The LFWFV twin lost all of their excess weight in 3 years, and is still losing about 3 pounds per year, a BMI of 50 to 22. They have no health problems. The Paleo twin lost all their excess weight in 1 year, to a BMI of 49 to 23. Enjoyable to listen to. Disagree with several of Dr Barnards comments regarding saturated fat,and I'll never give my meat although 90% of my diet is plant based. Always good to apply context when listenting to or reading blanket statements about meat and the relation to heart disease.
When I turned 40 I was the thinnest I'd been since my 20s having been on a very low fat diet for several months while I was pregnant due to gallbladder problems (btw had a healthy 9lb baby despite low fat diet] sadly I went off the rails after having my GB removed, too much cake haha so now 43 and a bit fluffier. Trying to get back on track.

David Sinclair talks about 'hunkering' down and the impact putting the body under 'stress' occasionally has a positive impact. I found when I first switched to a totally plant based diet, I immediately felt better, cognitively, physically. However, I feel like the effect is either wearing off or my body is becoming 'lazy' again. I am not articulating this well, but has anyone else noticed this, or have I just become accustomed to a new baseline? What can I do to feel even better or is there an optimum impact that can't be improved further?
I’d love to hear what Dr Bernard can tell me about Lupus and a vegan diet. Could you cover this sometime? What are the diet factors or mechanisms which provoke Lupus, how long might it take for a vegan diet to improve things and how much improvement would it be reasonable for me to expect from a vegan diet? I have SLE ie Lupus nephritis probably since 2011 but only diagnosed with my first flare in 2019. TIA.
I'm curious as to why all the videos I've watched of people promoting going vegan, why they don't add a disclaimer as to results mentioned may not be typical for everyone and why when someone is overweight and diabetic, it's never recommended to get blood work done before starting such a diet, and continuous monitoring of blood work. My wife was such a person. Overweight and diabetic. On a vegan diet for nearly a year. She passed away late July from sudden cardiac arrest. She had her hopes up so high because of all the testimonies of people and getting better despite diabetes. And why vitamin B12 isn't mentioned to supplement because a vegan diet doesn't provide it
Because the science does not support vegans. This is why the videos come off like infomercials and play on emotions with little to no science Foundation-and doctors like this cite mis information to outright untruths. Sorry your wife didn’t go keto as it would have likely served her better.
I’m so sorry about your wife. Unfortunately food is not the answer to every health problem as some claim. They even have a facebook page called vegans with cancer
The vegan diet is nutritionally deficient and high carb. This likely exacerbated your wife's death. I know it is too late for your wife, but she should have gone the other direction towards a low carb, ketogenic diet which is nutritionally complete, species appropriate and IS the proper human diet. These vegan videos are so full of half-truths and claims based on terribly flawed research. Barnard should be sued for the garbage he propagates.
Often, vitamins are talked about in terms of vitamin stores, e.g. b12 stores in the blood, yet supplements are talked about as daily requirements. As someone who wants to get the right balance of vitamins from foods rather than supplements. How can I understand how often I need to ‘top up’ my vitamin stores? For example, I know I can get iodine from seaweed/sushi nori, but some seaweeds have very high levels of iodine. Can I get a weeks worth of iodine in one meal, or must I aim for a little every day?
This is a great question! I know I've heard that with B12, a couple of times a week is good. I tend to take my supplements every other day or so cause I'm not sure daily is needed as I too try to get as much as I can from my food.
@@Hisloyalservantslistenlove613c Not aways. B12 is essential, guys. You can take it every day or a high dose once a week. I heard there's b12 in duckweed too
@@Hisloyalservantslistenlove613c "To get the full benefit of a vegan diet, vegans should do one of the following: Eat fortified foods two or three times a day to get at least three micrograms (mcg or µg) of B12 a day. OR Take one B12 supplement daily providing at least 10 micrograms. OR Take a weekly B12 supplement providing at least 2000 micrograms". Vegan society I rarely drink plant milk or yogurt so I take supplement instead. When it comes to B12, I'd rather take way over the minimum amount than under. Deficiency of B12 can cause serious health issues Anyway, not sure how it works for vegans craving b12 if they have deficiency of it. Will the vegans crave meat and cows milk as our brain was wired as a kid to eat meat? Please, don't wait for "signs", to start taking supplements. I've been vegan for 12 years, but I'm careful. I don't wanna be one of those people who don't eat a balanced PB diet, then get seriously ill and blame veganism for it
Control your body fat levels to a healthy range, maintain muscle mass. Reduce stress Get good sleep Stop smoking, stop drinking. Keep a good social existence with like minded people. Strength training 3 x 30 mins per week. Cardio 30-40 mins 3-4 times a week Develop the habit of being a student for ever.
Why have I started eating just meat and 10 servings of veges with some fruit. I've cut out carbs almost completely and I've lost 18 pounds in 2 months. Sugar is the main problem. What do you think?
Not joking I subbed half spoon of butter for half&half in my coffee, it's how I gave up dairy creamer. Reduced saturated fat + I cut all cheeses, no pizza. Used to ❤ cheese. I have more energy, sleep better.
I have a whole freezer full of meat worth hundreds of dollars. I cant just throw it all away. Can i use just a little at a time with the bulk of my diet changed to vegetables to transition to vegan?
