I come from a family full of health issues. As a 79 year old, 30 year vegan, I am in great health and don't take any prescription drugs. Dr. Barnard tells the truth!
Congrats!!! I really hope to be like you one day! I am also a vegan (a VERY long vegetarian; recent vegan); I am fairly young but I have suffered from very serious congenital diseases throughout my life and very severely since my early 20s. Stories like yours give me hope - there is not a day that goes by that I don't get TERRIFIED at the prospect of having to go through this physical hell AGAIN when I am older - so if I can beat these illnesses into remission while I am "youngish," I suppose there is always the hope of having a happy and healthy life as an older person! I need to remember that age doesn't necessarily equate with illness, dementia, and frailty! Thank you again and I wish you the best of luck!
79? Wow! I love it! You are an inspiration to all. I am 34 and just found out my A1C is 6.9. My doc prescribed Metformin but I REFUSE to take it. I figure, hey I wasn't taking anything all this time I may as well just change my diet!!! It's not easy. I wasn't raised up on good dieting. My mother didn't force vegetables on me and my siblings. I have a crave for chocolote and I love rice. Now that I am older I have to force myself to eat it. I look at people who eat vegetables so easy, those who enjoy it and bothers that I don't feel the same.
Don't give up...you CAN eat better. I was 205 lbs at 5'6 and on the day the Dr. told me my triglycerides were 1000 and cholesterol unreadable and I MUST pick up meds on the way home, I made the decision to try the Dean Ornish diet. My numbers were perfect in 4 weeks. I eliminated high fructose corn syrup FIRST, then ate less and less fast food, then changed to salads at the fast food restaurants, then began reading books by Bernard Jensen and buying a new vegetable every week..now eating all non-GMO, no hormones, and at least 10 servings of veggies a day, on a budget. It takes determination and planning. Learn ALL about all you can, and KNOW that people are curing 50 diseases including cancer with vegetables every day. Please watch, 'The Beautiful Truth', and look up Max Gerson! This great man helped begin a new life for many!!
I've been vegan for over 1 year now, after only 3 month I could throw away my thyroid pills and lost 12kg because my body actually fixed itself now. So happy about this ❤️
I went vegan months ago, and my 3 years of acne has finally cleared!! I was using all these acne treatments and now I only use a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen.(so much cheaper)
The human body has the miraculous ability of continually working to heal itself. Dr John McDougall calls eating animal and processed foods as food poisoning. Once you stop the food poisoning, your body can truly begin to heal.
I went vegan for the animals in the 1970s. And all of my old friends are now dead from preventable diseases (I had no idea of the health benefits of veganism until they all started dying) I'm still running up mountains and kayaking in my late 60s.
And it sucks losing your friends doesn't it ? I lost one of my best friends due to bad diet and I told him to stop his ways. He refused and I told him he was being selfish because I would lose a best friend. He brushed it off and ignored me. He died at 48 years old!
When I was 45 I started to get some of the usual symptoms of aging even though I had been a vegetarian since 21. I switched to a vegan diet and the symptoms went away. Ten years ago I took it a step further and became a raw vegan. Although I'm 73 now I feel like I'm in my twenties. I'm a bicycle courier, cycling 30 to 50 miles a day in the course of my deliveries My stamina increases steadily and I'm enjoying life more than ever before.
@@dougfox9649 I don't know. I'm 5 ft. 6 in. and weigh 125. I'm slender and muscular. I'm 78 now. Just three weeks ago the doctor said my biological age was less than 60.
Dairy gave me cystic acne and boils. Since giving it up 3 years ago, my skin is glowing...but the beauty industry doesn't want you to know that, either ;)
@@sagarmistry6574 Yes, completely. I can get away with having butter and cream (dairy with no protein) but absolutely no cheese or milk ingredients, that includes milk chocolate. So if you struggle with acne, I highly suggest giving up those foods to see if your skin improves. If it does, let me know- it 100% worked for me :)
I too was covered in painful boils. I was prescribed antibiotic pills for years that were the size of horse tranquilizers and difficult to swallow. I used to consume massive amounts of milk. Like yourself, when I finally had the knowledge to cut out the dairy, my skin cleared up. This info needs to be shared.
Im on an all cheese diet and have a six pack for the first time in my life. When I ate vegetables my wiener didn't work, now it's rock hard all day...just saying
Apple Pie If vegans are feeling bit under nourished in the lipid department, they can easily have a dish including olive oil every so often. Not like protein is a problem hahaha nice try though.
I went vegetarian in 1991, and cheese was a huge part of my diet. I got endometriosis in 2006 and had the procedure to fix it. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2010 and suffered for many years. When I went vegan 2 years ago and I haven't had a flare-up in almost 1 1/2 years and feel so much better 😊💚
In 2019 I wasn’t feeling well, I came across a video of Dr. Barnard’s and it completely changed my life for the better. Since then, I’ve been whole foods plant based and my husband has joined me too. We feel better than ever 💪🏼
As vegetarian myself for 14 years, I used to love eating a lot of cheese until I had a heart attack one year one month ago. Obviously, it was caused by bad cholesterol in dairy. I converted into vegan completely for a year and exercising well. My medication went down from four to two. My goal is to get rid of medications soon. I will be 68 in two weeks.
The thing is, plants are alive and before you eat them, they are pulled out of the ground and killed. Much more humanely than these poor cows, but you are still eating something that was once alive.
To say nothing of the fact that the plants and fungi are the old gods of the earth- they do not fumble for purpose, and they comprise the foundations of all life. They know what they are doing.
My mom has rheumatoid arthritis and I was so happy when I found out about this. My mom eats cheese all the time! Dairy is in all of her meals! I can finally make her feel better when I thought I never could.
