What goth / gothic aspects do you like the most?
P.S. I intended this to be a concise “5 mins” explanation. But I keep adding more and more. Before I realised, it eventually became a 10 mins video.

As someone that has been apart of the Goth subculture for a very long time I will agree with your video. When it comes to the subculture the only criteria is you have to really & truly like the music to call yourself a Goth. Now when it comes to the Germanic tribes, Architecture, Art, Literature, Font & Fashion the term Gothic is the correct response. However if people nowadays just like to dress up in the fashion only & do not listen to the music while calling themselves a Goth just because it's the so-called " IT " thing now that's unacceptable. It's also funny because they were the people that made fun of others back in the day. They could call themselves darkly inclined or alternative but they won't because they just want that "Goth or Gothic title " which is sad & pathetic also will not be tolerated especially not in front of me.

I think one reason could be because of the misinterpretation and the media as well? I was asked by people outside of the subculture if I am goth or not based only my book and style preferences. Though I may listen to some goth songs, but I don't know enough songs to feel confident to call myself goth. So, I don't consider myself goth. So, yeah, from my experience, it could be from misunderstandings or misinterpretation that goth is just something dark, which is not always the case.

@@kjrasa Well if you really like at least some Goth music you are a part of the subculture. I think a lot of people back in the day with gatekeeping and elitism made other people are own worst enemy. Think about it if that didn't happen we wouldn't have people branching out into other subcategories of alternative. The media and especially social media played a major role in miscommunication also

I write with google translate. Thank you very much for added english subtitles, it helped me immediately translate into ukrainian language and understand what you are talking about. Unfortunately, there is very little literature in my native language about the Goths. Thanks to you, I have the opportunity to learn more about the Goths and to spread the knowledge I have gained. Please keep doing English subtitles, you are doing a very important job!

I may never be a goth, but I've always enjoyed gothic literature. I also like dark and romantic outfits [but not "aestheticaly goth"] and thrash metal [but it doesn't count as goth at all].
So I might not be in goth, but I'm always around it.

Another wonderful video, I feel like your art style has changed quite significantly in this video, more nana-esque I think..... But I could be wrong! I've enjoyed gothic themed literature for a long time now, it's not like I don't enjoy the other subsections of the culture though. I guess I could describe it as enjoying being able to understand the reasons why someone/something is gothic rather than simply seeing it and coming to my own conclusions as to why it is that way... yeah that's the best way I can describe it.
There was a large thunderstorm where I lived today so I am in high spirits! I hope the weather wherever you are fit your preferences whatever they may be.

Edit: Actually I've come to realise I'm a mall goth. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
-Hi! I consider myself to be darkly inclined and, yes, that's a pretty apt description of me. :) I'm only casually interested in goth music but I am into films and shows which get into topics considered darker, am death positive and love clothing styles considered to be goth. The main music genre I tend to listen to is metal, usually nu metal. Though I am curious what other darkly inclined people consider to be part of the subculture.-

I think Gothic is what evokes a certain feeling, and we all know what the feeling is, but we don't know what to call it. It's wedged in between so many feelings that it feels like it's a thing of its own perhaps. It clearly has its own essence, otherwise we wouldn't be able to recognize it even if we can't pinpoint it. It just so happens that dark, somber, macabre things, detailed, pale but beautiful and sophisticated things and so on are what induce that feeling. And a feeling of longing, curiosity of the unknown, solitude, being lost is part of the whole sometimes. I can't name it, all I know is that it's very satisfying.
