your inferior function. If you don’t work with it, it will work against you. What you say only furthers repression and psychic imbalance.

I've found this video so enlightening as to my interior dialogue... well done girl! Also, my boyfriend is an INTJ too and I've seen him in the more "egoistical" reason for not going out with the dog. I've realised how much I struggle with Se, and how much I struggle with Ni getting in the way of my Se. I would love to go out more, and do more stuff but Ni gets in the way and I am kind of frustrated about that. I've always thought I should find a boyfriend who was more active than I am, in order to spur me... but I've ended up with one who's lazier than I am ahahah So yeah, I am basically the more active of the couple at the end of the day. But I am okay with that because, when I just wanna stay home, he is always willing to accomodate me (no surprises there) and that is also very important because if I had a guy who didn't understand my need to stay home sometimes doing absolutely NOTHING, we wouldn't work at all.
Whenever you feel like telling us more about Se, feel free.
I can tell you this. I overindulge and have had problems with overeating and binging, binging with tv series (of course) and what not. But lately I've notice the fixation on sensory aspects of life. For example, I am italian, and we have been having quite a few problems here with bad weather and earthquakes and stuff. In the same period, I was going through a hard time with my boyfriend and also I was going to therapy and it was working (painfully) and basically, what I did is... I became obsessed with sounds, always alert trying to spot all the noises and trying to analize them to see if they could be a sign of structural problems of the house. Also, I got obsessed by the little cracks in the walls, also the small one only due to paint. Since I have a very keen eye when I want to, I've been staring at walls for days, cataloguing all of the cracks, comparing them day in and day out to see if the house was coming apart. I know it is absurd, but I think that was a way for me to keep everything under control. I've had that happening to me a lot in my life, though. What function do you think it stems from? What can we do about it?
(I did eventually tone it down *of course it is still there somewhere* when my boyfriend had enough of it and told me to stop because I was making no sense... of course in the most tactful way, the one only INTJ are capable of... NOT)
    All the best to you,
    Marta

      @LegendaryanChannel 6 лет назад +2

Hi Marta! I think it might be something where you feel like you can't bring the picture of your amazing life together that Ni wants, because you have this worry in the back of your head. You're hyper focused on it with Se, and also Ti to help solve the problem. You record all the sounds and cracks to keep a hold on it, so that you can be sure that everything is fine and does not affect your life vision. That seems to be what would be the case for me sometimes. I would just maybe try realize that what happens, happens, and that your life is so very complete without having control over this detail. Also, maybe be sure to keep engaging your senses in activities and possibly just set aside a time each day for worrying about it and only think about it at that time. Hope that helps!

Amazing video, I have gone through tons of INFJ videos but this one really gets to the core of how I experience the world. Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together, this kind of content is extremely rare and important when trying to really rediscover yourself.
Joining random information into a greater whole is the literal story of my life, I have been doing this as far back as I remember. I do it with everything, people, places, subjects, ideas, feelings... I live for it. Finding that insight and seeing that puzzle come together is like experiencing the most powerful drug. A few months ago I stopped a coworker who I had never talked to at all but I had seen for ages around the office. I couldn't help but stop her one day and ask her about the little things I noticed she was doing from afar. She was stunned that I cared so much about what I was seeing and that I remembered so many random events about her even though we never once spoke. I felt compelled to understand her body language puzzle but once I did stop her we had an amazing conversation and we both came to insights about ourselves. She didn't even notice all the gestures and unusual energy she was giving off and we have talked everyday since.

This is exactly my experience. I'm an INTJ and I am learning how and when to let me Se take over without panicking. Avoiding anything bad like overeating or touching myself and focusing on more beautiful things like music, dancing, nature or working out. The problem I find is that when I'm lost in the Se world I completely lose my Te planning for the future, so I can become very unproductive, in order to get back to Te from Se I have found that blocking or attacking the senses seems to work for example using ear plugs or taking a cold shower. Last piece of advice is to plan when to let the Se take over and make sure you have enough time to swtich back.

I just had a 'vision'... California is very ESxP (Se dominant). Thus many ESTPs will take along their INFJs subconscious whenever needed to move masses along with ideas and together with ESFPs and actual INTJs doing the planning and it doesn't take many others to carry along the entire plan of an entire people communicator personality-type society.