My toes have been stiff and paining intensly for 1year. After 2 weeks on a vegan diet, also no sugars( all kinds except a fruit a day) or wheat, ALL pain dissapered and i can move my toes easily. Its a miracles! All the best to your mom.
I eat some cheese and I'm thinking about trying to get off .it will.be hard.i already quit pizza, dottitoes, candy and a lot of carbs.i thought carbs cause diabetes,? There is so many conflicting reports out there as to what causes diabetics.
After being vegetarian for the last 12 months, I’ve been vegan for the last month and feel great - it’s been a very gradual process..first went the red/ processed meat, eggs, poultry, fish and lastly all the dairy - so glad I did it that way as I gave my body a chance to slowly transition to a full plant based diet with legumes, whole grains, vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, low sugar/salt/oil- doing intermittent fasting for 18-20 hours also helps me a lot..I believe every word that Dr Barnard says together with other plant based vegan doctors - I wish I knew all this before..but at 54, I never felt better 😊
At 27:40 diabetes is explained. It is this explanation, from his book on diabetes, that convinced me to follow his advice. Which got me off all my diabetes meds and dropped my blood sugar dramatically. My doctor was so impressed, he tried the diet for 90 days, stuck with it, and today he weighs 100 lbs less! BTW, my eyeglass prescription has improved regularly each year, which my eye doctor says is typical when a patient drops meat and dairy.
Inspiring. I’m 50 and have gone completely plant based. I suffered from chronic allergies, arthritis, asthma from being raised on animal products. Since switching to plant based, I’m free of allergies, asthma is mild, and no pain in my body. I prep my food once a week, making delicious lentil casseroles with greens and ginger, turmeric etc. Plant based is the way to go, with amazing recipes to enjoy.
I could hardly breath at times. I felt like I was suffocating. I went to allergists and doctors and nothing. After years of no help I put the pieces of the puzzle together and cut out milk and dairy. It feels great to take a deep breath now. I never hear anything about it but I try to tell others which is why I posted this.
James Oliver ~ dairy used to trigger MY asthma. Raw organic "Goat cheese" didn't do this, BUT it still made me Sneeze and gave me joint pain neck to toe. I avoid all dairy.
I am vegan and I am proud of it It's cruelty free. I am looking younger. My hypothyroidism vanished. I am more energetic, active and positive now.. My metabolism have increased. My knee problems, respiratory disorder also got cured. Live and let live. Do something compassionate. Do something better, positive
You got your thyroid antibodies tested both times? The farmers get soy subsidized from the government to feed the dairy cows. Might it have been that soy that caused your thyroid to be hypo before?
You are mistaken. Many studies are paid for by various industries: dairy, meat, etc. Please do some further research. Check out Dr. John McDougall's website as a start.
yes indeed. It's scary to see all the uneducated people who assume all studies are fair and real. The government will do anything to protect the meat/dairy industires, the government has the power to do whatever it wants, and releasing biased studies is just the tip of the iceberg. There is also so much meat/dairy propaganda and brainwashing through advertisements and paid medical experts.
Ever since I saw the video 'Not Milk' by Robert Cohen many years ago I stopped drinking milk. Best thing I ever did to my diet was eliminate milk and milk products. Also, I eliminated wheat/gluten.
try eliminating eggs and other animal products. Going low fat whole food plant based (plenty of plants to eat without eating wheat/gluten) is optimal for health (and for the health of the planet)
@@animalsarebeautifulpeople3094 Dang nutrition science is so debatable, I guess it depends on the person. But why are we meant to eat plants and vegetables when our guts shrank as our brains grew, Digesting plants and leafy greens takes a sophisticated gut so why would it shrink?
@@orionstar3310 Our guts are very long... Meat sits digested and rotten in the gut for a loong time before you actually stool it out. The lack of fiber in meat doesn't clear up your gut either. Anyway, the fact that you're asking questions means you're on the right track. Keep doing your research and you'll make the connection. Vegan is the way forward. Cheers!
I just turned 56 but before i heard this i was about over 75 kilos now i am 60 kg because about 6 months ago i stopped eating, dairy, eggs, sugar, and processed food, no stimulant, also i start eating early and finish early about 4 pm no food or liquid till the next day and now people think i am in my 40s, i do exercise every morning i do my yoga, stretching and weights to, i feel better than i was in my 30s
Great strategy. I am trying the same. Dr Valter Longo who is a longevity researcher (look for his book "The Longevity Diet") found that the removal or at least reduction of inflammatory foods, intermittent fasting plus occasional calorie restriction days switches on the stem cell activation and body rejuvenation. Total body clean up...
I WISH I WAS TAUGHT THIS GROWING UP I had awful asthma and really really REALLY awful eczema growing up, and I drank milk like it was water. We tried so much to help my conditions, as an infant I was often woken up with the inability to breath and scratched so much I would go through veins. The asthma calmed down a bit, but my eczema was awful for the full 23 years of my life, and this march, I became vegan. My skin is clear. MY SKIN IS FUCKING CLEAR AND NO DOCTOR EVER EVER MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS SUCH AN EASY WAS TO ESCAPE THE HELL THAT WAS MY SKIN. It really pisses me off. Spread the word of the terrors of dairy. I wish I knew earlier. I hope other people can cure themselves quicker than I did..
It could be a histamine allergy too, they sometimes go together. Be mindful what you eat, no canned food, only fresh (you can cheat once in a long while, a month or two). By fresh I mean raw meat, fish, vegetables, etc... these should be the ingredients that you cook.
@@fromcantocant7267 Still going strong :) Skin is still clear, I'm a healthy weight now, all my old favorite chocolate brands are bringing out vegan versions of their products. Life is so good. No need to worry about my nutrition, but thanks for caring.
@@svily0 I haven't had meat or fish since I was 5 when I found out what meat really was. Being vegan is working wonderfully for me, but thank's for the suggestion.

