Zambia was a British colony and became an independent country in 1964, first president was Kenneth Kaunda who ruled for 27 years and died last year in June (2021). Zambia first held multiparty elections in 1991, has consistently held peaceful elections and those in which the ruling party lost the party magnanimous conceded defeat and handed over power to to the winning party and the current president is the 7th. In 2015 when the fifth president, Michael Sata died his vice Guy Scott who is of European descent acted as president for three months until the new president was elected. Zambia is an extremely peaceful country and one of a number of African countries never to have experienced a civil strife.
History very similar to Kenya. You said Kenneth Kaunda ruled for 27 years. As for Kenya, second president ruled for 24 years. The first president died and did not rule for long. Multi-party in Kenya was also first held in 1992, you guys 1991. Very nice to find something similar. As Uhuru recently said "we have more things in common than ever fighting Europeans". Can't imagine how these boundaries have separated us. People do not know that there were many African communities that had never known war, and Africa traded with each other for a long time. African conflicts were only a few tribes. Love Zambia from Kenya. Would like Victoria Falls. We actually need to change these European names to African names. Peace.
@@Lantronic There’s a lot of similar stuff between Kenya and Zambia including names , Mwale, Mwango, Daka and I believe there’re a lot others!! In this era the issue of ethnicity shouldn’t be a consideration when it comes to choice of leadership but leadership attributes and ability should be the overriding consideration. In Zambia though ethnicity is to a certain extent an issue, it’s not as pervasive as in Kenya and indications are it will even become less of a factor in the future as the younger generation seems to value possession of leadership attributes over anything else. Kenya is one of the most well known countries in Africa so it is to some extent it is in an ambassadorial position and owes some responsibility to Africa, so what happens there has a bearing on how the rest of the world perceive Africa.