As an INFJ, I used to banish cabin fever by exercising Se. I'd do that by going out for walks in the more cultural area of the city and go check out festivals and stuff. I'd just take the bus and go and for a walk around with my laptop bag full of books and drawing stuff, just going wherever I felt at the time with plenty of time to relax and meander about before going to check out an event I wanted to see. I found this to be fairly satisfying even if taking a car would be more convenient. There's no pressure to get there so no way for Ni to bring up possibilities of setbacks.
I'd notice a fair number of Ni doms in certain public places like coffeeshops and parks, many would be solitary, with no social pressure around, and a few would be engrossed in a book or other activity (like walking a dog or something).
Thanks for leaving the bloopers in. I too get tongue-tied sometimes and find it hard to regain my train of thought if it brings me into a criticism loop. I guess that's just one of our more human qualities!

Not sure if kinesthetic awareness is SE? If so i find that activitys like playing piano, martial arts or any physical activity that requires accurate movement i enter into a different state of awareness that allows me to focus on the details of my physical actions and the environment. The result is potentially as rewarding to NI masturbation.

[INTJ 5w4] I loved it. Everything you say is very accurate, and well ... I sort of discovered that the key is acceptance and peace, or in other words not to be harsh to ourselves when we fail to do something dearly important to us. It seems logical after all but feels so counterIntuitive to do ?! Shut down all of our "superpowers" to rely only on self-belief in a crucial moment is just ... crazy :)), but if mastering this is the way to go than that is what we will achive, right everyone ? I think, as always, when we know we will have to face something we are not completely comfortable, we should get prepared for every outcome, and make us feel ok about it no matter what it will happen, and with practice i suppose we will be more consistantly stable. Thank you for the video!

Meditation is the best :) I haven't done it in years but it def helped by feel more grounded. I need to get back into that.
Controlling situations... man hah yea ppl have said that they sense some of that control issues in me. I never saw it because I saw control issues as negative but my intentions are good hahhaha I've worked (read: constantly work) on accepting the things that I have 100% control of (my behavior) and the things I have limited or no control over (my thoughts/feelings and the thoughts/feelings/behavior of others). It's tough! :)
    That's an insightful bf!
    Thanks, this has helped :)

Do you think that mindfulness techniques are a good way to improve SE in an INTJ? Do you have others tips?

When you say "let Se take over a little", is yoga in place of chocolate addiction what you mean or enough to give into that Se indulgence that you're having trouble with? Is that an option to still overcome struggles cause its partially Se but not as strong of Se as other instantly gratifying things.

Regarding the pit bull pet. I wonder who is transferring the anxiety to whom? Is the dog anxious because the owner is stressed or is the owner stressed because the dog is stressed? The say dogs pick up the emotional energy from owners. They say change the emotional state of the owner and then the dog changes its behavior

This whole 'Se inferior' thing is not an accurate measurement of true typology. It is a perceiving function like the INTJs Ni, only it is their extroverted perceiving function. We had Keirsianism in the temperament sorter which has an antiquated view of cognitive function descriptions such as Dominant, Auxiliary and Tertiary with the fourth only described in an unhealthy state ect, though still has relevant merit in the context of temperament, which ultimately derives from Plato.
Now C. S. Joseph comes forward with a more up to date emerging standard of the cognitive functions themselves.
His listed conscious descriptions are thus ~
    INTJ (Ego)
    -----------------
    1. Ni - Hero ~ Willpower
    2. Te - Parent ~ Rationale
    3. Fi - Child ~ Morals
    4. Se - Aspiration ~ Physics
Cognitive functions should always be the primary denominator of typology, it emphasising a core to outer individuation model as opposed to the Keirsian model which emphasises an outer to core collectivist model.
    The functions manifest as follows within the three other quadrant sides;
    INTJ Unconscious/Shadow (ENTP)
    -------------------------------------------------------
    Ne - Nemesis
    Ti - Critic
    Fe - Trickster
    Si - Demon
    INTJ Subconscious (ESFP)
    ------------------------------------------
    Se - Physics
    Fi - Morality
    Te - Rationale
    Ni - Willpower
    INTJ Superego (ISFJ)
    --------------------------------
    Si - Past/Duty
    Fe - Ethics
    Ti - Logic
    Ne - Metaphysics.
In the context of INTJ combined consciousness specifically I'd go even further with.
    1. Dream ~ Ni
    2. Drive ~ Te
    3. Ring ~ Fi
    4. System ~ Se
    (Extreme elaboration).
The INTJ is renowned for being 'super fast' because their Te and Se process and manifest outwardly as their two conscious extraverted functions within their ego quadrant.
But also their shadow (unconscious) and subconscious are all also 'movement' types along with their ego type, making them what's known as a 'triple movement' type as the video variation - 'Who are the INTJs' highlights.