Just avoid all fats and all fruits except algea flax chia leafygreens omega3 etc and berries for oatmeal mallasse seems ol and vinegars mustards white balasamic vinegar with none fat non sugar bread doesnt react... its really the. starch vs fats vs fruits.. sober 4 5 days
I decided to attempt being a vegan two months ago after being trapped in a cabin with my processed food carnivore friends for a week. I endured the week of snoring, eating for no reason, watching them get fatter and decided this was gross, I won't eat meat for the next week... then I just happened to consider it further. Every time I was eating something with meat or dairy I was not really appreciating the cost of that meal.... something had to die or suffer and i did not feel as if I appreciated it enough to justify that event! I told myself I can do it for a month and I did it and now continue... The more I research the more stupid I realize I was and the "average" person is. We have been misled and lied to, I have gotten tired of being one of the "human cattle people". Listening to such an intelligent explanation makes me realize how dumb I have been!
Great presentation! A month and a half ago I criticized my vegetarian friend for not enjoying meat and cheese. Now Im vegan and my ruematoid has improved among other things. Now I feel bad for animals that I ever ate the way I used to. We can make the change AND regain our health, and our planet!
Doesn't mean anything. One man is not statistically representative. I know 90 year old people that smoke, so lets just smoke and live long. Such a flawed logic.
Nikola16789 Many studies have shown vegans are STATISTICALLY proven to live longer than meat-eaters. They are also known to age slower/ look younger because of all the nutrients they are consuming. Sure you can smoke and there is a chance you can live long, but chances are you will look much older than your actual age, whereas Neal actually looks younger than his age because of his healthy diet.
That's what turned me vegan from omnivorous diet immediately from reading just a tiny bit of what is done to the in the American Dairy Industry to get it to supermarket shelves.
Good for you! Hope you are feeling better now that you are dairy free :) It's unnecessary for humans beside the horrifying treatment of animals. How can anyone with goodness in their heart shove dairy in their mouth after learning this is beyond me. Sooo gross at all levels.
I'm 30 and I find this man very attractive! Age really is just a number, providing that u take care of yourself! Someone said that he's 63 and my jaw dropped
Before I went vegan over 2 years ago I was a vegetarian that suffered from chest pains and joint pain in the morning, ditching dairy and egg cleared that up within a month.
That's quite true. Good point. Often it requires us to try the other side before we can see how we really felt. The human mind requires comparisons to make decisions like that in many case.
I cut down dairy and it cured my acne and sleep apnea. I also try to consume less red meat and my doctor saw a big drop in my blood pressure. I'm no longer in the border line of high blood pressure.
Vegan pizza is a thing, and they sell some really good ones at least here in Finland. Once I stopped eating dairy cheese, I stopped craving it soon after. Same with smoking cigarettes; both of them taste awful now. Dairy cheese doesn't taste like human food anymore, which it never was in the first place (cow's milk is designed for calves only, just as human milk is for humans only). I don't even eat vegan cheese anymore (except on pizza sometimes), because I simply don't crave anything that even resembles it.
I went vegan listening to this man, no problem, no brainer, lost weight, felt great. Then, in winter, I had a craving for comfort foods, butter, milk, cheese etc which ended my wellbeing. Back on it again now tho.
