The only reason that card was deactivated was because the cleaning was done on video, which was bought to PSA's attention well AFTER the fact that they graded it. So in other words, PSA detected nothing wrong with that card in the first place, else they would have rejected it initially. Instead, they found nothing wrong with it, they autthenticated it, gave it a HIGHER grade, and slabbed it. If anything, THAT alone tells me that Kurts Card care absolutely works and does not do anything detrimental to the card, nor does it violate any grading criteria, else PSA would have rejected it in the first place. People act like Kurt is the sole person doing this ie., cleaning/restoring etc, and that it is a recent thing. When the reality is that it has probably been done forever, with much crazier methods, behind closed doors, and by thousands of people. For all we know, a large portion of PSA, SGC etc., graded cards have been "cleaned"- in fact it is a guranteed certainty that many slabbed cards out there have been through some sort of restoring process similar to kurts care. After all, didn't PSA also deactive the rest of the cards in that order? Which means that ALL of the cards in that order PASSED and got graded, and that PSA did not detect anything wrong with those cards either. So if he never shared the video of that card, then that card and the rest of that order would be out there and no one would even have the slightest clue. I look at this situation with Kurt the other way, in that it is a huge WIN for him and his products, as PSA just acknowledged that they cannot detect anything wrong with cards that use his products. THAT is a ringing endorsement that Kurts Card Care works and works well within PSA's guidelines of authentictaion.
I think of baseball cards as art. And people have great Art restored. And that art is still a masterpiece. If you can restore a 1965 Mickey Mantle than why not. Guys you decided but if I can take creases out than why not.
PSA never deactivated anything Kurt said it was all rumors anyways. You can tell Kurt is a good guy. I bought one of His kits recently and I’m ok w the results.
I have a question, PSA just released that they are doing a PSA 10 Prep thing that you can pay $15 and they will prep your card for you, do you think they are only using a microfiber to justify charging you $15, I think not, it is my belief they are using items similar to Kurt's, I said this a month ago when PSA attacked Kurt that PSA would develope their own or hire someone to develope something similar and claim it's safer than Kurt's,
From my experience cleaning off track marks, it is inevitable that you will need to use some sort of agent to remove said marks. I think it's a money-making sceme like their new game worn cards.
In all fairness, it is good to be objective. However, if I may, bare metal will oxidize with nothing on it. So I am not sure your experiment will tell you anything. Furthermore, your furniture polish is acidic. So there’s that. At the end of the day, you can get a chemical analysis done at a lab. It will tell you everything that is in these products. People need to remember that with anything it is how you apply the products. I believe certain applications with this stuff should be fine and non detectable. While others will obviously lead to detection. PSA and other grading companies are concerned if these products have long term ramifications because they have to stand by their grades. It is my understanding/opinion that as long as you aren’t using anything with fillers as well using DI water or IPA to remove any polish/wax residue, the card should be fine and stand the test of time. I have been a surface technician/detailer for many years. A lot of collectors do not have the same background as I do in understanding the technology behind waxes and polishes/compounds. I think a lot of this hooplah is driven by a lot of misunderstanding and misguided opinions of many in the industry. Either way to each their own.
I messaged Kurt on Instagram yesterday asking some questions as I was interested. He responded back with 3 different minute long voice messages and multiple links. What a super nice guy!
I have no doubts about the kind of guy he is. That is not in question as I never once slandered him. The issue is whether or not PSA, SGC or any of the grading companies will allow the use of his kit and they made it clear.
@@TheCarolinaCollector I get what you are saying. However I think that this shows that their detection methods or what they say they do on inspection might not be 100% true. If Kurt’s methods restore cards naturally without alteration then I have no problem with it. The question is if there are long term effects that could cause the card to degrade overtime. Eventually someone will have the items tested in a lab and we will know for sure.
So what's to say I couldn't buy a card off eBay that someone used Kurt's on, which I purchased without knowing that, and then I send it in to get graded ? As a buyer and grader I would be at fault? How would anyone know if any ungraded vintage single hasn't been "restored" at some point?
I did not like seeing Kurts card bubbling on the video. That showed it was some type of chemical. But other than that I think what he does is fine. Water, humidity, and manipulation on a card are not altering the card. Polishing doesn't remove creases.
Appreciate the fact that you’re remaining objective. I’m certainly guilty of being a bit too reactionary at the beginning of this whole controversy. My viewpoint nowadays centers around disclosure. If people want to clean/soak their cards for their personal PC, I see no problem with that. The main issue at hand is trying to pass it through grading companies who are against the practices, and ultimately the end buyer, while hiding what was done.
