  • Thanks so much for watching! I hope this helps some of you who struggle with your hooded eye shape and figuring out what works for you! Remember, makeup is art and whatever style eyeshadow you like wearing, rock it. Styles that don't flatter my eye shape might flatter yours perfectly! It's all about experimentation and practice :).

I find it so very important that you kept mentioning that hooded eye shape is different on almost each person that has "hooded eyes". At the beginning when I learned how to put make up on my hooded eye shape I also watched thousands of videos on "hooded eyes" and couldn't understand why different methods simply didn't look good on me. It really took me a long time to practise and see what made my eye look flattering. But I think it would have helped a lot if I saw your video where you do explain that no hooded eye is the same (even my own two eyes are not hooded the same way LOL). I think I would have gotten the whole idea quicker!! So this was such a good job from thousands of other "hooded eye videos"!! Really great job!! Thank you for doing this!!

Don't hate me, but I like your "bad" eye, too! It looks so sexy and feline, like some of Jennifer Lawrence's looks. I think some thin black liner on the top of your "good" eye, plus some more mascara would make it even better.
But don't get me wrong--I love your techniques and channel! I am a new subscriber, as I have hooded eyes, as well! I hope there is more with your lovely cat visitor, too!

I've recently just started to try to wear eyeshadow and, I'm so glad I found your video. I love that you don't have to use so much to achieve a great look. I'll definitely play around with what works for my "hoodies" using some of your tips. Just some patience and strategic applying, and voila!. Yours is the first channel I've ever subscribed to AND "clicked the bell" to be notified of new videos! 😊 This is by far the best video I've ever seen on hooded eyes! You answered like 8 of my questions about my hooded eyes, even ones I didn't know I had! You are truly an artist-- I think I've just had so many basic "tips" for applying eye makeup ingrained into my thinking and never quite knew why they didn't work for me. I've kept trying to apply more products and fancy faux creases to fix the issues--watching this it's like a bell went off in my head--less is more! It's so cool that you can actually apply less makeup just in a strategic way to make the eye more open. I love the logical thinking that goes Into every step, that's how my mind works so it really clicked with me. I feel like a cartoon with a light bulb over my head right now--thank you so much! 😀 You are gorgeous, btw! 😍

Thanks, I really like the tip for pushing the dark shadow "into" you lash line instead of above. I have been struggling with that and avoided darkening my lash line at all except for the outer corners. I also have been struggling figuring out how to define my outer v.. I have found a u shape works better for me, but I really like how you did it and I can incorporate that as well. Yes, it is so frustrating to watch tutorials of people with huge eyelids who just look like they swipe a blending brush in their crease and make it look so effortless.. Then I try it and work super hard only to look in the mirror later and realize that when my eyes are open naturally you can't see any of my hard work. I'm 26 and just started wearing makeup.. It really is in art.

Same! The good side was a bit boring. How on earth are you supposed to integrate colour with this technique. There is hardly any use of shadow, let alone colour. I bet the same result could be had with just one dark bronw and a lot of blending with a crease shade.
The bad side needed a bit more blending and a bit more TLC

You have super prominet brow bones like me! Although i still think mine protrude just a bit more. This made so much sense and gave me more confidence to try eyeshadows again!

Thank you so much for your videos..after following hooded eye tutorials from youtube with no progress at all..i just accepted that my kind of hooded eyes are not meant for eyeshadows at all..after watching this i have tried all the looks from the numerous palattes that i have and everything went so well..thank you again🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Thank you so so much!! That was so so helpful. I have 'hooded' eyes just like yours. So glad I found your video. There are a lot of youtube makeup artists who don't have hooded eyes and I tried to follow their technique and it just makes my hooded eyes look even smaller and hooded. I was feeling quite down and discouraged as I can see I don't have an eyelid like theirs. I totally agree with you on using less glitter and not doing the 'wing' liner thing on a hooded eye.

I think the "no" eye is super rock'n'roll, I guess it just depends on preference. Thanks for the tips! I'm definitely one to just throw some shadow on heavy handed, so I will be trying your "work slow" technique!

I think there is a happy medium between the two... on your "do" side, leaving that much lid space makes the hood look very big and bright. A well blended wash of a light brown from your natural crease and just slightly above would soften it and give it some dimension. Great videos, I'm realizing this is an older video and you probably do that by now anyways!!

Amen! I've worn makeup for 14 years and I'm barely just starting to get the hang of my eye shape and shadow. I prefer one or two shadows usually but I've gotten more comfortable with adding more as of late...it's definetly all in the practice

OMY I needed this so badly. I stopped doing my makeup for a little while and when I got back into it I was just, not doing my features justice. It's been like four years of me being like I don't know what to dooo any more. My hooded eye just looks like a bump lol. Haha. Lis Eldridge videos helped a bit but I still had a terrible habit of brining my outer wing shadow to high up, and I had totally forgotten how to do my wing eyeline but a few other videos have helped me re-think that.
I'm going to look at some of your newer ones I want some more eyeshadow color ideas. :D

I've always found hooded eyes alluring so being born with them hasn't broken my heart. That said, yes, it takes some alterations of traditional techniques, mostly along the lines of avoiding huge, exaggerated looks and sticking with matte shades. Less is definitely more, with shimmers on hooded eyes, and the right tools are a must. You're spot on with everything you say and do here. Thanks for such an honest and no-nonsense tutorial! (I still think you could pull off a half cut crease just fine, though! Do you have any videos in which you do that look?)

Just subscribed to your channel. I am 60+ so my eyes are really hooded but I do like to wear eye makeup. I've seen too many tutorials with your "bad" eye look that just doesn't work for me. Thank you and looking forward to more tutorials, Carol M.

Thank you thank you thank you! I've been doing the "don't side" because that's all I see for hooded eyes. I would drag the colour up higher so it would be seen when I open my eyes and it just looks so heavy! I'm going to try out your style which I'm loving for a lighter eye look.

I totally agree with you about the shimmers! I have hooded eyes and too much shimmer doesn't look right. I always gravitate towards matte and if I use shimmer I only apply a little to targeted spots. Great video! #hoodedeyessquad

I like both eyes and find majority of RUclips videos end up looking like the "bad" eye but that's not something I'd wear for every day so I really appreciate your details for creating the good eye. Nothing frustrates me more then doing my eyes and then I'm like "well now I look like I'm made up for a night in the town" as I put of yoga pants and a tshirt. Every day I want to emphasize my beautiful eye color but don't want it heavy so thank you for pointing out techniques and points I never thought of!

Such great tips! I've been doing the dos mostly lately and I've been able to tell a HUGE difference. I still love shimmers though. But I only use it on the 2/3 of the lid, arch of brow, and inner corner.
