Hi Gary, Thank you so much for visiting Tharavadu and for your incredible review. We are truly honored to be rated as the best restaurant you’ve ever been to! It brings us immense joy to know that you had a great time with us. Seeing our hard work and dedication recognized on a national level means the world to our entire team. We look forward to welcoming you back soon for another delightful experience! Best regards, Team Tharavadu
I’m not like;y to be able to try this, but the food looks incredible. Just the colours and presentation alone give you a taste, everything looks so fresh too.
You & the team should be very proud of the excellent dining experience you have created. The food looked totally delicious and wonderful, & fully deserved of Gary's very complimentary review.. 👏
I've seen Gary satisfied, I've seen him very satisfied, I've seen him delighted, but I've never seen him so excited, almost at a loss for words. Must be one hell of a restaurant.
I am from southern India and specifically from Kerala. Thank you for loving our food so much. Our cuisine is coconut based because the very word Kerala means the coconut palm. So glad you enjoyed it so much.
Just come across this video. My wife, adult son and myself were in Leeds on a visit to the UK from Canada last September. We are all curry lovers and asked the hotel if there was a restaurant they could recommend. They recommended Tharavadu, but told us to book or we wouldn't get a seat. We had to be helped by the incredibly friendly waiter to order our food because we weren't familiar with the Kerala menu. What we finished up ordering was the best curry any of us had ever eaten. I think your review is right on the mark, this has got to be one of the best restaurants we have ever eaten in too.
I agree Gary - Southern Indian food is a delight -when backpacking in India I was coming back from seeing the "Ajanta/Ellora " cave temples on my way back to Pune - met up with a German hippy guy & he took me to a bus station(no tourists) for something to eat (I was apprehensive) & we had the "Masala Dosa" it cost next to nothing & was one of the best meals I had during my travels throughout the country. Excellent review Gary 👍
OMG I'm out with clients in 2 weeks so close to this restaurant, am I booking a table for dinner with them you know I am. As always Gary your channel stands out from the crowd for honest reviews & great content 👏
Man alive Gary, you’ve done it again. Some of your viewer recommendations deserve the highest praise. I was in hospital for several months this year and half the nurses were from Kerala and I loved chatting with them and learning about their paradise homeland and learning about their cuisine and local life. I’ll never forget it and you have just brought it home. Another way point now added for my travels for when I’m driving/biking again. Cheers fella. ❤
It is a paradise no Keralite wants to stay in.They run out of their state either for studies or jobs and tell the whole world about their paradise 😂😂😂😂😂
Fantastic review as always Gary. I married a south Indian woman. South Indian food is my absolute favorite food as well, and also the only food our young kids will both eat without complaint every single time! Glad you enjoyed it.

I could eat Masala Dosa every day of my life. I have had the pleasure of living in in SE Asia for 25 years where Dosa is available with a couple of cups of Teh Halia (Ginger Tea....Black tea with condensed milk and ginger boiled into it) It is the perfect breakfast for me. I am pleased you have found it. The Roti Paratha also look delicious and flaky as it should be also with dipping sauces. Brilliant.

I have just moved to Leeds and was on the lookout for quality Indian cuisine. I tried because of your review. Your review was spot on, sensational food. Thanks
Great to watch this - we had an incredible holiday in Kerala a few years back. Highlight was 3 days on a houseboat on the backwaters (think exotic Norfolk Broads!). It was the most luxurious experience we’ve ever had and the crew of 3 knocked up the most amazing cuisine imaginable.
Great to see you get excited about the food and how you slow down on actually saying your thoughts when the meal is that exceptional, yet another top review, just the tonic I needed after seeing all the issues in the UK at the moment and I thank you for that sir.
This Kerala cuisine looked absolutely amazing. The presentation, the flavors, and that huge bread . Understandably that score is so justified. I wish there was a branch in London. Its so lovely to see you Gary with that big smile and a contented tummy at the end of it. Thankyou for sharing the best ever experience
I'm not Indian, but I follow a food and travel RUclipsr from Kerala, Ebbin Jose, on his channel Food N Travel. He comments in Malayalam but always has subtitles in English. I've learnt a lot about Keralan food through him.
(172) South Indian food is quite reliant on coconut; it is the main coconut-growing region of the country. I've watched someone make the flaky flat bread; what a "moo" of a job that is. But it is SO GOOD. Great upload, Gary!!!

