The plants have creatures living in them and they get eaten by plant eaters. The plant eaters brew the live bugs in their stomachs along with their own which makes a cocktail of all kinds of crazy bacteria that multiply abundantly of which then the herbivore digests as food rather then the just the plant material itself. This makes even the plant eaters carnivores along with plants. Everything HERE on the plane of existence kills and eats something else. Everything is doing it just look into it more. Humans cannot digest fiber from plants and do not have a bacteria as a cow to break the fiber down and create the various bacteria to feed on the plant material and make tons of bacteria to digest. You see, a cow is a carnivore because it's feeding actually on the bacteria more so then the plant itself. It ferments inside its stomach and we cannot do that. We have a carnivore stomach that only is made from meat just as a wolf or a lion. Our intestines are identical to a carnivores. 😏

      @mchooksis 5 лет назад +7

      @@shannybananny68 Ah come on, shannybananny68, the talk is one and a half hours long. As I said, pretty well everything he says is rubbish and/or totally irrelevant. where do you want me to begin? If I was to go through everything that is wrong with this talk, it would take a book.
      Like most Vegans he is convinced that when research talks about a plant based diet being the best for us, that they actually mean plant "only" diet. They don't. Most people in the world eat a plant based diet consisting of vegetables, roots and fruit making up the bulk of most cultures' diets with a small amount of meat , eggs and dairy. This is the healthiest diet for us. There is no culture anywhere in the world that is Vegan , never has been. Why is that, if it is so healthy for us?
      He starts off 1.52. "We stop getting sick and get well " when we eat a plant diet. He is implying that meat causes everyone to be sick.. That is ridiculous. Is he implying that everyone in the world who eats meat is sick and that only vegans are healthy? He seems to assume that the whole world follows the unhealthy american diet of high sugar, over consumption of meat, too few veggies, and no fruit unless it is fortified with tons of sugar. They don't. Of course Americans get sick. Most of the world don't!
      He spends most of the talk pointing out the traits we DON'T share with carnivores, and extolling the traits we DO share with herbivores. He conveniently leaves out the traits we express that ARE very useful to us as meat eaters, and leaves out the traits we express that we DON't share with herbivores. That's convenient, isn't it?
      But the whole thing is irrelevant anyway> Why is he spending hours telling us what carnivores have and can do , compared to us? No one is saying we are carnivores. We are OMNIVORES! there is no argument left on that one. Every trait we display points to us being omnivores. We are able to eat and digest meat and plant very efficiently. We are very efficient hunters, and very efficient gatherers. Are skills have made us the most successful animal on this planet, able to sustain ourselves in virtually every ecological niche, and adapt very rapidly to changing environments.
      Has he ever spent any time with indigenous hunter gatherers?. How does he explain their feeding culture? How would he explain to the Inuit or the Sami or the Baju of Indonesia that really they should not be eating meat or fish, because us Humans are really herbivores? The whole concept is ridiculous.
      It would be easier if you picked out some points that you think are highly relevant to us being herbivores, and I will tell you where he is wrong. This is taking much too long to write. There is so much here I just don't know where to begin. The guys an idiot, and I really can't be bothered with him. If you cannot see that, then I really have no words to add.

    • @whosDori
      @whosDori 5 лет назад +5

      @@mchooksis First of all, "There is no culture anywhere in the world that is Vegan, never has been." The Okinawa diet was 97% plant foods, about 1% fish, 1% dairy, 1% eggs, and 90% of that was whole foods so rarely any processed foods. If you are suggesting that the 3% of animal products is what made it the healthiest diet you are mad.
      "He convveniently leaves out the traits we express that are very useful to us as meat eaters." He has limited time he needs to get to the point and not waste time to give as much info as he can in that time frame.
      "Has he ever spent any time with indigenous hunter gatherers?" Doesn't matter about them because they are in a survival state all the time. We have supermarkets where we can choose what we eat three times a day, they don't.