@@tmf9556 That was my comment - totally agree! Maybe not year-round, but especially in the spring and summer, when lots of bugs are still available for the hens to eat, making those yolks dark yellow, delicious, and full of valuable fat-soluble vitamins. Animal products don't make you fat, carbohydrates do. Just try the carnivore diet for a few weeks: eat as much meat, dairy and other animal products as you can and when you feel like it and the weight will fly off and you will feel so vital, energetic and satiated all the time
Turned vegan last october 2016 because my intestine was not functioning well- unable to defecate for 3 months - maybe coz of excessive dairy and processed meat intake... and having severe dysmenorrhea. Once i stopped eating meat and dairy... dysmenorrhea gone and im able to defecate everyday 👍😁
It you are constipated your liver and gallbladder might be sick. The gut is sick so is the liver and gallbladder. If it doesn't get better the kidneys get sick. It can be life threatening. RUclips to learn
It is better to get your vitamins and minerals through your food - NOT through supplements. The only time you should use supplements is if your body is intolerant to all foods containing the vitamin/mineral you are lacking.
"Organic grass fed" and surely you would say that the cows are also treated "humanely", "humane" slavery, humane" rape, "humane" torture and "humane" murder. All that equals "humane" global warming and planet destruction, "humane" cancers, "humane" osteoporosis etc.
I am my own lab rat, and I know this info is spot on , and its working with family also.Thank for taking the time and carrying enough to help ,its signs of a real doctor that heals.
Awesome talk! I had been brain washed by the industry's paid experts that dairy products has high calcium and healthy. Hmmm.... got to stop all dairy products.
Raw grass grazed dairy may be healthful, but not to giving people needed calcium. Our bodues' calcium is generally fine as long as our diets as a whole encourage balanced health. What raw grass grazed dairy helps some with, is growth, deep healing, healthy type of detox, immunity balance etc. And raw grass grazed dairy is never encouraged by anyone in high places in American nor Australian law nor government, as people with knowledge of good from evil, as Jesus in the Bible who ate ruminant butter, honey of bees & cheese curds as a child to decipher good from bad, are not the type of people they can control to amass more power & billions of dollars.
You should read my comment about the Golestan Dairy Food Intake Study which found significant reductions in all cause mortality and a 28% reduction in mortality from cardiovascular disease and no increase in cancer. The highest 1/5 of dairy eaters in the study saw the greatest benefits. Harvard studies have confirmed the benefits of eating dairy. My comment explains the benefits of eating cheese and yogurt.
I overcame diagnosed major clinical depression by becoming vegan. Side benefits: healthier, happier, stronger, more energy, incredible immune system, and feel better than I ever have in my life. Now age 66, I feel 35, only better than I did back then. I would go so far as to say we can cure anything, and reverse any degenerative disease process though a vegan diet.
Took me 62 years to figure out “milk doesn’t do a body good”. I’d drink 1 gallon a day thinking it was helping my workout. My favourite food was a block of Philadelphia cheese in the wrapper. Still miss dairy. I gave up simple carbs and lost weight. Then gave up meat and chicken, then (after reading how not to die) gave up fish. Felt “good” due to -60lb weight loss .. but the biggest “wow” was giving up dairy .. 2 weeks after giving it up I finally felt 40 again (I’m 63). Luckily 62 years of abuse didn’t mess anything up .. zero plaque (miracle) Tc down from 303 to 146, VO2MAX 48.6 .. I dodged a dairy bullet.
@@philliproberts7294 ah … what I’ve learned is that vo2max from a wearable is way different from a lab measured vo2max .. I did a lab treadmill test … not sure how you measured yours but in my experience wearables measure < lab / treadmill / mask

