  • In February of 2015, I chanced upon Nigel Stanford’s video “Cymatics: Science Vs Music.” Since then, I have been amazed and intrigued by cymatics - the science of visualising sound.
    Sonic Explorations is the first culmination of my experimenting, with partner-in-crime Shehzad Jeevaji. This live audiovisual experience was performed in October 2015 at the Queensland Academy of Creative Industries, as a part of the Festival of Australian Student Theatre (FAST) 2015 in Brisbane, Australia.

    I completely concur, and have to ever notice that no matter what you are paying attention to the object was completely created by a serial sound at that. Makes sense considering we humans think about, Dream about and obsesse about it 7:52 7:52 7:52

    Are these being played at standard A440hz concert pitch? And, would these shapes maximized or more defined if Scientific pitch was used?

    • @DiveaksshSchae
      @DiveaksshSchae  6 месяцев назад

      It depends on the experiment. With the chladni plate (salt plate), you need to first find the fundamental frequency of the plate (that which it resonates wildly at).
      This could be any random frequency, based on the mass and size of the plate.
      Using harmonic series theory, you can then find other notes such as its octave and fifth, and create music using those notes.
      With other ones like the water in a woofer, literally any bass frequency will provide interesting results.
      Therefore the beauty of cymatics lies in nature's response to sound based on pure physics, rather than man made theories such as scientific pitch, or 440 vs 428 hz tuning. Hope that helps!

      How can that be? As I understand, specific notes DO create distinct shapes. I just looked it up and found diagrams showing specific frequencies for concrete shapes. Which was my question: are there specific frequencies that maximize the shape?
      Also, Scientific Pitch (C256/A432) is not a “theory” of man, it its a scientific observation of numbers that follow harmonics. They even use A432hz tuning forks at your regular Doctors’s office to test for nerve sensitivity, etc.
      Maybe I’m wrong here. Are your really saying that specific musical notes do NOT generate specific patterns? @@DiveaksshSchae

    For the speaker experiments, what speaker did you use?

    • @DiveaksshSchae
      @DiveaksshSchae  2 года назад +2

      Hey Joshua! As we were budget constrained, most of the speakers were cheap, re-used ones. For example, we went to a car wreckers and pulled out the speakers of an old car. Or a second hand shop which sold used speakers at a discount. All passive speakers powered by amplifiers. Hope this helps!

      May I ask why using car speaker vs regular speaker? I did this test with water and salt on a UKIAH firepit speaker. Salt moved and jumped/excited resonace at 150hz. What hz are you using