    • @inongekhabele
      @inongekhabele 5 лет назад +5

      HarryGJ excellent points! I come straight from indigenous people and believe me, my people do not live in a “survival state” but live in harmony with all nature (plants and animals) and consume them all. Organic living, with reverence and affection for the animals. We take loving care of them and they give us more life and health. Their live bodies fertilize the soil so plants are healthy and their milk strengthens us. Their bodies give us the 50+ fat-soluble nutrients only animal products provide. No need for supplements. The fruits, herbs and vegetables cleanse and heal. Many fermented dairy and vegetable dishes. When I was a vegan of nine years, I looked down on my culture’s foods practices, but when my body began cannibalizing itself and I almost lost my life due to multi-organ failure despite hundreds of dollars a month in supplements, I had no choice but to either open my mind or leave four children without a mother.

    Very informative lecture but missing a few points.
    If humans were only meant to eat plants, why do we have acidic stomachs (1.5 - 3.5) similar to other meat eating animals?
    Why did our human ancestors have bone collagen carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios similar or higher than other high level carnivores, indicating that our human ancestors ate a meat heavy diet?
    Why did megafauna suddenly become extinct when humans entered Australia and America?
    How did humans survive through the Ice Age when it’s highly unlikely edible plants were available?
    Why do humans need vitamin B12 and we can only get it in nature by eating animals foods?
    Why do plant foods contain omega-3 in ALA form, which is highly un-bioavailable to humans? Why do animals foods contain omega-3 in more bioavailable forms of EPA & DHA, what our bodies really need?
    You could make just as many arguments as to why humans need animals foods in their diets. Every nutrient that is required by humans is more bioavailable and in greater quantities when consumed from animal foods. The only nutrient found more in plant foods is vitamin C.

    • @daw7773
      @daw7773 5 лет назад +4

      Veganism is the original diet for human consumption due to anatomical and physiological reasons. Humans migrated out of their original habitat Africa which is very hot even during the Ice age the temperature was warm. The Ice age affected humans who migrated to places like Europe, North America etc. Humans could only eat meat(animals) after the invention "tools" (e.g knife,spear,gun) and discovering fire. Humans are the only mammals that need "tools" and/or fire in order provide a palatable meal. Why ? Meat eating is not human's natural diet but it is the lion's natural diet. Humans have adapted to eating meat out of necessity (e.g Ice age,lack of vegetation). Therefore, I understand your argument but there are many people who chose to eat the original diet.
      Before the application of mass farming technology and chemical(pesticides) usage, Humans got B12 vitamin from the root of vegetables,dirt and streams of water which were created by bugs. In fact this is how ALL mammals got efficient amounts of B12. Even the cow which is vegan and the human consumes in order to get B12 ??? I will not argue that there are some nutritional value in some meat but Americans eat way too much meat . We are paying a heavy price by having high rates of Cancer, Hypertension, Diabetes,Coronary artery disease.
      Human groups that have historically lived a long and healthy lives (e.g Blue zones) eat diets consisting of primarily none or very little meat and high vegetable/fruit consumption. For example Okinawa,Japan and Loma Linda, California.

      @@polishprince9086 Because everything that Mills says is wrong. He is comparing other carnivores to humans. We are not other carnivores, we are humans and we are carnivores. Except for the last 10,000 years or so humans have eaten mostly meat for the past 380,000 years and for nearly four million years before that in earlier species. Search for "The evolution of the human trophic level during the Pleistocene". This shows through the actual science of stable isotope testing that humans are carnivores. This is actual empirical scientific evidence, not some random mumblings of a person who has no qualifications to speak on this subject but is only looking to justify his ideology and spread propaganda.
      Other points that show that we are meant to eat meat:
      1. We have one of the most acidic stomach acids of any animal. Ideal for digesting meat in our stomach.
      2. Compared to other primates we have a relatively large small intestine. This is great for absorbing the nutrients from meat.
      3.Compared to other primates we have a very small large intestine. This is our colon. We don't have a big large intestine so we can't ferment large quantities of plant material.
      4. We don't really have a caecum anymore. All that is left of it is our appendix. Other primates have a large caecum to help ferment plant material.
      5. Humans are amazing hunters with one of the highest hunting success rates of any animal. We use our opposable thumbs to make and use weapons. We are very good at throwing. We use communication to work as a team. We have even trained other animals, dogs and birds, to help us catch our prey. By using all of these skills we are able to kill prey that are far bigger, stronger or faster than us.
      Mills can argue as much as he wants about teeth, speed and strength etc but all of those are negated because we didn't need to evolve these things as we evolved plenty of other skills instead. For example, we don't need big pointy teeth as we don't tend to catch our prey with our mouth! We use spears, knives, clubs, nets etc, which are much more effective and allow use to attack from a safer distance.
      Hope my comment makes sense and helps you understand that Mills isn't actually looking at the science at all. Let me know what you think but only after you have read the study that I have cited. Sorry I can't put a direct link but RUclips won't allow me to. Again, search for "The evolution of the human trophic level during the Pleistocene". Good luck 😃