I've been too Gary (couple of years pre COVID when I was working up in Leeds) and it is amazing and has been around for years! Loving how your channel is growing! Nice one and well done!
Only discovered this channel quite recently, as it turned up on my recommended. Now I can safely say that it's one of my favourites! I just can't stop watching your reviews! Thank you for doing these videos Gary.
i Live in Qatar and, across the Middle East, there are a massive number of Kerala ex-pats working here. Authentic Kerala food is simply amazing - totally different to what British call "Indian" food.
Indian restaurants in UK are mostly owned and run by Bangladeshi s. They cater for a British taste and have an almost uniform menu across the country. India is a vast country where there is a large variety of cuisine from the various regions. So really there is no such thing as Indian cuisine. There is regional cuisine from the various parts of India.
I love Indian food..it looks great and by the sounds of it , it tastes great.....so many places get Indian food wrong and rare to find authentic Indian food as it's best.
Hi Gary, I am quite often up in Leeds for work, teaching up there. But I have never heen to this restaurant, have heard about it, but never gotten around to get my behind in gear. But that food looked and sounded absolutely amazing. So next time I am up North I will definitely go there and have a wonderful meal. Never tried southern Indian cuisine before and it's obvious about time, from your review. Made me hungry again, Gary! 😋 An absolutely wonderful review and so insightful so I could almost taste the meal. Have a wonderful rest of your time up North and looking forward to hearing from you, mate! Now, we are going out with some friends for a tapas night, as the tradition is up in the whole of the North of Spain, you go from place to place, having a couple of tapas and a couple of beers. So I am afraid all the work I did in the gym this morning, was for nothing! 😬
Hi Gary, love watching your videos! I’m a doctor training in London but born and bred in Mumbai, India. I spent around 18 months living in Portsmouth whilst working there. I would highly recommend ‘Desi’ which is an Indian restaurant serving some of the best and most authentic Indian food including the likes of Yoghurt Chaat, Vada Pav (Indian street food burger), Biryani and lots more. I make it a point to visit them whenever I travel to Portsmouth. Keep making these amazing videos. Take care 😊
Welcome to the cuisine from south India. Glad you enjoyed it! The typical curry house in the UK served food from Punjab in the north. Completely different spice pallet and cooking techniques used in the south. Btw the Dosa is made with fermented batter and is usually enjoyed for breakfast.
There are actually more Keralan restaurants in Leeds, one on Briggate where you walk upstairs. I enjoy Keralan food as we've spent a month touring Kerala several years ago, The Land of the Coconuts is its name and the thallis are fantastic....local food there is extremely cheap and absolutely delicious.
Hey Gary, so glad you've found Keralan food. It's our favourite too. We live in a small town, Newark, but we are very fortunate in having a wonderful Keralan restaurant here. It is consistently top of the TA ratings and the food is amazing. It is called Koinonia, located in the centre at 19 St Mark's Lane, Newark NG24 1XS. In addition to a full menu they also do a lunchtime small Thali for £7.95. Do "give it a go" if you are ever in Newark. We shall certainly try Tharavadu when we can.
Ahhh I saw your comment that there is a Kerala restaurant in Newark, got excited to try only to realise it is in Newark UK, not Newark New Jersey US, just the other side of the ocean
@@usnasi4439 Who'd have thought there was a Newark in the USA? The real one is in Nottinghamshire, its full name is Newark-on-Trent. Maybe one day there will be a Keralan restaurant in your little Newark too.
Gary you bring me back to the early days of youtube, where it wasn't tv 2.0. The professional image quality you have aside, your review feels like it's coming from a real person, not a brand or persona. It feels personal and genuine and i hope you two can keep it that way. Convoluted way of me saying, stay who you are, it's so pleasant to watch. /edit i have never seen indian food looking so good. especially in terms of presentation i find it usually rather lacking, but this was top notch.
This show just gets better every episode. I now want to jump in my car from Essex and drive to this restaurant. Maybe not tonight but definitely in the next few weeks. Keep up the great work. Terry v
Great food Gary, but I have just rushed off to answer the phone, even the second time I almost went! This place looks amazing and outstanding. Wish I was there!
