  • After a few requests for a Tradies Soap, I thought it was time to get my idea from paper into a soap mould. This tradies soap is also great for gardeners and mechanics. It is filled with Pumice, Poppy seeds and Apricot Kernel powder along with Buttermilk powder and Fuller's Earth Clay and scented with a fresh blend of Eucalyptus & Peppermint.

    My recipe was inspired by Royalty Soaps but has been tweaked to include my favourite ingredient, Shea Butter.

    30% Coconut Oil
    20% Palm Oil
    3% Shea Butter
    42% Olive Oil
    5% Castor Oil
    Superfat - 5%

    Excellent! I've been watching your channel for awhile now. My wife soaps too. Actually she'd kill me for that.... She formulates skin care products of which soap is one item, lol! I always get in trouble at craft fairs for saying something I shouldn't. Mostly telling people what an ingredient does. I think it's rediculous that there are so many rules on what you can claim. I use my wife's skin care and I know what it does for my skin! I'd never go back to store bought anything! My skin has improved greatly. I'll have to get my wife to formulate a "tradie" bar of soap. I am a gardener and we have several horse's. My hands stay dirty 80% of the time. Great video and I love watching!

    I really like the color of that soap and the visual texture of your exfoliating ingredients.
    My nephew works at a powder coating shop and I had given him some soap and one of his co-workers saw it in his bag and asked if he could try it. He was really impressed with how well it cleaned his hands and arms and didn’t leave him smelling like a girl (it was unscented). So I’m ordering some pumice and making a small batch for the guys to try out, going to leave it unscented.

    • @SoyandShea

      I was almost tempted to leave this unscented as I couldn't settle on a fragrance but love the freshness of peppermint and eucalyptus. Pumice makes such a great exfoliant without being too scratchy

      Soy and Shea - Most ‘tradies’ as you call them in the US use either Lava Soap or one of those orange based hand cleaners; both do the job, but they are pretty harsh on the skin, very drying.

      Scrubby soaps are always a good seller. The amount of scrubby bits is dependent on the size of the soap you're making and how scrubby you want it. I'm halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

    Exfoliation heaven and Fullers for the win... Never heard the word "Tradies" before you. Bonus on the turquoise color! ~ Curious, if you don't mind my asking: Why you selected fragrance vs essential oils?

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  4 года назад

      I never really consider that "tradies" was a very Australian term. We like to shorten words here so it's short for tradesmen 😆
      I mainly use the fragrance oils as I find they hold better in the soaps and also give me a price point that my customers are happy with. Occasionally I use Essential oils if I want their qualities in a soap but often the bars are smaller.

    Have you used Bentonite clay in place of the fullers earth clay?

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  4 года назад

      I have used bentonite in other products and others may use it in this style of soap. Personally I would use Kaolin if I didn't have Fullers. From my research, bentonite clay may help draw toxins and oils from the skin so would be better in products designed for people with oily skin. The Fullers and Kaolin absorb oils so may help to bind the oils built up from working and wash away easily.