    He makes a very strong case for a plant based diet. This said, our closest genetic cousins, the chimpanzees, also eat some animal proteins. There is of course also the field of anthropology, and the record is clear that all of our ancestors have eaten some meat for hundreds of thousands, if not millions of years. So the most natural human diet is probably scavenged fruits and starches with occasional doses of meat, if the opportunity came.

    • @Wolf88888
      @Wolf88888 Месяц назад

      Actually, there is a preponderance of paleontological evidence that clearly shows our early ancestors ate a diet that primarily consisted of meat and was supplemented by additional plant products such as berries, nuts, etc. This is typical of even the remaining hunter-gatherer tribes still existing on the planet. Personally, although I sympathize with vegetarians and vegans from an ethical standpoint (I love animals and hate the idea of eating them), I also believe that the optimal human diet is primarily carnivore.

    So much misinformation that i wonder if this guy is an doctor. Or he shouldn't be one. Seems like it was alot easier before to become a doctor...
    Very important to mention about so much about carnivores, but humans are no prey. We hunt in packs, a singel human is a prey, just like a sick or injured animal. We dont need to be able to run, as we use tools.We are not the only animal using tools, but we moved away from sticks and rocks, also developed a advanced language. No other animal have manage that
    Herbivores can see almost 180 degrees on both sides on their heads, have excellent smell and hearing. Humans have neither.
    Herbivores also only see black and white... Carnivores sees colours, now let that sink in for a moment. Human eyesight is also movement based... Now let that sink in for a moment.
    This is known facts, been for decades. IF something moves and its in your eyesight your eyes will focus on it automatically, its a KNOWN fact.
    The Neanderthal was more armoured than the modern human, it is showed that they had stronger bones, more muscle mass and had redused pain receptors, they could take a beating, but breaking a leg or an arm was a death sentence then, just as it is for carnivores.
    Modern man or Homo Sapiens cook their food, yes we do, we are the only animal who does. Therefore we dont need strong jaw muscles or teeth or specialised guts for raw meat as we dont eat raw meat. We are also the only animal who started with agriculture... Now let that sink in for a moment. Also our brain development increased when we stared to cook our food.
    That made human evolution not needing to be armoured like the Neanderthal or like previous human hybrids. As modern human used more advanced tools that where more advanced than stones and sticks.
    Also when humans hunted easy prey was like the carnivore example, hunting sick and injured animals, today is trophy hunting, it cant compare to early modern human living.
    It is also showed in research that language came from the female population as humans are pretty vulnerable as children, so females was gatherers and the men hunters, and as carnivores, hunts where not always successful. But the total energy gained from a kill was worth the hunt, as plants dont cut it in the long run. Can just refer to Africa today, where many eat a plant based diet, but eating animals as soon they get their hands on one, and they are Vitamin A deficient. thanks to the plant based diet they consume to gain energy.
    Also human babies cant be longer in the vom than 9 month, as the head gets to big, and the baby desires more energy than its possible for the mother to get.
    Damn basic doctor knowlege...
    Also herbivores babies can run from the second they hit the ground, he forgot to mention that... Can human babies do that?
    No they are pretty helpless like carnivore babies. Also not many carnivores lives in packs so they need to have many offsprings as many will die, herbivores lives in packs and can protect their young, and no need to have many offspring.
    And lets continue with eyesight and night vision, humans are a day creature, not a night creature.
    A cat are more active during the night than the day for example. So who need a good night vision then?
    So are wolfs, large cats and so on, doesn't mean that they cant hunt or do stuff during the day, same as humans. But then again, humans hunt during the day and then we need better eyesight during the day than during the night, its called evolution.
    Also wolfs have a pretty good smell as well... they are the primal dog...
    So if this was delivered as a school assignment, he would get an big F, as its all wrong even in 2007!
    Just freaking common teachings in normal schools, and when a doctor dont know that, I would be scared, very scared, because what more can he be wrong about.