Love your honest views Gary, especially when it comes down to visiting restaurants run by celebrities. When you work so hard to achieve the best, you deserve all the acolades bestowed upon you. So glad to hear the waiters were not stuffy or arrogant, but friendly and welcoming. Food looked delicious and fabulously presented.
I live in an indian food desert, we have a few places but they're not great, so I've been learning to cook indian recipes from YT. Has to be my favorite cuisine. This looks great!
Good evening Gary. Great to see you again! I'm sure like me many subscribers look forward to 6pm for a smile and a great tonic. Cheers and once again thanks!!! Stephen.
Thank you Gary, this is out favourite Indian restaurant, did you know when the cricket team from India visit Headingley they always visit here. We love it and glad you felt the same. Excellent review. Made us want to go again!
Gary, your experience shows that there are " experts" in quisine that are just dedicated people. It proves you don't need Gordon Ramsy to produce quality food, in a spectacular way. The dishes were unbelievably artistic as well as quality. Well done to the culinary artist who produced the food.👏👏👏
Just looks so, so proper. Reminds me of the curries the migrant workers in Minhad would lay on once a week. The bread from the clay circular ovens came out light and fluffy like that. The variety and depth of flavour on offer was thrilling. Meals were a treat, a real social event.
Thanks for visiting Tharavadu Gary! It's my #1 recommendation to ANYONE who asks about good places to eat in Leeds for all the reasons you covered. Since the place opened it's been knockout and hasn't gone down a level, always been fair value and I'm glad you picked up on the atmosphere and feeling of the place being warm and welcoming. I've eaten here more times than I can count but I never get sick of it it's a real treat. Glad you got to experience it and thanks for popping back to Leeds!
Our friend Rick Stein did a series on southern Indian cuisine quite a few years ago. He explored some amazing cooking from there. Indian food at its best.
Gary… as a curry enthousiast, the ‘bread’, sauces… the simplicity, the purity… this video was again a treat!! And the background… the renovation 😂😂😂 Your left arm/hand… how are things going with that? I am a nurse… so looking at it 😉
Dear Gary, Thank you for another great video! Thanks to you I refreshed my friendships in the UK. I went to visit friends up north in Middlesbrough (still not able to conquer the mighty Parmo) Then I went to visit the Midlands and met up with an ex-Royal Marine friend. And last I went to Bushey to meet a friend. So many great memories. Such amazing friendships. Gary, as always, thanks to you for being such a friendly, well behaved, lovely person. It’s what we need during these times. And if you ever find yourself in The Netherlands: Allow me to take you for a meal
I lived in Cochin Kerala for 6 months, fell in love with the vegetarian, paneer and fish dishes there - the people were different too - much calmer - great review Gary
Twenty years ago me and my then partner and now wife travelled around the world. Our last stop was India. We had Northern Indian curry in Rhajastan and Delhi it was amazing. We then got a 2 day sleeper train to Kerala. The food and people were so different. We stayed in Cochin and kovalam on the coast and ate this cuisine to our hearts content. At the coast you have clifftop restaurants that have the days catch stored on ice. We chose king and swordfish by the thickness of your choice, they quickly chop it to size and bring it in a Keralan Curry in minutes. Just amazing. Also in Kerala you can rent a huge riceboat with a crew of 3. This includes a chef ! We had one night, evening meal and breakfast and toured the backwater canals . It's the Indian equivalent of the Norfolk broads I guess. Back in the day it cost £30 but it's an absolute must. We travelled up the coast to Goa to finish our trip and fell in love with this amazing coconut based cuisine. A totally different taste to our English curry house palate.
I live in Kerala state in India, love your videos. Just looked it up -Tharavadu means -family which keeps the values of tradition. Must be owned by a native of my state. Keep it up Gary!
@@GaryEats Hi Gary...would like to recommend you to to try Parsi food (if you can find it in the UK)...Persian and Indian fusion food made by the Parsi's who escaped persecution in their country in olden times and were given sanctuary in India. They are also known as Zoroastrians.
Cant lie, that looked incredible. The lamb, the curry, the dosa that was the size of a rolled up carpet - all amazing. Two tens in quick succession too!