You don't want to waste it. Stop buying meat and fill up with vegetables, and eat meat every other day, every 3 days untill you are done, and transition to freezing vegetables instead of meat. Best of luck.
Excellent information. However, the most common reason for people wearing glasses 🤓 is misshape of the lens of the eye 👁 and/or reduced flexibility of the lens as one ages. Everything stated is true, but it didn’t answer the person’s question very well.

Do what Forest Gump did… cardio daily.. eat when you’re hungry..sleep when you’re tired
I was in great shape until 48. I am almost 51 and have gained 15 lbs since menopause has started 😮
TIA.
What about vitamin k2 when taken high blood pressure medication.
What about gout? Fruit really gets me.i eat no meat or dairy. Appreciate any suggestions.
Listen to your body! If it doesn't like fruit then don't eat it.
@@karunamayiholisticinc He is 69 years old and a psychiatrist by training. But he looks great
I'm curious as to why all the videos I've watched of people promoting going vegan, why they don't add a disclaimer as to results mentioned may not be typical for everyone and why when someone is overweight and diabetic, it's never recommended to get blood work done before starting such a diet, and continuous monitoring of blood work.
Can you get b12 from nutritional yeast
I would think that if your body would need something then you would naturally crave it.
@@Hisloyalservantslistenlove613c Not aways. B12 is essential, guys. You can take it every day or a high dose once a week.
I heard there's b12 in duckweed too
@@cinuk According to nutritional information on products that have added B12 ( like dairy free yogurt alternative ) we need 2.8 micrograms daily.
@@Hisloyalservantslistenlove613c
"To get the full benefit of a vegan diet, vegans should do one of the following: Eat fortified foods two or three times a day to get at least three micrograms (mcg or µg) of B12 a day. OR Take one B12 supplement daily providing at least 10 micrograms. OR Take a weekly B12 supplement providing at least 2000 micrograms". Vegan society
I rarely drink plant milk or yogurt so I take supplement instead. When it comes to B12, I'd rather take way over the minimum amount than under. Deficiency of B12 can cause serious health issues
Anyway, not sure how it works for vegans craving b12 if they have deficiency of it. Will the vegans crave meat and cows milk as our brain was wired as a kid to eat meat? Please, don't wait for "signs", to start taking supplements. I've been vegan for 12 years, but I'm careful. I don't wanna be one of those people who don't eat a balanced PB diet, then get seriously ill and blame veganism for it
Is there an episode on menopause and weight gain?
Control your body fat levels to a healthy range, maintain muscle mass.
Reduce stress
Get good sleep
Stop smoking, stop drinking.
Keep a good social existence with like minded people.
Strength training 3 x 30 mins per week.
Cardio 30-40 mins 3-4 times a week
Develop the habit of being a student for ever.
I would like to know am I still reaping benefits from a plant based diet if I eat a hamburger or other meat 1x/week
I have not eaten bacan since I was 18. Now 61. I forgot what it tasted like !
Why have I started eating just meat and 10 servings of veges with some fruit. I've cut out carbs almost completely and I've lost 18 pounds in 2 months. Sugar is the main problem. What do you think?
If you eat fruits and veggies. You are eating carbs... 😮💨
@@j-sm4554 yes but not 140 grams per day. Maybe 50 at most
Dr. Barnard should talk about his age and show himself exercising. He’s polar opposite of most men his age- 70+!
Unfortunately, he's super private.
Small quantities or sell it at a discount. Eat more plants. Start with that. Be well.
Share it with family and friends? Or donate to a church or a food bank. There are plenty of people who have very little to eat at all.
Super :)
Excellent information. However, the most common reason for people wearing glasses 🤓 is misshape of the lens of the eye 👁 and/or reduced flexibility of the lens as one ages. Everything stated is true, but it didn’t answer the person’s question very well.
When I stopped eating oils in my vegan diet, my eyesight improved. All people my age (47) I know, need glasses now, me not. Just saying.
I think Chuck is a super hot and young looking 40 y.o.! Happy birthday!!
One of the reasons may be cuz he's the best at what he does. Thank you maestro! Totally appreciate it! ❤️🙏
Great podcast. Do you have kids Chuck? Are they vegan?
Dear doc I am from Trinidad recently I was hospitalized with high blood pressure and it was found that one side of my heart was swollen all test they ran on me came back normal even the blood test the doc said even though my heart is swollen it's beating strong and for a swollen heart it's strong they found no signs of stroke or heart attack I think it's the medication that I am taking can you tell me what is causing it.
Did you get the COVID vaccine ?
Untrue about stress, it will cause the body to lay down fat. Cuddle and get rid of toxic people in your life.
My problem is sugar addiction. I dont smoke, I dont drink coffee or alcohol but sugar is my lifetime problem.
Yeah often some culture practice ie. Living style makes people very different from each others . And often it will stick on fr decades . Usually resist to change. esp improvement 😂
The sky is blue "if you take out animal products the sky will be blue" he loved inserting that everywhere
6:21 i feel personally attacked lol
Someone in theirs 40s is still a baby!!
True and at that very young age I could eat anything I wanted, which was mostly processed foods and junk food and I felt great. Young people usually feel good regardless of what they eat. I know I did! I’m 77 now and I have to be a little more careful