Fasting is good, but not as a lifestyle. Even 30 days is pushing it. Also - plants produce toxins to defend themselves from what are prey to them. Plants are best eaten with animal products, and most plants need to be cooked, blanched, and fermented to take away most of the toxins and be made more digestible.

    No, we are not carnivores we are omnivores and the proper diet is fueled primarily with fat, protein and fiber rich leafy greens and vegetables. We are NOT meant to consume a majority of carbs. We can look through the history of agriculture and how it led to sedentary life and dietary related illnesses. There is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate, none, zero, zilch, nada. It's not necessary. You WILL get sick and die without consuming essentual proteins and fats however. Plant based diets can provide SOME analogs of the nutrients we require, but a PROPER human diet contains all of them in BIO AVAILABLE forms. We evolved to cook these foods to increase their bio availability which is why we evolved the physical structure we have today. A primarily plant based diet is a historically new concept, we were apex predators up until agriculture and sedentary life. This guy gives shit advice that doesn't mesh with our physiology, history, and evolutionary path.

      @WidePeepo7 Meat is actually healthy and nutritious. The issue is that most meat that people buy are conventionally raised in feedlots, factory farms, fed unnatural diets (GMO or not), and not allowed to graze and pasture. Processed meats (ex: cured meats) are not good either.

    • @stefdiazdiaz7067
      @stefdiazdiaz7067 4 года назад +3

      @WidePeepo7 Our carnivoros traits
      Humans have many small fat cells like all carnivores. ‘Pond and Mattacks compared the structure of fat cells in various types of animals. Carnivores were found to have a higher number of smaller fat cells and omnivores a smaller number of larger fat cells. Humans were found to be at the top of the carnivorous pattern. Pond and Mattacks conclude: “These figures suggest that the energy metabolism of humans is adapted to a diet in which lipids and proteins rather than carbohydrates, make a major contribution to the energy supply.”’
      Humans have the stomach acidity of a unique carnivore. ‘Humans had a high level of acidity of 1.5 that lies between that of obligate and facultative scavengers. Producing acidity, and retaining the stomach walls to contain that acidity, is energetically expensive, so would presumably only evolve if the level of pathogens in the human diet was high.’ Note that herbivoros primates have a stomach pH varying from around 4 to 6 [17]. Most omnivores are between 2 and 4 [17].
      As previously noted, humans have a reduced energy extraction capacity from plants. ‘Our large intestine, where fiber is processed to energy, is 77% smaller by volume than that of a chimpanzee our size … The size and our small intestine, where -macronutrients are absorbed is 62% larger than that of a chimpanzee our size … the gut morphology adaptations both improved animal food exploitation and at the same time hindered the full exploitation of fibrous plant foods’
      Humans substituted primate climbing capabilities for an adaptation to throwing. ‘Roach et al claim that the structure of our shoulder represents an adaptation to carnivory. They describe how our shoulder is perfectly adapted to throwing, which must be useful, in their opinion, mainly in hunting and protection from predators. They show that in contrast, the chimpanzee’s shoulder is adapted to climbing trees.’
      Humans have much higher fat reserves than chimps, our closest relatives [3]. Carrying a high amount of fat costs energy and reduces the speed of chasing or fleeting, but gives us the ability to go periods without food while we hunt and scavenge. Apes are constantly eating and surrounded by plants, and don’t need this function. If we were constantly eating plants, we wouldn’t have adapted this way.
      Human jaws and teeth shrank, forfeiting chewing capabilities. We know early humans crafted tools to help process meat, even before fire. It takes 39% to 46% less force to chew and swallow processed meat than processed root foods [11]. Evolution chose to forgo the ability to properly chew certain plant-based foods to allow for more room in the skull [11]. The ability to use tools also explains why we don’t have carnivorous fangs - we didn’t have to tear raw flesh from a carcass with our bare teeth.
      From all of these adaptations, it is clear that humans have been moving further from herbivory/omnivory, and closer to carnivory.