So glad that you got to try the cuisine of my birthplace, Kerala!. Has always been underrated. Please do try the Kerala beef roast along with Kerala parotta when you get a chance..it's really good.
@@rosemarymeeVegetarian meals (rice with a variety of vegetarian curries) could be your ticket. IMHO, Kerala style biryani is very good. Try vegetarian biryani too.
@@rosemarymee No, there are many types - I think most uses rice in some quantities. Wheat, except in Kerala style parathas and some dosas, is not that common as it's not grown in Kerala. Now, bread as in 🍞, yes it uses 00 flour or semolina or a mix of them.

@@GaryEats 6 of ate us there last night and all of us were blown away, the place was packed out and you always have a slight concern that standards may drop, but those fears were completely unfounded. I started off with the Chilli Paneer which set the bar high for flavour and presentation which only got better with the arrival of my Kerela Curry. Outstanding meal and well recommended with a very reasonable cost for the quality. Cheers again Gary for the review!!
Hi Gary, great review as always. Was wondering whether you can put something in the description in reference to if the restaurant serves halal meat or not. Some of us will not eat Halal meat so it would be useful. Many thanks
If subscribers like the look of a restaurant Gary has reviewed & want to visit, it would probably be easier for people to check certifications and/or dietary requirements themselves, via the restaurant website. I think that is on the subscriber to check, rather than Gary adding this information to his reviews.
Hello Gary .I love lamb and that lamb dish looked stunning. I love the way you explain what you can actually taste , eg spices , seasoning, flavours whether the meat is tender or not. The dishes looked so delicious. Thank you for sharing sweet x 😊

Just loved the review, and I'm not even a foodie!😅
(172) South Indian food is quite reliant on coconut; it is the main coconut-growing region of the country. I've watched someone make the flaky flat bread; what a "moo" of a job that is. But it is SO GOOD. Great upload, Gary!!!
Absolutely delicious, loved it!!

That’s very kind to say, Simon thank you
I've been too Gary (couple of years pre COVID when I was working up in Leeds) and it is amazing and has been around for years! Loving how your channel is growing! Nice one and well done!
Brilliant!! Thank you Damian
Gary Eats... You're a bad bad man! I'm tormented now because we have nothing like that near us. Another excellent find and review.
Lol I'm so sorry my good friend
Sounds like Kayal in Nottingham. Loads of coconut and mustard seeds in the cooking. Fantastic stuff.
Hi Gary, as always, let’s give it a go! Looks like you’ve caught the sun in the last few days too 👍
Thank you very much
Only discovered this channel quite recently, as it turned up on my recommended. Now I can safely say that it's one of my favourites! I just can't stop watching your reviews! Thank you for doing these videos Gary.
That is very kind to say thank you very much strength
i Live in Qatar and, across the Middle East, there are a massive number of Kerala ex-pats working here. Authentic Kerala food is simply amazing - totally different to what British call "Indian" food.
You are very lucky as I think the food is amazing
Indian restaurants in UK are mostly owned and run by Bangladeshi s. They cater for a British taste and have an almost uniform menu across the country.
India is a vast country where there is a large variety of cuisine from the various regions. So really there is no such thing as Indian cuisine. There is regional cuisine from the various parts of India.
I don't think I have ever seen 'Indian' food presented so beautifully. That food looked amazing. A great choice & a great vid Gary.
It was art on a plate Ian, superb!
what a brilliant video, definitely opens your eyes to southern india cuisine. Great work garry
I really appreciate that, thank you so much Tom
I love Indian food..it looks great and by the sounds of it , it tastes great.....so many places get Indian food wrong and rare to find authentic Indian food as it's best.
This is simply outstanding
Really hope you enjoyed your tapas Frank. I do need to come to the north of Spain soon!! I really appreciate that, have a lovely weekend
Wow, looks incredible. A 10 and then a 10* back to back! Thanks for sharing your experiences, both of you.
I really appreciate that, thank you so much Stephen!
Take care 😊
Thank you my friend. Thank you for being an amazing person
I just recently discovered your channel and I love it Gary! Thank you for your content!
Chris from the USA.
Thank you very much for watching and commenting Chris
Welcome to the cuisine from south India. Glad you enjoyed it! The typical curry house in the UK served food from Punjab in the north. Completely different spice pallet and cooking techniques used in the south. Btw the Dosa is made with fermented batter and is usually enjoyed for breakfast.
Thank you for all the information, Bob
There are actually more Keralan restaurants in Leeds, one on Briggate where you walk upstairs.
I enjoy Keralan food as we've spent a month touring Kerala several years ago, The Land of the Coconuts is its name and the thallis are fantastic....local food there is extremely cheap and absolutely delicious.
Thank you very much for the recommendations, Barbara. I will bear in mind for the future.
It's excellent. I will try my best!!
Think about daily we are making it in home 😂
Ahhh I saw your comment that there is a Kerala restaurant in Newark, got excited to try only to realise it is in Newark UK, not Newark New Jersey US, just the other side of the ocean
@@usnasi4439 Who'd have thought there was a Newark in the USA? The real one is in Nottinghamshire, its full name is Newark-on-Trent. Maybe one day there will be a Keralan restaurant in your little Newark too.
Been there, I agree that it's awesome in every respect except there's no bloke bouncing salt off his elbow
😂😂😂
Some people with more money than sense would rather go to that salt bai nonsense than a decent restaurant like this.
Well, "no bloke bouncing salt off his elbow" should give them an extra star. So 11 stars out of 10.
😂😂

