Thank you for all the videos Jonathan. I have recently gotten back into reading books consistently and I have been enjoying your reviews a lot!

I've read all Adult and YA books for this story so far and not too sure why, but they've kinda lost me with "Out of The Shadows", it starts to really feel like a mess with all the different characters at this point and not really mashing together. I'd say Phase 1 was the strongest, but the second phase kinda threw me out and now i'm thinking "what are we doing here exactly?" It also doesn't help that I'm reading a lot of DUNE books recently, including the prequels, and so far i've been more into those than Star Wars. Maybe i'll come back to these books once the complete phase 3 is over and I can binge them.

Looking forward to reading this one after your review, Vernestra is my favourite character from the High Republic!

What did you think of the Acolyte trailer Jonathan? Excited to possibly see some of the High Republic characters on screen?

I've been really sleeping on the High Republic books. Would you say the show The Acolyte might be more enjoyable if I had all this backstory? (Sort of how Rebels is really good to watch to deeply enjoy Ahsoka)

It will only have nominal connections in Season 1, so it might have some cool connections but not necessary.

This one’s probably the hardest to state my opinion on. I love Vernestra and her arc was great but I absolutely hate Jordana and honestly wish Ireland had abandoned the characters. This is my first introduction to Avon Starros and I really liked her. This book is good when it’s not being a sequel to OOTS but is at its worst when it is. That ending scene with Vernestra was peak tho. I’d unfortunately have to give it a 6/10 because of how much I have a disdain for Jordana and Sylvestri. Even though Sylvestri was a little better.

I couldn't even finish Out of the Shadows and I wasn't planning to read Defy the Storm, despite reading all the other adult and YA books, because I heard it was essentially a sequel to OotS. I also don't like the idea of not having a central villain and 3 completely separate plotlines that apparently aren't split up well. This is probably a no-brainer, but should I try to read Defy the Storm?

It will probably not be as enjoyable for you based on those criteria. I’m a completionist so I try to read everything, although this was more enjoyable than I anticipated.

The whole concept of the Stormwall and Nihil reign makes no sense if you think about it more than a second. And this book was extremely painful to read because of sheer stupidity of this current worldbuilding.
There's no way the Nihil can force billions of people to sit quiet under their rule. And (spoilers) Xylan once mentions that they've killed a billion people on Seswenna's moon alone. This book also mentions the number of Nihil ships: 89 or so - this is insanity.
But the Jedi are no better. Having their Guardian Protocols active, they (spoilers) let Avon pass through the gates with the handmade electionic device - that's a security if I ever saw one. And Avon is a literal Mary Sue, being gifted with all the sciences and cracking codes with ease like she's spent a lifetime in some governmental intelligence.
It was bad from start to finish.

The Nihil forces should certainly be larger if they are going to control this much space. They do seem overpowering for their forces.
But I like the storm wall being this way to stop all hyperspace travel.