Re-feeding syndrome is about electrolyte imbalance. Didn’t Jesus himself fast for 40 days? Fasting is a part of most religious practices for a reason. We have very acidic stomachs like carnivores. We have very short colons that are bad at fermenting plant fiber which is why we have to cook food. We don’t need to chase prey because we have a throwing shoulder and large brains. As a clinician-scientist whose focus has become vegan nutrition for the health of people and the environment/climate and animal welfare, the most compelling evidence for humans being vegan is that we are simply ‘vegan-by-design’. This alone says it all, even though I have to know all the literature on the vegan nutrition.
    Several international colleagues and myself are currently revising a manuscript that proposes an evidence-based Universal Food Guide (vegan based guide) as a template for national food guides.

    The video description is misleading. Humans are definitely NOT herbivores. Look at gorillas, a close relative that truly is an herbivore, and you see the adaptations in the jaw and gut for plant processing. Gorillas spend many hours a day chewing low-nutrient food and the gut is well-suited to fermenting the result to complete the nutrient assimilation. Humans are omnivores for sure; every indigenous culture around the world consumes as much fatty meat as it can access. There is clearly some confusion in some viewers' mind about meat. Humans have an ideal protein intake of between 15-25% of total calories per day. Meats supply that easily, but the bulk of the energy calories are from either carbohydrate or fat. Our human evolution on seashores and plains clearly indicate that we were getting our nutrients from fat for millions of years. Carbs are seasonal, hunting is not. It is also true that every vitamin and mineral that humans need is assimilated easily from animal foods, but less easily from plants.

      You forgot to look at the data, right? "70% of Hong Kong residents over the age of 70 were born in mainland China and came over in search of better opportunities." Before moving to HK they were living a rural life eating fairly healthily, getting plenty of exercise, etc. and not breathing vast amounts of pollution and eating greasy junk foods as people in the city of HK. Their vastly better childhood health When China started taking over HK again, most people left HK to other countries or to move to Shanghai where all the money is to be made. The demographic of HK has vastly changed in recent years. The median age has gone up due to younger people moving away and older people move to HK. To compare, the median age of the USA is around 38. In HK is around 44. This would also affect statistics. HK is seen as a good place for older people to retire as everything is nearby due to it's concentration but also the extensive social welfare system and nice temperature. A healthy childhood and upbringing is key to healthy retirement years, and likely most continued to eat similarly to how they were raised once the moved to HK and did not take up the typical HK diet.

      @@GTSN38 yes, he can be perceived as an idiot. I got that. He is not an idiot, though. He is woefully misinformed, willingly so, apparently. Even if he is an idiot, it's not helpful to call him one. Just sayin'.
      Should he become a vegan "in due time", I hope he pays close attention to his body, and the negative results show themselves sooner than later, so he can get off it.
      It's helpful to know the genesis of veganism. Read below.
      .........................................................................
      Ellen G. White - a Victorian Lady, “prophetess” of the Seventh Day Adventists
      “… to bring into submission, the male sexual appetite, which could be controlled by diet… dispense with animal foods and use grains, vegetables and fruits as articles of diet.
      Foods to avoid:
      Minced pies, cakes, preserves, and highly-seasoned meats with gravies, create a feverish condition in the system, and inflame the animal passions…sip no more the beverage of China, no more the drinks of Java…”
      ............................................................................
      Initially, veganism was to control the male sexual appetite. Then it was promoted for health. After long-term vegans left because it was ruining their health, it became about animal rights. That has not been working so well, so the latest iteration is about global warming (mixed with everything else except suppressing the male sexual appetite).
      People are attracted to veganism for health, for vanity (physical and psychological), and to feel like they are DOING SOMETHING and MAKING A DIFFERENCE. And then, for religion, of course. Even those who think it's not... they are following a religion.
      Should it be around ten years from now, I guarantee the reasons will be something not yet imagined.