Gary you bring me back to the early days of youtube, where it wasn't tv 2.0. The professional image quality you have aside, your review feels like it's coming from a real person, not a brand or persona. It feels personal and genuine and i hope you two can keep it that way.
Convoluted way of me saying, stay who you are, it's so pleasant to watch.
/edit i have never seen indian food looking so good. especially in terms of presentation i find it usually rather lacking, but this was top notch.
That is a very kind comment to make thank you very much
I agree with you. There's no bias or agenda. Gary's enthusiasm for food experiences shines through.
This show just gets better every episode. I now want to jump in my car from Essex and drive to this restaurant. Maybe not tonight but definitely in the next few weeks. Keep up the great work. Terry v

Another great video, Gary! Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!! Top man Billy
This was a wonderful restaurant and one I highly recommend and congratulations to the owners, the staff and the chefs
I live in an indian food desert, we have a few places but they're not great, so I've been learning to cook indian recipes from YT. Has to be my favorite cuisine. This looks great!
May I recommend that you invest in a copy of "The Curry Guy Bible" by Dan Toombs??? You won't regret it. 😉
Mick Crawford's BIR books are good. One has South Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken recipe that is superb
This was excellent Nick, have a look for some new recipes!
Go to "the backyard chef-Ric,and his other channel NOT ANOTHER CURRY?his presentation and recipes are bang on and easy to follow?

Thank you Gary, this is out favourite Indian restaurant, did you know when the cricket team from India visit Headingley they always visit here. We love it and glad you felt the same. Excellent review. Made us want to go again!
Wow that's great to hear, it's a spectacular restaurant and deserves all the credit in the world
Gary, your experience shows that there are " experts" in quisine that are just dedicated people. It proves you don't need Gordon Ramsy to produce quality food, in a spectacular way. The dishes were unbelievably artistic as well as quality. Well done to the culinary artist who produced the food.👏👏👏
Spot on, this was art on a plate!
Bloody love this channel, it has really grown on me. You're doing a great job Gary.
That’s very kind to say, thank you very much, Rich
Just looks so, so proper. Reminds me of the curries the migrant workers in Minhad would lay on once a week. The bread from the clay circular ovens came out light and fluffy like that. The variety and depth of flavour on offer was thrilling. Meals were a treat, a real social event.
It was absolutely incredible George. Flavours are wonderful
All I could do was look in amazement and drool at the mouth. What a fantastic restaurant. Great video Gary, thank you.
I really appreciate that, have a lovely weekend!!

Dear Gary,
Thank you for another great video!

And if you ever find yourself in The Netherlands: Allow me to take you for a meal
That is a wonderful comment. I am so pleased for you. Well done.
I lived in Cochin Kerala for 6 months, fell in love with the vegetarian, paneer and fish dishes there - the people were different too - much calmer - great review Gary
That is fantastic to hear. I really enjoyed the food from southern India.
Thank you very much for watching all the way from India 🇮🇳

IMHO, Kerala style biryani is very good. Try vegetarian biryani too.
@@TheDumbTake-xb6rr Sounds great! Are all the varieties of bread made with wheat?

Many thanks
I understand your point, but you’ll have to go to their website to find out
If subscribers like the look of a restaurant Gary has reviewed & want to visit, it would probably be easier for people to check certifications and/or dietary requirements themselves, via the restaurant website. I think that is on the subscriber to check, rather than Gary adding this information to his reviews.
Hello Gary .I love lamb and that lamb dish looked stunning. I love the way you explain what you can actually taste , eg spices , seasoning, flavours whether the meat is tender or not.