even if i am already vegan i have to say 2 things: i was NEARLY a vegan for about 10 yrs but... yeah CHEESE.... second: thanks to humble and bright minds as Dr Barnard spreading the truth to the open world. THANK YOU!!!!!
It seems like a lot of studies looks at the estrogens and sex hormones in dairy and sees how that affects health. I wonder if any studies look at the stress hormones in the mother cow and how that also affects health.
You hit it on the nail. Stress hormones from other species do not cook out and ingested by humans it's stored in each and every cell in your body. Its stored in the Mitochondria and that is very dangerous. As anger issues are the least of your problems. Stress hormones are linked from depression and paranoia to mental diseases. Also consumed with all meats. If we didn't eat these there would be barely diseases, mentally and physically and wars!!!
Dr. Neal Barnard - Super Amazing!! Am a careful person about food choices, but just learned even more about dairy; incredibly explained for ease of understanding for non-doctors. Thank you so very much!!
I can personally attest that My Joint pain and Inflammation Goes Damn Near away whenever I Cut out dairy from consumption. Whole Foods Plant based diet is by far the best for Health It's just very hard to give up foods you've been eating your whole life.
Dr. Bernard is so knowledgeable AND entertaining. I think the latter part is really important when thinking who should go out there and try to affect people's minds for our collective better future.
I found this video when looking for answers why I had become lactose intolerant, it blew my mind. So I continued to research the subject. I have now been plant based for a year. I am now the healthiest I have ever been. Lost 30kg/66lb. Never going back to eating animal products.
@Dominique Lavalle if they are born to be food, then why are they scared, trying to escape and moaning when being forced to their deaths in a slaughter house? And what do you base this statement on? Cats and dogs are being eaten around the world as well.
@@brightshadowdnb3301 I think you have misunderstood the comment. Dominique is merely stating the obvious, that society views different animals in a different light - i.e. that some are seen as beloved pets , others are seen as food, to be bred, for human consumption e.g a parrot versus a chicken or turkey. We know the animals going to their death are scared and screaming, gassed or electrocuted. Spread the word. Go vegan.
After watching "Forks Over Knives" in March of 2012, I went 100% dairy free. I'd had horrible seasonal allergies since my early teen years in the mid 1970's. Also, in the previous 5 or so years, I had started developing a red, peeling, blotchy area on my forehead and cheeks. Within a few weeks the blotchy areas completely disappeared, and my elbows and knees went back to normal, soft skin, and by May, it was "allergy season" again. I had almost no allergic response to what traditionally would have been 4-6 weeks of living on allergy meds. I remain dairy free, and am still enjoying the benefits. Additionally, I helped cure an athlete on my daughter's high school cross-country team, by suggesting that her asthma might be caused by her dairy consumption. She used an inhaler before and after her races. She went 100% dairy free and never used her inhaler again!
@@pinanay You're welcome. I hope removing dairy will be helpful. Be sure to read all the labels on the processed foods you buy, because milk, like corn, is used as a filler, and it's in just about everything.

