Great video as always. Very informative. For someone who doesn't have hydraulic press, what's your suggestion on getting the bearings in place? Hammer and an unnaturally steady hand?
Some of the bearings used are off the needle type and need even pressure and strait force, some are large and need a higher force, some are delicate and would fail if inserted incorrectly. A hydraulic press is the better solution.

Any idea as to the mileage this DU had? I'm running a Gen 2 as well. Cheers!
Hi, it had 2.2km
@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic Huh? It never got rode? 🤔

Hi Dave can you service a Brose motor off a Kenevo ?
Yes I can.
What motor model was that? Why would anyone not mention it in such a video? Hmm?
Thank you for watching and your nice comments. it was a Bosch BDU250P
What I don't understand is why there's no conformal coating on the electronics?
Hi, thanks for watching, and your comments
Great video as always. Very informative. For someone who doesn't have hydraulic press, what's your suggestion on getting the bearings in place? Hammer and an unnaturally steady hand?
only press you will damage bearing if you use hammer you can try but be carefoul dont punch into inner ring.
block of wood and rubber mallet.
@@SPEXWISE Very good idea
Find someone with a press
Some of the bearings used are off the needle type and need even pressure and strait force, some are large and need a higher force, some are delicate and would fail if inserted incorrectly. A hydraulic press is the better solution.
Nice job! Also i love your marinemaster!
Thanks, One of my favourite watches.
With the way E Bikes are going I can see your business' expanding big, I'm not to far from you might pop down over summer with my Trex E bike for a chat.
Hi, Thanks for watching and your comments, you are welcome anytime
Love the work. Proper spannering. Jealous of the press. Curious question though, why not Just send it back to Magura/Bosch UK, they'll replace it for free if the customer has an original purchase receipt.
Hi, thanks for watching, the motor was 2017, no warranty I’m afraid.
@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic Stonking work. Can I ask who you get your main bearings from if that's ok with you? Got three of the Gen 3's with wrecked bearings sitting in the workshop.
@@lt1eg6 measure them and try bearings websites. It may be a standard size available from different suppliers in different brands
Nice clean work bench.
Thanks but it makes a change
Excellent video and a bargain for a repair like this.
Hi Ian, thanks for watching and your comments
Nylon gears ???
yes, but they seem to last longer than the steel bearings
Yes, to reduce the sound.
DID I miss how many miles the motor has done ?
Hi, Thanks for watching and your comments, 2100 miles
Hello, how much km did this motor ran?
Thank you for watching and your comments, 2.2k
Nothing last for ever but on cars the majority of roller bearings do who have a much harsher environment than the humble e-bike, I apprecitae buying a bearing kit for a customer you are going to replace all the bearings but assume it would be low risk if only noisy or water ingressed bearings were changed re DIY at home?
Thanks for watching and your comments
Job well done 👍 keep up the good content 👍👍👍

Excellent vid 😊 bringing my e bike for service
Hi, Thanks for watching and your comments
Excellent thanks for sharing
Great stuff thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it
Bosch burned me pretty good. Motor dies a few months shy of 2 years. The shop held it till after the warranty. Now the motor barely has power, and they say the bike is not fixable. Niner 2020 wfo e9.
Go back to your bike shop, even out of warranty bosch will consider helping you. but you said that the bike shop had the motor, so its not your fault.
@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic They had the bike which has the motor in it. The nearest bosch certified shop is about 150 miles away from me. I gave up on them doing the right thing. At some point I will attempt to mod it. Thats why I am watching all these vids. Trying to not let the $8500 bike go to waste.
Brilliant dave,, fantastic knowledge of the game💪😁👍❤️the job looks simply forward 👌
Thanks Stephen
Great video. Thanks a lot.

20:30 nice tattoo on the head :-)
hi, don't know where that came from
What actually Causes the noise
Hi, mainly it’s the outboard bearings inside the motor.
If I close my eyes it's like I'm learning how to repair a Bosch drive from Shrek 😁
Thanks, lol
19:18 why did you not put a gasket to seal that badboy back up? A return customer is the best customer, eh?
Hi, Thanks for watching, Bosch replaced the gaskets on some models for better ones, this one was in good condition.
Great video
Thank you
Fortunately for me , "noise " is not an issue .
after all an e-bike motor is a machine with moving parts and when parts rub together , some amount of sound is created .
if you want a "silent " bike , get one without a motor .
Hi, Thanks for watching and your comments
Well done!!
Thanks!
Thank you too! and thanks for watching
wow and i was worried my new ebike was a little loud that thing sounds like its got broken marbles in it.
Hi, thanks for watching and your comments
Hi mate, just done this repair and now im getting error code 500 which apparently means internal motor issue. I was very careful with the circuit board, any ideas? Cheers mate.
Hi, Thanks for watching and your comment. the only thing you can do is re-write the firmware in the motor to see if that helps.
@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic cheers mate yeah thats where im at. Dealers haven't got much idea down here never used the bosch diagnostics but i will keep trying them
I didn't see you put any gasket or sealer on the two cases before you mated them back together. If you did, I failed to see it in this video.
Hi, Thanks for watching, Bosch replaced the gaskets on some models, this one was in good condition.

Hey up, how ya doing, hope your well.
@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic can't complain dave, I've got a question for you... on my trek rail 7 I've got a weird noise from the rear axil, I've replaced all rear wheel bearings and renewed the free hub, cassette was checked ok and chain renewed but its developed a noise from the back end and as yet I've not looked, there is no play in hub etc. Any idea?
When you say the bearing is expensive, what ammount are we talking about?
If it's really expensive, take an old bearing with you to a bearing specialist and ask them for price for an simmilar one and usually it cost just 10 usd as most bearings are standard size and even the same manufacturer as OEM bosh ones.
Hi, there are 3 main types of quality of bearing, Chinese, japan, german, all three are very different in cost and quality. need to choose carefully depending on application
@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic Yeah, but it does NOT cost 235 pound for a few bearing. Cost of all the bearings is around 40 pouns, for the quality ones..
@@drister007 235 pounds was the labor/shop rate for the work. Extra for parts.

£250 for bearings haha 😆 this is why I don’t use bike mechanics so glad I can build shit myself bet the bearing themselves where about £50 quids worth
Thank you for watching and your comments.
No one paid 250, he said the total job cost was 235.
Exactly! Around £50 for all the bearings.
It’s not right that a five year old motor is so noisy. What’s the mileage on it?
Thanks for watching and your comments, 2.2k, the early B DU2 motors suffer outer bearing issues
for the price they charge for these units they should not be using shit bearings.
Hi Thanks for watching, I'm not sure that the bearings are shite it's just the environment they have to work in and the amount of power thats goes though them and considering it's such a small form factor (my personal opinion) things will improve given time

I am hoping to make it that far!
Good luck and keep riding!
Really?
Yes really
i'll bet that the majority of problems with bosch motors is the result of abuse by the rider and an unreasonable expectation of longevity .
a former friend of mine ,drove his moms new BMW at insane speeds on the Autobahn for a year and was then surprised that the motor blew up .
even the best built machine on the planet will fail if abused .
now, remove it very carefully.. * takes hammer and hits the motor*
...bish, bash, Bosch...great work, but I'm so glad I don't have an e bike!