      @@inongekhabele however fruits and vegetables are loaded with potassuim, an essential element of promoting testosterone in men. Iv been vegan 2 years and get regular blood tests. My testosterone is higher than when I ate meat, by far. There is really nothing to justify eating animal products apart from sensory pleasure.

    Yes! We are designed to eat meat and I will never stop eating meat. So, I am going to die most likely very soon but that is better than being a vegetarian or a vegan.

    Not designed to eat animal foods? Yet eating a plant-based diet requires us to consume multitudes more for us to actual absorb the nutrients because so many parts of the plant actually INHIBIT absorption. While on the other hand, you can not only survive on an animal only diet, you will THRIVE. On an animal-based diet you need to consume half as much of several nutrients because you don't have those plants making it more difficult.
    Eating a carnivorous diet leads to reduces inflammation, greater mental clarity, weight loss which by itself would help a lot of people's health, reversal of type-2 diabetes, clearer skin, better bone development in growing children, and much more. A high plant-based diet leads to obesity and nutrient deficiencies.
    The doctor in this video is a joke.

    That bit on hunting was sure ironic. Carnists act like they'd starve without meat. When actually, it would be without plants people would starve.

      This video is anything but informative and sensible!! It is one of the most ridiculous things on RUclips and also one of the most misleading and as such no one should watch it and it should be removed and Milton Mills should never give another talk ever! By the way he is deteriorating these days then he probably won't be able to string a sentence together soon.

    This is ridiculous. Predators are fast and have skinny legs?... Like an antelope? He mentions the predator/carnivore's have a great sense of smell. You know the animal with the best sense of smell? An elephant (which can detect smells 12 miles away) - not much of a carnivore. Number three is a cow (who can smell 6 miles away). He mentions domestic dogs are obese. Why do you think that is? Maybe because we are not feeding them their proper diet - meat. Same reason as Dr. Mills is obese, as he mentions his over-weight size. Oh wait, he said "don't mention that". Interesting. How do you think you quickly fatten a pig or cow? With Grains.
    He says elephants are hairless, and then says "sounds familiar"? just like humans. I guess there are no furry herbivores - like rabbits, cows, antelope, deer, etc, etc, etc.
    Why is the human Cecum so small? What is it used for in mono-gastric herbivores like a rabbit? What is the comparable size?
    Why is the human ph level of their stomach similar to vultures and wolves?
    Why don't we digest fiber? What happens when we don't? Maybe bloating? IBS? UC?
    Why do Vegans have to supplement if it is the proper human diet. How long have supplements been available to humans?
    He's introduced as an Adventist. Look up their history. Look up John Harvey Kellog and why cereal was invented. Is their church influential in nutritional education. How does that happen? What is their motive to buying the rights to the "Blue Zones"?
    Apparently he doesn't think anyone can fast either. It's impossible to go a few days without eating because you get sick. Weird, I've done it and felt great.
    He mentions that we have to eat many times a day, yet I can go many days with one meal a day and not be tired or hungry. Weird.
    The last time our species was vegan, we were 3 ft tall and had a brain the size of an orange - Australopithecus. Ever seen a cave painting over 12,000 years ago (before agriculture) of cavemen eating plants? It's all hunting and it's been like that for over 2 million years.
    He says we have to be herbivores to have the brain the size that it is, yet you need animal fat to grow your brain. At the dawn of agriculture, our brain was larger than it is now. why did it change?
    His environmental impact discussion is filled with false notions that are laughable. What is happening from the mono-cropping to grow sow, wheat and corn? It's globally turning soil into dirt. You might want to look into that. Look up desertification.
    I couldn't find Dr Mills debating anyone with an opposing opinion. why?
    This whole talk is garbage.