Doctor after doctor after doctor just tried to put me on more and more pills and slice and dice my reproductive system. I am so thankful that I told the doctors no.
Laura Lucille wish I'd known about this 2 years ago :-( I had PCOS (which is a hormonal imbalance that affects periods, weight, etc). I ended up getting cancer, which I found out grew as fast as it did because of the excess estrogen in my system (I had no cancer in Sept 2015 when I got my pap...by May of 2016, I was stage 3). I ended up having to have my ovaries and fallopian tubes removed and the chemo and radiation killed my uterus... I wish I'd known this for the past 10 years...
Look up the benefits of fasting and reproduction please! I think you will be amazed! Couple that with a Raw Vegan 🌱 diet and you may be pushing out babies like a baby mill!!! Lol!!! Good luck 🍀 and very wise decision to run from the knives and pills!!!

And to be honest even though it is challenging to find products and eat out at restaurants without milk added, I realize that cutting out dairy was really good for me (though I didn't consume that much to begin with). I honestly prefer soy and coconut milk over dairy milk anyway...
Being dairy free (and minimizing processed foods by doing so) has allowed me to finally get clear skin after dealing with moderate/severe cystic acne since I was a preteen (now in my mid 20s) A side effect was also just slimming down because it turns out that a huuuugggeee majority of processed/prepackaged foods and restaurant foods are loaded with dairy, so not eating that junk naturally led to weight loss
Since when have the milk label ever made a claim that it makes u thin? What they need to do is stop it from making claims that it makes ur bones strong tho.!
Dr. Barnard has not only helped to change my life and my health, he is a genuinely nice and kind person! My hero💗🌞 ( I didn't know Chad's story! I took his class Rouxbe class through Forks Over Knives)
I love how he talks! keeping it fun, cool facts, helpfull stuff!! thanks a lot.. I am 20 years old, I have ADHD and asthma/allergies verry badly.. I am already vegetarian, sometimes I eat dairy products, no meats or fish.. but I never did it for a 100% I WILL. why? I didn't want to disrespect people, when I go and eat at there home, and be like.. no I don't eat that food.. or be rejected by friends and family. That's Bullllll****t I should be able to eat or do what I want! so I will go a 100%! thanks x I will comment in 2 months to say How I am doing x
Nobody really cares what you eat. They just pretend they care. They had to suffer for decades and we and they learn about it now. They secretly want you to suffer like they did. The resistance is large, but we environmentalists, and animal lovers can be stronger!
Asthma from 6 to 35 years use inhaler steroids twice a day - i cut the dairy products and i no longer take my medication for 20 years my opinion is dairy product- so i eat pizza and my asthma attacks come again my opinion only
My son is 4 and has asthma. His symptoms are so bad he coughs until he barfs all night - no one can sleep. He's on 5 medications, nebulizers, you name it, nothing works. We went vegan and his symptoms stopped. he needs no medication, not even rescue inhalor. Then, when his grandparents give him pizza his symptoms return immediately. It's nice to get some confirmation that this is real. No one believes me and it's hard to stay strong when everyone scoffs and disbelieves, especially his doctors. And everyone is like, come on just a little pizza, ice cream, chicken wings burgers etc...
@Aida Frederic, Just tell everyone that your child has severe dairy allergies (and your Dr has told them to stay away from ANY dairy). You don't have to explain to anyone why they are vegan. You have found the root cause. Glad you have found it because Asthma is a terrible disease (and incidentally nearly killed me as a child). Mine was air pollution related.
collin huey You are right Colin. I’m 48 . I had asthma from the age of 12 to 39 when I turned vegan and also stopped eating processed foods. I did my research and found that dairy caused excess mucus. I completely stopped eating all dairy. Once I changed my diet I felt like a new person. I could breathe. I have not had to use an inhaler, nor other medications in about 9 years. I truly feel that what we put in our bodies can either provide us with excellent sources of energy and strength or a diet that causes all kinds of diseases. Especially as we age.
This is the best dairy lecture I've seen, especially for showing to beginners, or people who eat dairy/animal products and who aren't educated on it. It's simple, clear, easy to follow, covers every issue (love how it includes the ethical side). Love it! ❤️
Brilliant presentation. From this day forward I’m on a journey to gradually give up dairy for good. The global model of food production is unsustainable and is ruining our health.
Before you give up dairy, you should read my comment about the Golestan Dairy Food Intake Study, or google it and read the study or just the abstract. You may be shocked at the benefits of eating dairy.
Can we summarize this lecture? What I've gathered is that casein is addictive, that it's correlated to prostate cancer, and that saturated fats are bad in high intakes. I'm sure I might have missed some more highlights. I think that except for casein, kefir yogurt doesn't seem so bad, and consumed in moderation, dairy doesn't look bad. Did he say anything bad about eggs? eggs are pretty much safe now since they don't raise cholesterol.
I am on a plant based diet and I look a little thin but feel amazing am 58 years of age and I work 10 hrs a day and am never tired Dr. Barnyard is just perfect.
According to Preston Estep, a distinguished gerontologist at Harvard, there is a consensus in the research community that around 70% of dementia is caused by excess heme iron from the diet. The source of heme iron is meat and fish. Cheese may contribute to dementia, but it's not the primary culprit. Communities with low consumption of animal products have much lower levels of dementia.
I used to drink close to a gallon of milk every day for the first 35-ish years of my life, then I quit milk for about 2 years because of all the natural sugars, and then later I tried drinking it again because of the calcium benefits it was supposed to have had. Problem was I couldn't stand the taste of milk anymore after not touching it for 2 years, so I don't drink any of it anymore. I'm pretty sure my chronic adult acne struggles were caused by the milk and whatever hormones and antibiotics the milk cows had been given because I had terrible acne whenever I drank it, and it cleared up considerably when I stopped.
When I was 48 I had a full body skeleton scan to check my bones. I Don't eat dairy, haven't most of my life so I was concerned about the health of my bones. The doctor told me that I had the skeleton of a 30 year old woman ! She said that she wasn't supposed to tell me but anything for a cow was not healthy. She said that the profession would bear down on her of they thought that she was saying this.
Everytime i feel like i wanted to eat some meat or dairy products, i usually come and watch one episide of these amazing guys' presentations, that's how I generally stay on plant based diet.. quitting is easy, keep it real to myself is the hardest thing....
I'll bookmark this for another time, but I've got to say that I'm still addicted to pizza despite having ordered it without the cheese from fast-food restaurants for months. It's all about that fresh crust!
Ryan Peters I make the crust at home...my dad, who has never liked pizza and would eat one slice, has 3 slices when I make it at home. Let me know if you would like the recipe

