The hardest one I formed was the Archduchy of Austria in about 920 AD. It was so frustratingly hard I was just about in tears, lol. First, I had to found the HRE, then somehow convince everyone to NOT vote for me so I could be reverted back to a duke. I was able to rush forming the HRE in one generation by swearing fealty to East Francia then consuming them from within. Then I was stuck as a duke for like 50 years while I tried to rush 'royal perogative' so I could get to Authority level 3. Not as simple as it sounds, as being stuck as a fairly low-powered duke I found I was at constant risk of losing leadership of my culture (which I didn't want to diverge for RP reasons). It seemed that for every county inside my lands I converted to my culture, this other duke I couldn't really touch was converting like 1.2 of his own to my culture. But eventually I got the tech, but then I had to hold everything together while trying to NOT get elected as the Emperor of the HRE, (or somehow get a dynasty member elected, which just wasn't happening) and also get a strong hook on the current Emperor. I managed to get a fairly decent schemer as my character, but my god was it so hit and miss fabricating the strong hook. You'd get a weak hook, find out a secret that blocks you fabricating until you revealed it, or fail, and he was at constant risk of dying. I just about cried tears of relief when it all finally came together in the end, but there is SO FREAKING MUCH that can go wrong and completely screw it up.
I was very happy to see that yes, it set my inheritance to primogeniture, and I was able after that to build an amazingly stable and wealthy empire (the Empire of Austria) without a single care over a messy inheritance. After I grew to the size of the HRE I even got elected back as the HREmperor, (which I actually tried to avoid by voting for anyone who wasn't me, since I didn't want all their crappy lands dragging on my court amenities costs), but I eventually decided to just merge it with the Empire of Austria and call it a day.

another cool thing you apparently can't do yet in CK3 is form the Latin Empire, which is in the game files as a titular title but there's no mechanics to form it or even spawn it
by the way, the Kingdom of Trinacria and Naples are the two halves of the old kingdom of Sicily created after the Aragonese invasion - King of Trinacria would remain a title in the Aragonese crown until it was all awkwardly meshed together as Spain and then, in the posnapoleonic world, the two kingdoms were binded together once more as the Kingdom of Two Sicilies

I found restoring Rome sorta easy as the Byzantines in the 867 start date. ended up conquering all of southern Italy with not much difficulty and then when the Queen of Italy had no husband and my character had no wife we married, I had her son killed so our new son would be heir to both realms and after that I just had to farm prestige before he died. Also winning a series of holy wars against the Abassids before. Hardest one I think I've done though was definitely the Archduchy of Austria. Forming Rome yourself is easy, he didn't say the contrary. The reason these titles are in this video is because of how hard it is to see them exist without you doing it. Besides, forming Rome when you start as HRE or Byzantium is unsatisfying af from what I've seen, too easy, too boring. I'd rather start as a count in southern Italy, or the islands and creep up steadily from there, that is truly satisfying and challenging, as much as this game can be anyway. This game is not really hard by itself if you micromanage properly, all lifestyles contain winning strategies and you need only secure a genius trait heir early on to boost your capacity to rise up.

I played as Sicility the other day and formed the Kingdom of Baleo-Tyrrhea. That was pretty interesting. You just need to hold all the islands in the Western Mediterranean Sea basin (Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, and the Balearic Islands) and the title basically gives you a casus belli to conquer all coastal counties of the Mediterranean Sea, and I mean all of them, including those in the Eastern basin.

The Austrian Archduchy is also pretty cool to obtain. The only hard part of obtaining it is that you have to be a vassal of the HRE, meaning it can’t fall apart, and your player character can’t be the HRE emperor. With other conditions as well obviously. But it was hard for me because every time I tried, I would be elected as the emperor because everyone loved me because of my virtuous traits and congenital beautiful trait.

I’ve accidentally restored the Roman Empire on two seperate occasions, and both times the hardest part wasn’t conquering the Byzantine Empire or Jerusalem. No, it was getting Rome itself.
Good luck to anyone who fights a war against the Pope, especially in the endgame. You might think you can beat him, but he has boatloads of money and plenty of mercenaries. To beat him, I literally had to buy every mercenary company before he could

    • @admontblanc

Kek, yeah, there are points in time where it's easier, for example when the crusades first start you'll have windows of opportunity, if you're not christian it also makes your life easier etc. But you're right, leaving him unchecked until too long into the game can be quite a shock. I was doing an Iberian campaign as a Jimena brother start (Kingdom of Leon) and about the time the mongol invasion begins the Pope had not only conquered more land in Italy, he had also formed the Annointed Kingdom of Romagna, which made his base strenght almost double the intial power he has with just the duchy of Latium and that county in to the south. I wonder if the Papal States can form the Kingdom of God that exists in EU4 if they eventually manage to capture all of Italy.

    • @meneldal
      @meneldal 2 года назад

There are tricks to get the pope to move his doomstack away or make it suffer pretty bad attrition to bring it to reasonable levels.
Waiting for the pope to be already at war is usually the best way, if you're not christian you can simply conquer a place he likes to crusade against, give it independence and wait for him to send his troops away. Or even if your Christian, you can give a crusade target to a non christian vassal just to trigger the pope.

Rome was crazy to build. I somehow was able to do it on an irish start where I had Britannia before going feudal. Fought inwars for a few generations, somehow ended up with an intrigue Emperor (due to my heirs being mysteriously killed, go figure) & decided it was time for my player heir to become the heir to Byzantine.
With Byzantine & Brittania under my belt I just walked through Italy & the rest to form Rome within another 50 years. Granting my sons land I took so they'd build wealth & prestige early. With all that money I just developed as much gold per day buy building everywhere & getting rich from constant war & ransoms that come with it & next thing I know I had the Restore Rome option.
    Great guide !

Very cool video. Indeed some of these kingdoms/empires should be ironman achievements. I made "Turkish Eagle" and of course "Rise from the ashes". As I usually quit a campaign after getting the aspired achievement, I have not realised the amazing traits coming from that. I considered unifying the Slavia as I played the "Brave and Bold" campaign. But since without Steam Achievement no one will ever know about this great accomplishment and even I will forget about it, I left it alone.

As someone who really like to start somewhere in Italy and try to recreate the Roman Empire, I know that being the Emperor of Italia and taking the "Unite Italy" decision also enables you to reform Rome. Also, only your former empire titles get replaced and only the "Dismantle Greek/German pretenders" decision increases the de jure empire size without drift.

It was formed in real life by a king of Aragon and it split the former kingdom of sicily in two, the Kingdom of Sicily (insular, Trinacria) and the Kingdom of Naples. Later, the two unified again and became the Kingdom of Two Sicilies.

And it's easier to form the Roman Empire if you play as the Bizantines in 867, in that way you don't have any BIG threats like HRE and the Seijuk in 1066(and for Abbasid is just form some alliances with marriages).