Thank you again and I wish you the best of luck!
well done and still following research good for you
You're an inspiration! Godbless
79? Wow!
So happy about this ❤️
Banshee Queen wow! What were you on and how much?
I have Hashimotos and am wondering if this lifestyle would be of great benefit?
I went vegan months ago, and my 3 years of acne has finally cleared!! I was using all these acne treatments and now I only use a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen.(so much cheaper)
The human body has the miraculous ability of continually working to heal itself. Dr John McDougall calls eating animal and processed foods as food poisoning. Once you stop the food poisoning, your body can truly begin to heal.

I just LOVE stories like these!!
I went vegan for the animals in the 1970s. And all of my old friends are now dead from preventable diseases (I had no idea of the health benefits of veganism until they all started dying) I'm still running up mountains and kayaking in my late 60s.
I hope you are alright. It sounds like a lot of loss you had to deal with. Take good care, Mike.
That's awesome. It's only been 3 weeks for me. I hope I can do as well as you have
Great inspiration. New vegan here :) best choice I’ve ever made.
Seriously! I work medical and everyone is overweight and having heart attacks and cancer. Now the research shows why.

Raw vegan - sorry to ask a stupid question - but does this mean that you don’t cook anything ?
Dairy gave me cystic acne and boils. Since giving it up 3 years ago, my skin is glowing...but the beauty industry doesn't want you to know that, either ;)
Your acne gone?
@@sagarmistry6574 Yes, completely. I can get away with having butter and cream (dairy with no protein) but absolutely no cheese or milk ingredients, that includes milk chocolate. So if you struggle with acne, I highly suggest giving up those foods to see if your skin improves. If it does, let me know- it 100% worked for me :)
Dairy is massively toxic. Why are we ingesting another animals milk ?? It's meant for baby cows.
@@amalia_ag wow I need to be consistent to go without dairy then. Thank you
I too was covered in painful boils. I was prescribed antibiotic pills for years that were the size of horse tranquilizers and difficult to swallow. I used to consume massive amounts of milk. Like yourself, when I finally had the knowledge to cut out the dairy, my skin cleared up. This info needs to be shared.
This lecture has motivated me to say goodbye to dairy and hello to a plant based diet. So glad I watched this!
Find a farm, buy RAW milk, its very good for you. Heres a link. www.farmtoconsumer.org/raw-milk-nation-interactive-map/

Im on an all cheese diet and have a six pack for the first time in my life. When I ate vegetables my wiener didn't work, now it's rock hard all day...just saying
I've been a vegan for 1 year and 2 months. Never looked back. I'm 43 now and feel better than I did when I was in my 20's. 😀

If vegans are feeling bit under nourished in the lipid department, they can easily have a dish including olive oil every so often.

Cliff Andrews I wish you well on your journey !
The thing is, plants are alive and before you eat them, they are pulled out of the ground and killed. Much more humanely than these poor cows, but you are still eating something that was once alive.
Raymond Shope
Wish you all the best!!!
I can finally make her feel better when I thought I never could.
hello world tell us how it’s going. Did it work?
Sadly she's not gonna change. She's hooked on dairy
My toes have been stiff and paining intensly for 1year.
After 2 weeks on a vegan diet, also no sugars( all kinds except a fruit a day) or wheat,
ALL pain dissapered and i can move my toes
easily. Its a miracles! All the best to your mom.
I had rheumatoid arthritis as well, in the early stages. Since being on a plant based diet, I no longer have any arthritis.
The world needs more people like Dr, Barnard.
Bob Collins
That's amazing!
Bob Collins, did your eye doctor have any explanation for that?

Akuma Wow, he doesn't look like 63!
Same with me. I have also cut down diary now. I feel better now.

And less milk
Ate subway and just forgot about the cheese, woke up with a stuffy nose

It's cruelty free.
THIS SPEECH IS AMAZING. HE IS SO GOOD AT EXPLAINING SCIENCE/STATS IN AN ATTENTION GRABBING WAY. THIS NEEDS MORE VIEWS!!!
Renee Cooke He never quoted any double blind randomized research aproved and backed by any FORMAL JOURNAL
maybe because the government wants this information hidden because they fund the meat/dairy industry worth billions of dollars?
Renee Cooke I am a researcher and that can't be true; the info is just a hypothesis without any real data. Universities fund those researches.
Same. Weird huh. Gluten and dairy were both major food sensitivities for my eczema but never diagnosed by my allergist. Wish I knew years ago
try eliminating eggs and other animal products.

I had awful asthma and really really REALLY awful eczema growing up, and I drank milk like it was water. We tried so much to help my conditions, as an infant I was often woken up with the inability to breath and scratched so much I would go through veins. The asthma calmed down a bit, but my eczema was awful for the full 23 years of my life, and this march, I became vegan.

Maybe you have a dairy allergy. No need to be malnourished from a vegan diet.
It could be a histamine allergy too, they sometimes go together. Be mindful what you eat, no canned food, only fresh (you can cheat once in a long while, a month or two). By fresh I mean raw meat, fish, vegetables, etc... these should be the ingredients that you cook.

In case anyone isn't aware (I certainly wasn't) Neal Barnard was born in 1953 i.e. he'll be turning 64 this year. Let that sink in for a minute...
thats the power of a vegan diet
Doesn't mean anything. One man is not statistically representative. I know 90 year old people that smoke, so lets just smoke and live long. Such a flawed logic.
I'm saying he looks good for his age, but thanks for the completely off topic reply
Sry, it's reply for Renee Cooke.

It you are constipated your liver and gallbladder might be sick. The gut is sick so is the liver and gallbladder. If it doesn't get better the kidneys get sick. It can be life threatening. RUclips to learn
better check your b12 levels and start taking b12 supplements
It is better to get your vitamins and minerals through your food - NOT through supplements. The only time you should use supplements is if your body is intolerant to all foods containing the vitamin/mineral you are lacking.

Wow VO2 max excellent mate how do I improve mine I'm at about 40 and your age thanks
Good job
Well done VO2 Max that's fantastic for your age I'm same age my VO2 is 40 and I thought I was fit
@@philliproberts7294 ah … what I’ve learned is that vo2max from a wearable is way different from a lab measured vo2max .. I did a lab treadmill test … not sure how you measured yours but in my experience wearables measure < lab / treadmill / mask
Also … the heat … I run in Texas .. today was 94F .. I’m sure my wearable vo2max would be way down from a nice air conditioned lab. Actually oddly Apple Watch says 44.8 .. but I still don’t trust it

It seems like a lot of studies looks at the estrogens and sex hormones in dairy and sees how that affects health. I wonder if any studies look at the stress hormones in the mother cow and how that also affects health.
Laura Lucille I was wondering that too. I hope that s study would be done.

What did I get from this? ( about the cows) we live in a very sick society, in many ways. Seals my feelings on being Vegan,
@Dominique Lavalle if they are born to be food, then why are they scared, trying to escape and moaning when being forced to their deaths in a slaughter house?

Thanks for sharing this. My daughter has asthma and I got rid of all dairy in her diet.

I just finished watching this whole speech and I am just so glad I did, I learned so much more and I already thought I knew a lot. So glad people in the world are here to help others find the truth, even if it is hard!
@The Lexo Show Truth is, you got me hard!.😂Beautiful and intelligent, Win!, Win!...
Definitely! Completely agreed, I'm well versed in this research but I still learned a few things from this presentation! I'm a future doctor, and Dr. Barnard and many others like Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Dr. Michael Greger, etc., are my role models! I've been health coaching for a few years now, helping patients to transition to a WFPB diet, and it's incredible to see their results! Weight loss, disease reversal, getting off meds, etc. Unfortunately, Nutrition is not taught in med school because we are trained to basically be drug pushers (big pharma/medical establishment = $$$), Plus the meat and dairy industry= $$$! These industries are all in kahoots with each other, no surprise there. Thankfully there are a growing number of doctors who are speaking the Truth and getting people healthier the right way! How has your health improved since you started eating WFPB?
Like Catherine, I also live in Louisiana. Our stories have so many things in common. I'm on month two of a plant based diet trying to reverse infertility. Doctor after doctor after doctor just tried to put me on more and more pills and slice and dice my reproductive system. I am so thankful that I told the doctors no.
Laura Lucille wish I'd known about this 2 years ago :-(
I had PCOS (which is a hormonal imbalance that affects periods, weight, etc).
I wish I'd known this for the past 10 years...
have you reversed the infertility yet? that's the key question, isn't it?
Look up the benefits of fasting and reproduction please! I think you will be amazed! Couple that with a Raw Vegan 🌱 diet and you may be pushing out babies like a baby mill!!! Lol!!! Good luck 🍀 and very wise decision to run from the knives and pills!!!

I am so incredibly grateful for this video. I’ve become a vegan a few months ago and could easily tell my asthma going away by just not consuming dairy anymore. I'm dairy intolerant, can't even have lactose free products. And to be honest even though it is challenging to find products and eat out at restaurants without milk added, I realize that cutting out dairy was really good for me (though I didn't consume that much to begin with). I honestly prefer soy and coconut milk over dairy milk anyway...
Unsweetened soy milk is wonderful! Coconut milk is bad for us! (saturated fat)
Have you tried Rice Milk? It's the only thing my family uses now. Love it!
Being dairy free (and minimizing processed foods by doing so) has allowed me to finally get clear skin after dealing with moderate/severe cystic acne since I was a preteen (now in my mid 20s)
A side effect was also just slimming down because it turns out that a huuuugggeee majority of processed/prepackaged foods and restaurant foods are loaded with dairy, so not eating that junk naturally led to weight loss
Since when have the milk label ever made a claim that it makes u thin? What they need to do is stop it from making claims that it makes ur bones strong tho.!

Nobody really cares what you eat. They just pretend they care. They had to suffer for decades and we and they learn about it now. They secretly want you to suffer like they did. The resistance is large, but we environmentalists, and animal lovers can be stronger!
Any update? How are you doing?

My life long severe asthma disappeared the moment I stopped consuming dairy.
Yup....I get more asthma eating dairy.
Thank you so much for sharing this. AWESOME talk! I'm a brand new vegan, and this is some great information. :)

Beyond unsustainable - we are presented a food galore that people 1) have no idea where it’s coming from 2) don’t even know what it is.
@@newyorkguy158 What nutriënt in the dairy is good for the Health? It certainly is bad for the environment.

Awesome speech. The problem is that almost nobody will watch it who isn't willing to change their diet in the first place.
Love this man! Such a great speaker, and really knows how to explain with out boring his audience to death.
